Sundays With Ingrid

Chief Strade and Joey approached.

“Stellar,” said the chief.

“Thanks,” said Ingrid.

“Stellar all around,” the chief said.

Their eyes met. Ingrid gave a little nod.

The chief turned to Joey. “Where’s that bouquet?”

Joey patted his pockets. “Must have left it in the car.”

But the bouquet – daisies – was still fairly fresh a few days later at the Rec Center dance. Joey handed Ingrid the flowers in the parking lot, minimizing the chance of any of the boys witnessing what could be interpreted as a romantic gesture.

“These are nice,” Ingrid said. “Smell them.”

Joey shook his head. They stood in silence, breath rising in the cold. Then Joey said, “I saw that movie. On DVD.”

“What movie?”

“The one your mom likes.”

“Casablanca?”

“Yeah.” More silence. Joey shifted from one foot to the other, like he was building up to something. How long was this going to take? It was getting really cold. “The funny thing is,” he said at last, “you do kind of look like her.”

Like Ingrid Bergman? “Don’t be ridiculous,” Ingrid said.

“You do,” Joey said. “Especially, um, around the mouth.”

He reached out and touched her lips with his finger, very gentle. A nice feeling – might even have been electric, if he hadn’t had gloves on.

From Into the Dark.

Welcome Chance Man.

“How long was this going to take? It was getting really cold.” From Ingrid’s interior monologue and in this situation…extremely funny! Isn’t this one of the reasons we love her?

    Good morning all.

Good morning, all. Windy here today, but temps should be better. We may go outside later and plant some beets and lettuce. Right now, we’ll just stay inside and enjoy some coffee.

We looked at the eagles this morning, and it didn’t seem to do anything bad to the computer. They have a 10 min. clip you can click on to see the 2nd hatchling. Third is not expected for a few days. Let’s hope they are kind to that last one! When both were on the nest at the same time, you could see that dad was slightly smaller, and didn’t have the dark line above the eyes.

Totally one of the reasons, B.Stover.

Barb and MagPie: I hope Barb is having the coffee. I’m watching the Eagle cam, have not seen the second chick!! Looking forward to the Eagle moving.

We are having 50 degrees today and breezy.

KirbyT: read your comment from last night. The statistics that they are reading can’t be real. There are two guys somewhere on a computer making it all up.

I just saw both eagle babies! The first born is very perky with his head bobbing around.

    A Sunday to All!

Melanie: Thanks for the updates on the baby eagles – very cute! By the way – that cake from yesterday was sooo good. We can hardly wait for your next birthday party.

B: We loved the Ingrid books. Have you heard anything new about Robbie & her Sherwood pals?

Barb: A Sunday morning Cafe au Lait for Nana. Hey, Mollypop! (and anyone else just waking up – enjoy your day).

Melanie, thank you for the chick update. We watched that clip for 9.39 minutes, which was really about 12, with all the stops. The first 5 minutes was just both mom on nest and dad standing on the side. After he flew off, she got up and stretched her wings, giving a short view of the babies. Your shot is much better.

Bear, Barb loves her coffee, but just has the plain old black stuff. She likes french roast or other full bodied types, and grinds the beans some times.

    Good morning y’all!

We have enjoyed the pics of the eagles. I think we are the only ones who haven’t been to the eaglecam.

Hi Bear. I read somewhere (but cannot now remember where) that PA’s Robbie book will be out in January. Are you (Nana) enjoying your cafe au lait?

Mollypop: “Her cup of nothing.” I like that!

    Hey, Rio and Macy!

For those with Kindles: I don’t know if anyone would be interested but you can get the first volume of Proust’s Remberance of Things Past (In Search of Lost Time), Swan’s Way, for eighty-nine cents at Amazon.

B: Hmm…January – a long time to wait, but I guess that’s why we haven’t heard anything. Nana said to tell you – she loves her morning cafe. Barb Yes! french roast and very strong to jump start the day. MollyPop: Nana’s friend has to drink decaf too. I guess you get used to it.

Siber-H & Rio: Looks like a good day for baseball! I was thinking we can place our bets according to what Bernie is betting on. He should know by now that whatever he bets against will win.

Mom has been sneezing all freaking morning! I think she’s used half a box of tissues. I like when she leaves tissues on the table because I shred them when she leaves the house. Today she is throwing them all in the tall box that I can’t get into.

Mom is making her boss’s homemade mac & cheese recipe. I think she needs some comfort food, me on her lap, kawfee in her “I listed Starbucks as my emergency contact at work” drink bowl, and her tissue box to get those sneezes to stop.

In other news…the lady that is working to sell our house is going to come over to do something called a virtual tour. She is going to post it on their website so people can see what a great house this is.

Melanie: Cool! I don’t think Mattie quite fits in that chair. I watched the video, then went to watch it again to see if they had counted me. They hadn’t. Then I liked it. Then went there again to see if they counted me. They didn’t. Then I tried to sign up for a You tube account for about 5 minutes. I had no success. Still, I look forward to many more videos from you.
Thanks for posting the pictures of chicks. I’ve spent a fair bit of time watching an eagle sitting on the nest. Seems like every time I leave for a minute the eagle stands up and is sitting back down facing a new direction by the time I return.

cute, not as cute as a Newf puppy, but cute.

Macy, I haven’t been to the eagle cam either…too much baseball, I think.

Spirit Dog, It is, indeed, a good day to watch baseball. We are trapped in the house because the wind is blowing 50 to 60 mph…blowing sand, tumbleweeds, and pollen. I pretty much have the baseball tv schedule figured out so I can watch it from noon till bedtime while listening to mom sneeze.

Macy, I can watch both the Rangers and the Rockies games this afternoon by flipping back and forth. How cool is that.

The Huskies won the basketball thingy. They are doing good even if they aren’t Western Huskies.

The sneezing has stopped (for now). Mom is doing laundry, dishes, cooking the mac & cheese, playing on Facebookie, posting here and is up, down, up, down all the dang time. Jeez lady, park it somewhere so I can sleep more than 5 minutes at a time.

Mac and cheese is a big success, although she did use too small a dish and it spilled in the oven and smoked up everything, so all the windows in the house are open to herd out the smoky burned smell. Hack! Gag! Mom posted the recipe on Facebookie in her notes section with all her other recipes, but here it is for you non-FB folks, and adjusted to allow for a bigger baking dish:

    Christine’s Mom’s Macaroni & Cheese

Spray non-stick spray in glass 9X14 baking dish. Heat oven to 350°.

1 lb box of elbow macaroni
4 cups cheddar cheese (don’t use fake stuff, American or Velveeta)
1 stick butter (no fake stuff here either)
    1 cup milk
    ½ cup half and half
    ½ cup breadcrumbs
1 t pepper (okay to use white, but fresh-cracked black worked for me)
    1 t ground mustard

Cook elbow macaroni as directed on box, but stop before completely cooked. (This was cook time minus 4 minutes for me.) Drain macaroni. Do not rinse. Place in glass baking dish.

Put hot pot back on stove; add butter, milk, half and half, and 3 cups cheese. Cook over low heat so butter and cheese is melted. Pour mixture over top of macaroni. Add more milk if there is not enough sauce to come up at least ¾ to the top of the sides of the baking dish.

Top with remaining cheese and breadcrumbs. Cover in foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for additional 10 minutes.

Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.

This is the basic recipe. Taste is somewhat bland, but nice and cheesy with crunchy breadcrumbs on top. You may add red pepper flakes, green pepper, jalapeño pepper, or ham for more spicy or complex flavor.

Melanie, because of the drought and the wind, it isn’t early. The ones in NM are grass and shrub fires rather than forest fires (I don’t know about Colorado) but one of our fires is only 1/4 mile away from a casino and structures.

Hey, y’all! I’m here late today because I had an exciting day. I got to meet my girl’s boyfriend! My girl and her beau were in town for a wedding yesterday, so this afternoon Mom and Dad and my boy and I went to a park and met them! We had a cookout — steak, potato salad, baked beans and French bread with birthday cupcakes for dessert! First event – big gathering at Tupper’s house. This is obvious to have connections vith Royal Air Force. Viat – ve know this makes not the sense, but vait – ve vill tie this together vith other information.
Plunderers are having big argument over vhich to support – Huskies or Bulldogs. This is code very obvious to Natasha – Plunderers are instigating big airplane battle, known as dogfight. They fight about support to Royal Air Force – vhich is vhat Bulldog stands for. Huskies – ve are thinking about Siberia…so this must be Russian Air Force. Only problem vith this theory, ve HAF no air force. Maybe, is doubtful, but just maybe Natasha has wrong interpretation of gathering.
Next big event – Melanie has meeting vith OTAS (Official Tough Assignment Spy) who comes vith “F”…this must be Foreign Minister.
Next big event, Rio and Vookie haf traveled to mountain range of Rockies for big mission. Vas not successful and their cover vas blown by agent who goes by code name Jumbo Tron. They haf lost, but they plan next engagement to vin. They plan to use snake venom somehow in their dastardly plan.
Ve do not think Rio and OTAS are vorking on same mission as OTAS plans to vear red socks, so vill stick out in crowd.
Volfie is very concerned about having argument vith another Plunderer – Natasha quotes “Vords Vith Friends” is on Volfie’s paw.
And now may be time to vork on Supreme Commander B.Stover; she is distracted by return of old paramour named Ovid. (Really? A guy named Ovid is attractive? Hmm)
Many puzzlements vith Plunderers actions this veek. Vill continue to monitor and report.
    Natasha out

Thank you Siber for the compliment.

Last night on Bad Dog they had animals that did amazing things, mostly things they were not supposed to be doing. They showed a Siberian Husky who is an escape artist. She got out of her yard, walked 6 miles to a store where she had never been before, walked in, stole a very large dog bone and left. She was caught on video camera.

She then walked 6 miles back home thru unfamiliar territory and traffic, and no one even knew she was missing. Later when they talked about it on the news and showed the video, her people discovered that it was their dog.

    Good night dahlinks,

Ve also love Nattie, she looks at thinks upside down.

Rangers swept, yea. Rio, when you were watching the game, did you see a tribute to a man who passed away. I don’t know if it was just on our broadcast or not. Anyway, he was a friend of mom and dad’s and they are very sad about losing him. It was a very lovely tribute.

    nitey nite

That’s two thumbs up for Nattie from down here.

B, i used to loooove John Duttine from that show, all those years ago. Sigh.

Rio, do you like Bell Book and Candle, with Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart and Jack Lemmon? – that is such a great film.
