Taxed (More)

Admin looks terrible, all ink stained and surrounded by papers. “Can I deduct bourbon?”

“On what basis?” Spence says.

“Basis? There has to be a basis? How about toothpaste? I couldn’t function without toothpaste. Therefore I couldn’t work. Therefore toothpaste is a legitimate business expense.”

“Why not take a break?” Spence says. “Go for a nice walk.”

“Shoes? How about shoes? And if shoes, why not socks? Without socks I’d get blisters, rendering the shoes useless, and therefore … “

Hey there, Melanie: So happy to hear you are doing better. I think a nice leisurely walk is nice. It is a beautiful day here in Westchester.

Just remember, dial 1-800-Plunderer if you need help!

    Take good care!

RE: All that shingles talk last night. In my area, a commercial recently started running about shingles. Seems if you’ve had the chicken pox (like me), you are carrying the shingle virus. A vaccine against shingles is actually being offered. Seems like you can ask your doc about it. It is a very painful disease. My sister-in-law (who looks down on me from the Rainbow Bridge) had it as a young adult, and it was pretty rough for her.

Hi Rose, thanks for reminding me to do the “leisurely”. I sort of forget that part.

Melanie, The pumpkins can not be planted till it is really warm. Squash-family plants are among the most delicate. I know you didn’t ask about them, but we are mentioning it anyway.

Lettuce is very hardy. We planted 3-4 weeks ago, had some temps below freezing in the last week, and the plants are fine. Same with the arugula and spinach. A couple of the potato plants suffered frost bite, but I think they will send up new sprouts. The planting instructions on lettuce usually say “as soon as the ground can be worked”.

Glad you are upright again. Is Dan staying out of trouble?

Morning all – leisurely walks sound wonderful. So does leisurely playing with clay.

Shingles is a tough one. Our Gramp had a very bad case last year – and a friend of his has been dealing with a severe case for almost a year now. And on the other hand, we have known people who got it, dealt with it quickly and were over it in a couple weeks. We think that the degree of severity varies widely.

Mama and Dad both got the vaccine a couple of years ago.

I’ve done some things I can’t explain like transferring to a reportedly different section of a class my senior year of collage for no reason—AJ was in that class, we went on a date and were engaged a week and a half late so that inexplicable action made sense in hindsight. But, what drove me to buy Peeps from the clearance table at the store this morning? No idea other than I was channeling The Royals’ mum.

Bella – we understand completely. Mama and Dad were engaged the day they met – they even set the date for a year and a half later – and that was the day they got married. Almost 27 years ago.

Melanie and Rio – we need you to close your eyes for a minute.

Now – can the rest of you keep a secret? Of course you can – you all proved that with the Secret of the Northern Lights Pot ‘o Gold. Ok – here’s the secret:

We have two birthdays this weekend – Melanie and Rio. Bella and Mama want to throw a surprise party for the two of them. Its going to be held Saturday at Rio’s house, in his backyard – we all know why. Mama will get Melanie there on some kind of pretext.

Now, we need all youse guys to come up with some nibblies and beverages for the party. Make sure to have some gluten free stuff for Melanie and some hot wings for Rio.

So, mark your calendars for Saturday, and don’t forget – its a surprise.

Ok Melanie and Rio – you can open your eyes now. We weren’t talking about you – really we weren’t.

T&G: I can’t count how many times we almost eloped. In the end we were engaged for nine months before we told anyone. Bev’s mama senses kicked in and she knew I was going to marry AJ before I did. She, like the Plunderers, kept the secret.

OK, We will book Sat., plus Sunday we have a party for Lily’s double digit birthday. Rockin weekend!

BSD, we did plant the Saint upside down, but that was over a year ago. Maybe Maggie dug him up and relocated him without my knowledge! I’ll ask when I get home, but she has long term memory problems.

Funny thing – my broker called on Monday and said the other agent was talking a low-ball offer. I told her their high was only $5,000 lower than my low amount, so write it up and we should be able to work it out. Well nothing happened, so that agent called today on another matter, and said “Barb, we didn’t mean to insult you”. I said “you didn’t at all, why don’t you write an offer and let’s see what we can do”. She said she would pass that on to her people. Kind, sorta makes me wonder what my broker said to her!!!

BSD, The broker is pretty abrasive, and I think she discouraged them from even writing. My opinion is that if you get it on paper and you are just a few thousand off, generally you can work it out.

Did anyone see the news about the guy from Toledo who stuffed 6 bulldog pups in a suitcase and left it by some garbage cans? Someone noitced the mama dog by the suitcase and investigated. The nitwit-asshole left his name tag on the suitcase, so they found him. He said someone stole the suitcase and he had given the pups away. Doesn’t know how they got there. Now he faces 90 days in jail and a fine. Why not just take them to the Humane Society in the first place. The pups are adorable and all recovered.

We love the stories of quick (not short) engagements! Our mom and pop got engaged after dating 6 months. When they went to the pastor to schedule the wedding, he said they had to wait at least 6 months. So Mom counted exactly 6 months, and it ended up being her birthday. She said that date had been a good one for her so far, so why not. So their wedding anniversary is the same as her birthday.

Coach and Bev were the captain of the football team and homecoming queen respectively at the same colleges at the same time and never met. After they graduated, Bev would eat at a married couple’s house on Monday and Wednesday every week. Coach was eating at the same couple’s house on Tuesday and Thursdays. It was several months before the couple thought to set them up on a blind date. Coach picked up Bev at a party for their first date and promptly drove into a swimming pool. The first time he asked her to marry him he had the ring in the glove box. They got pulled over and the cop asked for the license and registration. Coach refused. Finally Bev opened the glove box. Mama was at an outdoor Native American art show. She was sitting in her booth, talking to a friend, when Dad walked by. Without breaking off her conversation, Mama told her friend that she was going to marry that guy. To this day, she doesn’t know what made her say it; you understand they had never met.
Dad was at the art show “by mistake”. He had agreed to take a couple of friends to a different Native art show, but only when they were halfway there did he realize that his friends had left the directions at home.
Later that day, they kinda, but not really met when a sudden rainstorm drove everyone undercover. The rain stopped, everyone went their separate ways. That night, Mama was going to go for a walk around the grounds, as it was at a beautiful park. Dad saw her and asked to accompany her (he thought it was dangerous for her to walk alone – snicker). He was a perfect gentleman, and they talked for hours. He walked her back to camp, and said goodnight. Then he turned around and said, “When do you want to get married?” Mama picked September of the following year. The rest is history.

Towards the end the Cousin finally gave up and quit asking questions that were answered with the negative attitude …sniff!…So much for having company over while we have to live here…grump!

Damn Ipaw! However, this round was a draw. The moose stared at me. I stared at it. After a three minute staring contest that felt more like thirty, he bolted off into the trees.

Rio: Don’t you worry about the venue for the thing you don’t know about.

Bella – news story around here today is that some folks who keep coming home to find a bear in their yard took to carrying little strings of firecrackers in their car. If the bear is there, and refusing to leave, they light a string and throw it out the window. snap crackle pop – no more bear.
Wonder if it would work for mooses.

Rio – whatever in the world are you talking about your neighbor’s yard for?
