Special Edition
The quilt arrived today. It is fabulous and will be treasured always. You, the Plunderers, do so much to make all the work that goes into this series worthwhile. There’s no way to thank you enough.
More tomorrow.

All the credit goes to those idea-plunderers and quilting-plunderers and secret agent quilt-safety-plunderers on the blog. Hooray for them! Hooray for the quilt!
Whew. Time for a nap.
7:15 am on September 15th, 2010
And Hooray for Rockie too! He fended off the maurauding goats.

7:21 am on September 15th, 2010
Wow!… Good work everybody!…snort!snort!…
Chet!…Could you please talk someone there in to taking a photo of Spencer and Admin (either or) holding the Quilt up??? Pleeeeeese!… grunt!
7:54 am on September 15th, 2010
Wow. The quilt has arrived. Thank Dog, I don't know what Rio would have done if the goats got it.
You know it is interesting that such a nice guy can write such evil characters.
Makes you wonder doesn't it.
I guess you call that 'talent'
And a special to Fatty Kitty… It wasn't so long ago you were questioning me about "what is so interesting about that blog anyway." Heh heh heh Now you better get back to work!
I will be closing down the computer for our trip. See you all later tonight or early tomorrow!
Staff, Alice and Abbie

8:41 am on September 15th, 2010
Rio: You 1:10 post saying that your posts arent' showing up did show up.
8:56 am on September 15th, 2010
Posts!…Are we continuing posting here or on the first one with the Astrid case?… snort!
9:14 am on September 15th, 2010
You're welcome, Chet and all. We guess you realize how much you all mean to the plunderers. Of course, the special thanks goes to TeamTalent who took the rest of us under their wings so we could be included. We would love it if the quilt makes it to Houston so Mom could get a picture of you with it. (and we could see it in person!
9:16 am on September 15th, 2010
Rio: It looks like we are posting here.
10:07 am on September 15th, 2010
The Pack is going nuts. There is something across the river. Mattie is barking the alarm. The rest go out and bark at the back gate. I've gone out and looked, but as Chet has mentioned the human nose just doesn't make it.
Could it be the turkeys from the other day?
Could it be a bear (bear season right now)
Could it be a deer or a moose?
Could it be a leaf that moved the wrong way?
Time will tell.
10:23 am on September 15th, 2010
I'm voting turkeys. Wookie goes absolutely wild when turkeys are in the vicinity…his favorite taste treat.
10:36 am on September 15th, 2010
I'm confused about where we are suppose to post today, but this is a special treat, A SPECIAL EDITION POST! I'm glad the quilt arrived on time and safely. We love you Chet!
Rio, you said we were suppose to dress in our best today so I have put extra eye makeup on. For this special day, Mom will let me look like Demon, the lead sled dog, in the movie Snowdogs.
10:39 am on September 15th, 2010
SH: I just posted to you on "The Life" post saying that we are posting in "Special Edition."
10:40 am on September 15th, 2010
Kirby has returned! Yippie!!!
Rio, I'm aware that the Rockies are playing a game right now, but I will not post a word about it.
Thank you so much, Spence, for the special edition post. A certain someone on this blog would have started worrying right about now.
10:41 am on September 15th, 2010
Woo! Woo! Woo! I think it is time to break out the martinis and slim jims. Wookie
10:44 am on September 15th, 2010
hee hee, thanks Stover. I hope Chet sees my post there about trying In and Out hamburgers while he is in LA.
10:46 am on September 15th, 2010
Wookie!…Will you mix me one of your special Martinis please!….Woooo!… The Rockies are playing too!…Thanks for reminding me SiberH!….snort!… I will be watching that on the computer cuz our TV is turned off during the day…grunt! ….Slim Jim anyone???
11:07 am on September 15th, 2010
Is this great or what!
11:07 am on September 15th, 2010
I was thinking of opening the bottle of Cahors in honor of the quilt and Special Edition but I'm going to save it for TFAT's arrival. Perhaps a glass of Medoc in a bit….
I've never heard of In and Out hamburgers SH.
11:16 am on September 15th, 2010
We have never eaten them either, Stover, but the people in LA say they are delish. Mom knows a guy who brought two dozen In and Out hamburgers all the way from LA to Albuquerque in the back of his pickup…they were not in a picnic cooler. Mom refused to try one because of the way he transported them. Others ate them, though, and didn't get sick.
11:40 am on September 15th, 2010
We have seen several ratings for best burgers in the U.S. In and Out and Five Guys restaurants are almost always mentioned. We have never gotten a chance to try either, but would love to.
Barb's daughter is in Napa and San Francisco for 4 days (b-day present from her hubby). He knew someone who knew someone (far out connection), and anyway he was able to get a reservation for the Chinese Laundry. Supposed to be rated #1 in the world and almost impossible to get in. Should be interesting to see what she says about it.
11:40 am on September 15th, 2010
Rockies!… I guess they finally woke up for the last game of the series…snort!…They are kicking butt today!…Wooooo!
11:52 am on September 15th, 2010
Rio. That's right, the Rockies are really looking good today. I'm hooked. Also, the secret to a great martini is in the selection of the right gin — the best is Hendricks. Ratio of gin to vermouth is 5/1. A nice plump olive is also important (but no onions, very bad for dogs). And remember, shaken, not stirred, so as not to bruise the gin. BTW, a slim jim makes a great swizzle stick. Wookie
11:55 am on September 15th, 2010
GO Rockies!!! I have to leave for a bit, but hope I can make it back for the end of the game. Keep clapping for the Rockies, Rio, while I am gone.
11:58 am on September 15th, 2010
Chinese Laundry as in shoes…..?
12:12 pm on September 15th, 2010
Chinese Laundry as in restaurant (guess I left that out!)
Wookie, Have you heard of a bacon martini? Something new. It sounds good to me, but Barb thought it sounded groooosss! She likes pomegranate martinis, but those are made with vodaka, not gin. Same with the bacon ones.
12:59 pm on September 15th, 2010
Wookie!… I emailed my friend and told her to stop at the liquor store and pick up some Hendricks, Vermouth and Olives – No oinion and those special glasses…. Snort!!…. She wrote back and said, “No!”…. grump!
1:02 pm on September 15th, 2010
Martini!….That busy season place really makes her a dud till around October thru next April….snort!…During those months we have a lot more fun and stay up later… heh!
1:06 pm on September 15th, 2010
Game!….One more out and we will have this game in the bag!….wooooo!
1:09 pm on September 15th, 2010
WOOOOO!…Finally!…whew!
1:13 pm on September 15th, 2010
WOO WOO
1:37 pm on September 15th, 2010
I am so glad the quilt arrived safe and sound. We get a Special Edition too. I just may celebrate with a "Dirty Martini".
1:39 pm on September 15th, 2010
Barb and Maggie: I think you mean the "French Laundry" owned by Thomas Keller. It is in Yountille, Ca. Very very good!
1:47 pm on September 15th, 2010
Mollie, I think you are right and we are wrong!!!!There is a Chinese Laundry restaurant in San Fran but it must not be the world famouns one. Have you been there? I bet it is $$$$$.
1:55 pm on September 15th, 2010
Barb & MagPie, YSAS went to Five Guys with his SO. He had his hamburger with no bun and said it was great. She had it regular and said it was delicious. I've never heard of In and Out.
Note to self: Do not take a drink and then read blog. Slim JIm swizzle stick indeed!
Had to wash off the computer!
DebbieLM, you were right. It was the TURKEYS! They don't even care if the Pack barks at them. They seem to have the concept of fence.
In celebration of the quilt I am having a cup of Barts Ice Cream. Local ice cream made with cream and sugar. Remember those? This is Local Maple and Walnut.
YUM!
1:56 pm on September 15th, 2010
Barb&Magggie: The French Laundry seems to be rated #1 in the U.S. every year. Yes, very expensive I think. Frix Fixe is $250 it says in the menu (http://frenchlaundry.com/). Yes, I ate there before it became so popular that you couldn't get a reservation. It was delicious then and probably still is.
1:59 pm on September 15th, 2010
Wookie: I see you recommend Hendricks. I have never tried it, but I think I have heard that it is good. Now I will have to try it. You say 5 to 1?
2:03 pm on September 15th, 2010
So In and Out was the first drive through burger place. Cool. You do not want to look at the calories for their menu.
Reminds me of Scotland, PA. Joe and Pat McBeth works at Norm Duncan's burger joint, kills them and creates the first drive through burger joint. The detective, Lt. McDuff (Christopher Walken) comes in to solve the crime. Excellent movie.
Which reminds me YSAS has background work tomorrow with The Good Wife. Never watched it myself. Is it good?
2:05 pm on September 15th, 2010
Mollie A.B.P., why would us humans want to eat in a laundry? It's hard enough around here with the Pack stealing the dirty clothes from the laundry pile and then using pieces of tug-of-war in the side yard for all the world to see. . .
I'd feel like I should be started a load up and changing things to the dryer. And for that I pay $250?
2:06 pm on September 15th, 2010
Melanie: I think The Good Wife is excellent. What scene is YSAS in so I can watch for him.
2:11 pm on September 15th, 2010
Melanie: The Good Wife is very good. I ordered the dvd of the first season which should be coming tomorrow.(Way to go YSAS.) Your ice cream sounds good.
Mollie BP: I hope your martini is as good as my glass of Medoc.
2:18 pm on September 15th, 2010
At this point he doesn't even know what he's doing tomorrow. When he talks to me tomorrow night or Friday morning I can tell you more.
2:21 pm on September 15th, 2010
The wine list at the French Laundry is impressive.
2:25 pm on September 15th, 2010
Mollie ABP, Is the $250.00 per person or per couple? Assuming you mean each. Could any meal be that good? Well, I guess it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
Me and Barb, We made more pesto today. Just picked some fresh green beans from the garden for dinner, and are doing a chicken breast with EVOO and some of that pesto slathered on top, with fresh grated parm. cheese. Yum, and a lot less than $250.00!
2:26 pm on September 15th, 2010
Melanie, Send over some of that ice cream for dessert, will ya?
Will watch The Good Wife, if you find out a date when he will be on.
2:45 pm on September 15th, 2010
Meanwhile!….She’s over there eating cottage cheese out of the carton ….disgusting!
2:48 pm on September 15th, 2010
Barb&Maggie: Menu does not say if $250 per person or not. I guess it will be a "once in a lifetime", but since no one can usually get a reservation and it is rated the best I bet they will enjoy it. Let me know.
2:49 pm on September 15th, 2010
Barb: What is EVOO?
Rio: I think your friend needs to start eating better.
2:51 pm on September 15th, 2010
B.Stover: It sounds like you know a lot about wine. I have never tasted Cahors or Medoc. I usually have Pinot Noir or Zinfandel. I like red wine better than white wine.
2:52 pm on September 15th, 2010
B.Stover: EVOO is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Originated I think when Rachael Ray said it on her TV program.
3:03 pm on September 15th, 2010
Yes, we picked up that EVOO from Rachel Ray's magazine. She has some good recipes.
3:05 pm on September 15th, 2010
ABPoodle!… You sure are chatty tonight….snort! … Are they finally talking about something you are interested in or is it that Dirty Martini?… sniff!sniff!…Which by the way, is the only kind my friend will drink…snuff!
3:10 pm on September 15th, 2010
We have heard of a Dirty Martini before but can't remember what it is.
3:12 pm on September 15th, 2010
Ooooh…
A special edition! Chet and Bernie are special editions in my book. The quilt has arrived safe and sound. Thanks to all.
Melanie: I love The Good Wife. I started watching it after Rio and Stover were talking about it.
Home Sweet Home: The airport lady greets me with, "It snowed this morning!" Must've be one or two flakes only because it is nice right now but is supposed to freeze tonight. Have to go harvest the garden. I'd rather be napping.
Barb and Maggie: I love pesto.
3:12 pm on September 15th, 2010
Must've been, I mean.
3:17 pm on September 15th, 2010
It's a busy day today on the blogs!
First of all, welcome back Kirby!! You were greatly missed!!
I have eaten at In and Out dozens of times. It is good and cheap, and they actually peel the potatoes and make fries to order. I have heard that the First In and Out was in Claremont, about two miles from where I grew up. The restaurants (if you can call them that) are all up and down California now.
So glad to hear that the quilt arrived safely! You guys are amazing!
3:18 pm on September 15th, 2010
Mollie BP: I don't really know much about wine but I like reds. Pinot Noir and Z are also very good. Thanks about the info about olive oil.
As I understand it, a dirty martini has olive juice in it.
3:20 pm on September 15th, 2010
Rio: I guess it must be the Martini. I just couldn't stop myself..
3:22 pm on September 15th, 2010
Today!….The Quilt did in fact arrive safely!… whew!…Dawson is home!….snort!…And Clarkson is going to be in The Good Wife!!!… OMG!..OMG!… I sure hope I can see his lovely face this time…Melanie, you have to keep us updated on this big event!… grunt!… I wonder when the series starts again?? … sniff!…Maybe he is in the FIRST episode! He was in Damages last season and I missed him – but at that time I did not know what he looked like…drat!
3:33 pm on September 15th, 2010
B.Stover: Here is a receipe for Dirty Martini from Michael Chiarello – 2 1/2 shots of gin 1/2 shot of brine from cocktail olives, 1/8 shot extra dry vermouth. He has a restaurant in Napa called Bottega. It is supposed to be really nice.
3:37 pm on September 15th, 2010
Great!… Now we have two wonderful recipes for Martinis if and when someone every buys the ingredients… Woooo!… snort!…Do Martinis go with cottage cheese?….snuff?
3:53 pm on September 15th, 2010
Mollie BP: That sounds good!
Rio: What goes well with cottage cheese is pineapple.
3:57 pm on September 15th, 2010
Ooh, the beautiful quilt has arrived safely. Oh happy day! I can't wait until tomorrow's blog to hear about how lovely and princessy I look on the quilt. Moi, all rhinestones and gold thread. Moi, with the tiny tiara.
3:58 pm on September 15th, 2010
Stover!…We do have pineapple, I’ve seen the cans when she opens the pantry, but we are now out of cottage cheese…snort! …In fact we are out of almost everything again…grump! … I’m down to my last 2 biscuits and entirely out of my favorite jerky treats… grumble!… What the hell does she do all day long?…grunt!
4:04 pm on September 15th, 2010
Sammie… It would be nice to see a photo of the quilt with The Charming Mr. Abrahams… sniffle!… That would be awesome, really special in fact!….snorkel!…Maybe he will be balancing a wine glass on his head while holding the Quilt up!…hoooo!
4:16 pm on September 15th, 2010
Rio, will the picture be of Mr. Abrahams or Mr. Quinn?
4:19 pm on September 15th, 2010
I wonder where the quilt will be placed. The quilt project was fun.
4:20 pm on September 15th, 2010
We think there will be some nice comments about the quilt tomorrow morning from PSQA, etal. Can't wait. We are going to go to bed and read for awhile. We are 2/3's through the 2nd Ingrid book. It's just as good as the first time. Good night, all.
4:28 pm on September 15th, 2010
Hi, Everybody.
Rio, tell her to try a chocolate martini. vanilla vodka, Bailey's Irish Cream. It goes with everything.
4:29 pm on September 15th, 2010
Since there is nothing on tv, reading sounds like a good idea.
4:30 pm on September 15th, 2010
Hi Bluecat.
4:32 pm on September 15th, 2010
Honestly, first it was Monday nights I was late getting to the blog. Now it's Wednesday nights, too! After being off all summer, Mom's handbell choir just started Wednesday night rehearsals again. Phooey!
Yea, us! That wonderful quilt shows we can do anything when we all put our heads together. Now if we can just solve the Astrid case…. Or should we leave that to Bernie and Chet? After all, that's what they're getting paid for — I don't think Col. Bob would pay all of us if we beat Chet and Bernie to the punch! (But yes, they're heading to LA in Foster's wake, assuming that Foster was telling the truth about where he was heading.)
And although Mom had In and Out burgers when she lived in California, her family tended to frequent a place called "World's Best Hamburgers" in Orange County. I never got to eat there, but I've heard her talk about it. Yummmmmm!
Oh, and the French Laundry — I think that's where Duff (of "Ace of Cakes" fame) got his start before he started specializing in cakes. It's definitely ubercool!!!
4:42 pm on September 15th, 2010
Speaking of drinks, I have a friend who is Italian and the whole family drinks their morning coffee with a shot of Anisette in it.
I tried it and it's not too bad.
5:00 pm on September 15th, 2010
Baseball people: In case you are interested, or maybe you already know, Ken Burns will have a sequel called "Baseball: The Tenth Inning" on PBS Sept. 28 and 29.
5:04 pm on September 15th, 2010
Finally!…I’ve gotten the Mission Report from Rockie the Undercover Squirrel.….snort! …What courageous fellows are Wookie and Rockie!! …gruff!… The Hillbillies are still under consideration…ahem!…Anyway, here is the full report hot off the peanut press!
http://www.americangreetings.com/ecards/view.pd?i…
5:09 pm on September 15th, 2010
ABPoodle!… My friend was at the Rockies game a few weeks ago and Ken Burns threw out the first baseball!…snort!…She thought that was pretty cool, but she had a huge hotdog in one hand and a big beer in the other and did not get a photo…heh!
5:10 pm on September 15th, 2010
Sammie!… I suspect the photo (if there is one) will be of the Charming Mr. Abrahams…snort!…There is no way that Spencer with his pointy head could ever balance anything up there…grunt!
5:11 pm on September 15th, 2010
Hurray for the Quilt.
Sam, darling, you don't have to gloat about getting the royal treatment, while I was treated like a Kat. Hmph. No, no, be nice now Macy. We are quite happy just to be included, since Somebody relied on the talent of others to get me on it.
Mom is enjoying a fresh 2010 Cherry 7up with a hint of antioxidants She detects a hint of Tarrant County with a splash of Dallas, not too much.
Mollie, I like it when you are chatty, more to read than just
riothe regular baseball reports. Not that there is anything wrong with baseball reports, as our Rangers are leading Detroit Kats 9-5.5:12 pm on September 15th, 2010
How the heck do you get a special effect to STOP! I didn't want to strike out the entire sentence.
5:13 pm on September 15th, 2010
Rio: "Top Chef" finale is on! Do you have a favorite?
5:21 pm on September 15th, 2010
Kirby! … OMG!… Not watching it tonight! We will watch it tomorrow night….snort!…So please do not give away the Top Chef!…heh!….Nice to have you back Pal…sniff!… I’ve got some questions for you, but at a later time. Did you catch Rockies Goat Report up above…gruff!…Wookie is our Hero once again…wheeze!
5:25 pm on September 15th, 2010
Rio: My lips are sealed!
Yes, I saw the report. It sounds like the quilt had a lot of help getting to its intended target!
5:30 pm on September 15th, 2010
Thank you, Molly (ABP)…I knew that would be on sometime, but I didn't know when. It is cute the way Molly called us baseball people.
5:37 pm on September 15th, 2010
Rocky is sober in that report, but I didn't have to be there to know that Wookie is the true hero of the day.
p.s. I hope Rocky has lost those blasted red lips for good.
5:43 pm on September 15th, 2010
SiberH!…I am amazed at how much you do not care for Rockie and his gang of Hillbillies!…snort!…You usually like everybody till they go off to Alaska without you. …grunt!…What gives? Why don’t you like these little flea bitten guys? They helped save our Quilt today, you know….sniff!…Wookie, of course was the true Hero!…Give that guy a Tetanus Shot!… heh!
5:57 pm on September 15th, 2010
I don't think Rocky and his gang of hillbillies are very dependable, Rio, but they are great to party with. I actually like hillbilllies and their music. But, trust me on this, they would not have succeeded today with out Wookie. You are right, they have fleas, and THEY WENT OFF TO ALASKA WITHOUT ME!!!
p.s. Rocky does very entertaining ecards and I love his accent.
6:00 pm on September 15th, 2010
Kirby!…Are you okay? Is everything going alright at your home?…snort!… You do have enough food, water, and treats, right?… sniff!…Nothing lacking in the way of food and bed time supplies and toys I hope…sniff! …Is Buford feeling tip-top? …grunt!
6:05 pm on September 15th, 2010
SiberH!…Thank you for your Rockie review, I was this close to firing the whole lot of them tonight…snort!….Believe me they all need their jobs very badly, you can only imagine…grunt!…They are not big into hunting and gathering nuts for the winter…sniff! …Their food savings account is almost nil at this point…grunt!
6:15 pm on September 15th, 2010
Ok, Rio…We can take up a collection for Rockie and the gang. We have some peanuts in this house that are going stale. If we can keep a few squirrels employed in these tough times we would be doing our part to help this country. A word of advice, NEVER SEND THEM ON A MISSION WITHOUT WOOKIE.
6:27 pm on September 15th, 2010
Damn!….Some one here has “people” in town for busy place meetings and such, so we have to go to bed early….Yawn!…Probably not a bad idea actually…sniff! scratch! … Just didn’t want the Quilt Delivery Day Celebration to end so soon…grunt! …
Night All!… Remember Do Not Let Those Damn Bed Bugs Bite!…sniff! …There is help close at hand! Well, not tonight, the team is all out celebrating the arrival of the Quilt, but tomorrow maybe, although our schedule is quite backed up because of the Goat Mission…grunt!… Possibly the Bed Bug Team will be available by next week sometime, maybe… snort! … Never Fear we Are Here!…heh!
6:28 pm on September 15th, 2010
Good Night Friends!!
It has been a great day!
1:50 pm on January 19th, 2011
At least bed bugs tend to be revitalizing the economy, the exterminators are making a killing.
