Thanks, Everybody!

… for all the great female dog names suggestions yesterday. The character appears part way through the new book we’re working on (Spence and PA) and at first has no name, but has to get one very soon.

(As for today’s tag, LeAnne is the name of the leading human character in the new book.)

Good morning, everyone! LeAnne? LeAnne? We don’t need no stinking LeAnne.
Saturday is sunny. Here our hearts go out to the north/northeast residents.
    Have a special Saturday.

Today is Loulou’s play group but we’re staying home. The temp is below zero, not a big deal. It’s the wind chill that’s scary. Twenty-five to thirty degrees below zero wind chill. There are many car accidents where people are stuck in these temps. We will stay cozy warm inside and also walk around the Hyatt hotel next door.

we will probably get in trouble for saying this but –
it seems that most of the main characters in the Chet and Bernie books have straight, to the point, pedestrian names. Chet, pure and simple, Bernie, Suzie, Charlie, LeAnne. It is the side characters who tend to get the fun names, the names that give you more of a picture; think Nixon Panero, Disco and Crash, Adelina Borghese(sp?). Even Leda-not a common name and one that is sure to conjure and image. And what other kind of person could a “Malcolm” be?
Just our two cents on the matter.

Spence and PA: I’m looking forward to the new book with great curiosity.

Tupper’s Mama: I like your take on the names of the Chet and Bernie series.

    BearSpiritDog: Yup. Northern route.

I’m off soon to decorate the hall for tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day

Hoping that this is not a faux paw, but how about the name of Apache or Comanche for the warrior girl dog? The names definitely bring warrior to mind and I think they could be either sex type names. SQ, that’s okay…I know you are slapping your forehead and saying “I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!!”

And woohoo! Someone posted last night that the race will be starting in Willow! That is wonderful because Mom wouldn’t have been able to get to Fairbanks!

She is already getting pre-vacation giggles! Rio, was your friend able to work out the trip north to Alaska?

I vote “yes” on all the rules for the photo contest! Question is when is the deadline?

  20. dawson
    3:53 pm on February 13th, 2016

BooBear: Yes, I saw that posting. Me too! I am glad the Iditarod is starting in Willow because it is closer to our team and I do not have time to travel to Fairbanks.

    Over the Moon!
I keep forgetting to say that I received OTAS’s photograph of the moon (from the auction) and it is stunning. Thanks a gazillion! I have to find a frame for it.

I am printing off my itinerary and hotel reservations for the Alaska trip as we speak. I will travel down to Vancouver on February 29 and stay overnight then fly to Seattle and Anchorage on March 1st. I’ll do the whole thing in reverse one week later.

I’m back, ‘afternoon everyone. I went over to spend last evening with Lily and Ben while Kelly and Chad were downtown. Baye went to NYC with friends, so I went over to hang with the kids. Only thing was, Lily went out to dinner with friends and Ben had a friend over to play, so there wasn’t a lot of interaction.

I find it very frustrating at their house because everything is so high tech. Somehow while trying to make a cup of coffee I switched their machine from English to German! Yes, it will give you directions in 5 languages! Lily had to call tech support to get it back to English! LMAO!

And forget trying to operate their tvs. I just have Ben turn one on and hand me the proper remote. We watched The Martian last night. I highly recommend it for the visual effects.

I like the name Tundra a lot, but it sounds more like a sled dog name to me, rather than military. There were many good suggestions.

Barb, Maggie and Lucy: Laughing…so did you have a German cup of coffee?

  24. Herd of Hounds
    4:31 pm on February 13th, 2016

BArb, wish we knew that coffee can be made in German. Some of the peeps’ friends from the hotel stay in Sept. are German (Bavarian) and stopped by the other day to see the house progress and have coffee. It would have been a hoot.
MArtha, if you want it enough, it will happen.

Barb – that house sounds downright scary.

Ja, der kaffee machen! In Deutsch it told me to spulen (rinse). It was very confusing! Their machen is actually a coffee and espresso machine. You feel like you are at Starbucks! Of course, I am not a fan of Starbucks and their over priced coffee! I am sure they are having a chuckle about techno challenged MiMi! I like my life in the slower lane.

Howlers, How close are you to that horrific 50 car pile-up?

Rio, and ALR, here you go:

    1/2 cup mayo
    2 Tbl. vinegar
    1/3 cup sugar ( I use a little less)
1/4 cup whole milk (or half and half)
    2 Tbl. poppy seeds

Place in jar, cover and shake until blended. Keeps several days in fridge.

BML, that pileup is not very far from us. It was on rt. 78, which is renowned for bad accidents in this snowy, blowing, icy weather. A few years ago, on Valentines Day, hundreds of people got stranded in snowdrifts on that road. And in those winter temps, they were stranded for days.

Grizz and I braved the cold outdoors to go to the cinema. We saw the documentary, “Hitchcock/Truffaut.” We here are big Hitchcock fans. We both enjoyed the film very much. Now I feel like I want to binge watch his films. We also had our Valentine’s Day dinner today, as Grizz has 3 on-line students tomorrow.

We are excited for those of youse lucky enough to be going to Alaska. I am wondering if anyone has a TUMI bag large enough for a stowaway. I am small and meek, I won’t wiggle too much, I’ll go to the bathroom before the flight, and I will bring snacks…

Report! I can report that Joe left the starting line of his third and final qualifier this afternoon. It was confirmed on Thursday night that the Goose Bay race would start this weekend. Only nine teams entered. Because of ice, poor race conditions the starting place was changed this morning at the mushers meeting and the start time delayed. The race doesn’t have a tracker so the Giant and that Damn Pixie are estimating the team’s finish time to be tomorrow mid-afternoon. This has been Belle Starr reporting from atop Ole Doc.
