Pop Quiz! Shudder . . As soon as my brain would hear THAT, any knowledge in my head froze and refused to appear. Hmmm . . Maybe that was why I enjoyed giving them when I was a teacher. Payback time!

Good morning All. The cold front is trying to move through. Thunderstorms and showers for today. In between those times, I will be vacuuming the pool. About time to close it.

Congratulations to the person who won the Pop Qiuz. You look very happy.

Gooood morning, everyone! Guess Annie was right, “The sun will come up, tomorrow”. Looks like a good time was had in KY. Congrats. We here are going to put one paw in front of the other today and continue. We will probably climb under the quilt for a bit and lurk. We’ll keep Darah off the ipaw until later. Looking for boomers and showers here, too, but close to 90 ๐Ÿ™

Yesterday’s temperatures broke all records here in Seattle. What a glorious summer we’ve had! Can autumn be far behind? Who said that? I want the balminess to continue right through October.
Heading due south later today…returning much later on Friday after meeting someone very special…get that passport out. WhoooHooo!!!

Newbies, I’m a cross-eyed Siamese bluepoint cat who is better at lurking than posting. Welcome all and thanks to everyone who supported Snowhook’s auction. Let’s keep doing it ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for the birthday wishes for Barb, both here and on F.B. Started celebrating with Josh, Jess and the kids last night at a little Italian restaurant in town. Sort of non-descript from the outside, but what a wonderful surprise inside. All pastas were homemade and the food was outstanding.

Now Kelly is coming for lunch, and bringing our houseguest, LuLu. Another lunch or dinner this weekend with Kelly’s family and Shannon. Might as well make the most of turning even older!

    Happy B-day Barb, here too.

Somebody look as mom’s post from late last night to see if you have any advice.

Grrrr the yard guys came again today. They were only supposed to come once, last week. I REALLY hope that check doesn’t bounce before dad can transfer the funds. It has just been too dam hot for him to mow. I barked and barked to tell mom to get up and stop them, but all I got for my trouble was yelled at. Right now everybody but me and Holly are barking their heads off at the weed wackers. Mom is considering dog stew for dinner.

Happy Birthday, Barb!! Enjoy the extra days celebrating.

Oooh, Macy’s Mom!!! Come north to Alaska with the rest of us!!! Mom doesn’t know how to redeem miles, but I’m sure others can help you out. Mom and Dad just had to pay, pay, pay!!!

Newbies, I am a small, rotund yellow tabby who until just a few weeks ago posted with my brother, Gus, who recently crossed the rainbow bridge. We have been on the blog almost from the beginning (but after Staff and Debbie LM and possibly Prof B.) Mom is not as creative or as knowledgeable as many on this blog, but no one holds it against her. She and Dad are part of the Plunderer group going North to Alaska to see the Snowhook team start the Iditarod.

Mom has not had the great fortune of retiring yet, so she often won’t let me on the computer until late at night. Sometimes, I don’t post, but I always read and love to find out what is going on with everyone else. We live in the Houston area of Texas where we have 2 seasons—Summer and Christmas!! It is always hot.

Oh, and Mom is involved in cat rescue so I have a lot of 4 legged brothers and sisters. She really wants a dog, too, but Dad says no.

Fingers and paws crossed for C. Hobbit on her offer. One thing we learned after a LONG time on the market, is it is better to try to work with an existing offer if at all possible.

Macy, don’t know much about redeeming miles, but believe you have to use them with the airling where they have accumulated. Is that right? Barb has some friends in Kentucky who are offering her a free airline ticket to come visit them. She has to use Southwest Airlines, since that is where the guy has accumulated his miles.

HOH: I have no doubt those square feathers are helping him fly free on the other side of the Bridge. Tenzing is waiting for you under the quilt. He has snacks. Today’s menu is Slim Jims.

Macy: I only know how to use my frequent flyer miles. I log into my account and then when I book a flight it gives me the option to pay wiht a credit card or use miles. I don’t know if this helps much or not, but what I do know is Yeep! A Min-Pin coming north to Alaska!

I’m waiting to board the plane for my third stop this week. It will be another very long day. AJ hit the road yesterday to pick up the rest of the dogs who have been working summer jobs. We should return home around the same time. I can’t wait. In the mean time a stray two-legged who quite literally showed up on our door step last winter—a story for another time—is helping us with the dogs. I call him Dog Driver Nick.

Rose, I am on high ground and my dog park is on even higher ground. I don’t know about Rio and the farm where he is vacationing. We have been watching the news about the flooding in Colorado. I don’t have anything to worry about except getting wet when I go outside. Mom told me to stop griping about that. I will not.

HOH: Okay. Actually there’s an example of alliteration that I love from one of the Harry Potter films, Goblet of Fire. Two other schools are visiting Hogwarts and Prof. McGonagall tells the Hogwarts students that she doesn’t want them “behaving like a babbling, bumbling, band of baboons.” Fred and George try saying it five times faster.

Hey, the quiz brings something to mind that’s bugging me as a continuity geek.

OK, in all the books, Chet seems to know a lot about “the Leda days”, implying that he was around before the divorce, when Charlie was even younger than he is now. But! In “A Cat Was Involved”, Leda was already gone, and taken all her stuff with her.

So was there a reconciliation? Did Chet just hear about “the Leda days”? Did Spence make a continuity booboo? Or should I just kinda not worry about it?

HRH B: Yes have read all Potters 5-6 times. Mom’s idea was that it empowered children. They are some of the best literature for youngsters ever!. Thought we saw you say you hadn’t read ’em sorry. Great literature endures through the ages…Shakespeare…Lewis Carroll…Wizard of Oz…C.S. Lewis…

  41. B. Stover

  42. Buddy and Leno

We love the Potter books! I have them all in multiple formats (audio, Jim Dale is fantastic, braille, and the first four in print, even though I can’t read those…)

Book signing? Yeah, the chances that there would be one of those in beautiful and hysterical Erie, PA are pretty slim I reckon. Someone will have to ask on my behalf. Of course, the other issue is…how old is Chet, exactly? I choose to believe he has been blessed with unusually long life. There ya go.

  58. Barb & Maggie
    6:06 pm on September 12th, 2013

Chet is sort of like Tara in the Andy Carpenter books, who will never age beyone 7. Artistic license.

Well, Barb has a training question for you. LuLu has been here several hours. She is sweet and a love, but she has periods of puppy craziness. She zoooms in circles and leaps at me and gets totally out of control. Also was running laps in the house – living room – dining room, then leaping on the ottoman on to the sofa and back to the living room.. I was getting a little stressed after awhile and Barb grabbed her and made her settle down. Now she is conked out on the sofa, sleeping like a baby.

We can deal with all that, but when Jack and Lyla came over to see her, she jumped at their faces and nipped. Excited play, but upset the kids, of course. How do we handle this and stop it before it gets out of hand? She probably has not had much training, and this behavior might be why she got dumped.

  59. O'Howlers
    6:13 pm on September 12th, 2013

We think LuLu is just exhibiting normal puppy behavior that she was not able to exhibit prior to this. If the kids are scared of her, can you put her in a crate just while they are there? We don’t think she should have stern reprimands just yet, while she is trying to get over the horrer she went thru. If you can calm her down, or hold her for Jack and Lyla to pet, that would be good.
Then again, what do we know? We completely spoiled Kat! ๐Ÿ™‚

Flood!…Wouldn’t you know it. The one time Spencer decides to come to my state, we have a “100 Year Flood”. I bet he won’t soon forget this soggy trip..sniff!…Only happens once every 100 years, they say….grunt!…Pepper and I have been watching the news and it is bad. But we are not in the flood zone out here on the farm…sniff!…It has been raining and wet, but nothing like on the front range….wheeze!

It is usually very green….grunt!… He sent me a note saying it is a little cooler and more bearable – but he cannot wait to get home. LuLu is curled up on the couch, so we are going to join her. Night all. Thanks for all the b day wishes.

Barb — belated (at least in the day) Happy Birthday wishes. As to LuLu, your description sounds all too familiar re Teddy when he is in his devil dog mode. Two thoughts. First, the more exercise the better, just tire them out. Second, we taught Teddy to sit very early on to sit (rewarded with a treat, of course), and when he gets in devil dog mode, making him sit can often distract him and calm him down.

Tour!…Sob!Sob!Sob!….I looked at the clock and Spencer is probably telling his old stories and making up new ones (not) right now….sniff!…Hopefully, a lot of fans made it to the talk. I do not believe the Tattered Cover in Highlands Ranch is being flooded out – I could be wrong, but I think it is safe there…wuffle!…Surely, Spencer brought his rain gear just in case of a 100 Year Flood…Sob!Sob!Sob!

Wookie and Teddy’s Dad: Come to think of it, Mom always made me stop and sit just when I was getting wound up for some wild fun. Then I would forget what it was I was going to do.
Rio, We are so very happy to hear that you and Pepper are safe. How about your house?

Wha a day, what a day. I just boarded my flight to Anchorage. Tomorrow is another village and then I plan on staying put at home for Saturday.

AJ made the trip to get the dogs. Tenzing was copilot. They have probably started their journey home. He made good time there. Paws crossed that the dog truck keeps working. It’s been in the shop four our five times since the race.

Stay safe all youse. Night nutter butters.

Another 370-mile trip to North Pole. I drive with headlights on anyway but we are losing so much light everyday I actually needed them the last couple of hours of the trip.

Potential buyer made a counter offer; I’ll make a counter offer tomorrow. Hopefully that will be that. We will see.

Barb: glad you had a great b-day.

Oh happy day! Guess what I found late late last night? I guess I just didn’t wait long enough before. I now have the audiobook! So I can listen to the masterful Jim Frangione as the Voice Of Chet, instead of iPhone Karen. (While Karen, the Australian voice, is a vast improvement over grumpy Samantha, the American one, it’s still not Jim Frangione.) So, yeah, guess what I’ll be doing this weekend?! You got it Toyota! See y’all on today’s post ๐Ÿ™‚
