Thanksgiving …

… comes up from time to time in the Chet and Bernie series. Here, from Dog On It, is one of the earliest references:

Albie Rose lived in the biggest house I’d ever seen, more like a palace, surrounded by high walls. A guy with big shoulders and a gun on his hip led us across vast green lawns to a huge swimming pool. On a deck chair by the pool lay a fat old man in a tiny bathing suit. His skin was oiled and deeply tanned, just about the color and texture of a turkey Leda had left too long in the oven one Thanksgiving. I tried not to look.

    Greetings!

This passage always makes me laugh out loud when I read it!

    Make it a good day!

I laugh at Chet’s trying “not to look.”

    Good day to all.

We blurred to Rio’s kitchen at the crack of dark today so we can help Friend prepare the Thanksgiving feast. We disguised Wyatt as Pancho and disguised Wee Nigel as a cardboard cutout of Lefty. Beau won’t even notice we’re not there so mums the yark.

Wose!! Our calendar came today. Beautiful, as always. But what a surprise to see two of my brothers on the February page. That is Sunny (the yellow one) and Little Linus (the not so little one). We love all the pictures! Thank you again for doing a fantastic job!

BooBear: I am happy to know that your calendar arrived! I love that picture of Sunny and Little Linus! I was unable to put their names on their photo without messing up the integrity of the photo. I did not want you to think I did it on purpose.

Wose: I haven’t checked my mail in a couple of days. Now I am inspired to see if my copy of your calendar has arrived.

It is supposed to snow today and Friday but have a break on Thanksgiving. I am feeling quite lazy today and I feel guilty about it because I know that Friend is cooking up a storm. I also feel guilty because my floors are in need of vacuuming and my kitchen in need of cleaning and straightening.

Maybe if I took a nap, I would feel more motivated. Let’s find out!

As part of our master plan, we decided to blur Howie to Rio’s to help Friend make a feast. Despite Wee Nigel’s suggestion, we didn’t opt to get the proper blurrers’ permit for Howie…in conclusion, WATP would you be willing to lace up your white shoes? Until we hear from you, we checked into Mother Jail for a long weekend.

There was a lot of cooking going on here also. Yesterday I made artisan olive bread and Mr.Fireslippers made his cranberry sauce. It is more like a cranberry chutney. Very good! He had to make it Tuesday because I told him he could not get in my way today.
Today it was my mother’s sausage and rice dressing, Pumpkin (really Butternut squash) pie and lots of gravy starter. I really like Turkey gravy so I am ready!
I wanted to bake a Turkey leg but couldn’t find any. The only thing at the stores was Turkey breasts shot full of additives. But I have a quilting friend who owns a little store in Arthur North Dakota and she said she could order Turkey thighs but I would have to order the whole 5# box. DONE!
And she even delivered it to me! I simmered one of the 4 thighs to use in the gravy starter. YUM
    I love turkey leftovers!
