Take Your Dog To Work

“Here’s a study,” Bernie says, sipping his coffee, “that says taking your dog to work is a good thing.”

Taking your dog to work? Not sure I get that, exactly. We’re a team, me and Bernie. It’s like we … take each other to work, if that makes any sense. Maybe not. For now I’ll just lick up the last bit of kibble dust from my bowl. It’s quite tasty, in a small way.

Mom tries to take us to work every Wednesday, but most of us think that is too darn B O R I N G. Except Kat…but then she loves everything.

Thanks to everyone for the strong prayers. Shiek still had a fever this morning, but lower than yesterday, and he looks a thousand times better. He ate a little bit of food…Pop is keeping a close watch on him.

Speaking of Pop: he is not allowed to go to work until Thursday, because of the tummy virus he had which is now all gone. Yowser! Just like Wookie, we have Pop around all day yesterday, today, and tomorrow!!!! Talk about fun!

No argument from me on taking your dog to work. For eight years Blou never missed a day at work and I started going to the store daily as soon as I arrived. That makes a total of 10 years that one of us has been “working” with my dad. It’s been good for everyone. My dad gets to take a lot of breaks to walk us and our presence has brought
a lot of people in just to see us. Word of mouth that we’re there has been good advertising for the business too. In all the years that we’ve been there, I think that there was only one person who objected. One day a woman opened the door to come in, but when she saw me she said, “I’m not coming in there; there’s a dog in the store,”
That was OK. We don’t need to do business with anyone like that.

OH: Good Morning! I’m relieved to her Shiek is doing a bit better. Having Pop around sounds like fun. Glad he is tip-top again!

Rio: Mayhem guy was one of the O’Reilly brothers on “OZ”. He was a real badass. He also spent a brief period on Law & Order.

Alice M: Your quilt pinshot reminds me of the beautiful, elegant, seductress Rita Hayworth.

    Welcome all new FOC!!!!

    Good day to all!!!

Glad to hear that Shiek is doing better. We’re sending positive thoughts his way.
Oley, I don’t find working to be boring. I’m in a retail store and have lots of people coming and going. Everyone takes a minute or two to talk to me and give me a scratch on the ear. Some take several minutes. When there are no people around, Dad and I go out for walks. We stay on the block where the store is so that we can watch the door and get back if someone goes in. This works beautifully in a small town like ours, but probably couldn’t happen in a city. I wouldn’t want to go to work in an office if I had to lie under a desk all day.

Hey I’M BACK! (Thanks B.Stover) Dog, I tried stuffing Dan under the quilt last night and wow, there was a horse driving a van under there! So I stuck Dan in the back and told him “Stay”.

I might talk to him this morning. Not sure. Going to have a talk with the PT person about what Dan is and not allowed to do.

Dan learned that you don’t tell the person that has fixed your breakfast, lunch, snack, made sure the dogs don’t crash into you, takes what you write everyday and sends it to the large computer, fixes what you wrote that day for you to look over and edit and did some editing while never saying thank you, “Who are you to tell me what to do?”.

So I’m leaving him stuffed under the quilt for awhile. I promise I won’t jump on it, don’t want to hurt the van nor Shiek.

Wolfie, you gave a very good explanation. You might add that she is a Borzoi, so poor Steve doesn’t imagine a 2 legged running in high-heels for a thousand miles.

What: A three mile stroll near beautiful Lady Bird Johnson Lake

Why: To bring the Guinness World’s Record for “Largest Dog Walk” back to Texas! Current record: 17,427 dogs. In addition, all proceeds benefit the Texas Hearing & Service Dogs.

We wish that we could zip down to Austin for this.

Work!…. If my friend took me and Beau to the busy-place with her it would be a food festival…heh!heh!… We’d be snuffling and snorting around every ones feet begging for the morning donuts…wheeze!… Then come lunch time it would be a bologna bonanza! Watch out! ….snorkel!….This comment is making me hungry – I wonder what her mother is eating right now….sniff!

Now vait minutes here. Vhat is to explain about Natasha? Ve are just like other Plunderers on blog – vell, more glamorous, more fashionable is true. And also, more irrisistable to male doggies. And Vorld’s Best Undercover Spy.
Othervise, Natasha is just like rest. (oh, ve don’t say “splort” – is just rude – not ladylike, and Natasha is alvays lady!)

NATASHA THE NEFARIOUS BORZOI: “So, you vish to compile dossier on Natasha, hmm. Vill not be so easy as you think. Natasha is vell trained to vithstand vigorous interrogation by experts. So you vill never find vhere Natasha is living. Ve have friends all over vorld vith many mansions and castles ve can call home. Natasha is expert in disguise and can appear to be anyvon, anyvhere. So, can only be said that Natasha is very beautiful Borzoi and is World’s Best Undercover Spy. (It vould be ok to mention that Rio, SiberH, Mac and Franklin are all mad in love vith Natasha – poor little dogs – they cannot help themselves.)”

    Steve,
For several years, Blou went to a photo gallery / custom frame shop. That business closed in 2008 when my dad retired for the third time. A couple of weeks later he came out of retirement to “help out” for a while in a new store in a new town. He’s still at it but not so much. We go in a few days a week or when called to help. The new
place is a combination paint and decorating store. We sell paint, window treatments,
wall art, and do custom framing. It tends to be a busy place.

Dan is now understanding that I am in charge when it comes to his welfare and the walker. We’ll see how that goes.

Splort. I also have seen it as a hairball problem. Also for those of us who are two legged, splort also can happen when taking a drink of cocoa while reading the blog and someone has just wrote something really funny.

I now have kleenex on the desk.

I am going into town to shop for a gutter! Yup! I’m getting a 10 to 12 foot vinyl gutter with ends and I’m going to use it for a planter! My lettuce is going in there! It will be up high away from bunnies. When I finally get it all up and planted I will put a picture up!

    Good morning everyone!
At long last, it is dry and sunny and warm enough to work outdoors. So Mama is going to spend the day working on her Bear.
Great news from the Howlers – keeping our paws crossed
Bee – climb under the quilt – there is still room
Siber – snow? Yes you are as happy dog! How is this winter affecting the drought that has afflicted New Mexico – are they thinking that the snowmelt will help?
Hey Macy – we usually miss you, since you have been on late at night. And yes, my dear, in answer to your question the other night, we are sure that you have lovely eyelashes.
Melanie – you go girl! (do we need to salute, or just rev the bulldozer engines in tribute?)

T&G This winter has lessened the drought, but only time will tell if it is just short term help. The snowpack should help with the summer irrigation, and I am hoping beyond hope that we won’t be breathing smoke from wildfires this season.
We have gotten enough moisture that all the native and invasive weeds are going to go crazy.

Melanie your gutter planter sound like a splendid idea. Do you have to drill some drainage holes?

We have a lovely day her, lower 70’s and sunny. Tomorrow and the rest of the week will be cooler, so we are going to play outside today. Grass cutting and a little gardening.

Tyb, We said awhile back that we have decided there are two kinds of people – petters and nonpetters. That lady sounds like a nonpetter, and we have very little room in our lives for those. Nuff said!

    B. – My headache started about a week ago when the trees started blooming. This is very early and hopefully will be over early too. I get emails from the National Allergy Bureau so I know when to stop taking allergy meds. (I don’t need them to tell me when to start taking meds.)

Moe, my service dog, lays on the floor in our home office or in his office bed and keeps an eye on me. I give him his lunch in a kibble dispencing toy and train him to do silly tricks just so he exercises his brain. The other week I had a cold and sneezed a lot. When I did, Moe would come up to me to check on me. Our Field Trainer jokingly said he must be a Sneezure Response Dog.

Tyb, your workplace sounds like so much fun, with all those humans to meet and get pats from. Our mom has a boring job that requires very little interaction. She sits at a desk all day working on her big computer. We are only invited to join her when she works from home. We usually pass on that “opportunity”. Now, if only we could go to her office, we are sure we would find lots of places to go and people to meet.

Meashka accidentally splorted just before going outside yesterday morning. She was humiliated beyond belief, because as Siber pointed out, splorting is a cat thing to do.

Speaking of Meashka, she is finding her nursing skills quite useful once again as she looks after Shiek. We don’t know how Mom would have any piece of mind without her help.

We go to work every day Mama either in the Mud Room or anywhere else we can get underfoot…..ummm…..make that “be helpful”.

I’m sure the collar looks beautiful on you…I would love to see a picture! I get squirmy and excited too when I get surprises.

Who on earth would want a dog at work? They are rude, loud, stinky, and clumsy. I work in Mommy’s office whenever she works from home. I have my own cubicle, which consists of the sunniest windowsill. Buddy is the annoying coworker who keeps popping into your cube and you have to kick him out. Then he visits Mom’s and types some stuff on the computer. Then she kicks him out. It is a lot of fun…and no dogs!

Tenzing usually tells me when e wants to come to the office; he will go stand by my car door when it is time to go. He enjoys sitting in the padded chairs in my office and napping in the sun. A couple of years ago he was diagnosed with a rare auto immune disease. At the worst of it he couldn’t walk and he couldn’t be alone. For several weeks AJ carried him into my office and he spent each work day with me. I have a great employer. Belle Statr has never been to work with me. AJ tried it with her once. Once.

Oh dear – Mama just came in and saw the tornado warnings. Macy’s home town is under a warning until 8 tonight. Hope she and her family are hunkered down in the basement.

She was out working on her bear. In case you are interested, fiberglass resin really, really stinks. After a couple hours, even though she was working outdoors, she was light headed and queasy – oh heck – she was sick as the proverbial dog. Thank goodness that part is almost done.

Melanie – we love the idea of a gutter for lettuce. We are going to use our window boxes on the deck rail for our herbs – maybe we will get a gutter for the other rail for lettuce. We do have just a slight deer problem here – the problem is that Callie, our Pyr housemate will chase bears and coyotes, but she doesn’t see deer as a threat, so she just lays there and watches them eat our garden.

The news just reported from the most heavily damaged areas of Texas. One town that was really ripped apart is about 37 miles from MAcy. Thats not far as tornados go IF you are in the path – but if you are not in the path, 37 miles could mean you don’t even know there was a storm. We are praying for the latter.

Macy’s last tornado occurred the same day that a certain anonymous donor made our entrance fee possible. I remember because I couldn’t stop crying because of gratitude—I was humbled—and then because I was worried about Macy and her family sitting in the bathtub waiting out the storm. I remember that Golinka rounded out our day with a question to Macy and I: So, anything interesting happen to you today?

  74. Tupper and Gilly

And now for today’s example of juxtaposition:

The scrolling news on our computer has first, a story about a group of Albuquerque firefighters who had a lottery ticket with 5 out of the 6 winning numbers, which netted them a cool $10,000. They immediately decided to help out a fellow firefighter from their engine company who has a rare kind of brain tumor and needs surgery to live.
The next story on the scroll was about how a certain politician running for the presidential nomination has spent x number of millions of dollars on negative advertising and entertaining big wigs and other totally self involved expenses.
    Hmmm
Guess which one we would want as neighbors?

Gutter Lettuce! Like the idea. All proceeds to The Plunderers’ Fund for Waifs and Mushers.

I will be getting my lettuce from Jung Seeds. They have a loose leaf and bibb lettuce. I am pondering …

If Macy was sitting in the bathtub, they probably don’t have a basement. A lot of homes in the south don’t have basements. Barbs bro and family in N.C. went to their interior bathroom when they had a major storm. Four adults and a Chesapeak Bay Retriever in a powder room for several hours!

I took a loratidine (Claritin generic) 24-hour non-drowsy and later on I got the email from the Allergy Board that trees were already beginning. My worst is when the pines are blooming and the NAB email hasn’t listed them yet.

We have been doing tornado research – we are pretty sure that Macy’s family is out of the danger zone – the two tornados seemed to both be south of her by more than 30 miles, and traveling east, instead of north where she would have been in the path.
Very likely that there are power outages and/or overloaded phone lines, which could mean no internet for her.
But we don’t see any tornado damage in her home town – whew!

Well back to the van issue. No it was not the fuel injector. The poor baby was out of gas. Remember I said I didn’t have gauges? Well Mr.Staff (in my mind) is in charge of keeping it full of gas. In Mr.Staff’s mind I drive it to work so I am in charge of keeping it full of gas.

    Sigh.

Anyway it is fine and OK although we still don’t have gauges. When asked why Mr.Staff talks about “taking out (or off) the front end and re-soldering each wire connection and you have to send it away to have that done because no one anywhere where you are can ever do it and the van is 14 years old for Dog’s sake how much money did you want to put in it anyway?”

The last time gas was put in it was March 3 and tonight he put in 18.5 gallons of gas (for a 16 gallon tank). 71 dollars worth. Although he says he got a real deal on doughnuts.

Did anyone spit out their cawfee?

    Night, Rio.

Many times when Tenzing was a young guy he would step a few feet away from us, look over his shoulder as if to say, “you better have your running shows on!” and the he would take off. AJ would find him the next mountain ridge over as I would wait and worry at home. I was always relieved that he was okay but angry that he made me worry. This was when we were living on top of a mountain our side of Park City and a snow machine was our main transportation. I would listen for the snow machine and sure enough Tenzing would be sitting on the seat in front of AJ with his paws on the handles. He made no apologies. Never.
