Things Past

Bernie opened the envelope, took out some papers, leafed through.

“What’s that?” Weatherly said.

“Evidence.”

“Of what?”

Bernie looked up. “Of me going through high school in a state of oblivion.”

(coming 8/9. Pre-orders mandated by law.)

From yesterday. Yes, that is the famous sweater photo. Glad that Peter posted it himself, as we are currently on a train from London to Edinburgh and it would have been difficult to post from here.

This is a trip that was suppose to take place in May 2020, got postponed to May 21 and then again to May 22. Will miss the Jubilee celebration in London by a few days, which is fortunate, as London will completely shut down for it. First week spent in London, saw Churchill War Rooms and went out to Bletchley Park, among other things (British Museum and London Museum too). Have been to London a few times, but the trip to Scotland is a first for both of us. Will visit the town that Debbie’s great grandfather emigrated from in 1848, among other things.

Almost forgot. Stonehenge too. Special tour in which we were able to go inside the circle. Really amazing.

I envy you your trip. While it is a shame to miss something so once in a lifetime as the Jubilee I totally get wanting avoid the crowds and the shutting down of everything. Not to mention prices likely skyrocketing during that time.

I’ve done long weekends in England three times. (For Highlander TV series conventions). Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds. That last one I was able to go to the National Armory and see swords and all sorts of goodies.

I was suppose to have a six hour layover in London before my connecting flight to Leeds and was going to go into London to the Victoria and Albert Museum or just ANY museum. But they landed our plane outside of the city, then found there wasn’t a tow hook big enough to handle the plane and kept us trapped on it for four hours Finally they put us all on a bus and drove us an hour into to Heathrow. Lucky for me all I had was carry on. I had to RUN through the airport as I only had 20 min. to check in and barely made it to the gate before they closed it.

I will never fly British Air again. Ever.

I was going to go to Italy and Sicily in the fall of 2020. That sure didn’t work out. My parents were going to watch Diana and I was going to spend five weeks there, see Rome, go back to Florence and Venice, see my cousins in Germany, do one of the northern lakes and also Naples, Palermo and Cefalu. Cefalu was where my watercolor class was going to be for a week which was the entire reason for the trip. I was even going to go up the mountain to Pollina which is where my grandparents came from.

    But…Covid.

Then my Mother had a serious accident in March of 2021 and my parents can no longer handle dog sitting. I adopted Freyja June 29 of 2021 knowing that as long as she and Diana were alive I wouldn’t be doing any traveling at all. Not even my planned road trip up the California Coast to see the sites (especially Hearst Castle which I have always wanted to tour). I was going to do that after Ramses died but I adopted Diana at Christmas so that trip was canceled too.

I knew what I was getting into when I adopted Diana and then Freyja. No way will either of them be boarded, not even in the best must luxurious kennel facilities possible.

Guess what I saw when I was reading through this month’s issue of Sunset Magazine? Not exactly the same but I flashed to the cover of Bark to the Future.

Same kind of canyon but not the same canyon. I believe the Sunset Magazine canyon is in Utah. But when I saw it I immediately thought of Bark to the Future.
