The Morning After
What a great Super Bowl party! General Beauregard even showed up, with our weapons guy Otis DeWayne. Did we have fun or what? And the owners of the Dry Gulch said not to worry about any of the damage. They’re from New Orleans originally and they were jumping up and down practically the whole night! Jumping up and down turns out to be catchy.
Right now Bernie’s still sleeping. Sometimes he moans a bit. Eventually he’ll get up, swallow some aspirin, down some coffee and start to feel better. Colonel Bob called and the answering machine took it. I’m getting restless.

We have a TiVo– a digital recorder thingie– and whoever set it to record the Super Bowl only left an extra hour of recoding time at the end. So after we got the kids to bed, hubby and I were sitting catching up with the game, husband only a little invested and I just along for the ride. So we got up to the awesome two point conversion and the Colts were just starting to come back– and the recoding ended.
It's a good thing we're not much for football.

Chet!…Does Bernie still have his shirt!?…snort!..heh..heh
Guys!…help me out…grunt!…I can't remember who General Beauregard is?…was he in book 2?

BTW– better than the Super Bowl, by far, is the Pistachio Tub. Eddie the cat likes to find those shells where the nut meat came out, leaving the two halves attached to each other, so it's a nice, round, easy-to-carry, whole-but-empty shell. He takes them into the tub and chases them endlessly. Thump-a-thump-a-thump-a-thump– with a high-pitched skittering sound as the shell skates over the nearly frictionless tub enamel.
Much more entertaining than football.

Oh! More Newfie pics! Melanie, you take the best!
5:43 am on February 8th, 2010
Rio: General Beauregard is the German Shepherd of Otis DeWayne and he and Chet have fun chasing things in the desert in Dog On It.
5:48 am on February 8th, 2010
Love the Newf pics! It's making Mom really jealous! She wants one really bad and thought the Newf should have won his group in the dog show, and then possibly the show.
We, as cats, also love to play with endless toys. And we each have our favorite. Particular to the ones that make ALOT of noise in the middle of the night for Mom & Dad to hear. LOL!
6:04 am on February 8th, 2010
Stover!…Now I remember the General…its tricky keeping the Colonels and the Generals straight…Snort!…what was the name of the sad bastard that liked up the gob of chew?…mmmm…
6:05 am on February 8th, 2010
Chet you guys have the coolest friends! Abbie you and Alice are quite the lookers I must say. Rebecca, your cat Eddie is very creative. When I get bored (like during the superbowl) I just sleep or chew on my bone. Right now it's nice and sunny, when I'm done giving this report to Mom, I'm going back to lie down right in the sun! Melanie, awesome newf pics, wow those guys love that giant ball!
6:07 am on February 8th, 2010
Guys I was just thinking of that 'gob of chew' guy. I could only remember he was Chet and Bernie's mechanic's dog and a real bruiser, but we looked back and couldn't find his name – anyone remember?
6:18 am on February 8th, 2010
Rio – Mom laughed when you told A-Kat that her staff should lock her in the closet for the day. You don't want to hear it but you are such an adorable grumpy pug. Spence should put you in his next book.
6:22 am on February 8th, 2010
Second that, Rio you would be great in a Chet and Bernie adventure!
6:29 am on February 8th, 2010
The mechanic's dog is Spike.
6:42 am on February 8th, 2010
Thanks MP! Hey where is Wookie? I miss that big hairy guy!
6:57 am on February 8th, 2010
Spike!…he’s part Rottie and something else…
grunt!…PFC Wookie is on a special mission and probably won’t be showing his face around here too soon.
7:11 am on February 8th, 2010
Chet and Bernie and Me!…Snort!…I don’t know guys…that would mean having to work with Spencer.
Wheeze!…all those disabilities, not to mention the pointy head…things could get dicey.
7:17 am on February 8th, 2010
I think he's also part pit. Rio you more of a solo act?
7:48 am on February 8th, 2010
Cosmo!…Hell!..I can get along with anyone…snort!… just as long as they do what I want.
7:56 am on February 8th, 2010
Wookie's in Chevy Chase so I hope he's not buried in all that snow. TV says there's more on the way. Just so you know, I live in Buffalo, NY. Where's our snow? Where's Wookie?
8:04 am on February 8th, 2010
Of course Rio, I forgot you're a commander after all!
I hope Wookie got himself that Snuggie!
MP here in SW CT we're supposed to get lots of snow on Wed. we can't wait! Up where you are in Buffalo you're famous for snow. We saw pics a couple years ago where it was up to the rooftops. You're having a light year this time huh?
8:04 am on February 8th, 2010
Commander Rio. Secret mission accomplished, fully successful. No more problems on that front.
Cosmo. Thanks of thinking of me. We were without power for more nearly 48 hours, so no computer access. And my people thought it was really, really cold (I kind of liked it though; with a double fur coat like I have, cold is not a problem). I'll report in in greater detail later, but we had nearly three feet of snow and, yikes, more is on the way (they are now saying another 10 inches tomorrow night). The snow is way over even my head; my dad had to shovel out part of the back yard so I can do my business (thank's dad). Cosmo, my dad even tried to get an email message to your mom on his Blackberry (whatever that is) to let you know I was okay, but for some reason it didn't work. In any event, back on line now, and hopefully the power will stay on.
Signing off for now, PFC Wookie of Chevy Chase.
8:15 am on February 8th, 2010
Whew, glad everything's OK Wookie, we were all wondering! Wow almost two days without power and three feet of snow yikes! Thank your dad for trying to get in touch with us, I'm not surprised that it didn't work though, tell your dad you're supposed to eat blackberries (love berries) not send messages on them! Honestly, our packs…good thing we love them! Hope that power stays on, stay warm!
8:20 am on February 8th, 2010
Got some pix – Commander Rio one is me heading out on my secret mission and the other is enjoying the refreshing snow! Thanks for tech support, aka Mom for making this possible.

Molly's snow report (pay attention Siberian Husky) – We have a lot of dog sledding here every winter and there was a picture in the paper of those Huskies in a team pulling a sled in Delaware Park. I don't know how well those sleds pull with so little snow.
Most of our snow is south of us in ski country, and that's not so good either. At least they can make snow, so all the Siberian Huskies come here with their sleds. They come in their special trucks, with all their heads out the window, and can't wait to just get going. I don't see what the big deal is! Stay warm, I say.
9:17 am on February 8th, 2010
Thanks for the snow report Molly. Wish I could have been there. I have been lobbying my folks to move further north, but that's not gonna happen. Mom is less tactful than you are. She says all of us huskys are nuts.
All of you that are in all that snow, and I guess more is on the way, Stay Safe!
9:37 am on February 8th, 2010
You guys are funny!
10:20 am on February 8th, 2010
Rio. It was a little tricky getting past security, but with the fedora and sunglasses, I was able to slip by undetected. As to hanging upside down from the ceiling, I just used my tail. Indeed, you might say I drew my inspiration from the title of the second book, Thereby Hangs a Tail! On the sports front, while the superbowl was certainly okay, or at least the snacks were, the better game was Saturday, when the Georgetown Hoyas clobbered Villanova. Unfortunately, with the snow and all, my people could not make it to the game (although I am sure that my buddy Jack the Bulldog, the Georgetown mascot, was there). And with no power to boot, we were forced to listen to it on a hand-cranked radio. Still awesome, nonetheless. Wags to all. Wookie

Wookie!… Damn good work….snort!….I doubt anyone else would have been able to pull it off the clever way you did!…mmmm..
Grunt!… If Jack and Uga VII ever meet nose to nose…snort!..I wonder if there would be a big ole drag-down knock-out fight?
12:03 pm on February 8th, 2010
Guys!… I think I am going to invite FU, Alice Johnson, and Patsy Kline over to play cards Friday night.
Snort!…that could turn out to be quite a party!…I’ll keep you posted…grunt!
1:17 pm on February 8th, 2010
Wow awesome work PFC Wookie and awesome pics too!
1:38 pm on February 8th, 2010
Wookie!…you’re back early son…Snort!… You weren’t seen by anyone, were you PFC?…mmmm…were you able to modify that network and set up those miniature camera’s directly over the desk?? Grunt!…I knew that would be the most dangerous part of your mission..wheeze!… hanging upside down on the ceiling.
Damn!… this is good news!…A few more trips and we will be able to watch him Type (I use that word loosely) or Delete, or Pound or whatever he does when he writes. Gruff!
3:10 pm on February 8th, 2010
Wow I had no idea so much surveillance was going on. This way we will not have to bother Spence or Admin if we want to know anything more about III.
Keep up the good work guys.
Wookie and Melanie, awesome pictures guys. I am especially amazed at the snow. We have snow over our heads, but only where we have piled it up while shoveling. The rest of the snow is just a little over a 1-1/2 feet I think. So much for the Minnesota reputation for snow. However it is still snowing out there so maybe we will have enough to brag on.

A-Kat!…don’t let Alice Johnson hypnotize you and make you jump in a snow drift…Snort!…Being buried alive is a lot worse than being stuck in a closet all day…mmmm… or so I've heard.
4:25 pm on February 8th, 2010
A superbowl? Is that a big bowl? I only know of the puppy bowl, cute puppies! But I can do SO much better than those rats!!!! And the kitty halftime show was awesome, watched it with Megan. Megan doesn't care for those people with big colored different heads, that I hear are as hard as a rock!!!! I would know, too. Btw, don't headbutt into one of those! I heard that a colt won, whatever that is…. Oh, and in…… Something days, I'll be a year old. On February 23, so the countdown begins!!!! Oh, and locked in a closet? Oooh, try being jailed in a laundry bin with clean, or dirty, clothes because you tipped it over. And Megan just went right by me once, didn't even notice. Why do humans if they don't use them?!
5:10 pm on February 8th, 2010
Ahem!…Today unbeknownst to anyone but PFC Wookie and myself,…Snort!…one of the most daring, and courageous feats of heroic dedication was displayed.
PFC Wookie volunteered to set out on a mission all by himself…Snort!…Carrying only the bare necessities including: sophisticated camera equipment, software modification CDs, networking manuals, wires, cable, heavy tools, a tazor (just in case), his dad’s blackberry, a mp3 player with all his favorite music, his favorite treats and rawhide chews, his hat, his glasses, toys, and last of all a photo of me, just to inspire him during the journey…Wheeze!
He made his way to the perps home…mmmm…and managed to get inside using a clever disguise. Spence and the gang thought they were looking at the new housekeeper when he appeared on their front door step, and in fact, were eagerly awaiting her arrival. Snort! So he AS a she walked right in… Snort!…then while Spence and Bernie were busy pulling ticks out of Chet…Grunt!…our guy, Wookie, was HANGING BY HIS TAIL…carefully setting in place the delicate camera equipment that will allow us to watch as Spence types, um…pounds out the next novel.
Wookie!…he had some trouble getting out of the house, the surveillance equipment was acting up and all at once everyone wanted their bathrooms cleaned!…Grunt!!…but Wookie, being a very smart Rookie Spy pulled a fast one, he said he needed to go shopping for some cleaning supplies, which alas, Spence and the gang were very short on…Snort!!…what a lucky break that those guys are so filthy.
He…She!.. No…He! – escaped and made it safely home to report everything today!…SNORT!…so now we all are one major step closer to finding out about the next book…Grunt!…no doubt there is a lot of work and Intel yet to be done. But things are in motion and you will all be called on to do your part…SNORT!…so be ready for anything!!
5:41 pm on February 8th, 2010
Wow! And we just slept all day.
But…fantastic pictures of Wookie!! We don't believe we've seen any of him before, even in Friends of Chet. A very handsome fellow and what a coat.
Oh, and no snow here. Don't get much of that in Houston.
6:17 pm on February 8th, 2010
Wow man, I basically slept all day too – G & BB did you have a nice sunbeam to sleep in? I get one near the kitchen (always a good spot) for at least eight hours! Wookie I don't think I'm nearly as brave as you, great job dude! Thanks for all the details Cmdr. Rio – well, this isn't going to sound very exciting, but I can volunteer my services to bug Chet on twitter about this whole Col. Bob and his kids thing. What say you Cmdr? I'll make sure I keep looking at your pic (and Wookie's too) for inspiration! Tailwags, SA Cosmo
6:36 pm on February 8th, 2010
Cosmo!…I applaud your enthusiasm…snort!…But as a rule we never go after our guy Chet!…he is an Untouchable…he is our Hero!
Grunt!…It’s Spence, the weak one, we target. Snort!…That is our only true way in.
3:15 pm on February 9th, 2010
Rio, you ARE evil and diobolical. I want in! I'm small and can fit into small places! A lot smaller than wookie. Oh, and daddy watched a wars stars thing, there was a wookie named Chew……… something, that dude was SCARY!!!! Wookie doesn't look anything like that wookie, he is WAY WAY awesome looking.
