Teeth (3- From To Fetch A Thief) (Revised)
Bernie switched on the bedside light, a dim brownish light that left the corners of the room in shadow, even though it was a pretty small room. He tried the overhead light; it didn’t work. I sniffed around. There’d been a man and a woman in here, but not recently, and they’d had a burger or two. Other than that, nothing of note. Then I spotted a strange picture on the wall, a picture of a bull and a dude dressed up in a glittery costume. The dude held a sword and seemed to be about to stab the bull with it. Could that be? I tried to look away but couldn’t, at least not for long. Has that ever happened to you? Meanwhile Bernie was unpacking, pouring water in my bowl, brushing his teeth. Those little teeth humans had – they brushed them every day for some reason. Mine are big but only get brushed when Janie’s Pet Grooming Service – We Pick Up and Deliver comes to visit. So: the smaller the teeth the more you need to brush them? Was that it?

Good morning! We are going to try printing a picture of Whitey to show the Grands on Friday. Last year, 2010, Baye’s class broke up into groups and each was assigned to a musher and dog team in the Iditarod. Baye sort of lost interest after her team scratched, but Barb wants to tell them about how we are sponsoring Whitey, to see if she can renew their interest for next year.
Barb is off for 2 doctor appointments in Monroe, WI this morning, so computer is being turned off. This is for her 3 month check-up. BBL

Sigh.
Good morning all.

He does like to tease us, doesn’t he?
I imagine that he is still giggling.

Stover!…Can you open the website that is hosting the interview with Thumby today?…snort!….For some reason that page won’t load for me…grunt!

Here is something interesting from baker media.com:
“Our most popular website/blog as far as blog interactivity, is written by a DOG!
Spence writes this newly designed Blog FAITHFULLY from the perspective of the main character, Chet the Dog. Blog posts average 100-200 comments and a full out community has blossomed around this site….and the genius is that It consists of dog lovers!
See, he likes us! Although he didn’t say anything about the Kat lovers.
And I’m glad he didn’t bring up the Bee and Melanie incident.
10:12 am on March 29th, 2011
Good morning Sporty.
You wouldn’t happen to be related to a certain author, would you?
10:21 am on March 29th, 2011
Morning all – we are off to Crazy Lady Land, allergies and all. But B.Stover, had to read your blog after Dawson’s query. Wow! This is some deep stuff. We thought it interesting that in Diana’s ire, she did not exact revenge on his eyes for seeing her, nor did she strike him dead on the spot, or even cause his mind to be a blank. She wanted his to know and remember and not be able to talk about it. And she wanted to make sure he would soon be dead, suffering in his silence and inability to save himself.
And we wonder where Steven King comes up with HIS creepy stories.
Have a fun day everyone – BBL

Love!….From a Lurker!…heh!snort!heh!….Now that just made my day. Sporty, I have tried both of your ideas several times, but something won’t allow the page to fully load. ….snort!… I will have to wait till my friend gets home tonight and then maybe she can get it to work for me….drat!…I was really anxious to read that interview with ole Thumby…heh!
10:38 am on March 29th, 2011
That’s two lurkers and counting!
Haven’t read the interveiw yet, looking forward to it.
Good Luck Barb!!
My sister is now in her 5th year of survival. Zoë wants to walk with her when she does the Walk. I think I’ll cheer them on and have water on hand and small snacks.
Working at the computer, but not much fun, just work. BBL

Lurkers!…Two lurkers? Who am I missing?….sniff!…Hi Sporty!..heh!
10:56 am on March 29th, 2011
Good morning Plunderers, Lurkers and Sporty.
Rio: I did what Sporty said and got to the interview with Quacky. You might try juliemusil.blogspot.let’s play Quacky Baseball. It’s a cute interview. I won’t spoil it for you. Did you see that Snowhook Belle posted again last night? She told us what happened when they tried Whitey-Lance as lead dog.
We are baker media’s most popular website. I don’t doubt it.
More Spring cleaning today. While the man is gone, the woman will throw useless things away. Heh, heh, heh.
11:13 am on March 29th, 2011
Dawson!…That didn’t work either…grunt! pout! stomp!…. dammit! …. Thanks for letting me know that Rebecca posted last night. I went back and read about Whitey and his love of hugs…snort! …What a goofy guy….sniff!
11:22 am on March 29th, 2011
Regarding the second lurker: Melanie was referring to herself as a lurker since she is so busy working on the computer. Or so I think.
11:35 am on March 29th, 2011
Rio: I haven’t read it yet but didn’t have any trouble getting to the second day’s interview regarding Quacky.
Wolfie: Thanks for posting that blurb from Baker Media. Interesting. I’m not surprised about the no comment on the “cane incident.”
T&G: Interesting comments. I’m going to be pondering Diana’s anger in my next blog post.
Have to look at last night’s comments.
11:37 am on March 29th, 2011
Rebecca, hanks for stopping by last night and telling us about what Whitey-Lance did when you tried putting him in lead. That is a cute story. Mom thinks that Whitey just looks hugable.
11:39 am on March 29th, 2011
umm…It did it again. It posted before I got the typos and everything else corrected.
11:41 am on March 29th, 2011
Trying this again since our comments no longer seem to post.
Thanks for letting us know about Snowhook’s post last nite about Whitey-Lance.
What a handsome fellow. And he loves hugs. Just like Meashka. Dima is more of a belly-rub kinda guy. Sasha (me) takes lovin any way you want to dish it out.
We are all loving Whitey and Snowhook more and more every day.
11:55 am on March 29th, 2011
There is a pic of Whitey being lifted up to the arch on Snowhook’s blog !!!
11:55 am on March 29th, 2011
Snowhook welcomes CHarris to the kennel to interview Whitey! Excellent.
G&BB: As I said, I really like your idea. Perhaps we could make some kind of logo that we could use during next’s years race. Could you give some details?
I miss Mollypop and Sam.
11:57 am on March 29th, 2011
Welcome Sporty, but why do I have the feeling that I already “know” you.
Thanks for posting that from Baker Media, Wolfie.
We will read the interview later today when we can relax and enjoy it. Mom says we have stuff to do now. What fun.
11:59 am on March 29th, 2011
Rebecca: Thanks for that great story about Whitey-Lance. He really does look hugable. You said he likes to go on top of his dog house. What do the dog houses look like & does every dog have hiw own? We like to hear anything about you and your dogs.
Kirby: Yes, I read Marcia Muller. Her last couple of books were so interesting.
If anyone reads Jacqueline Winspear her latest book “A Lesson In Secrets” is out now.
12:00 pm on March 29th, 2011
Dawson: It may seem like I”m lurking, but boy am I getting things done!!
I am talking about Linda the Lurker (waving) Hi Linda!
She wrote a note to us when Dan was going through one of the hard times.
BBL
12:05 pm on March 29th, 2011
Oh Boy!! Thanks for letting us know Howlers!!! This is going to be fun later today looking at all the new photos up on Snowhook’s blog and reading what Rebecca and AJ have written.
We miss Mollypop and Sam, too, and will be glad when they return to the blog.
12:07 pm on March 29th, 2011
Contest! This would be a great time for a Logo contest because there is a new book to given away, we haven’t had a contest in ages, there is a new book to be given away, we can’t wait for the slower than molasses in the winter facebookee fans and there is a new book to be given away. Contest!
Melanie: Oops. How did I get here in front of the computer when I am supposed to be down in the basement getting things done? Back I go.
12:14 pm on March 29th, 2011
Thanks Howlers. The pictures on the blog are great and Rebecca is such a wonderful writer, you feel like you are there with her!
12:21 pm on March 29th, 2011
oh oh ! Rebecca posted more about the newest pack-member “Zebbe” on Facebook. She already finished the Iditarod !!!
12:26 pm on March 29th, 2011
Stover!… You won’t get anything out of Puss N’ Boots…snort!….They want someone else to come up with a design….grunt!… I’ve got some ideas and I know someone who sketches, so when I see them this weekend I will run it by them and see what happens…..wheeze!…But even if we do get a sketch that everyone likes, there’s a lot more to making a patch with stitch work on it….. grunt!….That would be in the realm of Staff or Debbie…sniff!

Regarding the Quacky interview with Thumby: Medwick Ducky–what is the “secret to his name”?
1:22 pm on March 29th, 2011
Here’s the Wikipedia article on Joe Medwick.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Medwick
1:27 pm on March 29th, 2011
I might be able to get OTAS interested. He loves Chet and Bernie. He and F are coming up this weekend.
Can’t promise though.
1:53 pm on March 29th, 2011
O.Howlers.Thanks Sasha, for the update on the new info at Snowhook’s Blog!
Rebecca, Thank you for your latest posts – here and on the blog. This is such an emotional story and the pictures are wonderful! We are all looking forward to the C.Harris interview – hopefully in the new future.
And, Wolfie too, Thanks for the comment from Baker Media about our ChetTheDog Blog.
Have a good day everyone. We will catch up with you later.
2:09 pm on March 29th, 2011
Never claimed to be artistic, although actually Mom is. But nothing to compare with the creative people on this blog, your friend included.
We already have our design worked out for our form for sending Snowhook our checks but it’s not suitable for a patch or logo. Wonder if there will be problems using Chet’s name (copyright ?)
Cant wait to read the stories tonight on Snowhook’s website!
2:41 pm on March 29th, 2011
B.Stover: Thumby wants his nick-name to be “Butch”. Joe Medwick wanted his nick-name to be “Mickey” or “Muscles” but in reality it was “Ducky Wucky”. That’s the “secret”. You can’t pick your own nick-name. Or so I think.
Gus and BooBear: Go ahead! Live dangerously! Send the check.
2:51 pm on March 29th, 2011
Barb is back from the doc visit. Doesn’t have to see them again for 3 months, thank Dog! Now she is going to the Crazy Lady II place. BBL
3:51 pm on March 29th, 2011
B&M: Glad things went well with the doctor.
Dawson: Thank you. I read that in the Wikipedia article that I posted. I wonder if that name is the “inside joke” that Spence and Admin were referring to.
Rio and Melanie: Wouldn’t it be great if OTAS would design something for us!
4:16 pm on March 29th, 2011
Kirby..mom has read most of the Marcia Mueller and Bill Prozoni series(es?), she is not sure how many behind she is. Right now she is reading her favorite “junk food” book, Sizzling Sixteen, by Janet Evanovich.
4:46 pm on March 29th, 2011
Gus&BooBear. We would be interested to see that design you’ve come with.
Wolfie. As for the bakermedia.com commens on ChetTheDog we are thinking this could generate renewed interest in our blog and Snowhook. I, Bear, along with Nana and Masquers were encouraged to join by B. Stover a while back. (Thanks B! We love this community!)
Hey! Tomorrow is the big day! I know it’s not formal, but we are thinking of wearing our fine leather collar for the occasion. We can’t help but remember that photo from yesterday and the wardrobe remark! A priceless expression on that dog’s face!
5:49 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hey, We haven’t heard from Natasha lately, have we? Wonder if she is attending the Party tomorrow evening. I for one, would like to meet that high faulting gal in person, or in dog!
6:01 pm on March 29th, 2011
MinPin!…Is Grandma still in Janet Evanovich’s books?…snort!…That little lady cracked me up sometimes…heh!
6:16 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hey folks, this morning I mentioned Linda the Lurker. She wrote and said she has also sent a check in Chet’s name to Snowhook!
YEAH! Go Lurkers!
6:23 pm on March 29th, 2011
Oh yeah Grandma is still kicking, but not so hard, since she broke her foot in this one!
6:33 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hey, y’all! One of Mom’s co-workers (not the one who won’t read books by men!) showed her this video. It should be of extra interest to T&G!

Lurker Love. Huh.
Golf! Saw a bunch of crazy folks on the golf course behind the GRR airport on my way home today. All I saw was brown, brown, boring brown and denuded trees. Not a green thing in sight.
Teeth! My day started off yesterday getting 4 cavities filled, finish up to a root canal and prep for a crown. I’ve already met my out of pocket $$ for this year, so I’m going to wait until after 10/1 and get the crown done. Good times.
Birds! Can any of you bird watcher types help me figure out the difference between a hawk and an eagle? I notice these very large birds that eat the road kill from the highway. There is one spot where there is a deer carcass and every day I see a very large bird standing on top of the carcass and eating. The back side of the bird looks like feathered hair (remember the 70s), and the chest is very large in comparison to the rest of the body and head. Color is brown and white, but in a camoflage pattern, kind of like deer hair.
7:11 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hi everyone, good morning, sorry to have been a lurker for a while and some days I can’t even manage that. I’ve missed some interesting developments! This’ll take ages to catch up with.
Meanwhile congratulations Barb for the good three-month result, that’s great. How’s everyone else’s health?
7:26 pm on March 29th, 2011
Kirby T: The knitted royal wedding – so funny
LizF: Good morning. Is your show over now? Is all the art that was in the show on your website?
Barb and Maggie: Wonderful news regarding the doctor.
Linda the Lurker: Whoo Hooo! I think we’ll have the Whitey-Lance sponsorship paid for very soon.
7:37 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hi Dawson! you’re out of the basement again?
The show goes til this Saturday. I’ll take my camera with me and get some pics before we pack up so I can show you guys. The art isn’t on the website yet, too busy! Soon I hope.
7:38 pm on March 29th, 2011
Donation!….Well my friend told me she sent off our 2 cents worth in the mail today. If I know her that’s all she really sent…snuff!…I’m glad the rest of you guys are chipping in and even the guys we don’t know are chipping in!…zowie!…That is really good news for Whitey…heh!
Liz!… Hi Liz. I’m feeling okay, but my allergies are killing me….sneeze!cough!choke! …Tonight she started our air purifier hoping that would help me out…sniffle!sneeze!
7:49 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hey, Bear! I’m glad you joined the community! I’m also glad that you put the information about our donations to Snowhook on Chet’s FB page.
Hi Liz! How did the exhibit go?
I’ve just finished watching a two-part series from Masterpiece Theater on Netflix: Place of Execution with Juliet Stevenson. It was excellent.
7:49 pm on March 29th, 2011
Thanks for sending the check, Linda. I think of her as one of us anyway.
I agree, Dawson, I think Whitey’s sponsorship will be all taken care of very soon.
Barb, great news from the doctor. We love that kind of news.
Hi Liz! We hope the show went well for you.
Jasper, I am no bird expert, but I know that eagles are much bigger than hawks. I think we can rule out hawks. Maybe Stover or Staff will know what kind of bird it is. I’m curious now.
8:13 pm on March 29th, 2011
Thank you all for asking, the show’s going well, four painting sold – 21 still available!
I’m with SH on the eagle thing – much bigger than hawks, right? Jasper should stay clear of eagles, unless he’s a standard poodle.
Rio, is that hayfever?
8:21 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hurrah for Barb!
Let’s see if I get this right . . .
LizF: How you “dux” the show!
Lots of great things on the blog. I got a great deal done today. I’m so tired, I’m going to bed.
TTFN
8:28 pm on March 29th, 2011
Jasper: Here’s a link with pictures of both eagles and hawks. I’ve seen more hawks in Michigan than eagles but that doesn’t prove anything….
http://ibc.lynxeds.com/family/hawks-eagles-accipitridae
8:39 pm on March 29th, 2011
Jasper, Don’t know that much about birds, but I would think it would be a Vulture or Eagle since it is eating carrion. I think hawks will do that too, if food is scarse. Eagles would be the biggest, with about a 7′ wing spread, than vultures next in size, then hawks smaller. Do you live near water? Eagles eat a lot of fish, so they are more likely to be near large rivers or lakes. Juvenile Bald Eagles don’t have the white head yet, so that makes them harder to identify. We are about 50 miles from the Miss. River, and occasionally we see Bald Eagles, but not very often. Red tail hawks are a large hawk, so check on those, and the Northern Harrier is another possibility.
8:47 pm on March 29th, 2011
Liz!….We here call it “tree-fever” because both her and I are allergic to sycamore trees and we are surrounded by the deadly things….grunt! ….We once had an ex-fireman tell us that he and his brother were also very allergic to them. They did some research and found out the leaf fibers are not unlike insulation…sniff!…The kind we typically put in our attics and wear masks and gloves to deal with…huffle! …He said they are deadly and will cause asthma attacks. We both feel like we have asthma during Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter…sniff!…Especially during Spring, Summer and Fall. They drop balls of fluffy death at one point. This time is coming near. We have braced ourselves for the worst again…(((groan)))
8:47 pm on March 29th, 2011
Linda – please feel free to jump in sometime. We would love to hear from you!
LizF – I can’t wait to see your paintings! I hope you are able to sell a few more paintings before the show ends.
9:04 pm on March 29th, 2011
Thank you all for the kind words regarding Barb’s doctor visit today. Hopefully, good health will continue.
Rio, Why do they plant sycamore trees if people (and dogs) have such bad reactions to them? Does your friend’s Mother have them around her house? If not, that would be a good reason to move there ASAP!
9:05 pm on March 29th, 2011
Rio: I don’t remember you answering when I asked you before — but if you did, please forgive me and don’t snuffle at me too much! — when you move to your friend’s mother’s house, will there be fewer sycamore trees in the neighborhood?
9:06 pm on March 29th, 2011
B&M: Great minds think alike!!!
9:07 pm on March 29th, 2011
Linda!…Can someone explain to me who this Lurking Linda is?….snort!… I know Melanie knows her and she supposedly sent a donation in for Whitey for the Chet Fund…gruff!…But beyond that, I do not remember her as SiberH does, amazingly…heh!
Sporty!…Then there is Sporty, love the name, does anyone know who this lurker is?? Sporty tried to help me out this morning, so he or she is a Good Samaritan Lurker…snort!…By the way, my special Agent Wookie sent me a copy of the interview with Thumby via our intricate decoder device…..heh!…Thanks Wooks! You are my main guy! I can always count on Wookie!..,snorkel!
9:20 pm on March 29th, 2011
Sick-A-Mores!…. People planted sycamore trees way back when because they are big grand hard wooded trees with leaves the size of giants hands, or The Charming Mr. Abrahams paws, if you are comparing….grunt!… They are beautiful if you want a lush tree-lined street and neighborhood…growl!… I don’t think that the people who actually planted these huge powerful trees knew what an atrocity they really are till later when everyone was on oxygen…wheeze!… That ex-fireman said he was from Kansas and a whole neighborhood had sycamores lined up and down the streets. He said he and his brother had a helluva time whenever there were fires in that part of the town…cough!gag! …That was why they did the research to find out why….snuff!
9:23 pm on March 29th, 2011
Kirby, Don’t want to get in trouble here for a short post, but had to say ditto!
Barb is going to show the Grands the pictures of Whitey on Friday. Then she is going to tell them that if they pick up sticks in the yard, she will make a donation for them too, and they can be partial sponsors. What a good idea!
9:35 pm on March 29th, 2011
That’s really interesting about the sycamores, bad for you guys. I always thought the name sounded really pretty but obviously there’s more to it! We don’t have them here (that i know of), though we have poplar trees here that drop fluff in spring – but nothing as bad as that.
I’ve just googleimaged sycamores – they’re very good looking.
Thanks Wolfie! Every time I read your name I think of that delicious toffee…
9:43 pm on March 29th, 2011
Liz, next year I am going to send you some. I don’t care what the postage is!
9:48 pm on March 29th, 2011
Wolfie!… Did you read what Rebecca said about Booties?…snort!…I wrote what she wrote last night, but I don’t know if you saw it or not….sniff!…Your work will be very much appreciated once it starts. I think Rebecca has her own time-line for these things…heh!
9:51 pm on March 29th, 2011
Hooraaaaaaaayyy!!!! that’s great, coz when I made it three times it only worked once!
9:58 pm on March 29th, 2011
Me too, I just googled Sycamore trees. I don’t think we have that many here. I hope you are going to get away from them, Rio. They are pretty, but evidentally very nasty. We will now be watching for them…mom will. I don’t think she will let me near one.
All I know about Linda is I remember (yes, I do) Melanie mentioning her from time to time. I thought it was real nice that Linda wrote Melanie a note when Dan was ill.
As for Sporty, Rio, you may already know him and I am sure it is a him. The fact that the name, “Sporty”, is so funny, almost gives him away.
Wolfie and I are the only two plunderers that have been suspicious of both Lois and Sporty. We could be way off base.
9:59 pm on March 29th, 2011
Liz!…It has to come from Wolfie’s kitchen or it doesn’t really work…heh!…Even the one you think worked, probably didn’t’ work quite right…sniff!…We here didn’t get any of the famed toffee last year, but maybe this year she will let me ask for some…gurgle!…Seeing as none of you died from poisoning or anything nefarious…heh!eh!heh!heh!
10:02 pm on March 29th, 2011
SiberH!…I admit to being lost about the identity of “Sporty”….snorty!… I don’t think Kirby, being the Sports Fan he is would say, “Love from a Lurker”…grunt!…After that guy, I am lost as to who “he” is…sniff!…I was sort of hoping it was a She-Girl…mope!snuffle!
10:05 pm on March 29th, 2011
It keeps making me think of the Spice Girls – Sporty Spice. Somehow I don’t think that’s who it is…
If Sporty is a him, is he the only him here?
10:10 pm on March 29th, 2011
Barb, I think your idea about getting the grandkids involved in Snowhook Kennel is a good one. On the Iditarod’s website, they have educational stuff for kids and teachers and during the Iditarod Race, they have a real teacher on the trail. I know that teachers use the Iditarod’s educational materials because those teachers post on the Iditarod’s message boards.
I never pay any attention to the educational stuff because it is for kids not dogs so I don’t know any more about it than what I posted here.
10:11 pm on March 29th, 2011
Jasper,
When you see an Eagle you immediately say to yourself, “That is one huge bird”. they are so big that you only think that when you first see them. If the bird looks big next to the deer carcass then it is probably an Eagle. One that is striped like that is probably an immature Eagle.
Large Hawks are seldom considered large next to an Eagle. Size is diagnostic. Here is a link to a Flickr photo of an Eagle on a deer carcass. Look at the relationship in size.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cphousing/5480618495/in/photostream/
10:18 pm on March 29th, 2011
Rio, I think Sporty could be PA, Spence, Admin. or Chet. Wolfie also had some suspicions.
I could be so far off base that I am out of the ballpark.
10:22 pm on March 29th, 2011
Just to let you know that I seem to be doing really well on my eat more iron project. I can tell because I am no longer tired all the time. I decided to try some multi-vitamins with iron this week. I snuck 5 from Dad and am having one every other day. If that is no problem I will try one a day next week.
So hopefully we are all having good medical news on the blog! I think it was the Iditarod keeping us busy so we didn’t worry.
And starting on Friday…heh heh heh… sorry B. Baseball!!!
10:23 pm on March 29th, 2011
Mary makes the best toffee we have ever had. It is beyond description, it is so good!
Mary, You don’t have our midwest weather, so when do you start your tomatoes? Do you do them inside in peat pots like we do here? Or do you sow them directly outdoors?
10:26 pm on March 29th, 2011
Sporty!…Naw! No way…heh!…Those guys could give a crap about me and actually are probably plotting ways to get rid of me….sniff!…Alaska and a nice huge bear rug come to mine. Roll one pug innit and whaa-laa! No more irritation…huffle!…I’m always looking behind my back and checking the doors and the locks around here….gasp! …Any day now, they could be coming for me…yeep!creep!yeep!
10:29 pm on March 29th, 2011
Staff!…Friday is Baseball!…Yes!….Where is Alice sitting on the whole baseball season thing…sniff!…What are her predictions?…snort!…Good job on the iron intake. Maybe you will work your way up to the 10 pound weights soon…snorkel!
10:30 pm on March 29th, 2011
I can’t believe that Staff found a picture for us of an eagle on a deer carcass, and I can’t believe how big that eagle is when compared to the deer.
We don’t have eagles here. I only see them on tv when we watch programs about Alaska.
Thanks for the link Staff, and I am glad you are doing good on the multi-vitamins.

The bird is definitely NOT an eagle. The bird is about the size of an owl.

Hey Rio,
We parked next to a Pug, a Pug-sized Poodle and a Shitsu today. They were in a car at the record store when Mr.Staff went to get tickets to a concert. They were so cute and the Pug wanted Staff to let him out so he could visit. He looked JUST LIKE YOU!
Staff didn’t let him out though.

Just got back from my first of the year outdoor walk with dogs. Fortunately I saw the two moose coming at us through the woods while the dogs were busy sniffing around a tree. I guess more snow needs to melt before another walk is attempted.
I wonder how many lurkers are around? Too cool. You are certainly welcome to join us in conversation and to be bossed around by Rio.

Heh, Hey Jasper,
You only need to see an Eagle once. Then you never ever doubt if a bird is an Eagle. We do commonly see them in North Dakota on deer carcasses. Right beside the highway. The first one I saw was in a tree about 1/2 a mile away. It was HUGE! I could tell from that distance that I had never seen anything that big before.
If you don’t think it is huge it is not an Eagle. Hawks are large. Many owls are large. Eagle’s are HUGE.
Hey Rio,
Are we going to do our National League and American League preditions this year? Maybe on Saturday? Last year Admin and Spence got in it too. Heh heh heh.
I have no idea for the National League. Twins for the American!!!
Mr.Staff says about the National League “The easy pick is Philadelphia again. Nobody would have picked San Francisco.”

Thanks for the toffee compliments, guys. It looks like we may have a new Plunderer tradition!
I really do need to get my seeds planted. I have been down in the dumps and actually called a yard guy to do the heavy work this year. The temps are in the 60s and it is beautiful!
Rio, I just now read the bootie message. I think it will be fun, and I’m going to plan a couple of workshop days. Hopefully some of us can join in. We’ll see how it goes.

Siber, I’ll bet you dollars to donuts that we’re on to something. Sporty, ha ha ha. You gotta love it!
Rio, if you are nice to all the newcomers, I’ll send you lots of toffee. Santa is making a list and checking it twice……

You tell him Wolfie. It won’t do any good but you tell him. Rio is just Rio.
Going to bed now.
Hugs to everyone.

Wolfie!… No!

Plunderer Toffee, now that’s a good marketing idea – I like that it can be a tradition! Is it only once a year or can we mark lots of occasions with a Wolfie-toffee-fest?
Staff you’re right, i looked at that picture and thought ‘that is one big bird’. Also an amazingly messy carcass.

I think my bird is a hawk of some kind. Gotta do more research, but it’s late and time to zzzzzz.
10:59 pm on March 29th, 2011
Rio, they are not coming to take you away. We won’t let them.
Some of the sports writers are liking the Boston Red Sox this year.
C.Harris, Moose are scary. They are probably scarier than our rattlesnakes. You and the dogs be careful.
We don’t have moose here either, but we have elk. They don’t attack like moose do. We really, really want to see an eagle now in the wild. I never dreamed they were that huge.
I am falling asleep.
Night All

Just to put everyone’s minds at ease, no, I’m not Sporty! Although I do love my lacrosse ball…

Sox!….Wouldn’t if be absolutely amazing and most excellent if the Rockies and the Red Sox met in the World Series again?….snort!….Only this time the tables would be turned and things would be opposite of the first time the Rocs were in that position against those Boston Beans…heh! …It’s all a blur to me now, like a dream of sorts but it could happen again. It could! could!could! …gruff!

CHarris: Do you take any kind of weapon with you when you go for a walk? Dad went up to Alaska once for the Army, and he visited some friends who had gotten stationed up there. The wife said she would take a rifle with her when she went out berry picking, just in case a fierce critter (no, Mollypop, not you!) came blundering through the woods.
Oh, and Dad brought a moose back home with him, only it was one of the stuffed variety — a gift for my boy who was then a month old. All the stewardesses were oohing and aahing over the moose. Dad said he could have easily picked one of them up. He thought it was pretty funny, but Mom was not amused! (Dad is pretty strong — I’m sure he could have picked up one of those women without any trouble at all. Don’t know why that upset Mom so much!)

Jasper, If it was too small to be an eagle, then it was probably a hawk. Could be wrong, but don’t think owls commonly eat carrion. Also, some owls hunt at dusk, rather than daytime. Our vote is a small hawk.
Mary, if you once get outside and start gardening, it might help with the depression. Give it a try, see if you can get into the Spring renewal/rebirth frame of mind.
Good night, all.

False Spring
I’ve been outside watching the trees
Those flowering fools
Don’t they know the dangers of blooming too soon?
They can’t, of course
They’ve been talking to the sun,
Singing and dancing and swaying in the sun.
But no matter.
What I’m really seeing on this too warm day is another spring.
A young girl’s spring it was,
And she made merry too
Singing and dancing and swaying in the sun,
Blind to the storm that wandered in,
Until it froze her heart.

Gah!…That was so nice and Spring Like until the last line…snort!…I love it!!! Did you write it yourself, Wolfie?…wuffle!…Wow if you did!…heh!….Or dumb me if you didn’t…grunt!
11:23 pm on March 29th, 2011
Rio: You almost could have seen Dad! This morning Dad and I were taking a nap together and I was freezing so Mom covered us up with Dad’s Army blanket. She was going to take a picture of us together, but Dad was awake. I’m not sure he would have appreciated everyone looking at him!
11:25 pm on March 29th, 2011
Wolfie: I agree with Rio. That was a real nice poem, but the last line was a real downer!
11:31 pm on March 29th, 2011
Darkness!…Well, this is my cue to go to bed or at least snooze on the couch with her…snuffle!…She is asleep now, and has a big day tomorrow. Maybe a loud YEEP! or two would not go amiss…snort!…Anything that gets me on the big bed quicker tonight is the “Yes” ticket…heh!heh!sneeze!
11:38 pm on March 29th, 2011
Mom wrote that poem a long time ago. Not sure what brought it to mind just now, except, well, it is spring and all.
11:45 pm on March 29th, 2011
Kirby!…I actually liked the way the poem ended on that last line…sniff!…Because that is how Spring is sometimes – it gives hope and then suddenly throws out a blizzard killing all the fruit trees, tulips and makes Robins uncomfortable…snorkel!
11:52 pm on March 29th, 2011
I guess you’re right. It is a very dramatic poem, and quite true. Last week we were in the 80’s here. This morning Dad had to scrape frost from his windshield before he could drive to work. (He scraped Mom’s car, too. He’s such a gentleman!)
It’s just that it’s too sad!
Luckily, the flowers on our dogwood seem to have survived the frost. Unless they’re just waiting to drop off and depress me like that poem!

Kirby: no I don’t walk with weapons but I think I am the only one of my friends that go out unarmed. Since I am usually out solo, I may regret it someday. Sometimes I ponder taking gun class, buying a gun, etc. but I guess I’m not that committed to being armed.
