Technorage!

“You seem a little frustrated today,” Spence says.

“What was your first clue?” says Admin.

“I guess when you kicked the wastebasket across the room.”

“Yes, I’m frustrated. Somewhere on this computer is a new picture of the quilt the Plunderers made us and I was going to post it today. But can I find it? No! This old computer has a mind like a sieve.”

“Time for a new one?”

“Who’s going to set it up?”

“Perhaps one of the kids will appear.”

“We can only hope.”

Welcome Kellie, Charley Dickens, Sheba from AZ.

Good morning! Mom is hurting today, from all that lifting yesterday. They had to get 3 ton of pellet bags down to the house yesterday. We have no idea what 3 ton means.

OHs: Three tons!! Great Scott!! Take good care of your mom today, and wait on her hand and paw.

BelleStarr: (whispering) I don’t want your two-legged mama to splort when she gives her speech. One of the many classes the Prof teaches is public speaking. I know he’d be happy to give her some tips….

T&G: (whispering) Same goes for the Royla Mum.

Barb says she has an idea about 3 tons, but what are pellet bags?
Are you talking about a horse feed? At 50 lbs. a bag, that’s a lot of bags.

Morning all. I got Barb up at 4:15 this morning. I thought she would want to know that a storm was coming. I whined and panted and snuggled and licked her face till she got up and made coffee. We sat on the front porch and watched the sunrise and the rain. She says she will need a looonng nap later.

Hey Spence and Admin, just get a 10 or 12 year old in there. They’ll fix you up in no time!

3 TONS. That’s like picking up The Pack and moving them three times. Ow

YSAS likes to act, he does not like to do public speaking. When he does, he acts as if he is a public speaker. snicker. Really snickering because it’s true.

Morning all! Today is a busy day. Over the river and through the woods and down the hills we go . . .

Maggie, the pellets they had to get down to the house, and into our cellar, are wood pellets for our pellet stove. That stove provides most of our heat in the winter.
We would let Mom and Pop kmow if a storm was coming too. We think it is much better that they know. Mom says we won’t mind them so bad now that we got A/C. We’ll see about that, but we are enjoying the cool.

Melanie, Mom says that there is a slight possibility that she may be travelling up along the Hudson near the end of the month. Dima has travelled that way in the past and is certain he would be called upon to navigate once again. Meashka thinks he sleeps on the job and her guidance would be much more alert.

Oley, OK, now that makes more sense. Do you have an outside cellar entrance with the double doors that open up? A lot of older houses have those. That would make it a little easier.

  10. OleyHowlers
    9:23 am on June 11th, 2012

We do ave an outside cellar entrance. It has a regular door (with a cool arch). It is above ground at that end of the cellar.
The pellets were delivered up on the driveway, about 200 ft from house. So they had to be loaded into the truck, then unloaded and carried into the cellar. Kat helped a lot. The rest of us stayed in the cool and dreamt that the job was done.

    Our 48 seconds with Spencer:

Showed up for his autograph session 15 minutes early, so we only had 20 or so people ahead of us. My wife and son are librarians so we went to the table as a group. We mentioned that we were all initially from Phoenix, and “The Valley” seems awfully familiar to us. He admitted that this is how Chet sees the place, so that ended a debate in our family about “The Valley.” He then autographed one book to my wife’s library, one to our dog Yuji and one to my son. He asked if Yuji is enrolled as a friend of Chet and I affirmed that he is. Didn’t get a chance to share this (the 40 people behind us were glaring), but we’ve been kicking around titles for future Chet books:

Chet Mate: As soon as Chet finds the love of his life she is dognapped by Somali pirates vacationing in Arizona

The Hound and the fury: When Bernie is mad, Chet gets madder.

The path of leashed resistance: A former perp sues the agency for bite marks, causing a judge to restrict Chet’s movement.

Sorry. We just couldn’t help ourselves…..

Rio – software change-overs are the WORST!
Maybe with any luck, all the computers will start smoking and belching and will splort floppy discs all over the office. Then you will have to have a HazMat team come in and clear everything, and clean up the toxic data spewed on the floors, walls and ceilings.
And they may have to call in Crisis Intervention to talk your I-T people down off the ledge.
So, you may get your vacation after all.

And how come, when the Powers That Be decide to do something like this, they don’t think about their employees who actually have LIVES outside the office.

Mama quit a job once when they cancelled her long scheduled vacation that was to attend one of her very best friend’s law school graduation AND wedding. The company’s reason? “All vacations are cancelled for the week of xxxxx because our new office furniture will be arriving, and will need to be arranged.”
HA! So long company. (Of course, she DID have another job lined up to go to – and she DID call in sick on the days she had originally scheduled off. She is very, very bad)

Can’t wait to see her so we can give it to her. Also got The Market Square Dog in the mail from Amazon (it was on the MMSB from Dawson, but we were too late). Hey, y’all! Mom just came across this about FOC on Amazon.

Stephen King has called Chet “a canine Sam Spade full of joie de vivre.” Robert B. Parker has dubbed Spencer Quinn’s writing “major league prose.” Each of the books in this irresistible mystery series is a New York Times bestseller and now Quinn returns with a story that reveals the true magnitude of Chet’s star power.

Hoping to bring some Hollywood money to the Valley, the mayor lures a movie studio to town to shoot their next major production starring Thad Perry. Known for his bad behavior, Thad needs a babysitter and the mayor hires Chet and Bernie for the job. The money is good, but something smells fishy. When they dig into the details of an old crime, they discover that Thad has links to the Valley that go way back. To complicate matters, for some odd reason, Thad’s cat, Brando, seems hellbent on making trouble for Chet.

Like the winning books before it, this latest in the series offers a top-notch mystery and a rollicking good read about this irresistible human-canine P.I. team.

Staff, we still haven’t received the Market Square Dog book we bought from the Snowhook store. We remember you posting that you had mailed it a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, it is not lost in USPS ether-land. If you sent it media mail, that could explain the delay. It is slower than regular or parcel post. If it comes back to you, we still want it.

G & B, We got Market Square today from Amazon. It actually was ordered thru Amazon, but came from a place called The Red Monkey Books. I would guess it to be maybe 4th to 5th grade reading level. We had no idea when we ordered it, since his All Creature series is an older reading level. It is a very cute story, and well illustrated.

We are going to try to watch a movie from Netflix which has been sitting here for about a week. Margin Call is the movie. I think it will be interesting, but I believe it is one you have to stay focused on, or it won’t make any sense. I wonder if they talk about tin futures? Ummm.

Mama is off in the corner gnashing her teeth. There is a super huge supply place she gets beads and stuff from. She fills her shopping cart a little at a time over a series of days as she checks her inventory.
Tonight she went to put in a few last things and check out and OH MY DOG – her shopping cart was empty. She had 180 things in there earlier today. Now they are all gone.
And customer service is closed – even though they were supposed to be there for another half hour.

Oh my – Mama is just pulling her hair out. How in the world is she ever going to reconstruct that whole order????

I have been in and out. Have we heard from Wookie?

Thanks ever so much for the wonderful surprise from the wonderful friend. Mom has been a little down in the dumps and the surprise really made her day.

Hey Macy. Thanks for asking. I’m doing fine, just sort of hot here in Chevy Chase the past few days. Not Texas hot, but hot enough. Wookie

    Catch Up!
I’m trying to catch up on several days of the blog but my eyelids are drooping.
Bad wildfires in Colorado. Stay safe Rio and friend. (whispering) You could be too sick to work but not too sick to go to the mountains. Don’t let Jasper’s friend hear me.
Jasper: Your little quilt is hanging on the footboard of my bed. I love the “falling star” mistake.
Terry: Thanks for the letting us in on the book signing.
Princess Sam: You will be a Princess with long hair or short, but don’t eat the chapstick!

    Gus and BooBear.
I was going to send it Media Mail but it turned out that regular mail was pretty much the same so I sent it that way. It should have been received by now. The other things I sent were received.

I will check with Shelia at the Post Office. Darn it all. Those goats better not have been here in NoDak or they are goat toast!

If the pug’s friend came to clean here, she would be begging to go back to work.

Well, we missed everyone again, but we have all kinds of good things going on for Miss Bella’s Star Turn here in Massachusetts.

And we would just like to state for the record that the band the performed on Letterman tonight sucked lemons and various other citrus fruits….
either that or we are just tired and grumpy.

    Nope – they suck.

It was a busy day, a long day, and tomorrow is looking no different. Night all.

Oh, before I forget, Tenzing is snoozing on, under or near the quilt. He went to the vet today for a dental cleaning and possible tooth extraction as a result of his disease. The vet called late in the afternoon and said it was worse than they expected and they wanted to keep him overnight because he was still sedated. He is fine, I am sure—this is the same vet office that treated and cared for Rory. They are very good to our dogs. Luna is a bit unsettled not having Tenzing here tonight and Belle Starr has already staked out her spot on his pillow—the best in the house and second only to our bed.

On Long Island, every time some idiot lets their dog loose to attack somebody, even bigger idiots pass laws to make life worse for the 99% of us who take care of our dogs responsibly. We take some pride in being the most dog-unfriendly place in America.
