Good morning!
Wake up, Auction Central. So far we haven’t seen any of our (losing) bids from last night, nor any from this morning, at AC.
9:03 am on December 1st, 2012
Good morning OleyHowlers! Are you getting snow? We were supposed to get a dusting. I love weather forecasters. They get paid “weather” they are right or wrong.
We now have 2 inches and it’s coming down fast and heavy. The feeder is rapidly emptying. Chickadees, Nuthatches and a beautiful Cardinal. There is also another bird I don’t recognize. I think it’s some kind of sparrow but it’s always on the far side of the feeder.
I have looked early this morning. Things are rapidly going out of my reach. Sigh
9:17 am on December 1st, 2012
We aren’t getting snow, but it sure is grey and damp and chilly here. They said it was supposed to be warm this weekend, so we’ll see.
9:19 am on December 1st, 2012
O.K. They lied. The forecast now says high of only 44.
9:22 am on December 1st, 2012
Oh oh oh! AC has arisen!
9:27 am on December 1st, 2012
Rents are going on a house tour and then a birthday party, and will be locking up the computers while they are away. That gives youse guys a chance to (temporarily) outbid us. heh heh
9:28 am on December 1st, 2012
Yawn!….Auction Central is up and at-it!…snort!snort!
9:28 am on December 1st, 2012
I should have known that Jasper’s Color quilt would zoom out of my reach, but I hadn’t expected to go that quickly!
9:29 am on December 1st, 2012
*********Breaking News*********
This just in from Auction Central: Confidential mission notes have been leaked detailing Operation Slim Jim. Agent 00Wookie obtained highly classified information from Spencer Quinn’s study where he writes all the Chet and Bernie novels. Special Agent Wookie, using his super spy skills, fancy-schmancy gadgets, his natural wit and charm, and a fleece lined harness was able to infiltrate the office of one, Spencer Quinn. Initial reports indicate 00Wookie secured his skilled paws on the first chapter of the next book in the famed Chet and Bernie mystery series. More details to come as we learn them…..burp!
9:30 am on December 1st, 2012
G’Day Riö! Happy Happy Happy Full Day of Auction!
I will be going down the hill the other way today. Unfortunately, Golinka and Storyteller are at the big show and won’t be home.
9:32 am on December 1st, 2012
Hmmm, let me know more when you can Commander Riö! I will put it up on Facebook. I have linked the Top Secret File to OFA’s page in hopes that more people will bid!
9:58 am on December 1st, 2012
Good morning all.
9:58 am on December 1st, 2012
Good morning all. Going to go check the auction status in a sec. See if there is anything we can still afford!
Melanie, There are several female birds that are colored like sparrows, but may be slightly larger. We also have some sparrow varieties here that are migratory only. Two are the White Crowned Sparrow and the White Throated Sparrow. Check those out if you have a bird book.
10:13 am on December 1st, 2012
Good Morning All!
Macy, your post from last night made me laugh!
Oleys, just want to let you know I added one more item to my bid list.
Very interesting new from Agent 00 Wookie….
10:21 am on December 1st, 2012
Melanie, Staff says to tell you to check Pine Siskin and Junco in your Peterson’s. They are common around her place in the winter. She also gets a few Common Redpoll. All are sparrow sized birds and mostly brown/grey/black.
10:27 am on December 1st, 2012
No new Friend of the Month? Not that I don’t want to see Logan anymore, just sayin’
10:41 am on December 1st, 2012
FOM!…Forgotten!..heh!heh!
10:58 am on December 1st, 2012
Good morning from the Lovesick Producer Show. Turns out he is lovesick because his beloved is out of the country on a business trip. So he is even goofier than usual.
And now the crowds are coming in. See ya all tonight and happy bidding!
11:02 am on December 1st, 2012
Good Morning Everyone!!!
Let the bidding wars continue! WOO WOO
(whispering) Is Rio’s breaking news a hint as to what is in the top secret package?
11:05 am on December 1st, 2012
Logan!
You’ve been a great friend of the Month. I enjoyed looking at your sweet face.
Yesterday I was outbid before my bids even got to Auction Central so today I bid on one thing and one thing only. I bid 17 (Sasha’s age) plus a 0. That should be good luck.
I never shoveled snow yesterday. Today I will be sorry for that lazy decision.
11:08 am on December 1st, 2012
Wishing Great Sales for Golinka & the Storyteller!!!
Most of the bidding is quickly slipping out of our paws.
(whispering) Good job on the surveillance, Agent Wookie.
Very Windy here. A Blustery Day…as Pooh would say.
11:15 am on December 1st, 2012
Same here, BSD. We were going to bid on the SK hat, but it is really up there already.
Staff, Good call on the Pine Siskin. We have those in the winter too. We have our feeders out, but so far have not had very exciting birds like we did out at the farm. There we had finches, blue jays, cardinals along with the juncos and sparrows. Here it is mostly sparrows. Blah, but they gotta eat too.
11:20 am on December 1st, 2012
ARC,,,ARF,,,cough
11:21 am on December 1st, 2012
Barb&Magpie: “Someone” wants that SK hat!
11:27 am on December 1st, 2012
We sent in bids for 3 items this morning and got the good news that we were high bidder on all 3! We have since been outbid on 1 of those. Why does getting outbid on something make you want it that much more?????
11:40 am on December 1st, 2012
Slip-sliding away…all my auction bids are slip-sliding away. sigh.
11:54 am on December 1st, 2012
G&B: Bidding Wars! We know what you mean!
11:58 am on December 1st, 2012
And now we’ve been outbid on the other 2!
11:58 am on December 1st, 2012
Gus and BooBear. Being outbid confirms your believe in the worthiness of the thing being bid upon. HEH. It is worth even more than you thought, so you ought to bid again.
11:59 am on December 1st, 2012
Staff is going to check her bids…
11:59 am on December 1st, 2012
Ah, BSD, sounds like we hit close to home with the SK hat!
This morning Barb is painting the last two cabinet doors in the kitchen. Thank Dog, we are almost done.
May drag the little fake tree up from the basement later.
12:21 pm on December 1st, 2012
Back from down the hill. It wasn’t snowing there. Still snowing here.
Heard there was a study that if.vanilla or orange sent was sprayed in a store, buying went up 20 percent. Hmmm, is there such a thing as virtual spray for our auction?
12:25 pm on December 1st, 2012
I hate auto correct.
Anywoof, Zoe and I both heard about a book written about being a soldier and how it changes a person. “What It Is like To Go To War”. Very good reviews.
Have fun bidding!
12:36 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie!…Please check your SDD!…snort!
12:56 pm on December 1st, 2012
Checked and done, Oh Commander!
I believe that one of the visitors is a Dark Eyed Junko. Still don’t know about another one. I’m taking pictures.
12:58 pm on December 1st, 2012
Barb&Magpie: The Snowhook SK hat…not us doing the bidding, but we know who!
You have reminded us…this would be a very good weekend to put up our little tree…and begin addressing/mailing Holiday cards.
Tis the Season!
Time to p/u a RX and a few items from the store.
12:58 pm on December 1st, 2012
Morning all youse. I wonder if the parts we borrowed from the RNG for the Bid Tracker 3000 are the cause of not having a new FOM. Maybe we should have spent less on hot wings and more on taking the BT3000 to the shop to be repaired by professionals.
1:08 pm on December 1st, 2012
Yeep! I am so glad someone bid on my item. My Two-legged said I shouldn’t be so bold about my policital views, but I just ignored her.
1:20 pm on December 1st, 2012
Belle Starr, I thought your political views were well said. And, on such an attractive item.
I am now downloading the pictures of birds.
1:24 pm on December 1st, 2012
Auction!….Every item has a bid now…snort!…Plus, we just went over the $1000.00 mark – many thanks to all of youse in the Bidding War over Clarkson!…grunt!
1:35 pm on December 1st, 2012
Another -35 day.
Melanie: there were a few winters when I lived more rural that I had a bird feeder. I would buy and fill my Subaru wagon with 20 lb bags of unshelled sunflower seeds. I don’t know how birds communicate but every year I got more birds chowing down. I stopped counting at 200. One winter was particularly harsh and the stores in Fairbanks ran out of sunflower seeds (both shelled and unshelled). The news cautioned people not to buy the salted sunflower seeds made for people and feed them to the birds.
1:40 pm on December 1st, 2012
No Worries, C.Hobbit. I will not use the salted sunflower seeds.
I have two pictures of the birds I can not identify. Also they are the only pictures that came out because those suckers are fast! One picture? It was empty branches. I thought taking pictures of puppies was difficult.
Any ideas anyone?
1:41 pm on December 1st, 2012
More of them!

1:47 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie: no idea. Up here it is mostly chickadees and a few red polls. I am always fascinated at the variety of birds when I go to the states–some are so colorful.
1:51 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie: Those are American Goldfinches.
1:54 pm on December 1st, 2012
Stover is right. American Goldfinch in winter plumage, or possibly female goldfinch.
1:55 pm on December 1st, 2012
Whoa….I am high bidder on 4 items. I wonder how long that will last. I better stay close to the keyboard.
2:02 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie – beautiful pictures. Very nice depth of field.
Off to check the auction.
2:28 pm on December 1st, 2012
Birds!…Wonderful photographs!…snort!…And I don’t even like birds..grunt!
2:29 pm on December 1st, 2012
We like birds. Yum!
2:39 pm on December 1st, 2012
Pancho n’ Lefty!…heh!snort!heh!…Bird Tartare…chorkel!
2:43 pm on December 1st, 2012
We like birds almost as much as we like snacking on wayward pocket items of passersby.
2:50 pm on December 1st, 2012
Thanks everybody! I tried to take pictures of the Nuthatch, Junko and the female Cardinal, but there’s not enough light.
There’s always tomorrow.
SNOWBELLA~ Please check your other SDD.
2:51 pm on December 1st, 2012
Pancho & Lefty, The Pack is with you on snacking on the birds. Luckily, the birds are a LOT faster than the Pack.
2:57 pm on December 1st, 2012
We are going to do a little reading – Empire of the Summer Moon. Got it from the library yesterday.
T & G, The manager of the big shew sounds like a total Drama Queen! He needs to get it under control and pay attention to business. Jeeze Louise, as someone says!
3:04 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie, We love the pictures. We put out a finch feeder (thistle seed) but have not had a single one so far. You are lucky!
Now time to check the auction irems and make some cookies.
4:17 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie, how in Dog’s name are you still getting goldfinches? We only get them in summer, and we even put our thistle feeder away when winter comes, because all the little thistle-eating birds go away then.
Rents came home from the house tour, but are still going to a birthday party real soon. Mom let us bid while she is here. She takes away all computers when we are home alone during an auction.
4:50 pm on December 1st, 2012
For the last few days North Pole has been the most polluted place in the U.S. due to a cold air inversion layer. The air quality is rated severely unhealthy. The state is supposed to step in an ban wood being burned for heat but that is impractical. North Pole has 182 micrograms of particulate levels per cubic meter; in comparison Bejinng, China has only 77 (Fairbanks has 91). Maybe this is why I am getting sicker rather than better. The inversion layer is to last a few more days and we are heading for -45 weather. Because of the unhealthy air, children, the elderly and the sick are to stay inside. No problemo. {{{{sigh}}}}}
5:02 pm on December 1st, 2012
C.Hobbit: We would imagine there are more than a few who rely on wood burning stoves. As to the inversion layer, one would think the North Pole air to be crisp and clear, but this sounds almost like smog.
Melanie: Love the photos of the birds at the feeder.
5:06 pm on December 1st, 2012
BSD: the air looks clear–no smog in sight. Deceptive. If I don’t improve by tomorrow, I might call the Fairbanks hospital for advice. They used to have a “clean” room during fire season if there were a lot of wildfires.
5:15 pm on December 1st, 2012
My Lady took me to the vet today. Turns out that bleeding from certain orifices is looked down upon by some. I had a prostate exam and let me tell you, it was not as fun as I was led to believe.
5:26 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, What did the vet say is wrong?
5:37 pm on December 1st, 2012
Yikes!….Orion, did everything come out okay?…grunt!
5:48 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, how are you feeling, and what did the vet say about this?
5:50 pm on December 1st, 2012
What’s this about bidding wars? Nooooo…finally I had top bid and now it’s gone, gone, gone.
Orion! Are you okay? Did you eat something you shouldn’t have eaten?
6:23 pm on December 1st, 2012
Embarr-assed!…heh!…Ole Ore is too embarrassed to post about his experience any further…snort!…And thank dawg!
Auction!….Central is experiencing a lull so I have sniffed out the beer and am kicking back watching The Bishops Wife . An old Christmas favorite of me and my friends…sigh! burp!
6:33 pm on December 1st, 2012
Question!…I have a question for Dawson regarding her Auction Item, White Wings….sniff!…Is this the same book that was passed around all over the country with a bunch of signatures and remarks?…snort!…Or is it a brand new book that Dan The Man signed?…wuffle!
6:38 pm on December 1st, 2012
Rio, Where are you finding the Bishop’s Wife? Is it on tv?
6:40 pm on December 1st, 2012
Riö: That is a very good question. We were wondering the same thing.
6:43 pm on December 1st, 2012
Barb!…Someone here ordered all our favorite classic Christmas movies on Netflix…heh!…So we have A Bishops Wife and also Christmas in Connecticut…snort!…OH! we are at the ice-skating scene in the first movie! WE LOVE that scene…wuffle!
6:57 pm on December 1st, 2012
Supper!….Lots of clanging and bangin upstairs as her mother fixes supper…heh!…She has invited a neighbor over and wants to make it more special than it is usually…snorkel!…Should be interesting as the neighbor (whom we love and adore) is bringing over left-over salads from a buffet lunch get-together. My friend has a huge aversion to buffets and leftover buffet food is the worst…grunt!…Should be interesting.
7:00 pm on December 1st, 2012
Melanie: just wanted to say your photographs are beautiful!
7:02 pm on December 1st, 2012
Belle Starr: Did you get the mailbox key yet? Maybe Pancho and Lefty might be able to give you a paw.
7:05 pm on December 1st, 2012
Rose!…When do you guys put up your Christmas tree?…snort!…My friend wants to put up ours (downstairs) tomorrow. Is this too early?…grunt!..Her mother is all against “the mess” for some insane reason, so Christmas decor is going to be downstairs this year!….snorkel!
7:14 pm on December 1st, 2012
Buns!…heh!…Her gourmet cook of a mother is going to let my friend “fix the buns”…snort!…The ones out of a can because she cannot open them herself…wheeze!…Again, from a pugs point of view, this will all be very interesting…heh!heh!
7:16 pm on December 1st, 2012
Rio. We put up our tree today, so it is definitely not too early. We needed to get it up this weekend because next Saturday is our annual Christmas Party. This year’s theme is Chanukah and Christmas. Menu will be posted later, but it definitely will include latkes. Yum.
Also got to visit grandpa again today. Great tummies. And it turns out that the nation within is actually allowed inside, so we sat in the lobby rather than outside. I think grandpa liked it almost as much as I did.
Gearing up for my big day tomorrow at the helm of Auction Central. Extra supply of hot wings and Slim Jim’s has been ordered.
Wookie
7:22 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wooo! Men in Black 3 just arrived from Netflix. Now if we can only spot YSAS…..
It’s early, but we’ll have supper then settle in to enjoy the movie.
Must get an early start to get in our final bids before the closing bell.
See youse tomorrow – Bear
7:30 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wookie!…Good to hear all around…snort!…We may even start the tree building tonight, what the heck!…chuffle!…Sounds good to me. OH! our company has arrived with her left-over salads…gah!gurgle!…See youse later…sniff!
7:31 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wookie: Primo time with Grampa. Good for you!
We were thinking about putting the tree up today but that’s as far as it went. Tomorrow definitely.
One last check of the auction items…..
7:43 pm on December 1st, 2012
Thank you everyone for your praise on the photographs. I love digital. You don’t like them? Press a button and they’re gone.
Wöökie, good to hear from you. Can’t wait to hear the menu (or at least read it).
Tonight . . Homemade tartar sauce (minced dill pickle and onion, combined with lemon juice, mayo and sour cream with a tad of dill weed).
No crust crab quiche. Muffin tin greased, grated Parmesan cheese on bottom, caramelized onion layer, then crab, then Feta cheese. Over that when beaten eggs (with a little milk). In the over. Out of the oven 20 minutes later.
Delicious.
7:44 pm on December 1st, 2012
Oh yes!
Wookie: Latkes on the menu…I’m drooling. That’s as good as getting tummies from Grampa in my book.
Oh no!
Rio has the day off tomorrow. No one will get a bid in edgewise on item #4.
WhiteWings: This is a copy of White Wings that I saw on Amazon last spring and purchased for the last auction. It was forgotten in the chaos of daily living but was sent to Melanie for Dan to sign. It is new but the dust cover is worn on the edges. This is not the one that went on tour.
7:47 pm on December 1st, 2012
B.Stover: I saw the perfect tee shirt for you.

Rio! If it were my decision alone, I would put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving. Last year, the Prof procrastinated, and it went up the week before. I just asked the Prof about this, and he said let’s put it up tomorrow. Yipeee!
When your friend puts up your tree, will you post a picture?
7:51 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wookie, I am so glad you had tummy time with your grandpa. BTW, how is your grandpa doing?
7:51 pm on December 1st, 2012
My Lady says I need to be mindful of the delicate sensibilities in this here blog when talking about my orifices. I knew Rio had sensibilities, but I had no idea they were so fragile. Rio, close your ears. For the rest of you, the vet is hopeful I am just havin a bad reaction to some medication she put me on earlier this week. I hope that all it is. As it has been explained to me, I could end up with substantially more room in my nethers. My Lady will keep an eye on me this weekend and report back to the vet on Monday.
Oddly enough, the three techs the vet asked to help hold me during my examination of my particulars all had the same name—Backup. It is an unusual name. Maybe it is regional.
Okay, Rio, you can uncover your ears now.
7:53 pm on December 1st, 2012
C.Hobbit, I had a comment to you awhile ago but I think I forgot to post it. My advice is for you and your four footed companions to STAY INSIDE!
Zoe wanted to go buy a tree, but I told her that it would just dry out if we got it from the store.
We are going to go hunting for a tree!! I will be taking Patsy and a saw. We can always say we were taking Patsy for a walk.
We were going to invite my sister, but Zoe said we might need her to pay our bail.
7:56 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, this is Franklin. Word of warning, that was just the first visit. Now every time you go see the vet and the Backup Howlers, remember to put your rear right against the wall and then lay down.
I’m speaking from experience here.
Franklin out.
7:57 pm on December 1st, 2012
Rebecca, are all the puzzles from the holiday boutique sold out? Mom put off buying and wishes she had the one that GLAD painted for B. Also, are there still magnets?
We have quickly been outbid on all 3 of the items we went for. So, now we have to decide which 1 we really, really want and are willing to bid even higher for!
8:06 pm on December 1st, 2012
Commander Riö please check SDD during the commercials of The Bishop’s Wife.

Orien – its all in the day of being a dog. Next time you have to go to the v e t, just tell them, “No need to get your Back Up!” Get it -you said their name was Backup, and we said Back Up, like getting your haunches raised. See how we did that? Its a joke.
Laugh, dam it, or we’ll bite your ankles!
8:48 pm on December 1st, 2012
Hmm, I wonder just what kind of day the Royals’ rents had?
8:48 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wookie!…NO new bids have come in for a long time now…snort!…Looks like you will have yer paws full tomorrow at Auction Central…snort!….Now back to begging from our esteemed and beloved company…sniff!…While my friend does all the damned dishes…grunt!

News from the Lovesick Producer Show – today’s “oops” moment…the building where the show is being held is a college building, open for classes during the week, not usually open on weekends. Except where there is an event held in the exhibit hall.
So today, being a Saturday, the security guards hadn’t opened the door to the ladies’ room. The mens’ room was open, cuz all the guards are men. When this was pointed out to the security guard, he said that he wasn’t told to open the ladies’ room, so he wouldn’t. Went to the show producer to ask about it, since he had rented the exhibit hall. Oops. He forgot. So he goes to the security guard and asks him to open the door. Nope – the guard says he wasn’t given instructions to open the ladies room. But the hall is rented and open to the public. Nope the guard says. He will open the door if a woman comes to the security office and asks for an escort. But each and every woman, exhibitor and customer will need to be let in individually.
Gee, guess that security guard would have been really, really busy all day long if some very naughty (and anti-stupidity activist) woman hadn’t jammed wet paper towels into the door latch, hmmmm?
Yup – there’s no business like show business….
8:49 pm on December 1st, 2012
Franklin: Thank you for the advice. While we were waiting for the vet in the exam room I was fleshing out a theory. There is a small triangular seat built into one corner of the exam room. As My Lady sat there, the idea struck me. If I could climb up onto the seat and behind My Lady, the vet wouldn’t be able to see me. I got my front legs on the side of My Lady and put my head over her shoulder so my nose was in the corner. I couldn’t see the vet if she came in so clearly, she wouldn’t be able to see me. My Lady said my theory still needs some work. After the examiniation of my hin quarters, I have to agree.
8:53 pm on December 1st, 2012
That last post was from Orion. I gave him a happy in no time pill to help with any pain as well as to forget the events of the day.
T&G: We are laughing at your last two posts. I like my ankles.
8:55 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, Franklin here: I have discovered the means to disappearing and at my size that isn’t easy. You can NOT be able to see the vet. You hold your head down and away. If you can’t see them at all, then they can’t see you.
Franklin out.
p.s. It works better if you aren’t slobbering a treat they have just given you. Drool makes you visible.
9:05 pm on December 1st, 2012
I’m not much of a drooler, but I wonder at the impact tail wagging has on one’s visibility.
9:05 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, I hope you are feeling tip top soon. I’m sorry you had to be subjected to such poking and prodding.
9:11 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wose: My Lady made the same apology. She also apologized for making me wear a maxi pad around my mid section today. Was I supposed to be embarassed by it? I don’t know.
9:13 pm on December 1st, 2012
G&BB: If Rebecca doesn’t have any magnets or the puzzle that was painted for B, let’s talk.
9:16 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion: Lo siento. This week I have to get poked and prodded in a similar way myself. Annual exams can be very humbling.
9:19 pm on December 1st, 2012
Wose: My Lady had to go to her own vet a while ago. She said she backed out of the room when she saw the latex gloves and other instruments, just like I did. It must run in the family.
G&BB: My lady ordered extra magnets and may have one puzzle available, but she will have to check. She is waiting for them to arrive from the puzzle maker.
9:21 pm on December 1st, 2012
Company!…GONE!…Dishes Done!..grunt!…Still no new bids, so Auction Central is Cool, very Cool..heh!
9:25 pm on December 1st, 2012
Orion, you are a manly dog no matter what you wear.
T&G, the “very naughty (and anti-stupidity activist) woman” who fixed the lock sounds familiar. Do I know her?
It’s time for bed. Thank dog. Patsy is asleep in the middle of the queen size bed. This presents a large problem. snicker
TTFN and Happy Bidding!

Rents are home. We think they have been partying a lot more than their excuse of attending a 2-year old’s birthday party suggests.
Lefty, sounds like one dog-awful exam. Tell us what that v-e-t said.

I am hurting tonight. Not because of my ‘conversation’ with the vet today, but because AJ and the team are preparing for a training run. I am inside trying to sit on My Lady’s lap, but my heart and soul belong on the line with the team. I AM a sled dog. My Lady says I’ve been howling for several minutes, but I didn’t notice. I couldn’t hear my howling over the song in my heart.

What what what is going on with Orion?
10:26 pm on December 1st, 2012
Howlers: He started bleeding from his undercarriage today. Long story short, I wrapped a maxi pad around his middle and took him to the vet. He was poked, prodded, and had all our lesson’s of Stranger Danger shot to hell. The vet hopes it is a bad reaction to some medication she put him on earlier this week. That is our hope. Otherwise, if things are more serious, our guy might find himself with more space in his nethers as a preventative measure. I will watch him over the weekend and report back to the vet on Monday.

Rio: It’s not just about the aptitude to learn how to be a lead dog, but the willingness and temperment to do so. Twig not only decided to be a lead dog, she demanded it.
