The Plunderers and Snowhook

Below are two views of a beautiful work of art presented to AJ and Rebecca of Snowhook Kennel yesterday, in honor of their performance in the 2012 Iditarod Race.

And these are the Plunderers own words. (For those who don’t know, the Plunderers are a group of friends who have found each other here at chetthedog.com, and did a magnificent job helping sponsor Snowhook in the race.)

“In honor of Snowhook’s valiant completion of the 100th Iditarod, the Plunderers hereby present ‘Northern Lights’ to AJ and Rebecca as an expression of our love and admiration. Created by Amalia FourHawks, this pottery is comprised of clay, crystals and magic. We thank AJ and Rebecca for sharing their dreams with us and for allowing us to join them on this glorious adventure.”

    Good Morning All!

The completed “Northern Lights” is just breathtaking!
Amalia: Thank you so much for your hard work in creating such a beautiful tribute to Rebecca and AJ. We love you!

Rebecca and AJ: If it weren’t for you, us Plunderers would never know what it is like to run the Iditarod trail. Thanks AJ for the ride of a lifetime. Snowhook, we love you all!

Good morning all! Thanks for posting the pictures, Admin. The pot is simply splendiforous. Thank you so much for giving your time and incomparable talent, Amalia. And thanks to all the Plunderers for allowing us to be a small part in this gift.

We were kept hopping yesterday, so we didn’t get time to catch up until this morning. Didn’t youse guys like our Royal Flush picture? Mom had us take the only spare 5 minutes of our day to post that yesterday. She thought it was hysterical, in light of T&G’s punchline from a few days ago.

Shiek is continuing to improve. He looks better and feels better. He is eating, although still not back to his normal amount of grain. He is grateful to all of the plunderers, as we are, for your positive thoughts, prayers, and concern. The quilt was most healing. He is moving out of it now so there will be room for anyone in need.

The pictures are wonderful. Thank you for posting them. I can’t even imagine the hours of work (not to mention talent) that went into such a project. How can we even say thank you to Amalia.

Glad Shiek is better and yes, we loved the Royal Flush photo. Too funny and timely as well.

    Good Morning Bear and OH:

My wise, wonderful, Bear, you’ve brought a tear to my eye!

Pot!…Now I think we all have to go to Alaska next year so we can see and touch the Northern Lights…snorkel!…How did we ever keep that secret so long?…sniff!…An amazing feat of deception…heh!heh!

    Good morning all.
Rio – you got that right – keeping the secret was the hardest part! And your friend’s new piece is just lovely! The flowers are done in a different kind of technique aren’t they?

Howlers – now Gilly wants one of those port-a-potty things all her own.

BearSpiritDog – yes there was a lot of love – the love of all the Plunderers, the love of AJ for his doggies, the love of Rebecca for her Giant – all that love translated itself into the vision of the pot.

Special thanks to Melanie for taking such beautiful pictures, and to Wolfie’s mom Mary and Melanie for their perfect words.

    Good morning everyone!
Chet, Spence and Admin, Thank you for posting photos of Amalia’s beautiful Northern Lights Pot O Gold.
It doesn’t seem like a mere thank you is enough to convey what the Plunderers feel and want to express to Amalia and Leonard for all they do for us.
Howlers: We were chuckling over the Royal Flush photo of yesterday. A very clever follow-up.
Shiek: We are so happy you are feeling clip-clop (a tip of the proverbial hat to Bella) and back to your old self.
    That quilt is magical!

Good morning, y’all! Yesterday was so busy around here that Mom never even remembered to turn the computer on for me. Frigglesnitz! In the morning there was church — complete with handbells, a hot-cross-buns breakfast and an Easter egg hunt for the kids. (Mom brought home extra hot cross buns, but she didn’t bring me back any eggs.) Then after church she stayed to clean up, and then she had to keep pastor busy in her office so someone could give her a surprise. Then when she finally got home, Mom and Dad planted some of the stuff they bought on Saturday. And my boy and his girlfriend — but no pugs! — stopped on their way back from her family’s Easter celebration for some of Mom’s cream cheese pie. Dad shared it with me — that was some pretty tasty stuff!

Mom and Dad went shopping for Easter dinner on Saturday, but instead of ham, they came home with steak and potatoes. Mom was shocked, but Dad decided he wanted something a little different this year. However, after working in the yard all afternoon, Mom just wasn’t in a steak-and-potatoes mood. So get this. Dad has been hankering for one of the new Taco Bell Dorito tacos. So Mom and Dad went to Taco Bell for Easter dinner. How weird is that???

Kirby!…You can send the Steak and Potatoes this way if you don’t want them…snort!…Someone here has been wanting to fire up the grill in a big way but her mother is afraid of it for some reason…grunt! …What the hell?

What beautiful photos (made somewhat easier by the exquisite subject of the photos). So many thank yous are in order. To Amalia for creating such a lovely memento and allowing the rest of the Plunderers to share in the giving. To Rebecca and AJ for sharing the thrill of the Iditarod with us and the adventure of a lifetime. To Melanie and Mary and Rio’s friend for their organizational skills in making this happen and keeping it a well-kept secret for so long. To SQ/PA for posting the photos and more importantly for giving us the means to come together to be able to celebrate and share our lives’ highs and lows with one another. And an extra special thanks to Whitey-Lance, because if you had not gone walk-about a couple of years ago, the rest of us may never have even become aware of Snowhook and the special joy that it has brought to the Plunderers.
At the end of the Passover Seder, the participants close the ceremony by saying Next Year in Jerusalem. I agree with Rio — Next Year in Willow.

  16. Barb & Maggie
    10:32 am on April 9th, 2012

Kirby, what types of veggies did your folks plant?

Rio, we fired up the grill this weekend and did a pork steak. It was excellent. Barb’s bro says he thinks pork steaks are a midwest thing. They are from the front shoulder and are a rectangular cut that is usually cut about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Great on the grill with some bar-b-que sauce. Baked beans, cole slaw and garlic bread complete the meal. Does anyone else make them?

Wookie: Thank you for expressing what was in our Hearts.

Melanie: Wrapping you in the Quilt. Patsy will make sure you get some rest.

Barb&Magpie: We usually have pork chops here, but the barbequed pork steak sounds scrumptious.

Kirby: Your folks going to Taco Bell for Easter dinner is a hoot!

    I second what Wookie said!

Melanie: Hope you’re feeling tip-top or clip-clop — take your choice, or both! — real soon.

B&M: Veggies? Mom didn’t plant no stickin’ veggies! The only green things Mom eats are green beans. No lettuce, no peas, no nuthin! The stuff they planted yesterday was pretty stuff like flowers. They also bought some shrub, but Dad needs to do some work on the porch before they plant those.

Rio: Sorry, I think Mom and Dad are planning on having that steak and potatoes tonight. Usually on Monday nights they don’t get home until 9 or later, but they both have today off, so they’re planning to take total advantage of their new-found freedom!

  22. Barb & Maggie
    10:58 am on April 9th, 2012

Bear, Chops are from the loin (back quarter) and pork steaks are from the front shoulder. Chops are usually a more expensive cut. Barb’s dad used to do them on the grill many moons ago, so that is one reason she is partial to them.

I’m not surprised to see tha I’m not the only one still standing and clapping for all the work that went into this wonderful surprised. We are truly honored by this gift. Thank you to B and Wolfie, to Golinka, Melanie, Rio ad Jodi, the person not the puppy. I hope I didn’t forget anyone.

Phew! I thought I was going to have to ask all youse guys if anyone had a spare 1985 Jeep Cherokee carburetor laying around, because the guy at the garage said his source had one for $1,100! Dad’s car is only worth about $5.49, so he didn’t want to have to pay that much. But luckily he found a much cheaper one someplace else. Dad promised Mom when he bought the Jeep brand-new, that he would drive it into the ground. We thought he’d gotten there. Mom was trying to calculate how much they’d have to slash my treat budget in order to make a car payment. Boy am I glad they won’t have to do that now!!!

SiberH: Luna wants me to let you know that she never thought your intentions were less than honorable. I am also to tell you that Belle Starr is great to have around if trouble is about to be or has been caused. Something about tr cute factor allowing most everything to be forgiven. I wonder what she means by that?

W.L. Says that his walk about was the smartest thing he’s done. I don’t know if I agree that it was smart, but I’m glad it brought us together.

Belle Starr – you look lovely in your bling! And pink is just right. I, Tupper, have a golden collar with what I am sure are genuine diamonds. Gilly has the junior edition. Hers is silver (and I’m pretty sure her stones are rhinestones. She is SUCH a tomboy)

Siber – you poor puppy. You are just sitting there minding your own business, and all the girls just fall in live with you. Is that what they call “animal magnetism”?

Rio – we love you from the points of your mismatched teeth to the tip of your curly little tail.

Hey plunderers! Enjoying a sunshiny day here in the middle of the mitten. Mom walked by the capitol building and posted a picture on her facebookie page.

When she was coming home to me! me! me! she saw a late-model chevy pickup truck with a three stooges mural on the tail gate. What a way to ruin a perfectly fine truck, yuck, yuck, yuck.

The pictures of the plunderpot are lovely and it was so nice to see it arrived safe and sound.

Mom is in a kerfluffle about 352 schitzoo (sp) doggies that were rescued today from horrible circumstances. She’s posted on her facebookie about that too. The county shelter has room for 36 dogs. Many rescue agencies and individuals are offering assistance. They are asking for bleach, food, towels, people who know how to groom, blankets and $$ to help care for these animals. This is the Allegan County Shelter. Allegan county is southwest of Grand Rapids.

On the plus side, mom has baked chocolate chip pecan cookies to celebrate the birthday of a coworker. The coworker is a grumpy sort, always negative, always complaining and never has a nice word to say about anything. Mom’s decided she going to keep on treating this lady nice even though the constant negativity is draining.

I got a bonus for my Easter. The neighbors upstairs threw some cake over their balcony. I ate it all! Mom was pissed because their over-the-balcony trash bin is our front yard and she’s sick of picking up their cig butts. She also wasn’t pleased that all the ants came to share the cake with me.

Sissy had her first chemo treatment and is not feeling well, running a low-grade fever and achy all over. Doc says it is from the shot she gets the day after chemo which is supposed to help with white blood cells. Sissy says all her joints ache. Mom keeps telling her to rest, but Sissy is a lot like Dan the Man, very hard to keep down.

Guess what. Maggie is home from the hospital. We are really happy about that. The hard part is that she needs more help now than before. Or, she might have needed the extra help before but we never asked her and she never volunteered it. So I will be getting up a half hour earlier and making sure she has help getting up, getting dressed and getting to the WC. Then I get her some breakfast and go to work. We will see how she does in the daytime. We might need to find someone to stay with her until I get off work.
I am so glad that Dawson will be here on Friday to help. (Until I leave her alone here) So Maggie still needs a bit of the quilt but the middle is available for anyone else since Shiek and Maggie are leaning over the edge and feeling much better.

KirbyT: Well, my heart is racing and if I had a curly tail it would be straight. The moose inched its way closer and closer to the kennel. I wanted it to break off into the trees but it didn’t. For a half a mile I kept my distance, but three times it turned, stared at me and charged my vehicle only to stop half a dozen feet away. Then it would stop to eat and slowly make its way along the driveway. As we neared the kennel Luna, Tenz and Belle Starr ran up to it, barking, yarking and growling. I looked for AJ. Nothing. The dogs were too close for comfort. Wyatt got loose, ran up and the moose kicked. I was mad. How dare he? I honked te horn, startled him enough to where he ran up to the house and away from the kennel, put the car in park, ran to the middle of the kennel and started calling for loose dogs only to realize that several other dogs had gotten loose to come to my aid. As I was securing and calling dogs AJ drove up on the snow machine and helped me finish the task. Now, the moose was the moat between us and our castle. We got in the car, drove it as close to our front steps as possible and made for the front door. AJ grabbed the shotgun and fired into the air until the moose ran down the trail and away from the dogs.

    1:28 am on April 10th, 2012

Oh. My. Gosh! Rebecca, I’m so glad you’re safe. I kept refreshing and you didn’t answer and I was so afraid the moose had charged and hadn’t stopped! When Dad went to Alaska for the Army back when my boy was just a baby, he brought back a moose puppet — which got Dad a lot of stewardess action on the plane coming back! That moose was just a furry, funny thing — who would have guessed the real thing could be so mean?! I’m so glad that you, AJ and the dogs all worked together to scare him off. Is Wyatt OK? Did the moose miss when he kicked???

  134. Snowhook Bella
    1:40 am on April 10th, 2012

KirbyT: Give me a puppet moose anyday. Moose in these parts can be aggressive as you ‘witnessed’ tonight. As far as Wyatt, it was difficult to tell for sure, I just saw the kick in his direction and I got poodled up. We will keep an eye on Wyatt. He ate his dinner and trying to play with Annabelle—secretly, I think he’s trying to talk her out of her food.

  135. Kirby T. Penworthy
    1:52 am on April 10th, 2012

Rebecca: Wow, when you get poodled up, you get fierce! I think I would have sat in the car trembling — I’m not sure I could have moved my paw to open the door. And if I had, I’m not sure my knees would have held me up! I hope Mom and Dad would be that brave if I were ever in that much trouble! Not that I expect to encounter a moose anytime soon!!!

  136. Snowhook Bella
    1:57 am on April 10th, 2012

KirbyT: Staying in the car and waiting it out was exactly the plan until the dogs became part of the equation. A moose can be deadly to a dog and I wasnt about to let that happen. To balance the image I my fierceness, I must tell you that I’m sure I looked ridiculous yelling at the moose while I stood in the kennel in my high heels and dress slacks. And, if it ever comes to it, I’ve got your back.

Now that she knows you’re safe, she says she needs to get some sleep, and as things stand now it’s going to be awhile before she’ll be able to calm down enough to fall asleep before it’s time to get up again! I’m not sure that makes sense, but at 2 a.m. my brain is definitely not firing on all cylinders!!!

Good night, y’all! Stay safe and don’t let any moose use your charge card — or something like that!
