Step Right Up!

“We’re announcing a sale?” says Spence.

“Well, not us, more like Amazon,” says Admin.

“Is this something we’re good at?”

“Stop being such a snob. Sales are as American as fill in the blank.”

“Okay – then you do it.”

“Here’s the Father’s Day deal,” Admin says. “The two book ebook boxed set of Dog On It and Thereby Hangs A Tail will be on sale at Amazon starting this weekend and continuing through July 4.  The number? $17.99, which is 18% discount off regular pricing.”

“We’re talking a virtual box?” says Spence.

“Your point?”

    Good Morning B!

    Greetings to All!

I’m a Nook person, so I’ve already ordered my virtual box! I have the series in real, hardcover versions, but just had to have them in my permanent virtual collection!

Hot as Hades here in New York…Needless to say if anyone needs to scour a pot, Brillo is here!!!

Hi Rose. Since I’m in ac more than outside these past few days (it was in the 90s yesterday and is 75 already), my hair has gone to fuzz rather than corkscrews.

I like the title of today’s blog post. Can’t you just see Admin, the adroit huckster (love that word), standing in front of a virtual Amazon gathering an audience of curious readers while Spence writhes (love that word also) in embarrassment?

Morning Rose and B.Stover! Will also be VERY hot here today, but the front is coming through tonight, Thank Dog. Just hope the severe weather they are calling for is not as severe as the last time.

Went off last night without goodbye, thunderstorm came through and I shut off the computer. So B. Stover, your name was on the list. I have your picture. I have “tweaked” it and boy does it look good. I can’t wait to get these to Liz so I can start on the Auction pics. Then I won’t drool as much.

Two pictures for you this morning. The first is a satellite photo of the AZ fire showing the smoke into NM and continuing over to Staff.

The next one is of the Hastings fire near Fairbanks, Alaska. It’s only 8% contained.

Good Morning all – life just isn’t fair – we wanted to spend the day chatting with the Plunderers, but instead we had to go to work and get groceries, and run errands all day. Then when we finally got a chance to sit and compute, there was a HUGE thunderstorm overhead. We were all under the bed together – me and Gilly,m Basil and Sage and Mama too.
But catching up, we did want to kick in to the aution ideas.
Rio – have you checked out ebays formats and wording? They might help in your decisions. Also, we have donated to silent auctions before, and the way they usually do it is to have a estimated retail value in the artists/owner’s description. The item title should actually be the first thing in the listing. There is a Starting or Opening Bid number, and a Bid Increment number.
So, in your example, it might look like this:

    Title: Spanish Fan.

ITEM #: To be added by Rebecca

Donated By: Anonymous Or Name of Donor.

Description: A work made entirely out of paper with a little added bling using a technique called ‘quilling’. The frame is a shadow box type frame. Suggested retail value is $….

    Size: 15” x 12” x 1 ½” deep.

    Opening Bid: $25.00

    Bid Increments: min. $2.50

Just suggestions – we will follow whatever form you decide.
Gotta go now – the Crzy Lady needs Mama…

Rio: Your format is fine with us. Other suggestions don’t seem that much different from what you originally proposed.

  11. Riö - The Evil Pug
    10:01 am on June 9th, 2011

Retail!….Now that I think about it, I don’t care for putting the estimated retail value in the description. This might hinder some bidding….snort!

  12. B.Stover
    10:20 am on June 9th, 2011

This is me as editor rewriting the description of Rio’s beautiful auction item. I’m not making any suggestions about format because the only auctions I’ve ever participated in–years ago–were Standardbred Horse auctions.

Description: A work made entirely out of paper using a technique called “quilling.” Some bling has been added. It is mounted in a shadow box frame.

  13. Riö - The Evil Pug
    10:40 am on June 9th, 2011

Stover!…Thanks, I will use your description for my friends Project…chuffle!…I think she will like that alot more than what I wrote up for her…heh!

Description!… This is very important because we here can discuss it between ourselves, but if we have “other” guys who see it for the first time during the actual action, it needs to be very clear as to what is what….sniff!…Especially the bidding part.

Rules!….Although, I will be writing up a set of Rules that Rebeccer will be posting at the top of the Auction Page before the Items will be displayed. So that is where I can describe the Bidding bits in more detail….snort!

    11:54 am on June 9th, 2011

Hi everyone. Mollypop’s mom, your hair is looking great.

We have been without a computer since 9:00 last night. Big storm cam up in a second, 60 mph straigth line winds. We thought the French doors were going to blow in, so put a chair in front of the handle and headed for the basement. All the patio furniture blew out into the yard, branches are all over. One would have smashed the chicken coop, but landed in the chicken yard instead. Power went out briefly. In other words, SCARY! Today, dark and dreary and in the low 70’s.

Barb is getting ready to leave tomorrow morning for St. Louis. The baby shower for the Promised Child is Saturday. Barb’s sister has her own nursery, with baby/child book library and play center at her home. She finished a room in her lower level for this. I wonder if Barb’s niece will be allowed to touch her baby after it is born, or if Mimi Sally is going to take over completely.

Thanks for the photos, Melanie. That is a narrower plume of smoke than I would have guessed. The smoke was terrible last night, but much better today. They say it will just “come and go” over us.
Yikes, the fire in Alaska is either crowning and/or blowing up. It looks like a blowup. Mom says she has seen all that different fire behavior while living in NM. It is a totally awesome sight, but not good.

All of you in that humid heat, hang on because a cold front is suppose to be on its way.

That is a great picture of Mollypop’s mom!

I understand the auction rules so you guys are doing a good job of explaining them.

Why Miz Maggie, you must have been shakin in your little ole pawprints with that nasty storm. So far the old homestead here hasn’t been plagued with fire, flood, winds or storms.
So, Rio and Siber, ifn y’all need a place to come while weather troubles pass you by, come on by and set on the porch for a while. Rio, you packed your surfboard, but did you pack your harmonica? I can throw together a pot of greens and hamhocks, and we can sit back with my ole grandad, if you know what I mean.

  25. Alice M. Johnson
    1:32 pm on June 9th, 2011

Miz Alice – I’d be right proud to invite you. Now you and Brother Rio gotta act right – old grandad or not.
You bring along that banjo – Orange Blossom Special is one of my all time favorite tunes.
Onliest problem, how can I dance with you if you are playing the banjo?

Dear Mr. Redbone, you make that sound wonderful. I hope you don’t mind that I’m not reading that to The Pack. They would want to crash the party. Since the van is having the rear end replaced that would mean using the Subaru Outback. You might be able to fit a mess of sled dogs in one, but nine Newfs just won’t work.

If you have mailed your auction picture to me, and have not received it back, forgive me, I lost your email. Darn things are slippery. Also three people use this email account. Snicker.

So send them back to me. Thanks.

    MP’s Mom: You look great.

I have straighten my hair with the Brazilian method which last a long time, but I think it’s now time for a tune-up…

Redbone: Dancing would be no problem, the Prof plays a mean guitar AND banjo. Would you welcome us New Yorkers?

Whoops, that last part is not to Mr. Redbone.

Also, hot as hades here. I thought I’d be clever and make a cold potato and leek soup. Note to self: Next time do the cooking in the morning.

Mr. Redbone Sir, that is a mighty nice offer. We love soul food of any kind. We even have some beet greens growing in the garden if you need some. We can do some dancin or howlin, but have to pass on the bourbon, I’m afraid.

Barb loved Ol’GrandDad, or any kind of bourbon for that matter, and red wine, too. She just liked to have more than one. So now she doesn’t have any, and really doesn’t miss it. After her surgery last November, she switch to juice cocktails in the evening. Life is good.

Had a heck of a storm. Might have to shut down again if another pops up.

I was reading Nevada Barr’s Borderline.
    Didn’t want to stop.

Is that her real name? Fits with the types of mysteries she writes.

    Errand day tomorrow.

Dan went back to the doc. The doc is pleased because it’s healing from the inside out. This is good because it’s still nasty looking on the outside.

Mostly the doc was concerned about Zoë’s head. He kept wanting to see it. She got him doing Dan instead. Nice doc, but he’s a surgeon, and she didn’t want brain surgery!

Hey, y’all! We don’t have anything to download a virtual boxed set onto, so I’m afraid we’ll have to take a pass. It’s a shame, because Mom does so love a sale. Dad always gives her grief about how she “spends money to save money.” She prefers to think of it as being an astute buyer!

We posted earlier, but don’t see it, and not sure our computer is totally back in order. Problems all day here and at work because of the storm last night. We heard that they measured winds at 80 mph in a town about 20 miles from here.

As we attempted to say before, we are leaving early tomorrow morning, returning Sunday night. We got Catty’s recipes today, so when we get back we will do the final download.

Hope you all have a safe, storm free, fire and wind free, happy weekend.

Is that what you call a triple Dawson? I think I saw that in the Olympics once in pair’s figure skating. Wookie

Dawson – ve give you a 9.5 for triple.
Vould have given you 10, but you misspell C.R.A.P.O.L.A
    Silly girl.

    Dawson,
I am on the floor laughing so loud I scared Abbie away. A triple Dawson followed by a double Dawson. Rio will be sorry he went to bed.

You know it is hard to type correctly while laughing.

Oh Natasha! You are right. I will have to lower my score.

I was wondering what a carpola was. A car pool for fish?

Wookie, I am glad you were here to see the Triple/Double. They are very rare. I wonder if we will ever see one again. One for the record books for sure.

Whew! Well that was a great laugh and really good for me I can tell.

    Thanks Dawson!

It is very obvious to me that Rio did not refresh, read and then post. He would not have missed the triple/double if he had.

You know Dawson, you did a triple a double and then a single. You only need a homerun to “hit for the cycle”

    http://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/feats16b.shtml

I think a homerun would be hard on the blog. I think we would lable a quadruple Dawson a home run though. You still have time.

What the h*** is going on?

  95. Natasha the Nefarious Borzoi

Alice – please do not put the temptation in front of Dawson to hit home run. Ve have seen the extent she vill go to just to get to party – by helicopter, garbage truck – who knows vhat else.
If she goes for home run of post – entire blog could explode!

Speaking of which, the Rockies just beat the Dodgers, 9 – 7. On behalf of my friends Rio and Siber-H — woo! woo! woo! (That’s a triple woo if anyone is in doubt). Wookie

Alice: I did receive the info for your auction items. No need to send in a word document, email text is fine as I will format and standardize as I build the auction page. I love the hot pads and kat bag! Thanks!

AJ is gone again. The house is quiet except for the buzz of mosquitoes.

Dawson: speaking of mosquitoes, I know your pain. They are worse in the house than they are outside. I can’t figure out how they’re getting in. I look like I have acne with all the little bumps on my face including three on one of my eyelids. Grrr. Dawson—your triple play made me laugh.

Mr. Redbone: Would a sled dog be welcome to join the fun on your porch?

    Thanks Bella,w
The other two are on their way.

You know Carpola might just be the right name for the new cat food. Maybe. Maybe not. I think what it sounds like is lousy cat food. 😉

I just read that the search for Melanie, the missing musher was called off today. This is disheartening. Knowing what my existence was like when W.L. was missing, I understand their agony. I’m going to see if I can help in someway for the private search her loved ones are coordinating.

I can understand why AJ worries about you when he is gone. You take care Rebecca. We worry about you too, when you are alone.

Oh, and Hi there Liz! I had a long nap this afternoon and am still up. Although Alice is nagging Staff to get to bed, so I think I will follow her.

    Night (and Morning) all.

Afternoon Abbie, goodnight Abbie! You’re right, Carpola sounds like lousy cat food. Maybe Carpolicious would be better!

Poor musher Melanie. Who’s looking after her dogs?

  103. Snowhook Bella
    3:21 am on June 10th, 2011

Liz: As I understand that Melanie’s friends are looking after her dogs. I am grateful for their kindness and even though I don’t know them wouldn’t expect anything less.

B Stover: An ipad? I’m jealous.
