Sweet Dreams, Baby
I had a dream. We were down in Mexico, me and Bernie. This was on the Peanut case, but the dream was all about Lola – those strange little watchful eyes of hers! – and this time nothing got thrown at me, and no one yelled, “Perro malo!” Whatever that happened to mean. It was great to be south of the border down Mexico way, even if it was just a dream.
I opened my eyes. Bernie was saying, “And then?”
Colonel Bob shrugged. The human shrug is interesting – I always watch for it. “I went to an ATM and withdrew my max – three hundred bucks – and gave it to him.”
“And that was the last time you saw Ray?”
“Yup.”
Hey! Was this about Ray Jason, Bakersfield, all that? Had I missed something? I went over to Bernie. He scratched between my ears. That felt great. I didn’t have a worry in the world.

Rio. The Lola from Chet's dream is Lola the she dog that Chet met in Mexico on a case with Bernie in what may have been an early preview of TFAT that Chet blogged about early this year (but I don't remember exactly when). However good it started, like some of Chet's misadventures, it ended poorly, at least for Chet. Meanwhile, Lola from Damn YanKees was, well, just Lola (Gwen Virdon, I think), the seductive temptress of Satan himself. Hmmm, maybe there is a link afterall. Wookie

Melanie!… wanted something funny!… snort!… Well, I have a story, I’ve been racking my brain and I finally remembered something about an old pal of mine …wheeze!
When I was just a pup, my friend also had another older dog. She was so great! She taught me lots of tricks on how to get way more food than one could imagine. Her name was Cassie. My friend called her Miss Moo, because she was so fat and she was black and white spotted like a cow! No surprise there!
Anyway, there was one trick she could not teach me because I was so short. Cassie was a Butt Snuffer. Nothing she liked better than to sniff human butts. She could sneak up behind any given person and sniff their butt for as long as she wanted and they never knew. She had a very gentle touch, just like a pickpocket.
Well, many a morning my friend would drop me and Cassie off to be looked after by her mom and dad while she worked. Nothing gave me more joy than to see ole Cassie lift up mom’s bathrobe unbeknownst to mom, and sniff her butt! Literally lift mom’s bathrobe up get right in there! Heh!
One day… HA!.. I will never forget it, my friend was there to pick me and Cassie up from her mom and dads house and their lovely neighbor, Jo, came over to just ask something quick. She was wearing a skirt! Right in front of my friend, her mom and me, Cassie snuck around back of Jo and lifted her skirt up and Sniffed her Butt!
Jo had no idea! It took every ounce of strength we all had not to burst out laughing right there! Cassie had great timing too, she knew when to abandon the task. When Jo left we were all on the floor laughing our butts off!

I just heard. Dad is out of surgery. Staying the night in ICU because of his heart (just in case)
He's going up to room around 10:30, Zoë, my mom, and Martha, my sister, are staying until they can see him.
Then they'll be coming home.
Whew!

Melanie, we know it late after a long day. So glad to hear that your dad made it through the surgery. The great one up there must be wondering who is so special to be getting all the dog and cat prayers today. Paws & claws crossed for a speedy recovery. The Newfs are probably a little lost at home!
