The Point

Tomorrow I’ll be on The Point at WCAI (Cape and Islands NPR), hosted by Mindy Todd, where we’ll be discussing books on our shelves at home, what with this situation. 9-10AM ET. I was thinking of The Wind in the Willows, Dan Crenshaw’s new book, a recent Hitler bio (maybe I’ll skip it but it was good), a book about Chaucer in 1386, a funny novel called The Idiot by Elif Batuman, maybe the Arthur Ashe memoir – because I’m missing tennis, a book on Lincoln as a great writer … and … any suggestions?

It does sound interesting! I would like to read Dan Crenshaw’s book. I recently finished reading this book, and enjoyed it very much…

It is a lovely spring day in this neck of the woods.

    Make it a good day!

Doing a test because having some troubles posting. My last post may have had a bad word in it.

    Will try again.

It was just a week ago yesterday that Spence posted the link to the Jungle Red Writers website which included Chet among those that one of the writers would want as part of her quarantine house. They also requested people to send in photos of pets that are quarantine comforters already, and on Thursday (April 23) they published a Parade of Pet Pals. Someone you know very well made an appearance there, including a shout out to OFA. If you want to see it, go to Jungle Red Wrwiters website and look for the blog entry for April 23, 2020. I tried including the link, but I think the link has the bad word in it.

That’s better. The bad word appears be be the noun that describes our current situation in a medical context — pan something or other. It was nice of my avatar to put in an appearance as well.

W&Ts Paw: We have never heard you say a bad word. According to Luna it is because you are a gentleman. And, still according to Luna, gentleman don’t use four-letter words like shew.

Thieves. Please thank Luna for me for that kind endorsement, and rest assured that I would never utter that particular four letter word. The problem here was an eight letter word that ended in demic.

W&Ts Paw: Eight letters! Do you think we should just be concerned with four-letter words, or is words divisible by four? If so, Beau won’t like all the eight-letter words we’ve used. We need to get out ahead of this.

We thought that both of those words, “four “ and “word”, were four letter words.

Hmmm….my post disappeared and it didn’t have a bad word in it I swear (but I didn’t swear, honestly). Anyhoo, the blog post on the Jungle Red Writers web blog is on April 22 NOT April 23. You will have to scroll past a ton of cats to get to the dogs but our handsome Teddy RRR is there.

Boo. If you go back to Spence’s post from last week, I think that has the link to the website in it. Once you get to the website, you just need to navigate to the correct date, which apparently is April 22.

Wow, Teddy you are a star! I could not post the link either. I am quite familiar with the picture of you and Spence. I am wondering where you are in the other picture…I can’t believe you will be turning 7 soon! Grizz and I met you when you were still a puppy!

I have been wondering about Pearl too.

Rose; The picture of Teddy that I posted was actually taken fairly close to you; it was taken at the Franklin Roosevelt Hyde Park estate, probably in the late summer of 2018. He was actually standing in front of a large sign for Hyde Park, but I cropped that out to focus just on young Theodore.

I’d be lying if I said that I don’t worry every time I see the Thieves! with their heads together. They’ve been struggling with the pansomethingorother. Not for health reasons, but because of the increased time in bible study. Today, I caught them thinking thoughts and planning plots. Just as I was about to call W&Ts Paw, I put down the phone. They came up with an idea that is, er uncharacteristically uncharacteristic. They’ve given me the nod to share their idea, and I quote:

“For many years, the Plunderers rallied around the kennel and lightened our burden in countless ways. You made starting lines and finish lines and all those points in between possible. You’ve made us laugh through worry, and swaddled sinking hearts during sleepless nights. You’ve cared for us and for that, we are forever grateful. Now, there is an opportunity to rally and to lighten burdens of others. Our sweet Storyteller is in a care facility for veterans. We’ve been thinking thoughts about starting a letter writing campaign for our favorite Holy Man to brighten his day and let him know he is loved. But wait! There’s more! We are thinking thoughts about sending letters to veterans at the same facility who historically haven’t had a lot of visitors or currently don’t receive a lot of calls and letters—We wonder out loud if there is a way to get their names. Plunderers! Who’s with us?!? Please say yes because Beau says he will give us a hall pass from bible study for the likes of the Storyteller and his contemporaries. Please say yes!”

Oh! And if you needed more selling points, this plan doesn’t require a line item for bail so far. And! According to Beau it counts towards penance for misdeeds for which we were wrongly accused.

Recon! We have begun our recon. Thanks to Golinka, we now know that we can send letters to the Storyteller at the below address:

    Leonard FourHawks – CLC
    VA Medical Center
    421 N. Main St
    Leeds, MA 01053

We can’t get our paws on the name of specific vets, but we can send letters to the address below and the staff will distribute to those in need of lifting:

    Our Honored Veteran – CLC
    VA Medical Center
    421 N. Main St
    Leeds, MA 01053

We are committing to sending a letter a week to the Storyteller at least until they are no longer in lockdown. And! At least a letter a week to a veteran we don’t know, but love anyway.

Will anyone see our bet and raise?

Letter!…I do not know what to say to a VET. Besides the usual thank you for your service..sniff!..This seems so…usual. The fact is maybe these guys need pen-pals…just speculating. Maybe they need someone that will tell them about the life we here now enjoy because of their service and ask them what they need to make their life better….sniff!..I am just a Pug who can get sick(apparently!)…so I am speculating about what we here at this here blog will be writing to our designated VETS..(not Vets DMV!)…snort!

Rio: This a good question. Our Lady is thinking about telling them about our life in Alaska thanks to them, or who Leonard is to us and why we want to write to him or her, or about our blog family and how we came to be and care for them. Us? We want to see if they are available for giving alibis on short notice. Nothing says trust and fidelity like a veteran.

We are excited to see who else will join in the letter writing fun. We are hopeful that this will lift spirits. We have been on the receiving end of generosity of kindness that we are excited to be on this side. We wonder if we will pull a muscle. We better stretch first—-better safe than sorry!
