The Good Old Days
Uh-oh. Admin’s surrounded by piles of papers. He has ink on his face and is in a real bad mood. Must be tax time, whatever that is.
“Do you realize,” he says, must be to me, since no one else is around, “that before the 16th Amendment in 1913 there was no U.S. income tax, except for a brief period in the Civil War?” He throws up his hands. “Why couldn’t I have been born back then?”
A tough one. I’ve got no answers. On the floor I spot a sheet of paper with lots of writing on it. For no particular reason I pick it up and take it outside for burial.
Welcome Bernadette’s friend.

Good morning Chet, Admin, and all.
Seems to us that life was pretty rough back then. For example, there were no paved roads and horses were not ridden for pleasure. They were the main means of transportation, on dirt (mud) roads. Also, life was only good if you were at the Top of the Heap. Otherwise, you worked from the time you were about 8 until you died. No weekends. No holidays. And many more than 8 hours. So, all in all, we think we’ll take what we have now.
9:32 am on April 11th, 2012
I wouldn’t want to live back then. However, I don’t like filling out tax forms either.
Good morning Howlers and all.
9:33 am on April 11th, 2012
I’m not sure how it’s possible, but the new friends get better and better looking all the time.
I hope that everyone under the quilt is feeling better today.
We haven’t heard from Steve and Terri in a few days.
Oh and Terri, I want to let you in on a secret: certain words always trigger moderation and we don’t know why. The main word has rhymes with blues and has to do with the things we wear over socks.
9:39 am on April 11th, 2012
Good Morning All!
The Prof and I owed, so I wish we lived in that time only because income tax was not paid.
Speaking of Terri and Steve, where has Princess Sam been? I want to know if she splorts after eating chapstick.
All those under the quilt hope you are feeling better soon.
Enjoy the day!

Grump. Bee was correct about the woman being scorned thing. Although I shouldn’t be surprised.
Let’s see…..if Bernie and Bee were in a room together, I wonder who would be the smartest? The brain power would make the walls tremble, that’s for sure.
9:41 am on April 11th, 2012
Admin!…I wonder if he can declare Spencer as a Dependent…. heh!heh!
Noise!…I heard explosions coming from the bathroom this morning and it startled me until I realized it was her mother…snort!..She was finally coming clean. I don’t think she has the flu, I think she had a bad case of junk-food…heh!… Get this, as my friend was leaving for the busy-place her mother asked her to pick up some donuts tonight on her way home…grunt!…Some people never learn…wheeze!
9:47 am on April 11th, 2012
We haven’t heard from Jasper and Mollypop’s mom in a few days either.
Rose, I don’t think that Sam splorts. Sam is a Princess.
9:59 am on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie, we were surprised that you challenged Bee on an English literature quote.
Mom wants to claim all 4 of us, all 5 horses, and Buddy & T.C. as dependents. We are offended by that thinking, as everyone knows how independent we Sibes are! And don’t even get us started on kats.
10:09 am on April 11th, 2012
Chet, you have the right idea…best to bury the evidence.
So…SnowBella’s resident Moose was not heard from last night. I don’t think he liked begin the butt of all the moosely humor.
Don’t know where Terri is but wasn’t Steve off to Disney World?
Rio: Good to hear your Friend’s mother is feeling better enough to be requesting Zingers.
Maggie too. Good for you! You’ll be ready for that postponed Easter Dinner with Dawson and the family on Sunday.
Dear Melanie: How are you feeling this morning?
10:20 am on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie: Chet is the smartest.
10:27 am on April 11th, 2012
Good morning all –
BearSpirit – thanks for the reminder about Steve – we forgot he said he was going to Disney
Melanie is off doing errands this morning – she will be here later.
Mama says we owe all of you an apology – some of those puns last night were just painful.
(We thought they were moosetly pretty funny)
10:32 am on April 11th, 2012
Rio: I don’t mean to laugh at the misfortune of your friend’s mom, but boy, I’m bsuting a gut over here at your description.
T&G: I laughed out loud at every single moose pun!
10:34 am on April 11th, 2012
I was amoosed by the puns last night.
10:40 am on April 11th, 2012
Royals: No need to apologize for the moosely punch lines. We now have many new words to add to our Plunderer lexicon.
(whispering) Rose, that would be moosefortune. lol
Staff: Heh, heh…and they just keep on coming.
10:45 am on April 11th, 2012
Oh deer – what have we done?
11:02 am on April 11th, 2012
Punch lines…that’s it! Youse punched that moose right out of her hair.
11:09 am on April 11th, 2012
We don’t have much to say. We are moosely pun-challenged.
But we do know that our big brother Boris Badanov would have taken out that moose.
11:18 am on April 11th, 2012
BSD: I’m laughing here. Very clever!!!
11:32 am on April 11th, 2012
Rose: Bear wishes he could take the credit, but it belongs to either Bella or Golinka…one of their (many) clever shots in the verbal ping-pong match of moosely puns.
Howlers: We would have loved your big bro, Boris Badanov!
11:38 am on April 11th, 2012
We have to agree with Oley. We are not very good at the puns either. Brain just doesn’t work that way.
Did anyone else watch To Kill a Mockingbird last weekend?
11:44 am on April 11th, 2012
We didn’t watch it, B&M. But we saw it long ago and it is an excellent movie.
11:44 am on April 11th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: We didn’t watch the movie when it was on last week, but it continues to be one of our all time favorites…the book too.
Last night it was The Descendants. Nana says she liked it a lot, but didn’t “love it”, although George Clooney was great as the dad in a new and uncomfortable position as supervising parent.
11:53 am on April 11th, 2012
Mom is always saying she was born too late for a whole bunch of reasons…not just taxes.
Good Morning, Bear. How are you this morning?
Mom went into a convenience store this morning and saw all different flavors of Zingers. This is he first time she has ever seen them for sale. She didn’t buy any because she said they looked frightful.
11:56 am on April 11th, 2012
Fellow Sibers? Do you guys have a picture of Boris that could be put up on the blog?
All of us Sibers together could have taken care of the moose.
12:01 pm on April 11th, 2012
Siber-H: Heh, heh…no hard feelings…right?
O.Howlers: A photo of Boris would be great! (Didn’t I see him on the Iditarod Trail?)
12:11 pm on April 11th, 2012
Masquers: So Bear steals his jokes then, like most comedians. 🙂
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite movies, and has been a favorite book of mine since I read it in elementary school.
12:36 pm on April 11th, 2012
O.K. youse guys asked for it. Here is ole Boris (“Bup”) after a hard night attending a graduation party.

12:38 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rose, Let’s just say: like most comedians I take the credit for the cleverness of my writers.
12:39 pm on April 11th, 2012
and here is Boris in his most favorite of places where he spent almost every weekend: The Endless Mountains of Sullivan County. Notice, that particular Sibe didn’t need a leash!

12:40 pm on April 11th, 2012
Boris Badanov! That guy could take care of the moose for sure!
12:41 pm on April 11th, 2012
O.K. we promise this is the last one. We want to show you Boris with Misha Moonman who later became the ever-faithful love of Sasha’s life.

12:48 pm on April 11th, 2012
O.Howlers: Those are Excellent pictures! You can never show us too many photos of Boris, a Most Handsome member of the Nation Within. Heh, I see Misha Moonman has yet to grow into his ears.
1:11 pm on April 11th, 2012
Boris is very handsome.
1:17 pm on April 11th, 2012
Thanks for the photos, Fellow Sibers. Boris is one handsome dude!
I told mom, “See Boris doesn’t need a leash”. Mom is impressed with the off leash Boris, but not with me being off leash.
No hard feelings, Bear, but you deal with Natasha next time. Gah
1:17 pm on April 11th, 2012
Mom says thanks Bear and Bee. She wants you to know that Moonman was just Misha’s nickname, given by Pop. He had the biggest ears ever seen in the Nation Within. And his registered name was Michael’s Revenge. This was when Gorby was put under house arrest by Boris Yeltsin.
1:50 pm on April 11th, 2012
Great photos, OH, and I’m sure BB was a proud graduate of Wossamotta U.
And good going, Chet, on burying the evidence. That was probably Admin’s tax deduction for all those Hawaiian pants he bought off of Bernie.
Wookie
1:54 pm on April 11th, 2012
What beautiful Sibes. When we enlarged the photo was saw that mom’s sweatshirt has the name of a tavern on it! Must of been back in the beer drinking days!
2:20 pm on April 11th, 2012
OH: Boris and Misha are stunning sibes!!!
2:21 pm on April 11th, 2012
This page is taking a long time to refresh. Am I the only one having that problem?
2:25 pm on April 11th, 2012
Pine Tavern is a little restaurant/bar up in Sullivan County. When Mom & Pop used to camp up there all the time, they had lots of sweatshirts from places up there. Mom’s favorite was from a litle town named Shunk. That was before our time. We never get to go camping. We are the mistreated children.
Wookie, Boris even had a banner from Wattsamatta U.
2:27 pm on April 11th, 2012
Stover, I had the same refresh problem.
2:37 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rose — My dad was curious as to how you were doing with The Art of Fielding. He just finished it. It bogged down a bit in the middle (it is quite long) but it really picked up steam towards the end, and he thought the ending was just terrific. Wookie
2:54 pm on April 11th, 2012
B and Siber: I’m having problems as well.
Wookie: I have about 175 pages left to read. I am really liking this book. I moosely like off-beat novels (like the kind Jonathan Franzen writes), so I don’t feel as if it has been “slow” or bogged down. It taking me a while to read, because I just don’t have enough hours in the day. When I rode the Metro-North to work, I had 2 hours a day to read.
3:06 pm on April 11th, 2012
When pictures are posted on the blog, the refresh always takes longer. Today, it is our fault. oops.
3:16 pm on April 11th, 2012
Fellow Sibers, We asked for the pictures and are glad to have them.
I don’t think it is even the pictures this time because sometimes today it is refreshing rapidly and other times very slowly.
4:04 pm on April 11th, 2012
Siber-H: Natty’s reaction to the photo was unfortunate and unexpected. We thought she was on a mission (maybe we could convince her it was PhotoShopped)
And, it’s not only Natasha to contend with…Macy is spitting mad too.
4:49 pm on April 11th, 2012
Bear, I agree. Natasha’s reaction to the photo was unexpected. If the Borzoi isn’t on a mission, she needs to go a mission. (Leave the high heels at home Natasha).
Macy only made mild splorting noises and she will get over it quick because the Rangers are winning.
5:26 pm on April 11th, 2012
Hi everybody!
Today I just proved that I’m smarter than my Mom . We were on the back deck, playing fetch in the sunshine when a cloud drifted overhead and started to rain on us. Mom said, “Oh, it’s nothing. Look, the sun’s still shining.” But I knew better. I poked her with my paw a couple of times to convince her we’d better go inside.
After a while, she got up from the computer and discovered how wet the deck was! She had to admit that I was the smart one today – hahaha.
5:28 pm on April 11th, 2012
P.S. I love seeing all the photos from / of you guys!
5:35 pm on April 11th, 2012
Bear, we think you are giving Nattie some serious competition for world’s Best Undercover Spy. How did you manage to get that covert picture of Macy & Siber?
5:46 pm on April 11th, 2012
This is for my pals Rio and SiberH and other baseball fans that might be interested. There was a great article in Monday’s Washington Post on Jamie Moyer, the 49 year old pitcher for the Colorado Rockies. This is the link to the article:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/junkman-jamie-moyer-back-on-the-baseball-diamond-at-age-49/2012/04/08/gIQAzLSQ4S_story.html
Wookie
5:47 pm on April 11th, 2012
Oh – so Natasha overreacts?
Natasha needs go on mission?
Natasha needs leave high heels home?
Is ok. Natasha vill go. No, no – do not beg. Is true. Natasha vill take her heels and hats and go on mission.
Plunderers bevare!
5:49 pm on April 11th, 2012
O.Howlers: Alas, the photo was a fluke, a lucky shot. Bear will never be any competition for Vorld’s Best Spy – the Nefarious Borzoi. (gulp. I don’t want to upset her anymore than she already is)
Hi Terri!
5:53 pm on April 11th, 2012
Sigh. Too late. We have incurred the wrath of the Nefarious One.
5:57 pm on April 11th, 2012
Fellow Sibers??? Whose side are you guys on anyway? My own tribe is not believing me now.
6:04 pm on April 11th, 2012
Natasha, You are at your best when you are on a mission, but don’t be gone too long.
Hi Terri!
6:15 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wookie: If we weren’t interested in Rockies Baseball before, we are now. And, it is all because of Jamie Moyer. Such an interesting guy! He seemly does everything wrong and somehow it comes out right. An amusing tidbit from the link: “The Rockies don’t use a radar gun when Moyer pitches, they use a sundial.”
We here are looking forward to the season.
6:21 pm on April 11th, 2012
I’m here! I’m here! Mom and I mostly lurk during the week and make comments on the weekend. All is well in the middle of the mitten.
6:24 pm on April 11th, 2012
Thanks for the link and article Wookie. I am hoping for the best for Jamie Moyer and proud of the Rockies for having faith in him.
Rio, Timmy is pitching for the Giants tonight against the Rockies.
6:26 pm on April 11th, 2012
Natasha: From one who appreicates a nice pair of high heels to another, I think SiberH is sweeter on you than he admits.
6:58 pm on April 11th, 2012
Go Giants!
7:27 pm on April 11th, 2012
Hey, look! It’s Elliot stopping by to say hi.
Isn’t Awesome Dawson on her way today?
7:27 pm on April 11th, 2012
I’m here. Doing better. Not great yet. Hi Everyone!
Goodnight Everyone!
7:29 pm on April 11th, 2012
Hi Bella and Jasper in the Mitten!
7:32 pm on April 11th, 2012
And, Melanie too! Oh, oh too late…there she goes…off with Patsy climbing back under the quilt. See you in the am.
7:49 pm on April 11th, 2012
Hi everyone – coming out of the clay room for a minute to see what is happening here.
Mama was talking to someone today who asked her what she listened to while working on clay. She doesn’t like news, or most tv shows. She likes music in the background and wanted to share with you all one of her favorites.
(sorry Rio, Wookie and Siber – its not a baseball link – but you might like it anyway)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcpcv4zyVOI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
And now back to the Mud Room – may be back late tonight.
8:25 pm on April 11th, 2012
Friday!….Woooooo!…Its like Friday night for my friend…heh!heh!…She has a long long weekend ahead of us…snorkel!…Right now we are waiting for it to rain and watching our very first ever episode of Boardwalk Empire…snort!….Buscemi is alreay brilliant in my opinion…heh!
8:29 pm on April 11th, 2012
I really like that video and music! The landscape in it is the Colorado River Canyon country and Arches National Monument in southeastern Utah and Mesa Verde in southwestern Colorado.
8:50 pm on April 11th, 2012
Long weekend! Rio’s friend has the right idea!
8:53 pm on April 11th, 2012
Smokin!…Timmy is up smokin the pitch tonight….snort!… I really hope this will be a better game for the Rockies than some others I could mention…grunt!
SiberH! N’ Wookie!…I just heard Buster Posey has Shingles…wheeze!…That poor, poor guy. I was looking forward to seeing him again, but now who knows…sniff!…What an awful, painful thing….sniff!
8:58 pm on April 11th, 2012
Triple!…For Cargo! Finally!…snort!snort!…Now we are Smokin!…sniff!…Just a little..heh!
9:05 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rio, I was shocked to hear that about Posey. I didn’t know a person that young could get shingles. I , too, was looking forward to seeing him this season. I wonder about his career in baseball now. I like him. sniff
9:11 pm on April 11th, 2012
Young!…Oh yes. My friend used to be at a busy-place with a young gal who was really athletic, not that that has anything to do with getting Shingles, but she waa very healthy and got them right across her forehead and cheek…grunt!…It was awful. Just like her skin split wide open. Very very painful….gasp!…It took a really long time before she could come back to that busy-place…sniff!…But she did recover and went on to have a family…snort!…So Buster will be fine – eventually…poor guy…wuffle!
9:11 pm on April 11th, 2012
Royal Mum: The link was Wonderful! Beautiful Scenery, Dance and Music. Thank you for sharing.
Enjoy your fabulous long weekend Rio and Friend!
(looking forward to Boardwalk Empire here too…coming up soon in our queue)
It’s suppertime and I am off to you know where.
Good Day to Liz
G’Night to the rest of you – Bear
9:14 pm on April 11th, 2012
Pop had shingles a few years ago. On his face. It was painful, but not near as bad as others it seems.
We liked the video T&G posted. Did youse all see Johnny Depp in there?
9:16 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wookie!…I really want to read that article on Moyer …snort!…But I am too busy watching the game right now…heh!…Are you able to watch the Rockies Games?…sniff!…You could tell your Paw to purchase a Sports Package or sumthing this year…snort!…Its going to be OUR YEAR, don’t ya know?…heh!..And Look! I see a Pig Flying! Or is it a Moose?….Woooooo!
9:18 pm on April 11th, 2012
Bear says it’s time for bed, so off we go. Pop is still busy working; Mom and we huskies just got done barn chores. Farm work takes a lot of our energy.
Phillies are up 6-1! Go Phightin’s!
Goodnight to all.
9:25 pm on April 11th, 2012
SiberH!…It looks like Bill’s front row seats are empty tonight…grunt!…I sure wish he would give them to me when he isn’t using them…sneeze!…I caught a glimpse of him posing with his little grandchildren on facebookie today – don’t ask me how!…snort!…It was all her doing. I’m not allowed to go out there unsupervised…sniffle!
9:33 pm on April 11th, 2012
Line-guy!….Heh!….One of the old guys who sits around the edge of the field and retrieves foul balls saw a ball coming and he ran, and ran and ran to get out of its way …heh!… The ball dropped right behind him on his heals barely missing him. He was running right into the path of the dreaded ball!…chorkle!…I notice things like this for some reason…sniff!
9:39 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rio, I was wondering about Bill while watching the game tonight.
I guess the weather isn’t so good up there…maybe that kept him at home.
My dad doesn’t believe me when I tell him that I know someone that knows someone that is setting in that seat.
9:44 pm on April 11th, 2012
Timmy!…He is smoldering tonight not Smokin’…heh!heh!…Thank dawg, because the Rocks need a confidence booster…woooooo!…They are up by 5 ta nuthing right now over the Giants – against Timmy…snorkel!…I could say that all night long….heh!
9:46 pm on April 11th, 2012
We will say good night, too. Barb is working tomorrow. No offer yet, good, bad or in between. Pooh!
9:50 pm on April 11th, 2012
CRAP!…No offer!…grunt!…I really thought this was gonna be IT…sniff!…Sorry Barb. My friend says she would love to live in your house, but I don’t think she realizes there are Goats on the Grounds….gurgle!
9:54 pm on April 11th, 2012
Timmy!…snort!…He’s outta there! The fire is not there tonight….heh!…I have to remember this because that guy will figure it out and he will be better than ever next time and shear us like sheep….shudder!
9:56 pm on April 11th, 2012
CRAP again to the no offer. I hope it comes through and is a decent one.
I was starting to feel a bit sorry for Timmy, but not sorry enough.
10:03 pm on April 11th, 2012
Love the video, Golinka!
Still hoping for an offer, Barb. A good offer.
I hate to ask, but what is the score?
10:07 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie!…The score of the game I am watching is 6 ta 2 – Rockies are ahead….wooooo!weeee!…The Giants scored 2 runs right after Timmy left the mound…grunt!
10:14 pm on April 11th, 2012
OMG!…Its 6 ta 4 now and the tying run is maybe coming up…gulp!…Wait! They are changing the pitcher in the nick of time I hope…wheeze!
10:17 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie, The score is now 6 to 4–Rockies ahead by only 2 now.
For crying out loud!
10:19 pm on April 11th, 2012
WOLFIE!…The Giants have scored 6 in the 4th inning to tie this damned game up….grump!
10:21 pm on April 11th, 2012
SiberH! N Wookie!…Sob!Sob!Sob!…Wait! Anything can still happen…sniffle!sneeze!
10:25 pm on April 11th, 2012
sob, sob, sob I do not believe this.
Wolfie, The Giants are ahead by one run now.
10:37 pm on April 11th, 2012
Anything!…Can happen. Wolfie, Rocks are up 8 ta 7 now…woooo!…This is the best game of the season so far!…heh!…Todd Helton is on first base now!…chorkel!
10:39 pm on April 11th, 2012
NINE!…ta Seven…heh!heh!heh!…Crazy wild game so far!…Wooooo!
10:40 pm on April 11th, 2012
9 to 7 now—Rockies ahead.
10:46 pm on April 11th, 2012
Alice!…I wonder if Alice will be rooting for the Rockies again this year…sniffle!…I sure hope Not! Last year was a disaster…gulp!…How are the Twins doing so far? I have not checked their stats yet…grunt!
10:54 pm on April 11th, 2012
GO ROCKIES!!!
(Twins start out the season 0 and 4.)
Staff has been very busy. Well slightly busy, trying to clear out the room Dawson will use when she first gets here. She may move to the front room later depending on where the air conditioner gets located. But meanwhile we HAVE to get the middle room cleared out. It is amazing how much stuff she has collected in the past year and 1/2. It will not all go home in one trip that is for sure.
10:56 pm on April 11th, 2012
Carpola!…Damn those Twins…gah!
10:56 pm on April 11th, 2012
Oh, And she was telling her Dad that work is INSANE right now. She says she is tuckered out and can’t stay up to root for her Rockies.
10:58 pm on April 11th, 2012
Staff!…Rooting for the Rockies is one thing…grunt!…Alice and her hypnotic eyes are another all together…wheeze
11:11 pm on April 11th, 2012
This is a really good baseball game, but we can’t stay awake any longer. It is a long baseball game. If the Rockies can just keep this 4 run lead, all will be well.
Hi Alice
Night All…night Rio, night Alice
11:12 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rio: How many couch cushions have been harmed in the making of this Rockie’s game?
I’m not giving up on Barb getting an fair offer on Maggie’s house.
11:12 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie!…The score is now 12 ta 7….heh!…The Rockies are up by 1,2,3,4,5 Runs!….wooooooo!wheeee!
11:13 pm on April 11th, 2012
Does anyone else remember when Rio used to give slurpy pug licks to whoever was number 100 and turned us to the dark side of the blog?
Goodnight all. g’day Liz.
11:15 pm on April 11th, 2012
Rebecca!…This is not a cushion-biter game….heh!…We are ahead again, so all is well and no cushions are being harmed….sniff!…Yet!
11:17 pm on April 11th, 2012
OHHHHMYYYGAWWWD!,,,,SiberH!…I sure hope you saw this comedy of errors…heh!…Score 14 ta 7 after unbelievable mistakes by the Giants…Wheeze!WOOOOOOOO!Wheeze!
11:19 pm on April 11th, 2012
Wolfie!…The score is now 15 ta 7…heh!heh!heh!heh!wheeze!snort!…woooooo!
11:19 pm on April 11th, 2012
Bella – got your SDD – hmmmm – how about Saturday night? We would start planning tomorrow. But let’s NOT have Rio bring couch cushions…..
11:21 pm on April 11th, 2012
Update!…The score is now 16 ta 7….chorkel!….I think we get free Tacos!…heh!
11:21 pm on April 11th, 2012
Somewhere out there is a pug rooting for the not-the-Rockies team that is destroying every couch cushion in the house.
Howlers: I forgot to mention that I loved the photos of Mr. Badanov. His picture may not have been on the trail, but he had his own special checkpoint.
