The Brothers Marx and Mogordo

Trimmer – big bald guy, no gun, the gun in the hand of Freddie Dancer, still pointed at Suzie’s head – yanked open the broom closet door. Did he think it led to an upstairs? Did anybody? This was very confusing: there was no upstairs at 99 Mesquite Road. But no time for wondering what was on Trimmer’s mind, because things started happening fast. First came a surprise, although not a surprise to me, because I’d seen what happens when the broom closet door opened many times before.

What happens when the broom closet door opens? Things come flying out, that’s what happens. Bernie says it’s like the end of the Marx brothers stateroom scene. Don’t know the Marx brothers, although I have clear memories of the Mogordo brothers from Pedroia, real bad guys now wearing orange jump suits up at Central State. Just thinking about the Mogordo brothers gives me a funny feeling in my teeth, like they need to do a bit of biting. Funny the way that feeling came just as lots of action started up outside the broom closet at 99 Mesquite Road.

One gun, two gun, three gun, four. Tell me who we're rooting for? Oh. Did I say that out loud? OK. Well then, I say we are rooting for Chet. And Bernie. Oh and Suzie. We like Suzie. I bet she would be scratching behind Chet's ears if somebody didn't have a gun to her head.

    B. Stover is right… There were two guns….on August 12, when the Trouble first broke out. But maybe Admin stepped in and changed things. Admin does that every once in a while.

We don't care. We know Chet will take care of things. We just hope that burger on the grill isn't a charred crisp!

…or Fibber McGee's closet! Had a Rhodesian Ridgeback who collected items from around the house (and yard, and barn) and would stash in a closet if the closet door was open, as she hadn't mastered doorknobs quite yet.

Back in the day a Fibber McGee and Molly closet skit was always good for a chuckle.

But this is no laughing matter! Yikes!!

Yeah, there were two originally, and I thought that the people they were pointing at got reversed… Like, Freddie's started out being pointed at Bernie and the other guy had a gun to Susie's head, only then it changed…

I might just be unclear because we had a good walk this morning, Zoie and the kids and I. Tired, you know. And we did a lot of goofy playing with her stuffed goose that makes a noise like a little pig. She tried to get the cats to play, but they don't quite get her yet.

Admin has a short memory – that can cause problems. Maybe something will occur to him overnight. Meanwhile, anyone notice the new background art?

New background art is totally cool!

    Did Admin do that?

Yes– very cool! (In a hot, desert-y sort of way…)

Admin is glad you like the art – it's from the Thereby Hangs A Tail cover. Change was not made by Admin personally – you wouldn't want to see the results of that.

9:41 am on August 20th, 2009 doesn't have the cover yet…. but Thereby Hangs a Tail isn't due until January…

Darn good thing Chet has a blog!!

Zoie is back from daycare– cute wiggles when I picked her up. She likes to play pretty roughly with other dogs, uses her paws to jump on them and push or hold them down, with her tail wagging high in the air. Are you a paws player Chet?

Yes, there were two guns. As Diane points out, on the August 12 blog, Chet, you said:

"Suzie came out, two men beside her, a bald one and a white-haired one. I recognized them from the box canyon. The bald one had a gun to Suzie’s head. The white-haired one – Freddie Dancer – had a gun, too. His was pointed at Bernie."

I really do like the new background art. What I don't like, I admit it, are cliffhangers. At least in a novel you can keep turning pages and reading, but on a blog…. Oh well….I'm not really of the twitter, blog, e-book (even though I have a Kindle and love it) generation. Get the perps Chet and Bernie. Betty

Cliff-hangers are inevitable…. in any good mystery.

Just go with the flow B. Stover.
