Snippet

“No phone, no computer, no gun,” Bernie said. “It’s like the dog that didn’t bark.”

After that he took the photo off the wall and the sheet of paper off the desk and we headed downstairs. He might have done a few other things but I was too distracted to notice. The dog that didn’t bark? What did that even mean? We bark, period. We can bark all day and all night for any reason or for no reason at all. Was Bernie under some sort of strain? I gave him a close look.

We were getting a little concerned about OFA. It’s not like he can’t take a day off once in a while but…
We think the reason dogs can bark like they do and not get laryngitis is the dog God’s payback.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Good day all. I ordered the on sale digital copy of Dog On It ($1.99!). Nosy Mr. Big had to check it out. You can say “a cat was involved.” heh. Notice the ear matches Chet’s.

The weather has truly broken. High of 76 today and tomorrow. It will go back to 80 next week. But meantime I’m going to try to get some things done outside but still stay out of the sun.

As predicted I will be done with the first K Team book today or tomorrow and I still have a month to go before It’s a Wonderful Woof. I do have the second K Team book coming and I have The Right Side on the Kindle app. Valerie Hobb’s third Sheep book, Rusty, has arrived but that will be a fast read. I thank the students of Morris School, McKinleyville, CA for convincing Valerie to write this last Sheep book. As always I just wish it was longer. (And in hardback.) I do like closure.

So….will there be another Queenie and Arthur book? Seems there were some loose ends and it hadn’t quite finished yet.

Bark to the Future. August 9, 2022. That’s almost a YEAR away.

Well, at least Franklin can bark and barks a lot. Indeed, we think he has a new motto, with apologies to Rene Descartes, which is “barko, ergo sum” (I bark; therefore I am).

Hobbit: I also bought Dog on It even though I have the hardback. It’s nice to have it on the iPhone and iPad in case I’m somewhere waiting. I’ll usually read one of the e-books but nice to revisit the very first book that got me hooked on Chet and Bernie. Even better that it’s now portable.

Diana pawPrints seems to have a barking fit every night around 9pm. I don’t know what is happening in the neighbor’s yard to set her off every night. Maybe a cat is involved.

Mr. Big’s motto would be “comedo, ergo sum” (I eat, therefore I am). Maybe that’s my motto also; both of us seem to be getting ready for winter by packing on some extra insulation.

Sadie used to bark at everything but I haven’t heard her bark in a couple of years as she has less interest in things happening in her environment. She used to have conversational barking when I would arrive home. I am sure she was telling me things–probably about Mr. Big– but I was not fluent in barking.

Hobbit, I fear we have a really rocky winter going to happen here since I am packing on the pounds like a grizzly getting ready to hibernate. Oh well, it’s like my doctor said, there’s something to be said for genetics.
Is Sadie still enjoying her short walks?

In contrast to huskies, Freyja isn’t much of a barker at all. Never heard her howl. Mostly she looks at Diana wondering what all the fuss is about. Which is nice as I don’t want her deciding to join Diana every time Diana needs to tell someone off or wants to register her disdain. However Freyja does not hold back on scolding me for whatever she is displeased about. Mostly dinner being late or not enough treats. It’s not loud and consists of mostly raw raw rowr.

If Diana pawPrints has a motto it is likely “Cave canem. Morsus, necat, lacerat testiculos, et tripudiat in cadavere.” Not that she would.

I would not like to meet Diana pawPrints: “Watch out for the dog. bite, kill, tear testicles and dance on the corpse”

Hobbit. Diana is just a big softy. She barks a good game but caves when it comes to people. Cats I’m not so sure about. But she’s 100 lbs, big and black with large white teeth. I rather prefer the neighbors to be cautious about coming into my yard without an invitation. I’m considering having that sign printed up for my fences, only maybe in Italian or Spanish instead. I originally saw it in Italian with the photo of a Dachsund.

Freyja is an equally useless guard dog. She doesn’t even bark.
