Thanks!

“What a party!” says Spence.

“How does Rio do that sleeping sitting up thing?” says Admin.

“Don’t know – but it would come in handy.”

“Get enough steak?”

“Tasty or what?”

Sure was. And now I’ve got a nice T-bone buried and I know just where! Something to look forward to and that’s something I always look forward to, meaning having something to look forward to. Kind of confusing but it makes me feel tip-top.

Good morning, Chet, Spence, Admin, and Bear. Glad you’re feeling tip-top, Chet. Us too!

    Good Morning everybody.

I missed the party of the year, sounds like. And for a long boring meeting with some stuffed shirts. Did Mollypop bring some pictures of Rio doing tricks? Do gummi worms stain permanent? Did anyone fly me over a doggie bag of H. Nationals?

    Congratulations to Kirby’s Gamecocks!

Hey! T.C. is at the top of our page! woo-hoo! Thats the kat we love.

Dawson, we missed the party too…because Mom was at a very long, boring, frustrating meeting with a bunch of weasels. We are surprised that weasels attend parties.

Sorry I missed the big bash! Sounds like a splendid time was had by all!

Chet: Sure glad you got a nice treasure out of the steak!

Good morning! What a party we had. Too bad some Plunderers had to miss it for the likes of stuffed shirts and weasels. We should put those guys in a meeting room together.

Chet, glad you got a steak to bury. The Spencer steaks were excellent. Barb just ordered some stuff from Omaha Steaks. Did any of you every get steaks from them?

The fires out west are scary. Hope Siber is ok. Wish rains would start, but think it might be a couple of weeks early for the monsoons.

Did anyone see that our ex-governor got 17 guilty verdicts out of 21? It is amost embarrising to be from Illinois! He could get from 5-305 years when he is sentenced Aug.1st. Bet it will be more like 5-10 yrs.

Dog, the Pack is snoozing and snoring . . .

They haven’t moved since breakfast. I’ll have to read about what they got up to after I left!

OleyHowlers: I read the article. The foam they wrote about is very good. I was talking to our Fire Chief here in town (his name is Bernie!) and he told me about it.

They use it here to save building that are near the fires. I believe that house fires last longer than the wild fires going through the desert areas. More to burn in a house fire and in the desert the fire has to keep finding fuel. I could be wrong though.

Anyhoo, the Fire Department (all volunteer) will use the foam on barns and houses near the fire. It saves them.

Here’s something about Los Alamos from Wildfire Today.

“Tucker said that since the Cerro Grande of 2000, a great deal of vegetation management has been conducted in Los Alamos to make the structures and facilities more fire resistant than 10 years ago when over 280 homes were destroyed or damaged and 40 Los Alamos National Laboratory structures burned. The Chief said the city is now qualified as a “Firewise Community”, which is a remarkable change from 10 years earlier when the structures were extremely vulnerable to wildfire.

Tucker said the numerous barrels of stored radioactive waste at the Laboratory are surrounded by bare mineral soil or asphalt and there little chance that the fire could impinge on the barrels. The operations manager of the Lab said that if a wildfire does approach the radioactive materials they have equipment on site that will cover it with foam, further protecting it from fire.”

Mollypop, Yes we have had a number of officials spending time breaking rocks in the hot sun, or at least wearing orange jumpsuits, as they sit in their air conditioned suites.

That vote early and often saying goes back to the Senior Mayor Daley days, and is probably true, unfortunately.

I have no idea OleyHowlers, they SAY it’s safe. I want to believe them.

I remember growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. In the one near us, where my brother had a girlfriend, the mob’s middle class had houses. Being a romantic, my brother stole out of the house late at night to cast stones at her window so he could recite Shakespeare.

He climbed a tree, scared to death, when her father came out with a shotgun.

There was also a barn near the highway where local lore had it that the mob would leave dead bodies.

Yup, that was growing up in the Chicago suburbs!

Bear, Barb just ordered a Value Combo, which had 2 filets, 2 top sirloins, 4 chicken breasts. 4 gourmet franks, 4 stuffed potatoes, and 8 steak burgers. It was $40 plus $15 for shipping.
Didn’t seem too bad if the stuff is good.

Oley, We like that same guy. Barb has told this story before, but probably before you came to our blog.
She is not a politico, but she saw Jack Franks, a state representavive, at a picnic. He suggested she go to this little town, Marengo, IL. to listen to a new politician who was running for Senator. No one had heard of him, but she was curious, so she went. Of course it was our POTUS to be. There were probably only 100 people there and Dick Durbin intorduced him. Barb was awestruck. She actually got to shake hands and talk to him. He was like a rock star. Barb came away from that meeting saying that guy is going to run for Pres. in 2012 (Ok, so she was a little off). Everyone said “who is he?, and you are crazy”, but guess what, she was right. Great memory!

Bear, Buddy was MIA from the house last night, and nobody knew where he was. So now we know !!! He must have made secret arrangements with Wolfie for a Blur-ride. That little conniver. But seeing as he is the Friend of the Month, we guess it was appropriate he was there. Wonder how he and Siber-H got along? Buddy loves huskies. Thinks he is one.

B&M: We have somewhat similar memory. Of course we knew of him later than you…while he was running for Senator and gave that awesome speech at the DNC, Mom hopped up and said she didn’t care how unlikely it sounded, she wasn’t settling for anyone else for next POTUS. So she worked and worked and sent letters, petitions, etc. to get him to run. Then she worked so hard from the very first day he announced that she ended up meeting him in person (so down-to-earth and great listener), and was chosen to be a delegate !!! That was some year for us all.

Sleepy Corgis here. Rubbing our eyes, and needing to brush our teeth. Basil and Sage are off in the corner alternatly holding their heads, and trying to lick gummy worm juice out of their fur. Something about zippers…
It was a GREAT party. Redbone and Macy dancing – what a hoot! Remember the scene from “Hello Dolly” with Tommy Tune dancing with Horace’s itty bitty petite neice?
The guitar and banjo playing was great too. Wish Rio could have been there with his harmonica.
Thanks everyone who helped with the planning and with the clean up after. And just so you know that there is some justice in the world, Sage has salmon bonbon wrappers stuck to his whatsis with gummy worm juice – hahahahahaa! He is NOT amused.

Alice, thanks for the flight. You did an excellent job of flying around the areas of dense smoke. That is difficult to do in this state these days.

You guys, I feel safe. Of course I could be in denial. I am not downwind of it. That could only possibly happen in the winter time.
What I have noticed is that the national media is really playing up the wildfire and the nuke waste story. It makes for a much better story than one of just a wildfire. The local media is not doing that, but I am very much aware that this State’s economy is helped by having that Lab here and a few other smaller ones.

Wookie is right about all the beautiful country burning up.
Wookie, you know the area round Jemez Falls and the campground there. I think it is GONE. There is so little water in this country that a beautiful place like Jemez Falls is special. Mom used to take her first Siberian up there and go wading on a hot summer day. I am not going wading.

  46. OleyHowlers

Rio, We do not understand #5 and #6.

#5: your bid is “added to this amount” .. does this mean if the Opening Bid is $20, then we bid $2 not $22 if we are placing a bid of $22 for that item?

#6: Maybe if I am interpreting #5 correctly, this is clear. So if the Opening Bid is $20 and the increment is $2, I can bid $5 which means $20 + $5 so my bid is $25.

We have not done many of these auctions (some ebay only) but isn’t each bid usually for the actual amount of the bid. So in the examples above, the bid would be $22 or $25 not $2 or $5 ? Perhaps we are just inexperienced bidders here.

GRUMP!… The Real Auction Rules…snort!…Some wires got crossed this morning and I had an old version of the rules….sniff!…Disregard above Rules and Read these instead!…grunt!dammit!

    1. Place a bid on any Item listed below by emailing the Item # and the Bid Amount to this email address: newbid@yahoo.com (No bids will be accepted if they are posted in the comment section under the Item.)

    2. The Item # is very important so please remember to include it with your bid amount. Once your bid has been received you will get a confirmation notice back. If you submit a bid with no Item # it will be rejected.

    3. If bids for the exact amount are received, the bid received first will be accepted. All other bids for that amount will be invalid. A notification will be sent stating whether your bid has been accepted or not.

    4. To check on the latest bid and to find out the amount that an Item is selling for, click on the Item’s link titled “Comments.” This is where all bid updates will be posted for each Item. The most recent bid will be the last comment in the list for that Item.

    6. Each Item will also be listed with a “Bid Increment.” This is the minimum amount the latest bid can be raised. If the Bid is at 25.00 and the Bid Increment is 3.00 then the smallest Bid you can enter would be 28.00.

    7. It is important that you check the “Comments” section of the Item you wish to bid on to find the latest Bid before you submit yours. Bids of the same amount as the latest bid will be invalid.

    First thought…
    3. If bids for the exact amount are received, the bid received first will be accepted. All other bids for that amount will be invalid. A notification will be sent stating whether your bid has been accepted or not.
(I think you should replace exact with the word ‘same’.)

    Second thought…
    5. Each item is listed with an “Opening Bid.” This is the beginning value given to the Item by the donor. All bids must be greater than this amount.
(I think you should say equal or be greater than this amount.)

    Third thought…
    9. No bids will be accepted after the closing time of 12:00 P.M. EST.
(I think you should ad the July 10th date here. Otherwise it sounds like people can’t bid at night.)

Also replace ‘#’ with the word ‘number’ wherever it is used.

I think I understand the auction rules.
    Thank You AD!!
Fellow Siberians, I think AD put the money up front for people that want to buy one but are not plunderers. The patches have to be paid for before the company makes them.

Well, it is a little embarrassing to say, but I sort of got lost on the way to the birthday party. I was trying to break my speed record, over shot my mark, and ended up on Martha’s Vineyard.

In Carly Simon’s front yard. So, we sang some songs about catsup(An-ti-ci-pa-tion)and hung out for awhile. And then I had to go home. Dang, sorry that I missed the steaks!!

Molly, we made another batch of the salad dressing ans shared it with a nieghbor the other day. They loved it, too.

Oley, tried to open the video on Chicago politics but couldn’t view it so will try Thurs or Fri at work. Not at office today, Thank Dog. The Crazy Boss Lady there has ongoing intestinal problems, and today the other Admin. gal called and said “You wouln’t believe all the TMI she was sharing today” Won’t go into it, but let’s just say – Yuck, Gag, Gross and Ewwweee! Why do some people think we want to hear that stuff?

Thanks, everyone, for the information regarding Teddie and her arthritis. She is taking Dermaxx and Tranadol (sp?) for pain, and she does get doggie glucosime and chrondrotin from the feed store.

Mom’s chiropractor suggested that we give her probiotics. It’s worth a try. She is feeling much better. She hates to be brushed but she is (barely) tolerating the massages. She always has been funny that way.

Yup, we love the patch also. We want to buy more!

    Hi Gang!
Rio – read the rules – they look great to us. Can’t wait for the auction to start.
    Love, love, love the patch!

Mama and Dad took us for a ride in the car. We went past a horse farm and Gilly said, “Bark, bark, bark”
We went by some cows in a pasture and Gilly said, “Bark, bark, Bark”
Then we drove by a llama farm and Gilly said, “Baaar….WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE THINGS?”. Then she dove under the seat.

Next we stopped at an ice cream stand, and guess what? Their flavor of the day was Peanut Butter Iditarod! Mama’s very favorite flavor is peanut butter, and with Snowhook and all – she says it was a sign for sure. So she got a large – just for extra luck.

  105. dawson

    Peanut Butter Iditarod!
    Yummers.

Well now, I’m pressing submit and the comment is not submitting, so I press it again…nothing. Mister says it is my mouse that is the problem and then I confessed my Double Dawson reputation and he says it is the mouse that is the problem. I told you it wasn’t my fault! Submit, dammit, submit!

Tupper&Gilly: That IS a sign! Especially in June!

Off to bed here too. I know it’s early, but we were up before the birds this morning.

The patches are great, we thank everyone involved, including the AD. What great people we have on this blog!

Dawson – sorry, we dozed off for a minute. Ricotta cheesecake is dryer, hence maybe “healthier” – but, hey, we are talkin’ cheesecake here. How healthy can it be.
We do like New York style “dry” cheesecake. The contrast with sweet toppings makes the cake itself more delectable.
If we can find a recipe, we will send it to you.
meanwhile – we gotta go to bed. G’night everyone.

On long flights — especially red-eye flights — you can lose several hours of sleep time, which can set you back considerably even without the jarring time change. If you live by a regular schedule (up at 7 a.m., in bed by 10 p.m. every night), watch out. Jet lag hits those with rigid body clocks the hardest. For parents, be sure to bring along books and toys your child can play with on his or her own, as kids are nearly immune to jet lag.
