Survivor
“Here’s a story from Japan,” Bernie says. “The Japanese coast guard rescued a dog out at sea, drifting on a rooftop – and three weeks now after the tsunami. No clues on the collar to point toward any identification. The coast guard rescuers gave him – or her, doesn’t say – biscuits and sausages. And water, too, I hope. Wonder what that poor dog drank the whole time.” He gives me a look. “Could you survive on sea water, big guy?”
Sea water? Wasn’t this about biscuits and sausages? I’ve been in sea water, that time we went to San Diego. We’d surfed, me and Bernie!
Welcome Sterling.

Morning, y’all! Isn’t it a glorious morning? Bright sunshine, blue skies, and a high of 72! I looooove spring!!!
9:02 am on April 2nd, 2011
Oh, and I meant to say that I saw that dog getting rescued. It was on a roof floating in the water, and the helicopter scared it so it ran in where some of the shingles were missing. They ended up having to send a boat to rescue the dog because the helicopter was running out of gas. They went to a lot of trouble to rescue him — that’s one lucky dog!!!

Good morning plunderers. Jasper’s mom here. Jazzy is at the groomers getting wonderfluffed. I’ll leave the surfing to Chet.
9:20 am on April 2nd, 2011
Good morning, Jasper’s mom! I’ve never been to the groomer’s in my life. My mom and dad give me baths and comb my hair sometimes, but I never get to go out for it! I wonder what I’d look like wonderfluffed???
9:24 am on April 2nd, 2011
Good morning! We’ve been wonderfluffed, and also defurminated. Happens a lot before we have a big party at our place. Also, whenever one of us gets too aggressive with a skunk. Those critters are nasty, and the 2 youngsters just never seem to learn from experience.
Wonderful story about that doggie getting rescued. We hope he is recovering from his ordeal. Wonder how many more like him?
Mom is still addicted to eaglecam. So we gotta go now.
9:31 am on April 2nd, 2011
Dan and Zoë saw the chick this morning! Very fluffy. I am waiting and waiting and waiting.
Soon I have to go to the dump with Dan, bring Dan home, and go get my birthday cake.
Yummers.
Three cheers for the Japanese Coast Guard!!!
9:42 am on April 2nd, 2011
I’ve been watching and watching, but I haven’t gotten to see the chick. I did see the eagle on the nest calling last night, and I waited awhile to see if anything would happen, but I guess I didn’t wait long enough because I never saw the second one come. Rats! At least it doesn’t seem to be as windy today. I was afraid everyone was going to get blown right off that nest last night!

IT DIDN’T WORK!!! 🙁
I was trying a fancy way to say Happy Birthday! But I guess I’d better just stick to the tried and true.

Happy Birthday, Melanie!
We saw the baby eagle too. And 135,000 were watching it this morning!
Here is a photo of the drawing the Lily (almost 9) did of Whitey Lance yesterday when they were visiting. She and Baye want to be in on the donations, too. Ben really didn’t understand, he was too busy watching the Eagles. Sorry if it is the wrong direction, tried to rotate after saving, but not sure it worked.

Barb&Maggie: A very nice picture of Whitey-Lane. Lily is very talented!
Rio & Wookie: Sorry your team didn’t win yesterday, but it sure was a nail-bitter and I know you guys had so much fun!
Hey, Chet! As you know – I’m a Surf’n Dog too! That was a heartwarming story of the dog rescue – thanks for sharing.
11:47 am on April 2nd, 2011
Good morning to you all and a glorious day it is.
Yippee – Whitey is sponsored by Chet’s Plunderers, Lurkers, and Friends in record time. Whooo Hoooo! Lily drew a great picture of Whitey-Lance.
Macy MinPin: I didn’t understand a word of your funny posts yesterday. Except the upside down and backwards one. I had absolutely no problem with that one.
Macy, Sam and (almost) Kirby: Very sweet and funny Happy Birthday Greetings.
Melanie: Whoooo Hoooo! Happy Birthday to you!
Wowzer! I saw Wookie and Rio on the Jumbotron at the baseball game. I doesn’t get any better than this.

Alright, I just posted a comment that never showed up, even after refreshing. So I thought maybe I didn’t submit after all, and tried again. This time it said it was a duplicate comment. But neither one of them has shown up! What’s up with that?!
11:59 am on April 2nd, 2011
Happy Birthday Melanie and Husky Birthday Hugs!!
Barb, tell Lily from us that she drew a beautiful picture of Whitey-Lance.

I saw the dog being rescued on TV last night. He seemed pretty happy & glad to have something to eat.

1:23 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Good Morning, all!
Sam, thanks for asking about my boys. What can I say? We are still setting our boundaries (although mom has slipped up and has helped out with groceries) and the boys are still spinning out of control. Cody is now a drug dealer, and this has been reported. They are essentially homeless, have no jobs, no education, no id cards, and have wrecked at least one car.
Our message to them does not change: We love you and when you are ready to work a program, call us and we will support you 100%. But they need to be in a place of humility, with their hearts broken open, before any real healing can begin. We have committed them to God and appreciate any and all prayers.
1:29 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Barb – I LOVE Lily’s drawing! And did anyone notice that she included the Northern Lights? Awesome!
I hereby nominate that we use this drawing for our patch!! What do the rest of yose guys think?
1:47 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Wolfie and Mom – Stay strong, you are doing the right thing. You have all of us from all over the world as your support group.
1:53 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Wolfie: Prayers will be said for strength and faith for you and wisdom and courage for your boys.
I think Lily’s drawing would make a great patch. Also, we do not necessarily have to have only one patch. Rio mentioned he has a couple ideas too.
2:04 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Riö, thank you for the card, pal!
OTAS and F should be arriving within the hour. The Eagle Cam is still down.
Wölfie: It’s hard, it’s hurtful, you are doing the right thing. May the Creator hold your entire family in loving thoughts.
2:26 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Eagle Cam is back!
2:29 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Wolfie: Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this most challenging of times for your family. I can only imagine what you are going through.
Yes, Lily’s drawing of Whitey would make a great patch!
2:35 pm on April 2nd, 2011
O.Howlers: Thanks for the update on the Eagle Cam!
Macy! That cake! We can’t stop thinking about it. Maybe you could bring some to our dessert course?
2:53 pm on April 2nd, 2011
You have to remain firm Wolfie. You are doing what is necessary. I wish that I could help. Just know that you have our support.
3:00 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Mom wants to have a patch from Lily’s drawing to put on her jacket.
3:04 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Wolfie – we are sending Corgi hugs. Mama has a sibling that her folks had to set free, so she knows how tough this is, and how much the pain hurts. But you are doing the right thing – if the boys are ever going to change, it will be because they have to face life without a security blanket. As long as that blanket was in place, they knew there would always be a fallback, no matter how badly they abused it. Now they have to make a choice. We will keep them in our prayers that they make the right choice. We know you have.
3:37 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Wolfie,
We are just going back and reading all that we missed. So sad to hear of your troubles. You are doing right, even tho we know how hard it must be for you. Mom will pray and we will send Happy Husky thoughts your way.
3:53 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Hey, y’all! I’m back — did you miss me? Mom and Dad just came back from an adventure at the not-orange-box store. They went to get the plywood for the new subfloor in their closet, only they picked the windiest day of the year to do it! Mom and Dad put a sheet of the plywood on top of the Jeep and when they went to get another one the first sheet got picked up by the wind and flew over another car! Mom was able to grab it before it blew away again, and luckily it didn’t do any damage — to the car or the wood!
It made Mom think about all the ladies at the Carolina Cup today. The Cup is a steeplechase race that brings people here from all over the state. Some of them watch the horses; the other 90 percent have a big party! By tradition, all the ladies wear pretty sundresses and hats. I bet it’s awful hard to hold down your dress and your hat and a drink all at the same time!!!
4:08 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Kirby – we would pay real money to see the sight of the ladies in sundresses and hats. Especially genteel southern ladies who are so well mannered that they might rather let their dress blow up over their ears rather than drop their teacup.
giggle
4:15 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Herbs: Who says they’re drinking tea???
4:17 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Kirby: I have a picture in my mind now of a circle of ladies, yellow, pink and blue, drinks in one hand, dresses flying up and hats blowing off. With the other hand they gracefully sleek the skirts back down then arc up to hold the hat brims with ribbons flapping between fingers. All the while the horses run around the track. Southern belles….
4:20 pm on April 2nd, 2011
LOL! I never pictured teacups!
4:27 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Well, trust us, they would NEVER drop their mint juleps. (oh, that’s Kentucky, isn’t it?)
4:28 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Justifed!…..On Demand has finally put up the 6th episode of Justified!!…..snort!….It’s been weeks and weeks without any new episodes….grunt!…I wonder if Mollie has been seeing any new shows beyond episode 6….sniff! ….We are going to watch it right now in case it disappears off the choices again….grump!

4:40 pm on April 2nd, 2011
The Kentucky Derby is the first Saturday in May (May 7 this year).
This Sunday a new tv series is starting on AMC (except I should be boycotting that channel because of Rubicon). It’s The Killing, I think….at 9PM Eastern time. Has anyone every watched The Walking Dead? Or is it the Waking Dead….
4:40 pm on April 2nd, 2011
I have a comment at 4:31 being moderated. I put the Cup dress code in the comment, but I guess the blog monster didn’t like it! Oh well!
Rio: Speaking of “Justified,” did you see that it won a Peabody Award the other day?!

Wolfie, We just read you comments about the boys. We are so sorry to hear that they are still not in a good place. We still feel that you did the right thing for them and for yourselves, if there is ever to be a long term good ending to their stories. Stay strong.
5:17 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Ahhh. Ooohhh. Mmmmmm. I’ve been washed, dried, clipped, squeezed, massaged, buffed, polished, waxed, kissed, hugged, patted, fondled and rolled. I looooove spa days. My name is Jasper The Spa Slut Whitlock. I am feeling the love from the tip of my cool black nose to the tip-top of my tail.
5:26 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Jasper: That’s the opposite of being all poodled up, right?
5:27 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Heh heh,
Oh Jasper it sounds like you had fun.
Wolfie, Thank you for updating us on your boys. I am sorry that they are having such a hard time right now. You are being very strong and that is good. All here are sending good thoughts your way.
I prefer not to speak of the score of the first Twins game (against Toronto in Toronto) last night. It was announced in the paper this morning that it was the worst first game they ever had. I am trying to think that this is a reverse good omen but I am failing.
(((Sigh)))
Rio and Wookie, I saw you on the Jumbotron before I had to go last night. Way cool!
5:43 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Kirby!… We finally got some new episodes of Top Chef….snort!….Still missing the 14th one. We just finished watching the finale. Wow! My friend started crying – she really wanted little Richard to win….heh!….But we both felt bad for Mikey….sniff! ….Maybe one day we will get to see the episode before the finale…sigh!
Peabody!….What is the Peabody award? I have heard of it, but I can’t place it….snort!….Is it for terrific writing?,,,,gruff!
5:47 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Did I mention that the AL champion Texas Rangers won last night? I did? Oops sorry. And Charlie Hough threw out the first pitch and all three times he has done that before, the teams went on to win their leagues. He may have to start charging for his presence!
Plus this is the 40 year anniversary of the team moving to Texas. The man most responsible for the move, Tom Vandergriff passed away in January. Out of respect, the first of the championship rings was given to his family the other day. The players won’t get theirs until tonight.
6:26 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Rio: Peabody is an award for radio and television broadcasting.

We love the webcam! Go eagles! Aren’t they magical?

Here’s a conversation between mom and dad:
Matthew! Guess what! Rio and Wookie went to the opening game of the Rockies!
Really?
No, no really. Virtually. But they had a fabulous time even though the Rockies lost! And guess what else? We are now officially sponsoring Whitey Lance as our Ititarod dog!
(There is a short pause.)
Is that virtually?
No, no, it’s for real! We made our quota. And by the way, we have been invited to a dinner party at the Royals on Wednesday night,
(There is a longer pause)
For real?
No, no, no. They live on the east coast! But everyone on the blog loved the toffee we sent,
(An even longer pause….)
Let me guess, that was virtual toffee, right?
No way, we sent the real deal! Don’t you remember going to the post office with me?
(One of the many reasons we love our blog…..it keeps em guessing!)

Wolfie – we loved the conversation. Our Mama and Dad have many similar conversations. He kind of panicked last week when Mama said she was havng a dinner party…..

Trouble!…. We have been having nothing but trouble with our old computer today…snort!…So don’t be surprised if I drop off the grid at any given point….grump!… That Eagle website caused our computer to freeze-up and it took forever to safely close down everything and re-boot…yark!….How frustrating it has been…sniff!…Plus, I have yet to see a little chick…growl!…I did see the dead rabbit though.
Rockies!….The second game with the Snakes will start in a few minutes…sniff!… I hope everybody has calmed down now so that the Rocks can get on with beating the daylights out of these guys tonight….heh!

Funny!… A guy in the audience was caught on camera staring at the announcers booth through binaculars….snort!….So the guys in the booth were remarking, “Is he looking at us? Can he see us? Hey lets wave at him”….chorkel!….All the while this guy is staring straight at the camera with his binoculars on backwards…heh! heh!…Now they’ve got him on camera again and he is still looking through his binocs backwards…chorkel!…”Do instructions come with those things?”…nope!

Mr Staff just told her that the star player for the Huskies learned his ‘moves’ when he was 10-11 and he loved to dance.
He is the point guard #15 named Walker.
9:12 pm on April 2nd, 2011
OOO Mr Staff is not really sure of Walker’s number. We are torn here. Do we want the Wildcats or the Huskies???? Pondering.
Happy almost birthday Melanie. We use carrot cake for our birthdays too.
We are not really watching the game. But Mr.Staff is in a nearby room and we can hear the TV
9:24 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Huskies!…I want the Huskies to win of course!…snort!…It is the year of the Huskies!…woooooo!
9:38 pm on April 2nd, 2011
I don’t know if this will work. OTAS took a “screen shot” of the eaglet (?). Very pixelated but lets see if Riö can get an idea.

9:38 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Well, I can see it. Not sure anyone else can.
9:48 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Yup, that OTAS is brilliant – always thought so.
9:50 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Melanie!….Please thank your talented son for me!….snort!snort!…I finally see the baby eagle chick….snuffle!…What a cutie pie. It wants some raw meat to eat, right now!…heh!…It is the female, isn’t it?…sniff!…I hope she doesn’t go for her little brother…gasp!
Golly!….Tonight our Catcher, tough-guy Iannetta and our Pitcher, Del A Rosa are doing all the scoring tonight…heh!…This is amazing!…snort! …Score 3 to Nuthin’…woooo!…This is way too much fun. No one should have this much fun!…chorkel!….Clap!Clap! — Clap!Clap!Clap!….heh! …Plus, the running joke with the guy and his binoculars….wuffle!

B.Stover: Had a great comment for your question about justice and lost it somewhere on the internet. Will have to try again tomorrow. Need to go to bed.
Riö: Glad you are able to see it. Everytime I see it I hear “Feed me, Seymour!”
Thanks for all your Birthday Wishes! Loved them. Hope you enjoyed the cake.

Dryness!…. You guys out East and Central US don’t have to worry so much about dryness….grunt!…But here, even though it snows like a bastard sometimes, especially in the mountains, we have very low humidity ….snuff!…Well, this is affecting our top two pitchers. First Ubaldo had trouble on opening day with split or cut on his finger, now Del a Rosa had to leave because of the same kind of thing on one of his fingers. This sucks because he was throwing a great game so far….grunt!… My friend, if she is not careful, she gets splits in her skin especially on her thumbs and forefingers….wheeze!…You don’t even want to know what the heals of her feet look like…gag! …Just thinking about it makes my paws itch…gruffle!
Lotion!…They need to make those pitchers go to bed with gloves on their hands after slathering lotion all over them…heh!…Its the only way to survive, or so I am told…sniff!…I bet this is why my paws itch all the time too…grump!
10:16 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Melanie, That is a great picture. Tell him thank you!
Barb is watching a show on Animal Planet, but she says I can’t watch it. It is called Bad Dog, and it is about bad things animals do and their people still love them. She is afraid I might learn some new tricks or something. Nighty night.
10:38 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Rio – we had to turn off the eagles, too. The site did strange things to our computer.
Happiest of birthdays to you, Melanie, and may you have many more.
Wolfie – please know we’re praying for you and the boys. To paraphrase Bette Davis – being a parent isn’t for sissies.
‘Night, all.
10:57 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Betty!….I thought she said, “Getting old isn’t for sissys.”….snort!…Or sumthing like that. She said a lot of things in her life, so she probably used the ‘sissy’ thing for all kinds of situations…heh! …My friend stayed in the “Betty Davis” room at a B&B in the point farthest east in MA one time….snort!…She still has the photo she took of the photo of Betty on the wall…heh! …If that makes sense…sniff! …She took a photo of a photo and it actually came out really good!
11:17 pm on April 2nd, 2011
Game!…I can barely watch this game right now top of the 9th….yeep!… The Snakes have a strong hitter up and guys on 1st and 2nd base….snort!….The score is 3 – 1 Rockies, but the Snakes could winnit if he hits a good one…wheeze!
11:26 pm on April 2nd, 2011
OMG!….It was almost a Home Run!…gasp!…Rockies Dexter caught it right at the edge …sob!…What a relief, for now. Snakes have 2 outs. One more out and we winnit! Our closer Street GOT HIM!… WHEW!… First win of the season!…WOOOOOOO!

12:21 am on April 3rd, 2011
Ian Kinsler scored a home run on the first at-bat for the second day in a row. First time in MLB history! I am not even sure what the final score was, something like 12-5. Pink socks heh heh
12:31 am on April 3rd, 2011
Rio: I thought it was just me having problems with my computer because of the bird site — luckily I got to see the chick before it started going wacko! I’m glad you got to see the Top Chef finale — we were pulling for Richard, too. I felt kind of bad for Mike, but he was just so darn cocky that I really couldn’t root for him! And everyone kept saying that Richard was the best chef ever to lose Top Chef, so it seems appropriate that he won.
12:36 am on April 3rd, 2011
Macy: It just gets me sometimes the things they keep track of! I mean it’s a great thing for the team, but who the heck keeps track of the fact that it’s the first time ever? Like a player will come up to bat and the announcers will start talking about how he’s the first person ever to hit .300 or more when wearing vertical stripes that are orange. How crazy is that?
