Sneak Peek: To Fetch A Thief
Home is our place on Mesquite Road. Our part of the Valley isn’t fancy like Beaumont Hills, but who would want to live anywhere else? For one thing, we’ve got the canyon out back, open country that goes on and on, plus more lizards, javelinas and coyotes than you could shake a stick at. That’s something humans say, but I’ve gotten lots of sticks in my mouth and could have shaken them at all kinds of creatures if I’d wanted. Once I actually did shake a squirrel. Was that bad? I was so surprised I’d caught the little bugger, first and only time!
Another good thing about our place is that my bowls are in the kitchen. And then there’s Iggy. Iggy’s my pal. He lives next door with this old couple, Mr. and Mrs. Parsons. Not too long ago they got an electric fence and Iggy had some problems with it. Now he doesn’t come outside, just watches from the window, which was what he was doing when Bernie and I drove up. He barked and wagged his tail. I did the same. Iggy barked back and wagged some more. I did the same again. We could keep this up for ages, me and Iggy, and I was looking forward to that, when he suddenly disappeared from the front window. A few moments later he popped up in the side window. Maybe he could see me better from there or maybe – what was this? Now Iggy had something in his mouth, possibly a bedroom slipper. Yes, a bedroom slipper for sure. I wanted badly to take it away from him, but how could I? So when I heard Bernie saying, “For the last time, Chet, get in here,” I went bounding into the house.
“This calls for a celebration,” Bernie said. I knew celebrations – and wasn’t at all surprised when Bernie opened the cupboard over the sink and took out a bottle of bourbon – but why were we having one now? He also took out a box of chew strips from Rover and Company – a great company where I’d once spent some time in the testing kitchen – and tossed me one. Beef-flavored – I could tell while it was still spinning in mid-air. I caught it and darted under the kitchen table, like … like it was the bedroom slipper or something. I worked on the chew strip, a bit confused. An ice cube in Bernie’s glass made a tiny hiss and then a tiny crack. I loved when that happened. I forgot whatever I’d been worrying about and polished off that chew strip.

Here's a tip on watching any videos that might come along, if any were to: click in the little box in the lower right corner of the video (it has four arrows pointing to each corner) and the video will play in full-screen.

Wow!… To Fetch a Thief is going to be so awesome!….skipping!… I’m skipping!…I can hardly stand to wait for it!…woooo!
Molly!…What video are you talking about?….snort!

I took a look at the contest and the only one I knew was the one about the safe. I think I have to reread the first two before TFAT comes out just to be up to date. Also I got Dog On It from the library. For future quiz purposes I guess I better buy it.
I know nothing about boxers. That question is the one that will separate the dogs from the puppies. (Unless it is the kind men wear. I have a sewing pattern for them.) Heh

Oh Rio – Nothing special. I just like to give the 'Mollypop Tip of the Day' in case a video ever comes along.

Snuff!… I’m home alone again today…grunt!… My friend had to go into work and she was pissed…snort!… The busy place with busy season needed her… sniff!… I wanted to play in the garden today, but NO, I am stuck inside with nothing to do but hang out at Chet’s blog….grump!
5:23 am on June 26th, 2010
Hey Chet caught a fuzzbutt, too. Too bad Wookie and Casey wern't around to make things really interesting.
Rio, Dewey couldn't possibly be as good as anything written by Mr. A or Mr. Q. We are going to order his children's book when it comes out. Also will be preordering TFAT from Amazon.
Regarding Dewey. Wondering if there are 2 books about him. The one we saw, "Dewey, There's a Cat in the Library" was recommended as a young children's book. I think there was another book previosly written for older readers. Dewey lived in the library for 19 years and was named, obviously, for the Decimal System.
5:29 am on June 26th, 2010
Hey!… Good morning Ms. Bunny Buster!… heh! … If this book about Dewey is not up to par with anything the Charming Mr. Abrahams writes…..snort!…why do you go on about it so much? …grunt!
5:37 am on June 26th, 2010
Chet!… I’m wondering if Bernie is celebrating because he found out that Chet’s tumor was benign?… snort! …Wasn’t it in chapter 2 that he found out for sure??? … grunt!…Wake up Stover!
6:04 am on June 26th, 2010
Rio, Barb just wanted a little input from the well-read bloggers before she bought something for her grtandson. Didn't mean to go on and on. And we definitely intend to buy that Quacky book when it comes out.
Guess what we just watched from our front porch? A parade of about 80 tractors went by! Guess they were going to the next town for a festival. Every single one of the guys waved at me and mom. That's what you call excitement in the country!
6:04 am on June 26th, 2010
I'm awake, I'm awake. I'm convalescing and I still can't taste a thing….grump! (Good grief. Who do I sound like?)
In the post of February 6 ("This one's for Cosmo), we learn that the tumor is benign. It begins with Admin stating that it's from the end of Chapter 1 and the beginning of Chapter 2.
6:08 am on June 26th, 2010
I think I'm going to be alone too. I hope Mom leaves the laptop on when she leaves. As Siber-H says, I'll be unsupervised.
6:13 am on June 26th, 2010
B&M: In the farm country of Michigan (the thumb) where my mother grew up, they are having Ribstock weekend….ribs and country music. Lots of tractors around there as well.
6:15 am on June 26th, 2010
Wake up Rio:
The title is Sneak Peek: To Fetch a Thief. So this is Chapter Two of the new book. He's honored us with a peek. Mostly background that us veterans have seen before but there are a few juicy tidbits. By the way the Rockies won in the 11th inning last night. A real yawner.
6:18 am on June 26th, 2010
Wow!…Eighty tractors!…snort!… Were they all John Deere’s?…cough!… I wonder what kind of festival eighty tractors would be at….wheeze!…Somewhere around here there is a big ole thing starting with a fair and rodeo’s and music and food and beer and you-name-it ….grunt!… It goes on through the Fourth of July….sneeze!… On the 4th there is a big parade with those long horned steers running down the street!… yikes! ….First time I saw that I just about died of fright!
6:42 am on June 26th, 2010
Rio: I'd be a little leery of those long-horned steers myself.
B.Stover: You sound like Rio. Drink lots of liquids (not wine).
Barb and Maggie: A tractor parade, how cool. I drove a tractor at Staff's once. It was very exciting. Were there any old tractors in the parade?
6:50 am on June 26th, 2010
Hey everybody, Wolfers finally checking in! Am happy to report that my boys are doing awesome! Mom hasn't been home much because teenagers have lots of places to go to: football practice in the morning, later after noon, Recovery meetings, therapy, friends coming and going (and apparently none of these friends have parents who have cars because sometimes mutters about being a taxi service) and on and on. Today mom is taking the boys to the Big City (Fresno) to buy them some new clothes, so I'll be stuck at home by myself too!
Mom loaned her book out to her mom and GRANDMA STILL HAS IT!! So now mom has to buy a new one in the Big City today. Mom is not thrilled!
6:50 am on June 26th, 2010
Last summer my girl took me to a parade, no long-horned steers, just a marching band. Honestly I freaked. She held me real tight and then we moved far away from that awful racket.
7:00 am on June 26th, 2010
Oops, am rusty at blogging, looks like I dropped some words there. Sorry!
Melanie, I loved the photos of the puppies!! Those quilts are totally awesome! Is the Puppy Shower still on for July 10? Or the 16th? Rio – will you need help with the shower favors? I know that you have had much Sadness in your family. Let us know!
Bee – I'm sorry that you've been sick and I hope you are feeling better soon!
Melanie – did you get Gracie's lab results back yet?
There are two Dewey books. Mom has read the grown up one and it was very good. She liked the part where Dewey would ride around in the book cart, straddling the shelves. He also liked to climb up to the rafters and stare down at all the patrons.
"Making Rounds With Oscar" is another good book. Oscar is a Kat who lives at a nursing home, and has a unique sense of knowing when a patient was ready to cross over the Bridge. He is a tremendous source of comfort to both the patients and their families.
We also listened to "One Good Dog" and we all loved it!! Clap Clap Clap!! Not nearly as good as Chet but not bad either.
7:03 am on June 26th, 2010
Steer!….Bucky is the longhorn mascot this year!…snort!

7:03 am on June 26th, 2010
Oh yeah, my boy Cody brought a baby tabby Kat home from the football game last night. I think I am in love. Signed, Nursemaid Wolfie.
7:04 am on June 26th, 2010
Bucky's horns look scary. Run for your lives!
7:08 am on June 26th, 2010
Pshaw – did you know that some people think that dogs learn their personalities from their owners? As in they mimic the owner's personalities because they have none of their own.
Hogwash! Mom read that in a magazine and thinks that whoever wrote that has NEVER EVER been around dogs. Each dog has it's very own unique and wonderful personality that is a God Given gift. Just like humans.
7:15 am on June 26th, 2010
I want to be like Chet. And then join my Pack in a four footed way.
I hope Iggy isn't trying to tell Chet something important. If it is a bedroom slipper, where is the owner? Of course, if Iggy's house is like mine, if it's out, it's the Packs.
Ellie unpacked a guest's suitcase and then paraded around the house with the guest's underwear. Rose and Ros took two (yes, 2) of YSAS's cell phones. You would have thought he'd learn with the first. Shoes are a biggy, so are socks. Vaseline is not safe, neither is arnica rub.
When it comes to fuzzbutts and the Pack, they ignore them. They did chase the deer who decided to jump into the the play yard. He got away. Luckily, they were asleep when the black bear came through climbing the fence and then lumbered through the play yard to climb over again towards the river.
When the Pack woke up, they went NUTS! Tracked everywhere the bear had been.
7:19 am on June 26th, 2010
Wölfie! Each one of the Pack has a different personality. So if they take their personalities from the owners, Dan, Zoë and I multiple personality disorder!
Test not back yet, BUT the meds came in and IN JUST CASE MODE, we have put Gracie on the meds. Even before that, she was happy and wagging her tail, doing a bit of runnning (sort of hard to do right now) and eating everything in sight!
Glad your boys are doing well!
7:19 am on June 26th, 2010
Staff: You're so funny–boxers! Are we getting a video of Alice? Yes!
Dawson–I am drinking liquids. Thank you. You as well Wolfie. Good to hear from you.
Those Dewey books sound interesting. I'll have to look at them.
7:24 am on June 26th, 2010
We had a debate about Iggy and the bedroom slipper some months ago didn't we? As I recall, it was never settled.
7:26 am on June 26th, 2010
More power to you B. Stover! My memory is such that I have to put things out in plain sight so I remember to do them! I could make a list, but they disappear.
I blame the Pack.
7:31 am on June 26th, 2010
Melanie: Have you ever forgotten that you forgot something? That's even worse…I know!
7:41 am on June 26th, 2010
What's even worse is knowing that you forgot something but can't remember what you forgot.
Does anyone know the name of the movie that moves backwards in time. Something about a guy waking up with blood and he is trying to figure out what happened? I thought it was Momento but I can't find it in Netflix.
7:43 am on June 26th, 2010
Yes, I think we have all been worried about Iggy. I'm just wondering where he does his business if he's locked up inside.
I would hate being locked up all the time. I have Protection duties to perform, most of which involves barking at any car that drives by.
7:44 am on June 26th, 2010
Chet! Just take the chew strip and eat it! 😛 Who cares if you don't know what the celebration is about? You get a chew strip! 🙂 Eat well.
Today's Megan's birthday now. She's 13, and keeps on telling me that, like I forgot or something. She's very happy, and that makes me happy. And-for some reason-when I'm happy, Megan looks at me 'being weird' and laughs. So right now she's laughing and shoving some gum into her mouth.
Oh. Now she's offering some for me to lick-not chew. Ah, well, got to go now. Oh! Mint!! 😛

Alice!…She would be the kind of Kat who wants a video of herself.. yeesh!…What a show-off supermodel she is!…snort!
7:56 am on June 26th, 2010
Melanie: Ellie and the underwear. Makes me laugh. As does the Newfs sleeping through a bear wandering in their space.
WWWWW: Cody is a natural to be in some kind of rescue career.
B. Stover: We were all concerned about the elderly Parson's health. Now I think Iggy just makes a habit out of chewing up slippers whenever he can get his jaws on them.
8:00 am on June 26th, 2010
Wolfie!… It is called “Memento”….snort!…Awesome flick…. I think it was written by someone who knows Spencer personally… heh!

Rio – Thank you! You are my hero! Mom just subscribed to Netflix and now I get to watch all the movies I want to while the folks are at work and school.
Yippee!

Rio: You should be a charming host tomorrow and wag that lovely curly tail of yours at them.
9:49 am on June 26th, 2010
Thanks, guys! 🙂 Megan is EXTRA happy now!!
Bee, to insert a Bob, you use a semi-colon, and with no spaces, a ) parenthisis after it, to make a 🙂 Bob. Or, to make a 🙁 Bob, do the same thing, but with oppisite ( . Or, to make a 😛 Bob, instead of using a parenthisis, use a capital P.
Ha! 🙂 😛 Bob party!
Going to go to our town's fireworks later, an early celebration for the 4th of July. PLR is going to be there, and we're gonna make a shoutout!! 🙂
Barb&Maggie! Tell us how good those hot dogs are!!
It's kind of weird how Mommy's birthday was yesterday, and Megan's is today. It's like Megan was a birthday present for Mommy! Ha! 😛
Tailwags and licks. Lexi-a very happy puppy, thanks to you guys! 🙂
9:58 am on June 26th, 2010
Tractors, who knew there were so many kinds. These were all vintage, according to Mom. There were John Deere, Case, Farmall, Allis Chalmers and Olive. Maybe more. They had umberllas to keep cool, and most had American flags mounted on flag poles. These farmer guys love their tractors and think it is neat to restore and keep them. One old guy out here even got taken from the funeral home to grave site via his John Deere. Serious!

Wöökie and All,
The breeder who bred (duh) Eleanor saw the picture of the puppy quilt. Eleanor is one of the Great Grandmother's of these pups. And the father (Jonah) is also one of her breeders. She want's me to put a pic of Jonah and Grace on squares at the top of the quilt with an empty quilt piece in between.
Have to ask Bob (a different Bob, Lexi) for a picture!

Oh, I forgot to mention earlier (shades of earlier posting on memory), Chet shakes the squirrel! Shades of yesterday's remarks!
And someone asked if Clara dropped the skunk. Yes, she did. The skunk won. So did the porcupine that she later came in contact with.

Happy Birthday Megan.
Feel better Bee.
Melanie, Sounds like Gracie is over the hump. Thank goodness.
Mom is back from her shopping trip to the big town nearby. She is all excited because she found Hebrew National hot dogs on SALE. Oh boy. She also went to a book sale and found one of P.A.’s books that she hadn’t yet read. A Perfect Crime. Has anyone read it? Is it a good read? Heh!
I am not all that excited about the book, but the hot dogs, that’s another story. We have a deal me and Mom, I sit real nice and act like a well behaved dog, then I always get the last bite or two. Plus I get to lick the plate. Of course, she never leave her plate unattended. Not sure why.

We are not going to try the Bobs. Barb will never be able to figure it out. She is too old for hi tech!!!
There is a show that looks good on Hallmark tonight at 8:00 ct, called You Lucky Dog. It's about a dog that is trained to herd, than rescues some lost children. Mom says it is too bad they used a Border Collie in the role, rather than an English Shepherd, which is my pack. We are herding dog but we also excell at SAR. My half brother, Tugg, does SAR and he just found his first drowning victim, an elderly fisherman. It was sad, but the family was relieved to find him.

Forgot to ask Rio, in what way is your friend's sister's family smelly? Being a dog, I like all kinds of smells. Do they smell in a good way (lemon and soap and a hint of dog biscuits) or in a bad way, like old cheese or toe jams?

Snort!… I’m too cool for my tail!…heh!

Wow, you guys amaze me. Barb can only use her cell phone to make phone calls – no texting, no pics. See how limited we are? Better go sit on the front porch and watch for old guys going by on tractors.

Sniff!…It is raining again!…snort!…This time even harder – we fear hail will be next…grunt!… It’s a good cool night for some cookin’…heh!…She has 3 balls of noodle dough made now and they are resting…snort!… Next comes the rollin’ out and cutting and stuffing.. grunt!..The hard part!..whew!…I have seen this many times before!

Rio: She's making homemade ravioli? I'm extremely impressed.
2:43 pm on June 26th, 2010
Rio: Me too. And hungry.
2:49 pm on June 26th, 2010
Snuff!… Its never been call Ravioli, although it seems to be something like that…grunt!… Its an old timey recipe she learned from her Great Grandma – mother of her grandma… snort!…It’s a German recipe called “Case Noodle”, which doesn’t describe it at all… heh! … I have no idea what it tastes like because NO ONE ever shares with me… grump!
2:51 pm on June 26th, 2010
B., Rio, being too cool for his tail, did it right away. He saved it on his computer and then uploaded it as a file.
It's a lot of work, if you ask me, but they are cutie pie Bobs. Molly said this blog is not very up-to-date with technology.
2:53 pm on June 26th, 2010
Wha?… She says it’s a savory dish, whatever that means….snort!…It goes well with German sausage and a salad…heh!
2:55 pm on June 26th, 2010
Sammie!… Your Auntie Molly is being kind…heh!heh!… But I still love it here in this old-fashioned place….snort!…I actually like it better this way…sniff!…It is comfortable here.

Detroit Tigers:
I took a little nap and when I woke up it was the bottom of the 9th. The Tigers were losing 4 – 2 but they had the bases loaded. Then the pitcher walked one run in 4 – 3 and the coach went out to speak to the pitcher so I jumped over to Chet and got distracted. Long Story short – final score 4 – 3. Crapoli, ravioli.
3:21 pm on June 26th, 2010
Dawson!…That’s okay! You can watch a winning ball team tonight with me…heh!… It starts in about 1 ½ hours… snort!…She has a lot of cooking to do before then!…yikes!…That good lookin’ Timothy Olyphant distracted her…
3:27 pm on June 26th, 2010
What time does the game start?
3:28 pm on June 26th, 2010
Dawson, They got the equipment out this afternoon. Now another rain is coming. We will attempt the Bob tomorrow. Tonight we are going to relax and watch Last Chance Highway (Rio's recommendation) and then You Lucky Dog on Hallmark. Rio, that noodle thing sounds very, very good.
4:12 pm on June 26th, 2010
~Barb and Maggie, Wow. 80 tractors! You must live on a busy road. Our road doesn't go anywhere and we only see the neighbor's (or our) tractors. Of course they would wave. They are proud of their tractors. There is a whole waving science out here in North Dakota. Heh. I had to learn it when I moved here 20 years ago.
~Wolfie, Tabby cats are irresistible!
~BStover. Where in the thumb? I lived in Harbor Beach until I was nine. Dawson lived there until she was 5/6. Bet she doesn't remember much about it. Hey cool winking Bob there Stover! 😉
~Sam Wow, too many Bob's for me. I am outBob'd
~Rio, you are making me hungry. Better go eat.
~Dawson, too bad about the Tigers. Heh. Maybe next time. I am sure glad we didn't lose the 5th game. Four in a row was bad enough.
We went to a Bluegrass Festival again today. This one was in Fort Ransom park in South-eastern North Dakota. It didn't rain but it sure looked bad for a while there. We had a nice time.
>^..^<

Awww..Rio, I can't follow the game tonight. Mom has to go pick up a dog and take it to Husky Rescue. This was unexpected. See all of you tomorrow!

4:38 pm on June 26th, 2010
Awww! …Shucks Siberh!…grump!…Well, It doesn’t start until 8:00 so you may get back in time to see the 20th inning…snort!… The way these games are going lately it may not end till tomorrow sometime…heh!
4:53 pm on June 26th, 2010
Crap!… I finally got fed in the middle of all that cooking…grump!…Now I need to go OUT! OUT! OUT! before the game starts….snort!…Like NOW NOW NOW!…yeep!yeep!
4:54 pm on June 26th, 2010
Staff, No we don't live on a busy road at all – it is a gravel road (as opposed to a "hard road"). These guys were traveling all together to a festival in a town about 8 miles away. Normally we would see about 6 tractors a day.
4:55 pm on June 26th, 2010
Hey!…Alice!…What the hell!…What did you .blah blah blah!blah!blah!… So his ass is outside for awhile, then the game will start so he will be distracted. Here is the last of the 3 videos I was able to get. This one has Pepper in it. She sort of dashed into the picture unexpectedly. But you can at least see her ‘live’. All the while Rio is still begging for cookies. Remember do not say anything! – Rio’s friend who has a nifty new camera.

5:40 pm on June 26th, 2010
Rio: If only Detroit could've hit a Grand Slam in the 9th inning. They had their chance.
5:51 pm on June 26th, 2010

6:11 pm on June 26th, 2010
Rio: Me too, these late nights are killing me. Last night I was in bed tossing and turning and not sleeping so I got back up. It was all worth it since the Rockies won.
6:24 pm on June 26th, 2010
Ugh!…Don’t tell us about Toss’n and a Turn’n….sniff-we-know!… Are you still at the conference or are you home?… snort!… It is 4 – 2 Angels, top of the 5th…ugh!
Tomorrow!… These people from Iowa are going to show up and make her mom feel really bad…snort!… I just know it….grump! … My friend just cooked and cooked for them tonight, but they won’t appreciate it…grump!… I have seen this scenario over and over for all the years I have been alive… snort!…Nothing ever changes… sniff! …But her and her mom always go out of their way for these people… grump! … If it were up to me, I would say “Stay the Hell Home!”… “We don’t Need or Want You”… So there. …grump!
6:56 pm on June 26th, 2010
SiberH!…I miss my baseball pal…gosh!…I hope his journey tonight is safe and sound…snort!…He is helping rescue one of the nation within the nation and that is very honorable indeed!… salute!.. sniff! sneeze!
Rockies!…It is still 4 – 2 bottom of the 7th!…yeesh!…Come on! The Angels do not bring out the best of our team like the Red Sox do!….heh!
7:58 pm on June 26th, 2010
Barb and Bunny Buster:
Even lo-tek me did a bob. Just typed a semi-colon and a parenthesis and the yellow part showed up by itself once the message was posted. 😉 oh and leave a space before and after the bob. I would’ve loved to see all those vintage tractors. Do you still have machinery stuck in your yard? ;(
7:02 pm on June 26th, 2010
Rio: I am at my home sweet home. I would appreciate your friends homemade Case Noodle and the hard work she put into it, if only I could taste it.
Time for the Rockies to make their move. Go Rockies!
7:16 pm on June 26th, 2010
Arrgh!…Time indeed, Dawson!…grunt!… It is bottom of the Eighth now! and the score is STILL 4 – 2 Angels….crap!…Although, Cook is striking them out pretty quickly right now…heh!… Please do something!…OH..Top of the nineth coming on up…Cook did good!…Now the offense needs to wake up!..growl!
7:32 pm on June 26th, 2010
Darn!
Rio: Take care of your friend tomorrow and try to keep those Iowans from annoying the hell out of her. Maybe you could clear the room at a critical moment with one of your silent but deadlies.
Or Lexi could come over and nip and bite a few heels. We on the blog are all behind you and will do whatever it takes. Just say the word.
7:34 pm on June 26th, 2010
Weird!…we went to the kitchen and then suddenly the Rockies Lost!…snort!… This is confusing to me…grump…Maybe we fell asleep? … I don’t know…snuff!…We are going to bed now…. grumpy!
Good night all! See you tomorrow I hope!
7:38 pm on June 26th, 2010
Dawson!..That is a good idea!…snort!..Sometimes I forget the power of the Silent But Deadly weapon of mass room-clearing I have at my control….heh!
