The 4th C&B E-Short Story
As some of you know, there are 3 C&B e-shorts so far (99 cents!): A CAT WAS INVOLVED; THE IGGY CHRONICLES, VOLUME ONE; TAIL OF VENGEANCE. They always come out a month or so before the new C&B novel. But this will not be the case with e-short #4! No, sir! Because WOOF is coming April 28, and also because of the seasonal subject matter of #4, it will come out just before Thanksgiving.
So:
April 28: WOOF (1st in a new middle-grade series)
Bastille Day: SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY (the new C&B)
Before Thanksgiving: C&B Xmas short story.
Memorize this! It will be on the test!

Good morning, everyone! Wowser, OFA has had his nose to the grindstone working his paws to the bone…WOOF, SAS and an E-Story! We are so excited we are all dancing around mom’s feet ๐
AJ, thank you for the first installment of the race. Bluecat said it “SCARY”! We hope the pee-new- moan-ia is gont but let the Pixie take care of you and you get healthy.
Have a far-reaching Friday.
8:59 am on March 27th, 2015
Morning all. Hope BooBear is feeling better and that Linus will eat.
We loved the first installation of Snowhook’s Iditarod 2015. But we wonder if AJ would consider a slightly safer lifestyle at some point. Maybe a job getting shot out of a cannon?
9:16 am on March 27th, 2015
T&G, Lion tamer? Alligator wrestler?
10:03 am on March 27th, 2015
Good morning all. Barb is finally staying away from that work place. Errands to run, groceries to buy. All that fun stuff.
Freezing cold here, but just 2 more unpleasant days and we will have spring time back again.
We are excited about all the new reading material coming up.
10:09 am on March 27th, 2015
Good morning! Spencer, we are ready for our test! WOOF, then SAS, then another eShort! Got it! And we cannot wait. Oh no we cannot!
AJ, Thanks for the first installment. We here had no idea you fell thru the ice on the very day after you left Nenana! The trouble with the Iditarod is that it is not a spectator sport. The plus side of the Iditarod is that it is not a spectator sport.
One question: what in the world is roofied?
10:12 am on March 27th, 2015
HOH – oooo, that gives us an idea for the next batch of Snowhook puppies – Lion, Tiger, Gator, Bear, and any other scary critters. Think of the braggi g rights AJ would have.
10:13 am on March 27th, 2015
Howlers – roofied=drugged.
10:15 am on March 27th, 2015
Roofies are used to incapacitate a person (usually a girl) for you know what. Rahypnal is put in a drink and the girl basically is completely out of it and her date can take advantage of her.
10:16 am on March 27th, 2015
BTW, scary stuff out there on the ice!
10:18 am on March 27th, 2015
{gasp!} Did Bellie take advantage of the Giant????
10:33 am on March 27th, 2015
Rio, who is having a summer wedding that is special to you? Any hints?
10:37 am on March 27th, 2015
An Xmas short story will be fun.
Good morning all.
11:05 am on March 27th, 2015
I am feeling better and Mom is giving me extra pets and loving (as she should). Linus ate very little last night and only through a dropper. He did not get up on his own this morning. His urine is a very deep yellow with an orange hint. V-E-T said that indicates liver problem. I feel very sad for him and for Mom because he is a favorite around here. When the neighbors granddaughters would come over to visit, he would follow them around like a dog. She would call him to follow her down the hall, and off he went.
And why does everyone think I am a boy?!! I am very much a pretty little rotund girl kitty (when my mouth is normal, that is).
Mom is confused. She thought Neanderthals predated humans, that it was a evolution thing. How could they mix?
11:19 am on March 27th, 2015
I am on my own this morning preparing for OFA’s upcoming test.
BSD is still back on the scary ice with OFM.
BooBear’s Mom: I thought the same about Neanderthals, but what do we know.
Very sorry to hear Linus is not improving as everyone had hoped.
11:46 am on March 27th, 2015
Aww Boo – sorry to hear that Linus isn’t bouncing back. Did we call you a he? We know you are a sweet little girl, but our paws might have slipped on the keyboard.
Callie is headed to the v e t today. She is a very active and healthy 11 years old, but suddenly she doesn’t seem to be hearing us. We are hoping it is just ear wax – it has been in the past.
12:03 pm on March 27th, 2015
HOH paws are crossed for our friends. Linus, BooBear and Callie. And also the roofied giant. T&G and B&M&L, we are appaled that y’all know what a roofie is. Ha ha Ha ha ha.
12:11 pm on March 27th, 2015
Boo, we here were completely lost in that neanderthal discussion from yesterday. We thought the same as you: that they were just the early form of humans.
Poor Linus. If his liver is bad, wouldn’t that have shown up in the tests at the v-e-t?
Callie! We huskies are all deaf, unless something is said worth hearing, like “dinner”, “treats”, “ride”, “walk”. We are hoping your problem is one of selective hearing, like ours.
Last night we had horribly loud thunder booms and lots of lightening. Tomorrow morning, we may have snow. Such is Spring.
12:19 pm on March 27th, 2015
The interbreeding of Neanderthals and humans has been proven through DNA testing. Here’s a link to an article:’
http://www.livescience.com/48399-when-neanderthals-humans-first-interbred.html
12:27 pm on March 27th, 2015
Thank you, Bee. There is so much to learn on this here blog.
12:35 pm on March 27th, 2015
HOH – Mama says she only knew about roofies cuz of TV shows like CSI and NCIS
Otherwise she is totally innocent.
12:48 pm on March 27th, 2015
AJ: Thanks for the scary details!
It is a good thing that we don’t know all that is happening on the trail while the race is on. We are wrecks enough as it is.
Linus: Awwwww. Strongest prayers being sent your way.
OFA: A test? I’m in!
1:03 pm on March 27th, 2015
Just a quick update to restore Rebecca’s honor. I am not the easiest patient to care for. Therefore she tricked me a little to get me to sleep. My joking about roofy was of course in poor taste…
1:19 pm on March 27th, 2015
Now AJ is making me laugh. (The joke wasn’t in poor taste; it was funny.)
Men are never easy patients are they?
1:23 pm on March 27th, 2015
Ear Wax…Dad has ear wax too. The person who gives him his eye drops tried to tell us it was kidney problems causing his sudden loss of hearing. (She is a happy doom and gloomer) But the other nurse said ear wax and we used ear was remover drops and he could hear better immediately…
Linus we are praying for you.
I knew about roofies too. Read about them in books and, unfortunately, the newspaper. Yuck.
1:32 pm on March 27th, 2015
There was an episode of Castle that included roofies. A woman had given a guy a roofy and he said, “Why bother? All she had to do was ask.) (I thought it was funny.)
1:33 pm on March 27th, 2015
Bee, thank you for the link last night. I meant to thank you last night, but sometimes my internet just stops working. Sometimes my telephone just doesn’t work. It seems to happen when it is wet, wet, wet outside. We still have feet of snow on the ground, and now it is either raining or hailing. Lots of wet. If I am absent for a day or two, do not worry. Someday the snow will melt, the April Showers will be done, and mud season will be over.
1:42 pm on March 27th, 2015
A.J. we didn’t think your joke was in poor taste. We also thought it was funny. Now Barb says she has never personally experienced a roofie, but a gal has to keep up with things. Just in case she ever goes on another date, which is highly unlikely.
1:54 pm on March 27th, 2015
Aww AJ – it was a joke among friends. No worries.
1:56 pm on March 27th, 2015
AJ in poor taste? Nah…..I think not! Sleep big guy, sleep.
1:56 pm on March 27th, 2015
Spence is joking about the test because it is one we can all pass. I am writing down the titles and dates just in case. A Christmas e-short story will be fun.
AJ, I am glad you are feeling better. Thank you for the first race installment. It reads like a page-turner.
BooBear, Humans and Neanderthals could mate the same way a wolf and a Standard Poodle can mate.
I am guilty of thinking some of you kats on the blog were boys when it turns out you are girls.
Prayers for Linus. Hugs for your mom.
2:53 pm on March 27th, 2015
Wait…boys, girls, cats, dogs, wolves, Neanderthals, humans????
We are so confused, except that our favorite musher and his BDHW are so special.
3:00 pm on March 27th, 2015
We Here think AJ should Write a Book about his Adventures on the Trail!
SiberMom: You may be confident of passing OFA’s Test but, as a Member of the Nation Within, I am not.
There are 3 Questions…I can only remember 2.
3:35 pm on March 27th, 2015
Test! How about this from down memory lane.
http://chetthedog.wpengine.com/page/3?s=Quiz&x=0&y=0
3:42 pm on March 27th, 2015
I need to explain who Li’l Lexi is. Her girl is Megan who is 13 years old. Lexi stayed with until Megan was 15.
3:53 pm on March 27th, 2015
MPM – thanks for another wonderful trip down memory lane. Some of the posts were even before our memory, so we got to hear from Lexi who was gone when we first joined in.
And there were posts from Mama’s beloved friend that she misses so much. There were a few sniffles about that.
We just played Tennessee Bird Walk for the Storyteller who had never heard of it. It is still pretty funny.
4:49 pm on March 27th, 2015
Bear, I will SDD you the answers to the test if there ever is a test.
5:02 pm on March 27th, 2015
That was fun, MPLLM. The comments in pink at the bottom of Pop Quiz Dessert are good. Did anyone see those?
I remember Little Lexie. Wasn’t she a Maltese? Wonder if Megan is in college now.
5:23 pm on March 27th, 2015
T&G, hadn’t heard of the Tn birdwalk? Gosh mom even heard of it in CA. Her 1st hubby had a beard like that guy. Mom (on the other paw) was never so good looking as the lady (she has had a bad hair life).
5:35 pm on March 27th, 2015
Where did you see the Tennessee Birdwalk? We have never heard of it.
In one post we asked Bee what a Red Queen Arbitration was. hahaha
5:48 pm on March 27th, 2015
OK B&M&L, we’ll bite. Other than a Phillipa Gregory novel, mom will plead
s t u p i d. Barb, we now ask you, what is it?
TN Bird Walk we heard on one of the LA radio stations in the early 70’s and thought it was just another silly song like many fron the Grand Ole Opry.
5:51 pm on March 27th, 2015
Admin said the quiz would be subject to Arbitration of the Red Queen variety. Evidently it refers to off with their heads, from Alice in Wonder Land.
6:14 pm on March 27th, 2015
I didn’t mean to give a link with four more links. It was supposed to be the pop quiz and tomorrow it would be the dessert post.
It was the copy-and-paste Flying Fickle Finger of Fate!
6:17 pm on March 27th, 2015
OMD, the flying fickle finger of fate? That one we know (heh, heh)) We will now go and study for the pop quiz.
What was the subject? are we reading every other post?
6:21 pm on March 27th, 2015
Did Roger Miller write the Tn Birdwalk? He is one of our all-time favorites, but not familiar with that one.
6:27 pm on March 27th, 2015
Tell Barb that Buck Owens wrote the TN Birdwalk. (But, yeah, it is a kind of Roger Miller kind of tune like”You Can’t Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd”.)
6:30 pm on March 27th, 2015
Barb – we did see the pink answers at the bottom of that quiz. Apparently that was the date in history when the Official Plunderer Motto of “Plunder On!” was born.
And to answer your other question, we don’t think Roger Miller had a hand in this one –
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7X43Cfowz4
7:01 pm on March 27th, 2015
No hand in this one either…but funnyhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=K16fG1sDagU
7:03 pm on March 27th, 2015
Never mind, can’t get it to post. It was “The Mississippi Squirrel Revival” by Ray Stevens, anothe writer/performer of “off the wall” songs.
Okay, going to clean the kitchen. BBL
7:11 pm on March 27th, 2015
Royal Mum: DogOnIt. I didn’t see any Pink Answers.
7:12 pm on March 27th, 2015
Since when did that Damn Pixie have honor? This is news to me. She has my sparkles and a good portion of my bed, but honor? I don’t buy it.
7:56 pm on March 27th, 2015
Oh Gosh–late catching up again and praying my very most intense prayers for dear Linus and for Boobear’s mouth.
8:15 pm on March 27th, 2015
Masquers: Yes, I do still have Mr. Big the 24-pound cat. I will take him to an adoption clinic tomorrow. I will miss him a lot if he gets adopted but if he finds a furever home, that is all that matters. Sadie will not miss him as Mr. Big is now possessive and jealous of the dog and Sadie is unhappy–and a wee bit fearful.
I also have a blind, male cat who needs some TLC for a good long while. I was able to pet him yesterday (day 5) and played with him 10-minutes with one of those wand toys that lights up and makes a sound. However, for the most part he is an “under the bed” kind of cat. I hope to make a breakthrough one of these days.
8:19 pm on March 27th, 2015
B. Stover–I’ve been vicariously following the ceremonies surrounding King Richard III’s cortege and reburial this week via my local newspaper. Weds they had an interview with one of the armored escorts of the king’s body–an American from Petaluma, CA(!)
If anyone’s interested, here’s a link:

Big-hearted CHobbit, God bless you.
8:37 pm on March 27th, 2015
Chirp chirp!
It was a lovely spring day here so I decided to take the dogs for walkies. First up was Belle, no incidents. Then I came back for Annie and Macy. Immediately, Macy slipped her collar and was off, then Belle pushed past me and was out the door after Macy. Poor Annie was waiting politely, all leashed up, so off we went to try to persuade the other two to come home. After about twenty minutes and the help of some neighbors the great round up was over. THIS is why walkies don’t happen very often around here.
Now the blasted sun is still up and I am ready for bed. Work starts at 7 a.m. tomorrow but is only 6 hours, thank dog. Later, Rick’s brothers and sisters are getting together to sort through the old family pictures and they want me to come, so I guess I will.
8:57 pm on March 27th, 2015
ML, What an adventure! Hope you have a great day tomorrow. At least work is only 6 hours. That might be hard going thru the pictures. We will be thinking about you. Nighty night.
9:00 pm on March 27th, 2015
DianeC., Thanks for the link to the article. I ended up reading all the articles and watching the videos.
9:17 pm on March 27th, 2015
Hobbit, you are too good and we know those 4 leggers appreciate it (somehow).
Diane, thank you for very interesting info. Wish someone here had enough chutzpah to have taken the course.
ML, the HOH is cracking up at the walkies and asking mom what if ML had bigger dogs. See ML, there is a bright side to your walk adventure!
Nighty night,all.
9:18 pm on March 27th, 2015
ML, Macy should have a harness.
9:31 pm on March 27th, 2015
Harness!…Pugs, like me and Beau, have to have harnesses or we can easily slip out of the neck-thing…heh!…Our heads are smaller than our necks…snort!
Adventure!…I just finished reading what the Giant wrote last night after I had gone to my warm soft bed…chuffle!…How cold I now feel….Yeeep!….Slipping into freezing water! How did he get warm and dry again?…gah!…Unbelievable! No wonder he has pnuemonia…gasp!wheeze!
9:38 pm on March 27th, 2015
And to think he still had a whole race ahead of him! Yeep.
9:43 pm on March 27th, 2015
Rio, That is a very good question. How did AJ get warm and dry? It was so cold there.
ML, A harness is a very good idea for Macy. In the beginning, I used to step behind Siber-H whenever he tried pulling out of his collar while walking. That method worked on him and broke him of it, but I don’t think it would work with a little dog.
9:54 pm on March 27th, 2015
ML – It will be hard, but it will also be good. Tears can be the path to laughing.
Macy – bad doggie! Yup, a harness for you my lady. (Gilly has to wear one in public too. She is a little too wild and crazy to trust)
Callie got a good report from the v e t. She does have considerable, age-related hearing loss, but her ears are healthy. The v e t loves to have her come see him, she is such a sweet, gentle girl. And he said she is in grand shape.
It has been a very full day that started at dawn. So, we are calling it a night.
G’night, family. Sweet dreams
10:38 pm on March 27th, 2015
Day!….My friend had a day from Hell. As if that is new…heh!heh!…But this day started with a trip to a far-away hotel conference room where 50+ other IT folks were gathered for a seminar on how to navigate change…sniff!…Let me just say her daily work load has quadrupled in the last 3 months, add in re-orgs and new managers and angry freakin’ people who have been “acquired” by her so-called company…heh!…Now they have this seminar on “change” and how to deal…grunt!…One exercise involved people being given a Card. This card had a letter or a number on it…sniff!…All the Letter people were taken out of the room, leaving the Number people sitting around at their tables. The Number people, of which my friend was one, were given “Rules” to the “Game”…heh!…Do not leave your seat. Do not give anyone your Card. If you do either of these you will lose the $1.00 you gave to the discussion leaders. Sit in your seat and DO NOT move till the Game is over …wheeze!…They gathered one dollar bills from everyone before this “game” started and before they took the Letter People out of the room..sneeze!
Then!…After several minutes of Nothing…the Letter People came back into the room and the appointed โCEOโ read a document. All of the Letter People were standing together at the front of the room before the seated Number People…gurgle!… He read that he was the CEO and he was directing the Number People to move to other tables…he said numbered people with 1-5 should go there and 6- 10 peoples go to another table… and so on…sniff!…Once he finished reading his directive NOT ONE of the Number persons moved. Because their Rulese were to Not Move from their seats till the game was over…heh!heh!
Chaos!….Ensued. Lettered people trying to get Numbered people to move….chorkel!…โWhat’s init for us?โ the numbered people would ask….snort!…The Lettered people begged and moaned and the worker-bee number people hardly moved…. More money was offered but it was too late. No one was motivated to move…snort!…Well a few moved. My friend moved because the Hot Shot who is her boss said โIt would be in her best interest to moveโ…and then after she moved the rest of the group at her table moved and anther table moved but that was it!…grunt!…It was a stand-off and bullying pursued. No one else really moved.. The moral of the story is what exactly?….guffle!…The big gap between Management and Worker Bees? Hell my friend already knows the gap and very well, thank you very much…snort!…What a wasteful day during a very busy time at the busy-place….groan!
OH!…Then after all the discussion about The Game they wanted those guys to write down one thought on what had happened…snort!….My friend wrote, “Rules are made to be broken.”…heh!heh!…Because apparently the win-win was to get all the worker-bees to change their seats even after being strictly told NOT TO….grunt!…Corporate America at it’s best folks. Gives me the heebie-jeebies!…yeeeep!
11:01 pm on March 27th, 2015
In my time at a Busy Place we too had some of these gatherings….often referred to as “Team Building”. But not one compared to this. Rio’s friend did make it through a day from hell! Did they at least have a good lunch?
11:03 pm on March 27th, 2015
Rio, Your friend needs to forget this day ever happened. I know, easier said than done. It was a pointless exercise conducted by idiots.
Your friend should be extra good to herself this weekend and do some fun things.
11:11 pm on March 27th, 2015
Nana is chuckling. She says the scenario Rio just described sounds like a “Normal Day” at the Busy Place, especially during a Corporate Take-over.
She is so very, very glad to be done with all the Corporate Madness.
11:15 pm on March 27th, 2015
Food?!…NO NONE!…Notta…grunt!…Plus, it was Freezing in the room. Even the HOT-Shot had his coat on…grunt!…Misery. Pure Misery…sniff!…Makes me so glad I am a farty-ass Pug.
11:19 pm on March 27th, 2015
Rio: Since I’ve retired, I advise everyone to quit their jobs. Especially high stress jobs managed by cruel or unknowledgeable people. I am very proud of your friend for using the “Rules are made to be broken” quote. She will become an activist next, heh!
Hey! Did every one get their dollars back?
11:39 pm on March 27th, 2015
Dawson!…I am told there was one very smug group who would not budge…heh!…They all got their dollars back right off the bat! At one point in the discussion afterwards, my friend was tempted to speak up and say, “Hey, I moved (changed) and still have not gotten my dollar back. But those guys who DID NOT CHANGE got their dollar back right away. What does that say to all of us?”….But she was so fed up with the hypocrisy she didn’t even feel the need to make the point….grumble!
11:44 pm on March 27th, 2015
I remember one meeting when they were changing stuff at HRBlock. (I can say it now that I don’t work there) They were perturbed that some of the old time employee’s were resistant to change. They had all these ‘games’ about adjusting to change.
When they asked me about change I said that they did the same thing every year. They were quite indignant that things were the same every year. “What, they asked was the same?”
My answer was “Every year you change things.”
I don’t know why they thought it was so special THAT year.
11:46 pm on March 27th, 2015
Activist!…I think my friend is going to be a “Quitter” and that is really not her nature…sniff!…She has had it. And UP TO HERE…grunt!…I am sad for her. Because she is sad. She is very sad indeed….sniff!
11:58 pm on March 27th, 2015
Goodnight!…I am home and I am going up to my warm soft bed where all my baseball toys are in all the right places…snort!
1:19 am on March 28th, 2015
Heaven help me, I can’t help loving Rio and his Friend. I’ve wrapped them in the Quilt and there they shall stay for the night. Tenzing is bringing snacks in case Rio wakes up hungry in the middle of the night.
