Snowhook Patch For The Iditarod

“Things seem really busy down there in Plunderland,” says Spence.

Admin nods. “Did the Plunderers want to be involved in the design and manufacture on the patch for the sled, or the equipment bag, or wherever it was supposed to go?”

“I’m not sure.”

“We were looking for something with Chet seen from behind, overlooking a snowy vista, maybe with a team racing  across,” Admin says. “And what? Chetthedog.com at the bottom?”

“Sounds hard to do,” says Spence. “And the Plunderers are already so busy.”

“Well, let’s throw it out there, see what they say over the weekend.”

“Are we having an Easter egg hunt?”

“What’s the point? Chet ends up with all of them.”

What’s this? Easter egg hunt? Doesn’t ring a … ah, it’s coming back to me. What a life!

Welcome Sage and Basil. Sneakers, please try again.

Details – how big is the patch? What sort of orientation, landscape or portrait? or square? round?

I like the patch as described by Admin. Not sure what “production” involves. What do we need to do?

Good morning Liz…or is it good night there?

Rio set up the email address and gave us the password that we can use for sending things off this blog. I haven’t tried it yet but…..Barb: I’ll send you a test recipe using it.

    Good morning.
I like the image of Chet’s silhouette watching our dog team running across a snowy tundra. Maybe we could see Whitey-Lance’s
red and white jacket on one of the dogs. The patch would match the book covers. I can’t help drawing such a thing unless you want stick dogs.

Excellent Dawson. I like the idea of Whitey-Lance’s jacket.

Hey, Chet: Do you eat the shells and all?

Good morning B! and D! It’s good night here – 11.15pm. I’m just here to put up the cookbook info before i collapse into bed. Dawson, u r so right about the prep, it’s a bore.

    RULES FOR THE COOKBOOK

    Deadline: END OF MAY
All recipes to Barb, either by snail or email to her, or via the dishlickers email address.
Barb collates all recipes by 31 May and sends to B for editing. At this stage you two can use either electronic or hardcopy, whatever you prefer, but they all have to be typed up eventually.
    PICTURES
Pictures to Melanie by the end of May.
Subjects: mostly the finished dish or a nice arrangement of the ingredients? Pictures of four-leggeds okay too, but this will be a design issue and might not be possible to include everyone even though there were some cute ideas (4-legs with their bowls etc).
Melanie sends JPEGs to me, probably best on a CD if there are a lot of them. M – email me for my street address and we can discuss file sizes.

    Deadline: FIRST WEEK OF JUNE
Pics on way to Liz, B sends all files to me via email only – no scans, Word files only.

    Deadline: END OF JUNE
Finished cookbook up on the Snowhook website as a PDF.

    What do you all think?

Great plan Liz. So that I know which laptop to use, what Word software do you have? My school laptop has the latest Word (is it Office 8….I don’t remember) so perhaps I should use that laptop. What do you think?

Okay LizF, do you want a specific size or pixel size?

    Cool.

I just remembered that OTAS has two (very old) paintings he did with the a Newf and dish. Is it okay with everyone if I use a pic of a painting?

Riö: Will be doing a video of YSAS cooking ribs. Needs it for a hosting reel! Sooooo, not sure when we are doing it. He’s here for a week or so. I will let you know when it’s up.

    Good morning! Eagle Pic!

Chet: I’m being editor again–“Well, let’s throw it out there…”

CHarris: Regarding publication of the cookbook, see Liz’s message above. It will be in PDF format on Snowhook’s website so no publisher necessary (right Liz?).

One more thing before I go off to pick up Jesse.

Chet, I could photoshop one of your imagines from one of the bookcovers on to a photo.

If Rebecca could send me a photo of a snowy vista with one of their teams mushing (?) across, I could make this work.

Then using filters I could do it as a painting, or sketch or whatever people agree to.

What do all of you think?

    Do need the size.

yah, yah…cookbooks, patches all that other stuff. fine. But did anyone notice who two of Chet’s new friends are – huh, didja?
Those are two of the finest looking friends we have ever seen! We think that anyone with their “friend” picture at the top of the list should be able to have the ‘puter for the day – so PAWS OFF CORGI-BUTTS!
(besides, the Corgis won’t be around much since YSAS is here – they get to visit with him. Betcha they come home with an autographed picture too…..humppff!)

  14. LizF
    9:54 am on April 22nd, 2011

    B – that’s right.

M – well, images for the PDF cookbook can be 72dpi, I’ll send a minimum size later. (Or probably a maximum size is more useful…) If we ever go to hardcopy it might be worth keeping a 300dpi version of each.

    Great eagle pic!

Whoa!…..Wait just a cotton picking minute!….snort!…. Why would we put the Dishlicker Cookbook out on Snowhooks blog in complete form?….grunt!….Isn’t the idea to raise money for them? I thought it was going to be like the Calendar, you have to order it to get it? …wheeze! ….I’m not giving away Grandma’s recipes for Nuthing…grump!

Thank dog so many of you have so many talents for recipes and patches. Recipes to Rio’s dishlickers account as soon as we can unfreeze Word.

Wishes for a happy spring renewal weekend, however that looks to Everybody: Passover – Easter – baby goats 🙂

    10:46 am on April 22nd, 2011

Melanie – we love the photoshop idea, but would it be too “busy” with a whole team racing across the snow? What about just the back of Chet sitting with the back or profile of Whitey-Lance, the two of them looking out over the snow? Maybe the Iditarod Arch in the background?
Gee, we hope Siber gets back soon – we want his input for sure.

  22. B.Stover
    10:58 am on April 22nd, 2011

I don’t think Whitey-Lance’s pack mushing in the distance would make the “scene” too busy.

Rio: I have no idea about downloading PDFs but I’m sure Liz does.

Liz: We probably need more of an explanation as to what you have in mind.

I didn’t recognize the Herbals without their costumes. They look as if they are very fluffy, and I am not referring to their fur.

Love the patch concept! Love it, love it, love it!!! And I especially love the idea of dressing WL in his striped jacket! AND I love the idea of Chet and WL sitting on the snow. Maybe with the team racing by, across the tundra, visible in between their shoulders.

Liz is the designer of Funny English…Errors and Insights which includes illustrations. It was compiled by Troy Simpson. It is a published book, published by the National Library of Australia. She sent it to me last year and I’ve quoted several items from it on Chet’s blog: “Shakespeare was a great writer, only he used too many familiar quotations.”

  28. Wolfie
    11:39 am on April 22nd, 2011

I wonder if we could use the patch image as the cover of the cookbook? And I wonder if Rebecca would want to bundle it, along with the hoodies and the sweatshirts.

For example, the calendar sells for $50. Let’s say the patch sells for $10. (Random number that I just made up!) But if someone were to buy both the calendar and the patch, they would pay $57 for both. I am pretty cheap, um frugal, and speaking for myself, I would be more likely to make the purchase if I thought I was getting a bargain.

    Just some thoughts.

  29. Wolfie
    11:44 am on April 22nd, 2011

I wonder if Snowhook has a logo. I haven’t seen one yet, but the patch image might work, minus Chet. I’m not sure how or if that could work.

Melanie, are you decorating Easter eggs for the pack again? I remember being amazed that the pack ate Easter eggs, shell and all. I wouldn’t do that. I make moom peel mine first.

Hey! Basil & Sage, Very nice pictures!

What’s with all of the computer problems? Here too. Although we use IE-9, the speed is very slow lately. Probably need to get rid of some “stuff”.

    B. You remembered it’s Earth Day! Color me Green 365 days a year.

Security issues: Couldn’t each of us set up a separate email account using our Plunderer idenity for the sole purpose of communication with the rest of the Pack? (ie: BearSpiritDog@_____.com, which could be posted at the email address Rio has already set up. This way security would not be an issue (as in Lurkers of an unscrupulous sort) and we could move about freely without revealing our actual email address. Is this an option – what do you all think?

Rio: I like the dishlicker email address for use as a group. Thank you for setting it up. Actually, I got my idea from you.

Thank Dog! The deadlines have been extended. We are chasing our tails here trying to keep up with all that’s going on!

  33. Barb & Maggie
    12:11 pm on April 22nd, 2011

We are busy this morning, will go to that dishlicker’s email address later, but really don’t understand why everyone doesn’t just email recipes to our regular address. Doesn’t everyone who wants it have it? And if I go to that email address, how in the world do I down load someone elses email from it? You guys are making this way too complicated for me, and it is making me very grumpy!!!

  34. Basil and Sage
    12:46 pm on April 22nd, 2011

Clarification – when we said too “busy” for the patch, we were thinking of the embroidery values for creating the patch. If you try to get too much detail in its gets very complicated in the manufacture of the patch – of course we are just assuming that you are talking about an embroidered patch…if it was a photographic image, of course you can get in as much detail as you want. Especially with Melanie’s photoshop wizardry.

We love both ideas for the Snowhook patch. Really like that Admin suggested the back of Chets head…that ties to the books wonderfully. Maybe one of the artistic of the blog could do a preliminary one both ways…1 with just Chet looking at the team mushing and 1with Chet and Whitey side be side. Then we can get an idea of the busyness of the pic.

Barb, we don’t have your email address but don’t mind using the dishlickers one Rio set up. Just don’t know how to safely get yours.

Has any one ever tried to get cats to pose by an empty food dish? Great idea but we probably won’t cooperate.

By the way, we aren’t implying that all Lurkers are Internet thiefs. But who knows where the thieves are hiding!

Patch! What about using Admin’s idea – one with just Chet looking down on the racing Snowhook team for the patch, with Whitey-Lance as lead dog (even though he’s not) just for display purposes? Then another version with both Chet & Whitey for the cookbook cover. We think it should be only Chet looking down on the racing team as Whitey is in the race. Just tossing out ideas here.

    Melanie & B: Thank you!

I like Rio’s dishlicker@ yahoo.com. It can also be a go-to place for all of our project information. I, for one, am having trouble keeping track of all the details and my computer skills are less than desired.

Oh, I must be really DUMB! I go to the dishlickers email, and all I get is a regular email screen, like I am going to send someting, with cc and bcc and subject below the send to bar. How do you log on to an email using a password? There is no place for a “Password “. Makes NO SENSE!

  46. B.Stover
    4:10 pm on April 22nd, 2011

Dislickers did the same thing to me–it takes me to a “new message” that I’m supposed to write and it’s addressed to dishlicker. There is no place for a password. If I sent a message wouldn’t it be using my regular email account?

I using another computer that isn’t mine and that is a piece of junk. We are still waiting on ours to get out of the repair place…part of my problem is my internet server. Our guy is working on the problem.

I may be able to mush across the tundra with the best of them, but I don’t have an artistic toenail in my body. I very much like the design for the patch you guys are working out.

For the record once again, I did not reject the Borozi’s advances. She dumped me.

Ok Rio, I am still not getting there and it is frustrating the frickin hell out of me. I did what you said – http://www.yahoo.com. 63. Barb & Maggie
    6:11 pm on April 22nd, 2011

I figured out what I was doing – you didn’t tell me I had to sign out first, and then reenter all the Dishlicker info. When I click on email, it take me to my regular email, because I am always signed on as Barb. Yahoo is where my own email is. I had to completely sign off as me, then resign on as Dishlicker. Next time I went back, it says Hi Dish. So every time I want to check it, I have to sign off my own email and resign on.

  64. LizF
    6:12 pm on April 22nd, 2011

How’s it going now with the email, is everyone there?

Re the publishing of the book – I like Mollypop’s idea. The tech side of paying for a PDF isn’t my specialty but i can ask the guys at work.

I’m a graphic designer and I work for a book publisher, so I know how complicated it can get, plus we’d have to pay up front for printing and delivery, then someone has to be the organiser of receiving orders and posting them out. PDF is more desirable.

Maybe there’s a way that if people make a donation to Snowhook e.g $20 and under (pulling figures out of the air) they get sent a cookbook…

  66. Siber-H
    6:24 pm on April 22nd, 2011

I want to add that I like Admin’s description of the design of the patch.

I am not into dealing with the tech skills involved with the cookbook. I have had it up to my pointed ears with technology right now. My server has managed to lose my emails and my address book. This is almost funny because my computer guy is calling them and trying to make them give them back. I will buy the cookbook if it goes up for sale. I don’t think it will work to try to sell the cookbook with the calendar because some of us have already ordered the calendar.

I don’t know how to cook anything but Siberian Chicken or shaken bunny stew anyway. Mom just told me to keep my mouth shut about goat cooked over a campfire.

Ve also think that maybe Siber is little bit playboy. Natasha’s heart is not toy to be shaken and buried. Volfie vould never do such things.
As for Pug….is very cute, but ve think that if baseball game happened to break out in middle of mission, Pug vould be too distracted. Natasha is all about business – spying is very serious business. No baseball toys in spying.

Basil and Sage – the fibro diet was put together by Dr. St. Amand over many years using data from patients histories. The purpose is to alleviate the “fibroglycemia” that can make problems for some people. Mom didn’t want to give up caffeine so she never went on the diet even though she had those problems. Mom was happy just being so free of the fibro pain that she thought she was okay. But a few months ago Mom started the diet and feels even better! Dr. St. Amand is amazing. You can follow his protocol right from his web site and he’s not selling anything.

Mom is available for any questions because we hate to see anyone suffer needlessly.

At last – the Kats are asleep…
To go back to the beginning of the day – Gus and BooBear – it would not be hard to get a picture of Basil sitting by his empty dish. Heck that’s what he does most of the time. He sits next to his dish, looking pitiful, and meowing when anyone notices him. Mama calls him the Kibble Hustler.
Siber, Rio and Wolfie – sounds like you all have your paws full. Good luck at the wedding. tee hee.

And Rio – what the heck is a Jimmy Johns?
