Step Right Up!
“Should we mention that the e-book version of Dog On It, first in the Chet and Bernie series, is on sale this month at Amazon for $2.99?” Spence says.
“Don’t see why not,” says Admin. “Is this a capitalist and mercantalist society or not? Don’t we want to belong?”

Gooood morning everyone! Good news, bad news, old news, new news. The more things change, the more they… Great news about the Storyteller. Frightening news from Macy’s neck of the weeks.
Rio has snow (ho hum). So, whats new?
9:07 am on April 18th, 2013
Good morning HOH and all.
Very bad news from Texas. So sorry to hear that.
Here we have had several innches of rain and more expected today. By the time it ends it will be about 6″ in 2 days. Lots of flooding, roads closed, flights canceled at OHare.
Barb’s sump pump pooped out yesterday, but got it replaced before there was any damage. Our grass seed has washed away again.
9:07 am on April 18th, 2013
Morning, HOH and everyone. The bad news just keeps coming. Macy, we are especially thinking of you today. That explosion was devastating.
Meantime, catching up on last evening’s posts: WOW The Storyteller is doing amazingly well. Everyone except him can fall on our knees in gratitude.
9:09 am on April 18th, 2013
Hi Barb and Maggie. We didnt’t realize the weather was so bad where you are. That is a scary amount of rain! And your poor lawn…sniff.
9:15 am on April 18th, 2013
Yeah, guess our lawn problem is pretty minor. Correction on the amount of rain – some areas have already had 6″ and 3″ more expected. Homes are flooding, schools have closed.
9:19 am on April 18th, 2013
I loved that picture of Leonard. I see peace and serenity in his face.
9:25 am on April 18th, 2013
Good morning all.
9:29 am on April 18th, 2013
Josh who is a big hulk of a guy has an abundance of nature loving genes. This morning he said he was late leaving for work because he had to “save the worms”. He picks up worms that have beached themselves on his concrete driveway. He said he “couldn’t save them all but saved as many as he could”. What a guy!
9:31 am on April 18th, 2013
Sorry folks (furry and non), I will not be falling to my knees. I would be encased in loving Newfy drool and not be able to get up.
Today our woodland serenity is being disturbed by low flying planes.
Is there a fire? No.
Is someone lost? No.
It is the Spring ritual of our local badge people searching for some sort of patches. The leaves are not yet out and cultivation has begun.
9:35 am on April 18th, 2013
Barb will be joining Melanie in NOT falling to her knees. Still our good thoughts will be going out to Leonard. He looks maaavelous. Amalia must be in the clouds with happiness.
9:39 am on April 18th, 2013
MollysMom, We have to agree with you about the Storyteller’s picture. He really does look so peaceful and serene…and happy.
The flowers look great too. We had to get on our iPaw to see the picture without tilting our heads. It is sideways on Mom’s big computer.
9:41 am on April 18th, 2013
Some local communities are declaring a state of emergency, people are told to stay home, and some folks are evacuating their homes. Last year drought here, this year flooding. And climate change continues!
10:05 am on April 18th, 2013
Nighty Noodle to LizF.
Yeeks!
Explosions and flooding and snow, oh my!
I am planting sunflowers today (inside).
L&G: Leonard looks 10 years younger behind those beautiful flowers and with the pain erased from his handsome face. Wow.
10:08 am on April 18th, 2013
I received a new translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy by Clive James. I’ve been reading it to Charlie who really enjoys it. Next we have to compare two other translations–by John Ciardi and Dorothy Sayers. Charlie will let me know which he likes best.
Love the picture of Leonard.
10:42 am on April 18th, 2013
The Boston Bruins played last night.
There was a moment of silence. Then a slide show of the First Responders and Volunteers with the song “Home” by Philip Phillips.
The fans took over our National Anthem.
Beautiful . .

Melanie, we loved that video. We watched it after you put it on FB. Thanks. It really brought tears to Mom’s eyes.
Bee: ha ha ha ha ! You and Charlie are cracking us up!
11:18 am on April 18th, 2013
Who is Charlie? ha ha ha
11:22 am on April 18th, 2013
Good morning all.
Luckily, the death toll from last night is much smaller than reported. However, firefighters were already on scene fighting a fire when the place blew up, and several are still unaccounted for. So glad dad is out of that business.
Looking good, Leonard!
11:29 am on April 18th, 2013
B: Comparison is always a good exercise. Keeps those grey cells functional!
Barb and Melanie: I could fall on my knees, but as the HOH knows, it would take 2 men and an ox to get me back up 🙁
11:45 am on April 18th, 2013
Our condolences to our neighbors in Texas.
Barb, Is a sump pump to pump water out of the basement? There aren’t many houses with basements where I live and water in them would never be a problem here.
Rio, Is the weather up there going to allow for the Rockies game this afternoon?
11:52 am on April 18th, 2013
Melanie: The video brought tears to my eyes…and I never cry.
Barb: Charlie is one of the members of the Snowhook team.
11:55 am on April 18th, 2013
The video from the Boston hockey game also has Buffalo Sibers in it. Boston is in the black shirts and Sibers in the white. There were lots of pictures in our newspaper this morning.
12:19 pm on April 18th, 2013
The Buffalo Sibers did win the game. They are no longer in last place.
12:20 pm on April 18th, 2013
Macy: We just heard the news from last night. Sending prayers for all affected by the tragedy.
B&M: O’Hare closed? That must be some rainstorm. Good to hear you got the sump pump replaced before any damage was done.
B: Sounds like Charlie is a good assistant. And with those ears he knows how to listen.
Melanie: Going to watch the video now.

The Storyteller’s Smile is like A Ray of Sunshine on a Cloudy Day.
12:55 pm on April 18th, 2013
Hope this works. Someone had this on Facebook.
12:57 pm on April 18th, 2013
B: That Photo is Great. Love it!
12:58 pm on April 18th, 2013
OHare may be totally closed, but we know 400-500 flights have been postponed.
Siber, Sump pumps are very common here. Most homes with a basement have them installed. The pit is below the basement floor, usually in a corner. The hole is about 2 feet across and maybe 2-3 feet deep. Then a pump and float are installed with a pvc pipe to pump the water back out to the yard. There is a pipe on the side that allows the water to come in. The point is to keep the water from ever getting on the basement floor.
1:00 pm on April 18th, 2013
Baby groundhogs were out romping in the grass. After awhile they got called to come in for their Excavation Training class.
1:08 pm on April 18th, 2013
Mollys Mom: Lol. After the Punxsutawney Phil fiasco of earlier this year, classes in weather prediction may be next on the curriculum.
1:11 pm on April 18th, 2013
Bee, We thought maybe Charlie was a two legged that we had missed hearing about.
The flooding situation is getting so bad that they didn’t even cut over to the Today Show this morning. They are saying this will be one of top five floods in Lake County history. Chain Of Lakes area has about 500 homes flooded so far. There was a sink hole that opened up and swallowed several cars. No people killed. Rain is still coming down.
1:19 pm on April 18th, 2013
I saw the picture on Facebook and thoght it was a joke. Nooooo. Broken main!
When we lived up there many, many, many years ago, the Dupage River flooded. That was a rare event. More flooding now.
Mattie went on Facebook today and saw Jem. She is now dreaming of running next to Jem on the trail. Or sharing his truck dog box. No running then.
1:32 pm on April 18th, 2013
Thanks Barb, That is interesting and I didn’t know about the pits in the basements.
1:35 pm on April 18th, 2013
B.Stover: The “Branch Manager” and his assistant gave me a chuckle.
Barb&Maggie: “Climate Chaos”, as a friend of Dads calls the weather reports around the world.
1:38 pm on April 18th, 2013
Concern that the sink hole will get bigger and swallow surrounding homes. It looks like something out of one of those disaster movies.
The Dupage River is one of 3 that runs thru the suburbs, all of which are out of their banks. One main expressway has now been closed. People keep trying to drive thru the water and then getting stranded. Where are their brains?
1:54 pm on April 18th, 2013
B&M: In situations like this people forget they have one…everything switches to panic mode.
Riö! Where are you? Maggie has rain…you have snow.
Please check your SDD.
Hope all under the quilt are feeling better today and Rose, that includes you.
1:56 pm on April 18th, 2013
Greetings all – been a crazy busy time, and we are just now catching up.
Macy – yikes! Very frightening things, but we are relieved that not as many lives lost as first thought – but even one is too many.
Barb – got water wings?
Mama had to go to see the human v e t this morning as her knee has been a real pain in the leg for a while now. Doctor said it’s arthritis. MAma said no it’s not. Doctor said, I”ll prove it with x-rays. Mama said, go for it – you’re wrong.
X-rays taken. Doctor scratches head. More x-rays taken. Doctor admits it is not arthritis. Hmmm. Notices healing scar on Mama’s arm and asks about it. She mentions the bum flipper and the surgery. And mentions her underlying health issue that caused it. Doctor says that is very likely the cause of her knee problem too – and then asks if Mama has had any unusual stress in her life lately. hahahahhahahahhahahahahahaha!
So, now Mama has had an injunction or something like that – and a supply of feel-better-in-no-time, bring-on-the-dancing-giraffes pills. But she won’t be taking those until AFTER she gets home from visiting the Storyteller.
She says it is all from falling on her knees in thanks, so it’s just the way it is, and it’s nothing that an eggroll or two won’t fix right up.
2:03 pm on April 18th, 2013
T&G: And, lobster coming up in a few…months that is…something to look forward to!
3:11 pm on April 18th, 2013
Sink holes in IL? Branch managers? Feel good pills? It just gets crazier and crazier. Mom remembers floods in the upper midwest about 20 years ago that almost made a 6th great lake. Does anyone else?
3:20 pm on April 18th, 2013
Herd of Hounds: Is that more than 2? What does the 0 after the 2 mean? What year was it?
3:23 pm on April 18th, 2013
HOH, Mom wasn’t there, but she remembers seeing it on CNN. Mom is like Bernie…she was in awe at the sight of all that water.
3:24 pm on April 18th, 2013
Could the year have been 1994?
3:28 pm on April 18th, 2013
Siber-H: Now you’re just showing off!
3:36 pm on April 18th, 2013
Story time with B—I may never leave.
B is sweet in my ears and I’m sweet on B.
3:43 pm on April 18th, 2013
Siber-H: Can’t remember back that far…that may have been the year I was born.
3:46 pm on April 18th, 2013
Bear, Mom has been in NM a long time so all that water on tv made a big impression on her.
Spence knew what he was doing when he created that same personality trait in Bernie. That fascination with water does exist some desert dwellers.
Not me, of course.
4:06 pm on April 18th, 2013
Charlie is making me laugh.
There is an article in the current New Yorker on the Iditarod titled “The White Wall.” I haven’t read it yet.
4:09 pm on April 18th, 2013
94 is possible. Mom was driving from San Diego to MN for a wedding. She doesn’t remember exact date, just LOTS of water
4:24 pm on April 18th, 2013
Thanks Stover, We know someone that gets The New Yorker, so we will borrow it from her.
4:30 pm on April 18th, 2013
We saw that picture of the sinkhole in the middle of a street in Chicago. It was amazing looking, just like a sci-fi movie. Mom remembers taht big flood year, but none of us were born yet.
4:30 pm on April 18th, 2013
Interesting article I just read:
http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/04/18/177746969/bacteria-on-dog-lovers-skin-reveal-their-affection?ft=1&f=1007
4:52 pm on April 18th, 2013
Thanks Rose, That is an interesting article. Mom says she has never been worried about dog germs. The article confirms her beliefs.
4:55 pm on April 18th, 2013
Craps!…I’ve spent all day teaching Beau how to play Craps…sniff!…He thought he knew the game, but he was doing it all wrong. For starters he did not know it was played with dice…grunt!
5:05 pm on April 18th, 2013
Wose: That is very interesting.
Just as we suspected…the members of the nation within have Healing Licks.
Rio and Beau…G a m b o l i n g…Gasp!
5:15 pm on April 18th, 2013
Barb says she is happy to share my germs.
Barb used to work with a goofy gal who insisted on wiping her tiny little 8 lb dog’s feet and bottom every time she came in from outside. How many germs could she be bringing in?
5:16 pm on April 18th, 2013
Rio – we thought that Beau was playing Craps by himself the other day – until he got those anti-bio thingies
5:18 pm on April 18th, 2013
Guess what. Guess what. Guess what.

We went on an adventure today!!
5:18 pm on April 18th, 2013
Charlie, are you watching the birds in B.Stover’s garden. Make sure you chase away the raptor.
I love what you are writing and will have to comment later.
Just back for the v e t ‘ s AGAIN. Gracie’s good leg swelled up last night and felt hot. By the time we could get to the you know what she could hardly limp.
She has a small puncture (already healed). The Pack loves swimming in a small pond which appears to be an experiment in algae growth. We think she got infected from that.
Anti-biotics for my little girl. She should be tip-top in short form.
5:19 pm on April 18th, 2013
Did Gilly like seeing her Da? wiping tear from eye.
5:29 pm on April 18th, 2013
Those look like a couple of happy girls. Not to mention Leonard!
5:37 pm on April 18th, 2013
Mom always says that people heal better with their own germs around. We’ve never seen a germ so we don’t know but ya’ll see, Rose and Golinka are right!
5:45 pm on April 18th, 2013
Craps has the best odds for the player compared with any other game…if I remember correctly.
6:06 pm on April 18th, 2013
Love the picture of T&G and Leonard.
6:45 pm on April 18th, 2013
I’m with Beau. I had no idea craps was a card game. An item of note youse all might find useful if you ever visit B’s house—her indoor plants do not serve the same purpose for me as outdoor plants. I was just about to mark ‘dibs’ on a nice house plant when B informed me of the difference.
6:48 pm on April 18th, 2013
The Storyteller has his own personal Therapy Dawgs!
7:00 pm on April 18th, 2013
Melanie: Hope Gracie’s paw gets better pronto. That nasty algae stuff is not recommended for wading.
Tenzing: Crapola could be your new game of choice. We all know how you fare at (pokher) cards.
(Oh, oh…we are getting on dangerous ground here with all these Gamboling terms flying about…I just saw the Moderator walk by.)
7:26 pm on April 18th, 2013
Toys!…We each got a new toy today!…Woooo!….Just the right size. Beau has been playing non-stop with his ever since he got it. My friend is hoping he does not chew the tail or the nose off of it right away…grunt!…I took mine and stashed it with all my other prize possessions down in the covers of my warm soft bed. Beau better not even think of looking at it by golly…sniff!
7:40 pm on April 18th, 2013
Just saw the new Hunger Games Movie Trailer…Catching Fire. It Looks really Good, but doesn’t come out until November 22nd.
Even I know that is a Long Time away.
7:42 pm on April 18th, 2013
Craps is played with dice not cards.
Charlie learns quickly.
7:43 pm on April 18th, 2013
The hobbit is doing fine in Sin City. Tons of people handing out flyers and brochures but I am ignored. They seem to target males and couples. Also I am striding along zipping through people. So I guess it looks like I know what I am doing.
Could not believe all the coat wearers yesterday and this morning. Everyone talking about Vegas having a cold spell. Yesterday was 60 and today it got up to 70 in the afternoon. I went out and bought a 50 sunscreen for protection. I already have a slight burn
Last night I saw a Cirque Du Soleil show, tonight I see The Jersey Boys. No plans as yet for tomorrow. Hmmm maybe I should have picked up some of those flyers and brochures tossed on the sidewalk
7:46 pm on April 18th, 2013
A Bible-quoting pug playing craps? Rio is definitely a corrupting influence. Beau should be wary of Rio’s teaching anyway…is there a way to cheat at craps?
7:53 pm on April 18th, 2013
CHobbit: I think you’ll enjoy Jersey Boys. Great show!
8:03 pm on April 18th, 2013
Time to watch a movie. Night all. G’day, Liz.
8:03 pm on April 18th, 2013
I’m learning things from B. Stover haw and gee.
8:06 pm on April 18th, 2013
CHarris: The dice could be loaded.
8:12 pm on April 18th, 2013
Loaded! You better by point those dice at anyone. That is the first rule of dice safety.
8:36 pm on April 18th, 2013
Dice!…Beau thinks the dice are for chewing on…sniff!…He is hopeless at this stuff…grunt!
Walk!…Well, the sun is finally out so someone said we had to go for our long over-due walk….grump!…All of our pee-mail has been covered up with snow. What the hell!…wheeze!
8:43 pm on April 18th, 2013
Sneeze!….For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. – 1 Timothy 6:10…honk!…Gambooling with the Craps is not for me…sneeze!
8:44 pm on April 18th, 2013
I thougt dice ws something you hang from your rear view mirror.
Grace is out of it. I think those biotics are getting antied.
I on the other hand have my left paw up on a pillow in my nice warm bed. I am not watching “The Hound Of The Baskervilles” though. I thought my howls might wake up the Pack.
8:45 pm on April 18th, 2013
Grump!…There is no Rockies baseball on tonight…grumble!…What the Hell again!
8:53 pm on April 18th, 2013
This little fellow won’t let anyone near him. He won’t leave the mattress. This is from the explosion last night.

8:54 pm on April 18th, 2013
CHobbit!….I sure wish I was in Las Vegas with you girl!…snort!…I’d be playing blackjack, doubling-down and doing shots of beer…wooooWeeee!…I sure hope you sit at a table before you leave that town…snorkel!
8:56 pm on April 18th, 2013
Moderator!….Bear hath brought the wrath of the Moderator down on us with all his gamboling talk…grunt!…Now my Vegas comment to CHobbit is in Moderation. Time 8:54pm..sniff!
Macy!…I sure hope his friend is not under that mattress…wuffle!
8:58 pm on April 18th, 2013
Melanie – are you becoming a late nighter?
We are both exhausted from our hard day of cheering up our Daddy -and all the nurses, and CNA’s and orderlies and other patients and food service people…..
Gilly’s “tail” was wiggling so hard, we thought she was going to be jet propelled right down the hall. She was very good the whole time…right up until someone went by pulling an oxygen tank. Gilly does NOT approve of doggies on leashes, rollerboard suitcases, or any other thing that is pulled along by a handle. We had to let her see that it was not a long upright doggie on a leash.
Mama is heading off to bed herself. For some reason, she says she is just wiped out. We have no idea why – WE did all the work.
9:01 pm on April 18th, 2013
Umm T&G? It’s only 9 pm. Tad tired, eh?
I am going to read . My paw likes the pillow.

Surely the area was checked when the dog was seen staying there?
CHobbit, sounds like you are having fun. Keep it up.
T&G: Storyteller looks better for ya’lls visit. Tell the mama to get good rest.
Rio & Beau: whatever ya’ll do or play, don’t eat the dice!
We’re going nighty night since the baby bear here thinks it is good to play at 4:30a.m. then go back to sleep.
9:10 pm on April 18th, 2013
Golinka!…You take care of yourself, you hear!…snort!…We do not want you getting down. You have Gramps, Storyteller and those corgis to look after…sniff!…Kats are on their own…heh!

Macy I sure hope they can help that little doggie. sniff. I am worried about him.
9:19 pm on April 18th, 2013

9:26 pm on April 18th, 2013
T&G: I’m sure you cheered the Storyteller up no end.
MacyMinPin: Awww.
I’m so confused…is it Christmas time? There is almost a foot of new snow out there.
Off to bed I go.
G’day to those down under.

Charlie!…It seems like the little guy is protecting something so my first assumption is well, the worst…sniff!…You can think it is his toys or chewies he is guarding if it makes you feel better…wuffle!…I sure hope they can coax him away for some water and grub though.
9:33 pm on April 18th, 2013
Rio, The Rockies game was played this afternoon but it wasn’t on tv. I followed it on the internet.

6:42 am on April 19th, 2013
CHobbit: The Prof, who wasn’t even a big 4 Seasons fan, loved it! I am a fan, and it was just terrific! Right, now, I am trying to get tickets for MOTOWN . Love all that music!
6:46 am on April 19th, 2013
Belle Starr: I will wait for you. We can both get under my Wizard of Oz quilt, and snuggle together. I love giving tummies. I don’t want to have to hide you in my desk at work, so can you blur by around 6?

This news is simply amazing. Mom has a vacation day today, but now she is glued to the t.v.
