The Rest Is Silence/Silence Is The Rest

“Think we should wade in on this Mitt Romney rooftop dog controversy?” Spence says.

“Nope,” says Admin.

“But – “

“Absolutely not! Do we want to be part of the national din?”

“Guess not.”

“And besides, at the moment we’ve got Pearl digging holes again.”

“I’ll open the window and yell Stop!”

“That’ll work.”

Welcome Shoshone & Mollie, Bailey Rose, Sydney, and Sadie.

    Good morning, all.

Welcome to all new FOC: Oliver, Bertie, Shoshone,, Mollie, Bailey Rose, Sydney. Sadie, and of course Annabelle, our newest retiree.

Shiek is still producing foam from his mouth, but hopefully the shot will kick in and get his allergic response to settle down. That boy has foam everwhere! Kat and Meashka both helped the Big Vet check Shiek’s vitals. All were fine.

Mom, on the other hand, is even sicker. She has some sort of flu it seems, and now it has affected her intestines badly, if you catch our drift. So much work to do, and she picks now to be sick. Poor Pop.

Spence and Admin, we thought we saw Pearl and Audrey on the DAR page…just sayin’.

Spence and Admin, I hate to tell you this but yelling out the window to stop Pearl from digging.

When you do have a way to stop her (besides doing your entire yard in concrete) let us know. Grace is a great digger! The Pack would like to stop watching for booby traps.

The traps have started early. We usually have a trap free yard until late May.

Whoops. Let me fix that first sentence.

Spence and Admin, I hate to tell you this but yelling out the window will not stop Pearl from digging.

“The rest is silence.” Hamlet’s final words. Now, what did he mean by “rest”?

    Go Pearl!! (Sorry Spence.)

    Good morning all.

Good morning all. Beautiful day here.

Sorry to hear that Oley’s mom is under the weather. Glad Shiek is better.

We agree with Melanie, yelling is not going to do much for the digging. Sometimes you just gotta do it. I don’t usually dig just for the heck of it. Last year a little ground squirrel foolishly tried to set up housekeeping by our front porch, and in easy reach of the bird feeder. I dug two holes that were over a foot deep trying to find him. Barb was not happy! He finally moved.

    Good Morning,
Checking in after a couple of hectic weeks that have kept me out of touch. We had a death in the family and lots of nieces and nephews that I haven’t seen in years were in town. Much of my time was spent with them, and I’ve been back at work again. So much for my fifth retirement.I have been
reading the blog, but haven’t had much to add. As I’ve read there have been lots of things I’ve thought I should say something about when I post, but I can’t remember what they were. One thing I can report is that Blou was on Adequan for a very long time and it helped him greatly.
Have to add my thanks for the note from AJ. The race certainly was an experience that I never expected to be a part of. There were times when I couldn’t believe how uneasy I was while sitting here in my easy chair reading about his situations along the trail. Tyb and Blou say it was quite a ride. Thanks Rebecca and AJ for making it possible for them to ride along.
I don’t have much planned for the week ahead and should be able to keep up to date with goings on at Chet the Dog; but, then again, so much of my life is unplanned I’ll just have to wait and see.
In any case let me say I hope that things are looking up for all of you.

    Good morning all.
Geez Bee – no one told us there was going to be a test!

Its cool and damp here. so no working on the bear today. Mama is headed off to the Mud Room instead. We had a very early start (for us) when a bear decided to walk through our yard at 6 am. Our housemate Callie, the Great Pyrenees was outside already, and she took great offense, as evidenced by her deep bass, resonating “WOOF”! So Gilly had to chime in. She was trying to take the backdoor down to get out, so it was just easier to let her go.

Happy to report, the yard is now free of bears – except the one on the deck that Mama is working on.

Good to hear from you Tyb. Get better Howler’s Mom and Sheik.
Hope Maggie is starting to feel tip top again.

Chad is going to Teen Challenge on Tuesday!

We are still dealing with his lost ID card. He left it some kids car in the next town over.

“Mom, don’t stress out. I told you that I will take care of it and I will.”

“Okay, son. Just don’t wait until the last minute. I don’t want to be chasing down your ID on the way to Monterey Bay.”

I see our post timestamps are still on Standard Time. I have some thoughts.

First I thought Mike Baker was on vacation and just didn’t get around to doing anything. No, guess not.

Now I think we have very old software. Way back in 2007, Daylight Saving Time was changed from the first Sunday in April to the second Sunday in March. I was still working and we had patches to apply to the system software. Could that really be the reason? That was a long time ago. If it is, next Sunday we will finally go on DST.

Or maybe we’re just going to wait until this fall when we go back on standard time. Ha ha.

Brave Royals keeping the yard clear of bears (running in the shadow of Callie. tee hee) Now, don’t get all huffy. I know you don’t need a Great Pyrenees to protect you. You are doing a fine job. But, wait. What’s that on the deck?

O.Howlers: Bring your mom some chicken soup and tuck her under the Quilt for the day.

    10:28 am on March 25th, 2012

OK Bee – we are taking a shot at this – but keep in mind, we have only a passing knowledge of old Will – high school was a loooong time ago.
“The rest is Silence” – Hamlet was the last of the family line, by his death, the crown passes to a new familial reign.

Also, during the play, Hammy has been haunted by his father’s death, and questioning if death is truly the end. There are many stories of people with their last breath, seeing their new destination, and going towards it willingly, even happily. Could it be that Hamlet in his dying moments sees his “future” which is not the heaven that he expected, but instead is only nothingness, and silence?

  27. Tyb
    11:42 am on March 25th, 2012

We missed our chance to bask in the sunshine. We had a record high 82 degrees on Wednesday. Today is cold, rainy, and dreary. The weather forecast is for temperatures in the 20s for the next two nights and only in the low 30s during the day. That could
be disastrous for the trees and flowers that have started to bud. I hope that the weather people are wrong again as they so frequently are.

  28. B.Stover
    11:43 am on March 25th, 2012

In Hamlet’s final lines he’s asking his best friend, Horatio, to let the world know what occurrences “solicited” (instigated) the actions of the final scene. Earlier he said (specifically to the spectators of the scene) that if he had time “O, I could tell you–But let it be.” “Rest” could mean remainder–the rest of the story should not be told (silence is best) because it might cause the hearers to want further revenge.

Hamlet is Shakespeare’s take on the ancient Greek revenge tragedies. I’ve always thought that Hamlet (the “modern man” living in a medieval world) knows that revenge may be sweet but it only breeds further revenge. He wants revenge to end with his death.

The real question is why did Spence use that title for his post and then ask about wading in on the Mitt Romney rooftop dog controversy? …snort!… He seems to prefer being silent instead of adding to “the National din” on the topic…grunt! …. Both AJ and I had to work yesterday in town, but met up after our work was finished. He took me on a date to see Hunger Games. Neither of us had read the book, but enjoyed the movie.

Charris: Nome! Next year! I like the sound of that! I’m happy to share with you some of the things that I’ve learned the last two years in Nome during Iditarod like where and when to book, the craft fair, poetry reading, volunteer opportunities for the race, etc. I’m also happy to remind all youse that the invitation stands for the Plunderers to join us for the pre-race festivities!

Today I take AJ to the airport. He is leaving for a week of training for work in Hawaii of all places. He’s going from one extreme to the other. Later this week, I head for Dutch Harbor—think Deadliest Catch—for work.

Tyb: Good to see you again. Can you email me your address to: snowhookkennel@gmail.com

Rose. Yes, we are still enjoying The Art of Fielding, although there is a bit of a problem. My dad just got another book from Amazon, and he may want to divert to read that first. The book is called Winterdance, and my dad says it comes highly recommended.
Also, for B & M, and other David Rosenfelt fans, we just finished reading his latest book, which is a stand alone (and not an Andy Carpenter) called Heart of a Killer. It is absolutely spectacular, perhaps the best thing he has written to date. Wookie

Hawaii! Now that is a great pplace for AJ to recover from the Iditarod. But where is Dutch Harbor?

Pop had to do all the hard work today, because Mom is still indoors. She is miserable, but at least now she knows the last raised bed is prepped and all that soil is out of the truck. If she is ever well again, they can take the truck and trailer Ned and Annie. We keep telling her that, but she keeps burrowing down deeper into the quilt.

We’re with Rio. What in the world was Spence and Admin trying to say by not saying? We are befuddled and believe us, we never use that word.

Dear Wookie’s Dad, I am interested in what you say about Heart of a Killer. I have found in the past that Rosenfelt’s non- Andy Carpenter books are very similar to the Andy Carpenters. You could just change the names and they would fit right into the AC series.

I am now looking forward to Heart of a Killer.

Fellow Sibers, Dutch Harbor is more or less in the middle of the Aleutian Islands. The chain of islands that take off into the sea southwest of Anchorage. The Aleutian Islands seperate the Bering Sea from the Pacific Ocean. Dutch Harbor is beautiful but bleak…all mountains except for the harbor.
During World War II, the Japanese invaded some of these islands, but the US eventually won the battle of the Aleutian Islands.

Staff. My dad says he would agree with your analysis of the non-Andy Carpenter Rosenfelt books (although they do tend to be a bit grittier than the Andy’s are), and the same is certainly true for Heart of a Killer — it could be Andy as the protagonist (but with a different supporting cast). His writing style is addictive, the plotting is even better than before (which is a high accolade) and the contextual story (or perhaps it is the main story) is just incredibly gripping and perhaps a bit more thought provoking that his earlier works. Dad read it to mom and me aloud and he blew through the last 150 pages or so in two days — we just couldn’t put it down, it was that good.

BTW, when I checked it, SiberH and Beau were together in Chet’s Friends — how cool is that? Wookie

Rio, We have the entire list right near the computer, and yes, Open & Shut is # 1, First Degree # 2. I would suggest reading them in order. He makes a lot of referrence to prior happenings.

Melanie, What are lows and what do they do to you?

O.Howlers: Amazon Prime said only one episode was free the others were $1.99 each. This was for Season 1 in 2009. Do we have the wrong one? It says Iditarod: The Toughest Race on Earth.

Reading!….sniff!….She says we will get back to reading more once all her quilling orders are filled…grunt!…I’ve been hearing that line of bull since last October…huffle!… She says she will not be taking any more orders. That she needs to concentrate on making stuff for the Snowhook Memorial Blow-out Extravaganza…chuffle!…I think all of youse guys should be thinking along those lines too. April and May will fly right by us and then it will be June….snort!….And you know what is due in June, don’t you?…gruffle!

Barb – we think Melanie has gone to her soft warm bed. When she talks about Lows, she is talking about low pressure systems which really affect her and make her groggy.

Hey Howlers- whats the word on how both Sheik and your Mom are doing?

T&G, both Mom and Shiek are improving, but have a long ways to go to tip-top. Mom still can’t eat much; at least Shiek is eating.

Rio – Mama loved to be scared by Dark Shadows when she was a kid. Quentin and Angelique and good old Barnabus.

Johnny Depp seems to think he has to play ALL the iconic roles. What’s next – Johnny Depp as Tarzan?

  87. Siber-H
    10:00 pm on March 25th, 2012

Dark Shadows looks to be a real loser. Johnny Depp as Barnabus is pathetic, but wait till you see him as Tonto wearing a crow on his head.
Unfortunately, “crow’ is not one of my typos.

Mom has been reading the Andy Carpenter series because y’all have been saying how great it is. She just loves it. However, she must have gotten out of order. Amazon says it puts them in order but evidently not. Could someone please post the books in order sometime so we can proceed as we should?

Wookie, we will check out Heart of a Killer also.

We are waiting for Amazon to deliver our copy of Winterdance! That should be fun.

We just finished a stand alone Janet Evanovich, “Love in a Nutshell” and it was very dog oriented.

We would be happy with the “little” mountains in the foreground of the picture.
We recommend the following book for those not proficient in herding:
