“Anyone out there care about tennis, do you think?” says Admin.

I sure do, if we’re talking tennis balls. Plus I even took a lesson once, sort of. Isn’t that in Thereby Hangs A Tail?

“Because,” Admin goes on, “we’re in a golden era of men’s tennis, with three amazing players at the top. Yesterday’s French Open semifinal between Federer and Djokovic was a classic, and tomorrow’s Nadal-Federer final should be great. It’s at nine AM. Don’t miss it.”

“But aren’t you playing doubles in that heart-fund charity tournament at nine tomorrow?” says Spence.

“So you yourself will be missing this thing you said not to miss.”

“Your point?”

“Got a strong partner?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

Uh-oh. They’re not getting along.

Welcome Yo Yo.

I like tennis! Good luck in the tournament Admin…and, of course, you can always tape the French Open.

    Good morning Chet and everyone.

“Doctorate” is a noun and refers to the degree; “doctoral” is an adjective so it should be “doctoral student.” (Sorry but you know that I get antsy about these things…..I’m not obsessive.) Sounds like a good candidate to have as a renter of a home.

Wolfie, What kind of bugs do you have? These things are over the top annoying. They must be a small fly or nat. They swarm at your face, get in the ears, eyes, mouth. They just appeared mid week, and nothing deters them, impervious to bug spray!

Hey B&M and Wolfie. Those bugs sound awful. So far we don’t have them. What we do have are fuzzy dandelion seeds floating gracefully through the air. (Love dandelions but have never had the wine.) Joe and Ingrid are so cute that they look like stuffed animals.

Hey, y’all! Just a quick hello before Mom and Dad are off to do errands this morning. Since one of those errands is going to the v-e-t’s office for my flea stuff, I’m more than happy to have them out and about this morning. But hopefully they won’t be too long, and I’ll be back later!

(Sorry I haven’t been on the past couple of days. I got in a fight with those stupid girls. It started with Maggie trying to get some food I know Dad meant for me to have, and then when Addison tried to protect Maggie I attacked her instead. It didn’t end until Mom grabbed my collar and dragged me away. I was so mad I even tried to bite her! Needless to say, I got in trouble — banished to the laundry room until I cooled down. So I’ve been trying to lay low and not attract any attention — like asking Mom to turn the computer on for me!)

Good morning everyone. We just stopped by for a quick Hello since we have to help Mom with all the Saturday farm chores.

We used to play tennis….wonder what happened to that ball outside…

Barb, we love love love those baby goats. Wonder if Mom would get us some of those? Meashka has a stuffed sheepie so maybe…

We do not have those kind of bugs that Maggie and Wolfie have, but we have overwhelming number of stink bugs in our house. Those came from New Jersey.

Molly, I know, they look like they would never fit. They probably weigh about 3-4 lbs. each, but Sandy is small, so that was alot for her.

We will try our best to raise them right, but with teenagers, you never can tell. The Marauders are a pretty strong gang!

Tennis anyone? As close as I get is when I use a tennis ball between a wall and my shoulder blades when my back feels tight. Last time I played tennis I was hitting homeruns. Would that make me a strong partner?

I don’t know anything about tennis but from Chet’s post today I learned that we are in a golden era of men’s tennis. The Rockies game is on this afternoon and then the hockey game is on tonight.

Kirby, tell your mom not to feel bad about you trying to bite her. You didn’t mean it. It is just re-directed rage and the dog doesn’t know what he is doing. Mom has actually been bit that way before…Not by me or any other Siber.

Barb, cute goats and I am sure they will grow up to be good, responsible, citizen goats.

Fellow Siberians, I am laughing at your post about the stink bugs being from New Jersey.

We don’t have any pesty bugs here, but the smoke is back and they are now saying it will be around until they get the forest fire in Arizona contained. There are times that we can see smoke from a fire 200 miles away swirling around in our streets.
People with breathing problems to start with are ending up in the ER. Because of the smoke, the hot air balloons in the sky this morning looked like ghost balloons.

THAT does have one of the funniest tennis lesson scenes in it that I have ever read! When Chet is jumping the net, and then has a tennis ball, turns around in mid air and leaps again and has another tennis ball in his mouth and he doesn’t know how that happened!! LOL

    Pretty kids!

    Siber-H, I wish your mom could take a picture. . . ghost balloons . . .

B.Stover: Are you going to have any lawn when you are finished with your garden??

KirbyT: I realize that you KNOW that you are the Alpha of the pack, and you are tired of dealing with the two interlopers and it’s really difficult if they decide to eat your food. Perhaps to cool things down a little your mom might want to feed you in a different room than the other two? Then you won’t feel like you have to be on your guard when eating . . . Just a thought.

Been busy here: Thought of Staff and Dawson when I stopped at a tag sale this morning. Ended up going back with ME and getting a car alternator for YsuccessfulAS to use in a project they are doing. The two are making a small wind generator. I also had ME look at a 10 speed bike for me to take to NYC for you know who. He’s going to fix it up and get it working. Steel frame should last for years.

    What fun!

Melanie: I’m putting the tomato plant and the orange mint in pots. Two of the other spreading herbs–spearmint and lemon balm–are also in pots. The nasturtium is in the ground and it’s true that one year it took over about one-third of the garden…..but it was beautiful!

I’ve been having fun in the kitchen. Made a chick pea salad with a bunch of herbs, tomato, celery, green onion and hearts of palm. The dressing is garlic olive oil and lemon juice. Should go well with roasted chicken.

B&M: The baby goaties are terribly cute!

The Prof and I are up here in Warwick, NY spending a quiet and restful weekend in the Wildflower Cottage. The owners have a great Akita named Zelda. Since Rio couldn’t come to NY for a visit, I think I’ll just take Zelda home….

  33. Melanie
    3:30 pm on June 4th, 2011

Rose, Akita vs Riö . . . hmmmm.

We have Katie, Grace, Mattie and Franklin who will all go in the pool, swim and have fun. Ros and Mac are putting up a fuss, because of Rose trying to save everyone the last time and nearly drowning them. Patsy goes in if it’s HOT. Only. Then she swims, gets out and won’t come back.

Rose is now wearing a swimming suit. It’s her old anxiety wrap. We take her by herself. Her anxiety is lessening. She is told she is a good girl. She rarely hears that so she keeps looking behind her to see who were talking to!

I’d say a few more times on her own, and we can start introducing the others to be in there with her.

Mac and Ros? Treats will work. That’s next time!

I woke up early this morning to a chorus of snoring. AJ, Tenzing, Luna and Belle Starr keeping nothing close to time as they inhaled and exhaled. Amongst the soft hum coming from each of my companions could be found the occasional jingle.

Having accompanied AJ to work the past few days in the back country Luna and her dog Belle Starr were each adorned with a bear bell around their collar to warn the black and browns of their presence. While AJ worked the past few days the girls played to the point of exhaustion. Arriving home last night each quickly and without hesitation made their way to bed they agree to share with AJ and I without bothering to remove the bear bells.

With each adjustment, each roll, each movement last night among the snores a trill of a bell would ring.

Gosh Rebecca I hope that is a King size bed. I have trouble with Staff and Mr.Staff if we all sleep together on the bed, and Alice doesn’t even try to join us.

I’m back! Mom and Dad finally finished their errands and got back home. I guess Mom has always bought my flea stuff, and this is the first time Dad was with her. He said he just about had a heart attack when he heard how much it was! But I’m worth it!

I guess I should clarify about that last incident. Dad has been feeding those two girls (who are used to being together) in the laundry room with the door closed, and me in the dining room — which is only right! When we got in the fight we were in the living room and Dad was giving Maggie a treat that I’m sure he meant to give me! And I haven’t been in the laundry room this whole time, just for a little bit — Mom let me out after I calmed down. I’m just trying to be on my best behavior since then and not bug her too much since I’m already in her doghouse — so to speak!

Kirby, We understand that food thing completely. None of us will go anywhere near the others if they have any food near them. Because if we do, a war will break out. Mom says we had “food issues” because of our previous situation. Who knows…just know that its best for us not to get close to each other’s food. But Sasha went after our big brother Boris when she first came here to live. All because he was waiting for Mom to give him a cookie. She is not one to mess with, and we all know it.

My boy said, “Shouldn’t we just wait until Abby and Maggie leave, because everytime I vacuum in here, it just gets covered with hair again!” Mom and Dad just kind of rolled their eyes, and explained that that’s why they have to keep vacuuming!!!

Just so you know, though, it’s not me leaving all that hair. It’s those girls! Another good reason to get rid of them! But Mom says since my girl is moving back home, they’re going to be here at least until she gets a job and can find a place to live. Mom says that’s at least August. August? That’s two months away! Hi Barb, I googled your question and got this answer from…

There was tons more there but basically calicos are mostly white and one (or more)other color and Torties are two colors and some white.

“What is the difference between a Calico and a Tortoiseshell?

Answer: Goodness, a lot of questions there. 🙂
The difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell is this:

With a calico, there is a significant amount of white, and the two colors are broken up into distinct patches. This has to do with the interaction of white spotting.

With a tortoiseshell, the three colors are blended and don’t form distinct patches. A tortoiseshell may have significant portions of white as well, but the remaining colors are blended (this particular pattern is called a tortoiseshell and white).

OMG!….Her fajitas are going to be so good I cannot stand it!…snort!snort!…. Even her mother is not telling her how to make them this time…heh!…Now that is really saying something, let me tell you…chorkel!… I’m told a huge ole walk is in my future after supper even with all the running about we did today…grunt! …Unfair, unfair, unfair…gruvvel!

Rio: A three dog night is standard for us year round, but we’ve been known to have a five dog night a time or two—I’m sure we could sneak you in and no one would be the wiser. That pesky yard rule seems to cramp your style a bit…

Barb & Maggie: The baby goats are adorable. I had llamas years ago and the baby llamas and baby goats look very similar.

You guys have been busy today! 🙂

    Abbie, you’re beautiful. Don’t change.
B.Stover, I’m glad you’re doing the pots, you don’t have to weed.
Dawson, tell me about the tennis ball on your back. I think I could use that.
OleyHowlers, sounds like you dogs got the better of the work detail! How did Dad do all of that with his foot in a cast?
KirbyT, It will get better soon. Two months will go by in a snap! If you do want some extra black dog hair, I’ve got some up here I can send down.
    Riö, glad the Rockies won.
Bella . . . Night music. A little noisy but isn’t it nice?
BSD and Siber-H, Anxiety wraps work for Rose. They aren’t perfect (it’s like putting panty hose on a moving object though Rose now stands for it) and in the summer we don’t keep it on her a great deal. It seems to enable her to focus and listen. This is a good thing. Zoë also using “Daily Calm” for dogs from Springtime, Inc. This is helps a great deal.

Also, I have finished the pool video. It’s processing on youtube. It’s called River Bear Newfoundlands’ Dog Pool. Not sure when it will be up.

Snicker. It was fun to make. Too much expended brain energy . . . must go to bed!

Melanie: I have been busy this week so I didn’t really get a chance to catch up on the blog, but the image of the Newfs in their pool makes me smile. Why do I picture Rose in water-wings?

Rio: Faux “paw” – I love it! Now her project is as she wants it, your friend must be very relieved; and with all those compliments she knows it is appreciated by all who see it.

Who would have thought Abbie was a multicolored Kat! From the front she looks just like Masquers.

Hi & Bye to Siber-H, Kirby, SnowBella, B&M, Staff & B. We, like Melanie, are turning in. It’s been a long day. O.Howlers, you’re the Guard Dogs – Stay.

Mom & Pop are home from dinner. They even brought home some of their food! Mom says we can’t have chicken wings, but she will share her portabello quesadillos with us tomorrow.

Melanie, the pool is great. Our favorite scene was the dive…that was amazing.

Pop uses the small tractor to cut grass. He uses that tractor like a wheel chair too…gets all around the farm on that.

We are exhausted from all the work today. Good nite to all.

That pool looks like lots of fun! Except that I’d rather drink water than swim in it, and if I stood on that platform the water would still be over my head. But aside from that it looks great!

Dan!…He looked good in the video!…snort!…I said Hi to Dan too!…heh!

Tired!…I just got back from a long long long walk. Someone in this neighborhood is smoking everybody out with their Smoker it smells like…gasp!…It smells nice like up in the mountains camping, but then it gets a little too nice and we start coughing…grunt!…Her mother is fit to be tied because she hates the smell of hickory smoke or any other kind of smoke…sniff! sniff!…Smells kind of good!…cough!choke!snort!

Melanie: A joyful video. Lots of work and lots of fun.
Kirby T. What a great honor for your grandpa. I wish I could borrow him for the summer to transform my plain jane yard into a glorious English garden.

Dawson: I think we’d have to be in line first! Mom and Dad had Grandpa walk around the yard and give them some ideas, but they wanted to actually do the planning themselves. However, they’re finding that it’s not as easy as they had hoped! After all those years of moving from one set of military quarters to another, they finally have a house they can actually do something to, but nothing ever seems to get done!

I think I’m going to call it a night, too. Those two sleep in the laundry room on Buford’s and Missy’s old beds, and I’m out in the living room on the couch, so this is about the only time I have to myself. I might as well take advantage of it!

    Goodnight, y’all!
