Good morning! We saw that story of Reckless a day or so ago. What a great ending, but it’s a shame it took so long.
Zeus had a stellar day yesterday. Until he didn’t.

Nice story. Apparently microchips are the way to go. It would be interesting if Reckless could tell us his adventures.

The three newcomers certainly know how to post for the camera!

    Good morning all.

Good morning, OH, HRH B and everyone! Great story with the kind of ending we like 🙂 The 3 new Chet’s Friends are quite the hamlets. Mom wants to know how you get 3 members of the nation within to sit still..together? Ain’t happening here.
In honor of Zeus’ day (sort of) yesterday, have a stellar Saturday!

Morning everyone. Glad Reckless is back where he belongs. And the 3 hammy pups are cute.

The tv has a bit about the new Broadway musical of “Rocky”.
    Really?

    Greetings!

The story of Reckless was great! Such a good dog.

Love the three Taco Bell dogs up top!

RIO! I am glad the Rockies beat the crap out of the Mets. I do not care for the Mets.

Sammie! I was wondering where you were. I bet you are so happy that your girl is coming to visit. Now, you will have to be gracious….I am thinking your girl will be playing with LouLou too.

Zeus had a stellar day, until he didn’t….sounds ominous…..

Belle Starr, why are you not in charge? You are small, but not meek!
Glad to hear there was no Giant splorting!

    Hello All–

I echo everyone’s comments from yesterday and to this point today–are the three chocolates all ladies, does anyone know?
I’ll have to go back and catch up on the Zeus material (and possible updates about Angie).
Be well, everyone–this will be a long. hot (90+) one here…

Mom got some new hanging plants for the back porch. She has to take them down to water them. Last weekend, she took one down and noticed all kinds of stuff in there and started pulling it out. THEN she noticed it was a camoflauged bird’s nest. OOPS! She had seen a sparrow of some kind going in and out of the plant but thought it was using it as a perch before heading to the cat food bowl. So, she left the core of the nest in the plant and put it back up. She hasn’t seen the bird hanging around there any more, but has been at work all day during the week. Today, she went to check on the nest and we have an EGG!!! A tiny little bird egg!!! We are very excited about this and hope we get to see the bird hatch and grow. At our old house, we had purple martins every spring and could see them when they hatched and learned to fly. We have gobs of birds here, but none nesting close enough to observe. She would love, love, love to see baby hummingbirds.

    Happy Saturday!!

BooBear, that poor plant will die of thirst. That’s what we do to our hanging plants when a bird chooses to nest in it. Heh!

Mom always waters the opposite side of the pot, just a little, until the birds grow up. Doves, mockers, hummers haven’t minded.

  13. BooBear
    2:08 pm on May 3rd, 2014

B, it is some kind of small sparrow, nothing special but still exciting.
Mom did carefully water the other side of the pot so both the plant and bird should be happy.

BooBear, our mom once upon a time too ornithology classes at Cal State Long Beach. After 2 years she decided birds should be classified as: Birds that swim, Birds that kill and, Little brown birds. It makes it all so much easier. Needless to say, the prof didn’t agree 🙁

We need advice from all our Plunder experts – Mama is considering going to an office store to pick up an ipad mini for her trip and for future travels.
She has never had a pad, but does use her iphone a lot. Is this a good idea, or should she forget about it?

Herbs, I have both an iPad and iPhone. I like the iPad because it makes it a lot easier to type. I do not have the data package installed, so it does limit me as to where I can take it. Also, if you have a nook or a Kindle you gan get the free app on either or both, and read as well.

Mama basically wants something easy to transport so she can:
    email from the road
    check the blog
    do internet searches
pay bills and do her banking

Granted she can do all these things on her phone, but it is a tiny tap screen, and with her aging eyes and big fingers, isn’t always as easy as it could be.
(she doesn’t have a nook or a kindle – she likes real books)

So I spent $200 on a ticket to The Lion King on Broadway– 3rd seat from the aisle center section on the floor. Unfortunately, I sat beside a mother and her 4-year old who was afraid of the dark and of costumes and noise. He crawled into his mom’s lap and cried and screamed every time the lights darkened or something in a costume appeared. Talked non-stop. Mom alternately tried to comfort him and tell him to shut up. I asked her to move over to her son’s vacant seat to put space between us but she wouldn’t. Finally the son was begging to leave and they did leave for a bit. Son continued to talk non-stop the second act but did seem to like it more. He still was in his mom’s lap and would periodically kick me or fling his arm out and hit me. I now have a splitting headache.

I know the play is appropriate for kids and it was a matinee but the child was too young/immature to see it. I regret spending the money.

CHobbit! I am sorry that after all the money you spent, you had a bad experience.
I, too, have an aversion toward kids, particularly when they are spoiled brats. I think this is because parents want to be their kids “friend”, and not parents. Nowadays, it seems there are no consequences for bad behavior in children.

Back in the day, my mother would have said to me, “you want something to cry about, I’ll give you something to cry about.” My parents were strict, but we respected them. My parents always prided themselves on being able to take us kids anywhere. We knew how to behave.

OH, how sad. And Mom is sorry, she doesn’t remember reading that baby Jaxon had passed. We are very sorry to hear this.

C.Hobbit, how awful that your experience seeing the Lion King was ruined. That is a fantastic show and the costumes and performances are awesome. And how very rude of that mother not to take her child out of the theater. I’m surprised that that the usher didn’t ask her to remove him. It may have been a matinee, but a crying child is much worse than a happy chatter box.

I will try to take a picture of the tiny egg and post it.

Boobear, We doubt if the mother has abandoned the nest. She will lay an egg every day till she has laid 3 or 4. She will not start setting till they are all laid. Otherwise they would not all hatch at the same time.

We here like kids, but only well behaved ones. We think you should have asked for your money back, or a ticket for another performance, if you have the time.

Except for carrion birds, most birds have very little sense of smell. IT IS A MYTH that if you touch eggs the parent will abandon the eggs. The need to reproduce is strong in birds and they will return to a nest. B may disagree with my smart alec ideas but I am not a complete idiot about bird behavior.

  48. Barb & Maggie
    8:27 pm on May 3rd, 2014

People have different traditions or beliefs, but I guess if it makes them feel better it is fine. We heard of someone here who had a birthday cake for their deceased child and we thought it was a bit morbid. A memorial service is one thing, but singing Happy Birthday when they are not having a birthday is morbid.

Barb had a friend who didn’t have any children so she always got a Mother’s Day card from her kitty and dog. That seemed fine, but they continued to send her cards for years after they crossed the Bridge. That also seemed odd to us.

You may find it hard to believe, but we’ve experienced Luna’s firm, but loving paw firstpaw. Even though she doesn’t run with the race team, the Giant and the Pixie have been known to put her in the team when young dogs are first starting to run. If the yearling (or sometimes full grown Thief) starts acting up and you get put next to Luna. Oh, the shame!—You and your dew claw get back in line really quick. Luna has a firm, but loving paw, but we’ve never questioned her love.

HOH is right about birds not having a great sense of smell. It is also a myth that you can’t put a baby bird back in the nest if it falls out.

Barb walked outside this afternoon and there was a Kestrel Hawk in the neighbor’s yard with a bird it had just caught and killed. It saw Barb and took off with the little bird in its talons.
