Sneak Peek: The Dog Who Knew Too Much (Coming Sept. 6)
Nothing like being at home, except when we’re on some adventure, when it turns out there’s nothing like that, too. Home is our place on Mesquite Road. That’s in the Valley, which goes on just about forever in all directions. We’ve got two bedrooms—the second one’s Charlie’s, the bed all made for whenever the next every-second-weekend rolls around—plus the office and other rooms I’ll have to describe later, because right now I was sniffing at the crack under the front door, which I do every morning, part of my job.
A squirrel had been by, and not long ago. That bothered me. I hurried to the long window beside the door and gazed out. We’ve got three trees in front of the house. The middle one’s my favorite for lying under, and that was where the squirrel, chubby and gray, tail raised in a very annoying way, was busy burying something. The next thing I knew I was standing straight up, front paws on the glass, barking my head off. The squirrel shot up the tree without a backward glance: burying things under that tree is my department, little pal.
“Chet! What’s all the fuss?”
Bernie was up? I hadn’t even heard him. That was bad. I slid down off the window real fast and smooth, like I’d never been up there at all. Bernie came over and gazed out, giving me a pat at the same time. His hair was standing out in clumps here and there; one eyebrow was crooked; he wore what Leda had always called his ratty robe, although there wasn’t a single rat on it, just a pattern of martini glasses with long-legged women sitting in them. In short, he looked great.
Welcome Trigger, Dayton, Austin.

Good morning, y’all! Aaah, those rotten fuzzbutts! They’re all around here, too, Chet. And you may remember we even had one living in our house for awhile. But we kind of had a truce. Most times. Otherwise I would have driven Mom and Dad crazy with barking. And it doesn’t do to annoy the hands that feed you!!!
9:11 am on August 22nd, 2011
By the way, Mom has already been to the tire place, and she was surprised how fast it took to get the new tires on. She said something about hoping the guy got all the lugnuts back on. I’ve tried peanuts before and they’re delicious, but I’ve never had a lugnut. Are they any good?
9:19 am on August 22nd, 2011
We don’t have fuzz butts here. Must be because Gus Puppy and I do such a great job of keeping them at bay.
What we did have is wild boars. They came and stayed just long enough to destroy our front yard. That wasn’t our fault. Those beasties snuck in while Gus and I were sound asleep.
9:20 am on August 22nd, 2011
15 days and counting.
Sigh.
9:24 am on August 22nd, 2011
Good morning, Wolfie! I’m sorry about your yard. But what would you have done if those wild boars came while you were awake? Those things scare me, mostly because they’re bigger than I am. Let’s face it, just about everyone’s bigger than I am!
9:39 am on August 22nd, 2011
((Sigh!))….15 long miserable days….grunt!
9:46 am on August 22nd, 2011
Kirby, I have never heard of lug nuts either. I do enjoy eating peanuts, not that mom ever shares. Sigh.
9:49 am on August 22nd, 2011
Still here! That was an interesting night. I now know that if my right hip gives out on me it’s going to be VERY server weather. Weird, this body of mine.
The funnel cloud passed just north of us. Like one mile. But thanks to The Royals’ Mum we knew about the warning and could watch what was going on.
15 days . . .
Oh, we don’t have fuzzbutts right here at our house, we have chipmunks!
Charlie is cute. He is a food hound. We have several here.
I was going to comment on something else from last night, but it’s time to pick up Jesse!
9:50 am on August 22nd, 2011
Package!!….Heh! Staff should be getting a package today!….snort! snort !….Let’s see, I have the Delivery Confirmation ticket that she forgot to take to the busy place with her…heh!
9:52 am on August 22nd, 2011
15 days is better than 15 months.
Good morning Chet and all.
9:52 am on August 22nd, 2011
I don’t know if anyone has posted this before, but a friend of Mom’s showed this to her. Been there, done that! (Not that I’d admit that to Mom and Dad, of course!)

That was great!
9:59 am on August 22nd, 2011
Good morning. Can not wait for Sept. 6th And that will be an early birthday pres. for Barb, who is going to be very, very old on 9/12.
We don’t have fuzzbutts either, something to do with not having the right kind of trees. There are tons of them in town where they have hickory and oak trees, but we only have maple. FBs don’t like maple.
I heard Chet mention rats too, one of my personal favorites. However, had not had the pleasure for awhile. I dug a huge hole in the yard, chasing a chipmunk. Never did catch the little stinker.
Nuts – Barb likes to have an ice cream sandwich sometimes at night. She adds some vanilla ice cream to the side and peanuts. She shares some of that with me, and it is delish. No chocolate, of course. Bad for doggies.
10:12 am on August 22nd, 2011
Maggie: One time when Dad was in Somalia, Mom bought a box of Valentine’s Day chocolates to send to him, but Buford went counter surfing and ate the whole box by himself. Mom got all scared and called the vet, but luckily they were milk chocolates and there weren’t a whole lot of them. (Mom was afraid it would be too hot in Somalia and the chocolates would melt, so she bought a small box just in case.) And Buford was a big dog, so the vet just said to keep an eye on him, but he never had any problems. But because of that, Mom is extra vigilant about not letting me have chocolate. Dagnabbit! I understand it’s really delicious stuff!!!
10:14 am on August 22nd, 2011
USPS!….My sources at the post office in Minneapolis say the package is in the truck and on its way to be delivered….woooo!
10:17 am on August 22nd, 2011
Rio: You have sources? Cool!
10:17 am on August 22nd, 2011
Kirby – That video is so funny!
MagPie! In our area, the fuzzbutts love the maple trees. There are so many fuzzbutts making nests in the trees and making a huge mess of the yard. The fuzzbutt bites off a small twig with leaves attached to make the nest, but, oops, drops it, then just goes to get another one.
10:20 am on August 22nd, 2011
That is funny KirbyT! Our Pack would just completely ignore us or say “What mess? Looks fine to us.”
Oh, and from last night, toys. . . Our Newf visitor, Sawyer, went through the house and found all the toys and brought them to us. He certainly was cute.
10:21 am on August 22nd, 2011
Rebecca: Thank you for the picture of Charlie. He is so smart! The food bag would made and excellent pillow and think of all the wonderful smells!
I have squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and lots and lots of birds here….also opossum, raccoon and the occasional fox. At the Florida condo there are snakes and cockroaches–called “palmetto bugs” and geikos.
10:26 am on August 22nd, 2011
Bee: We have palmetto bugs, too! Mostly because we live in “The Palmetto State”! When Mom first moved here she’d never heard of palmetto bugs before. But then she found out it was just a prettier name for a cockroach. And didn’t that Shakespeare guy have a quote about “A bug by any other name would still be as gross”?
10:29 am on August 22nd, 2011
Boot-Camp!….You can tell those three guys in the video have never been through “Wookie Boot-Camp Training”….grunt!… First rule is you never ever rat on your pals. Second rule is you never ever slink away in shame even if you are guilty…sniff! …You hold your head high and deny all wrong doing….heh!
10:33 am on August 22nd, 2011
A friend sent this picture on to us because of our pool.

I have a feeling any of our dogs would just sink this . . .
10:33 am on August 22nd, 2011
Rio: Some dogs have a conscious!
10:35 am on August 22nd, 2011
Kirby!…A what!??…snort!
10:35 am on August 22nd, 2011
Melanie: That dog looks pretty darn comfortable!!! Almost makes me want to go swimming. Almost.
10:36 am on August 22nd, 2011
Kirby, Loved that video. That doggy should never had admitted that she made the mess. Then who would know?
Molly, we have had squirrels passing through, but they never stay. Always thought it was because they didn’t like the trees, but maybe it is really becuase of me!
10:41 am on August 22nd, 2011
I think Siber-H might like that. He could be in water and not get wet!
Down the street where the dogs don’t get as Poodle-up as our Pack, there are fuzzbutts. They enjoy the Sugar Maples in the spring. They will bite off a twig and the sap will make a sapsicle. They will then lick it or break it off and take it away.
10:44 am on August 22nd, 2011
Snowhook has a new post up! A cover girl!
10:46 am on August 22nd, 2011
My dogs will be really dragging at the end of a hike and then a fuzzbutt (or rabbit) comes along and off they go so fast and determined–usually to get scolded by the fuzzbutt up a tree.
10:47 am on August 22nd, 2011
Kirby: You’re making me laugh. As I understand it, cockroaches are one of the oldest living “animals” going back to the times of dinosaurs. I’ve never checked that out.
My take on the video is that the human seeing how awful the guilty dog feels would not be mad at him.
10:53 am on August 22nd, 2011
Hey, Charris! It’s so getting pretty late here, but I’m guessing you’re just getting ready for school. Dad’s first day of school is today. He wasn’t looking forward to it, because he has school, then football practice, then duty tonight. Makes for a long day! Then the rest of the days this week the football team has two-a-days, which means he has to be at practice at 6 o’clock in the morning. And he had to trade duties, so he has duty again Wednesday night. And then he has to go to a football game Friday night to do some scouting. And then they have Saturday classes. It’s going to be a loooong week for Dad. I’ll have to be extra nice to him!!!
10:58 am on August 22nd, 2011
Jeez I better get out of my jammies and start looking decent if I have to answer the door soon.
11:02 am on August 22nd, 2011
Staff: Definitely. According to Rio’s sources, that could be anytime now! It’s so much easier being a dog. We don’t have to worry about that clothing thing. Although I do like to put on my jacket when it’s a bit nippy out!!!
11:11 am on August 22nd, 2011
Staff! ….My sources say the package should arrive around the same time you usually get your bills and other junk mail…heh!….Get dressed and be ready for anything!…sniff!…. You may have to tackle a few goats so wear some gloves…snort!
11:13 am on August 22nd, 2011
When I got the Funky Chicken quilt it came at 9:30 in the morning but Wookie’s Dad had warned me so I was ready. Good thing Rio mentioned it earlier 🙂
It is garbage and recycling day today and every time a garbarge truck stops outside I think it is UPS>
Speaking of Wookie, Will you tell Debbie L-M to let me know how the booties are made when she figures it out. I might could push myself to the sewing machine once she has done all the work on the pattern. 😀

No, Melanie, No…the photo, NO
Chipmunks are new to our area. We once saw them only in the mountains. They are very speedy little creatures.
We don’t have wild boars either, but they have moved into southern NM. I’m waiting on them to show up here.
That is a funny video, Kirby.
11:21 am on August 22nd, 2011
Staff: I think Rio said that the package will arrive by USPS (regular mail) rather than by UPS.
11:26 am on August 22nd, 2011
Well all youse guys, it’s been lovely chatting with you this morning, but Mom’s making me turn off the computer so she can go to work. Sigh! Maybe I’ll be back tonight.
11:30 am on August 22nd, 2011
Staff!…Check your SDD- via Gmail….grunt!
11:39 am on August 22nd, 2011
The patch is on Snowhook’s blog now also.
11:52 am on August 22nd, 2011
No wild boars here. A few wild bores, but hey, I can avoid them.
A mountain lion was killed by a car in CT this summer. Everyone was excited that it might be a catamount, but DNA tests showed it came from North Dakota.
Now that is a lion with a

OH NO!!! The Goats might have gotten our packages!
Mama sent 5 boxes home from New Mexico. She sent them all the same day, at the same time, with a shipping company that sounds like a past government official.
Today – 3 of the packages showed up. The other 2 are missing!!!
The tracking numbers show 3 delivered and 2 “on schedule” for delivery today.
But this is a small town….we only get one shipping truck a day. WWWAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
The shipping company won’t even look for them for 24 hours!!!
Even when we told them about the Goats possibly holding them captive.
12:26 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Dear Rio,
YOu can relax. No goats found the fan package. It was delivered about 15 minutes ago. My thought is that the excessive amount of packing peanuts and bubble wrap confused the goats so much that they were diverted to Tupper and Gilly’s packages.
Heh
AND Rio’s friend…
The little extra quilling piece for Staff is just perfect. You used green and pink for the mats and those are the colors in Staff’s living room at the farm. It will fit in perfectly. thank you, thank you, thank you!

Autumn in the ‘lane’ leading to our farm….

Mostly box elders and some ancient cottonwoods. Ancient around here is about 120 years.
12:31 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Woooooo!…. What a relief!….snort!…No broken glass to pick out of tiny bits of paper….snorkel! ….And now Staff has enough packing material for all of her Christmas presents….grunt!
Staff!…My friend says she is very happy you like the little Extra Project she made especially for you….snort!…She thought you could frame it yourself and that way she didn’t have to buy another roll of bubble wrap….wheeze!
12:35 pm on August 22nd, 2011
WANT PICTURE OF LITTLE EXTRA PROJECT! Please?
12:37 pm on August 22nd, 2011
LOL!! LOL!!! I can just imagine all of the packing material that Staff now has. (Glad the fan arrived safely.)
12:38 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Photo!…I also sent Dawson a Pawtographed photo…snort!…But I used a pen instead of my paw…heh!
12:44 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Staff!…You should take a photo of all the packing material you now own…heh!…and post it for Stover to see…sniff!
12:47 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Rio – Staff didn’t mention your photo. Maybe the goats got it?
12:49 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Yeep!…I posed and everything for that photo…grunt!grumble!…Using that pen was no walk in the park either…gruffle!
12:55 pm on August 22nd, 2011
well let’s see if this works. I took it under natural light and cropped it so only the quilling shows in order to preserve the privacy of Rio’s friend.
1:00 pm on August 22nd, 2011
I knew you were going to ask about the packing material. Here it is neatly folded on top of the box FULL of packing peanuts. I wonder if we could fool Rocky the Squirrel with packing peanuts?

The ruler at the bottom of the box is 18 inches long. Just to give you an idea of the size.
1:09 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Goats!…. Hey! My photo did make it!…heh!….The Goats have been thwarted once again. Good job, Agent Wigglebutt…snort! snort!
1:20 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Colors!….My friend says the colors look a little funky-chicken in that photo Staff took….grunt!… She says she hopes it looks better in person…sniff!

1:46 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Beautiful job of quilling. And Riö your posing is wonderful.
2:02 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Posing!… The one taking the photo kept telling me to “smile” but I wasn’t in the mood to smile…grunt!….Then she said something like, “Turn that frown upside down.”….sniff!….That made me even more grumpy…snort! ….Finally she just took the damned photo.
2:03 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Ms. Staff, my Momma says that the sewing on the booties is pretty straightforward. Something about straight seams and an overlock stitch and putting on an elastic version of Velcro. If you would like Mom could send you the template and what she figures out she will send via an SDD. She had permission from Whitey-Lance to take one of his team members booties apart and figure it out. Rebecca will supply materials But it still saves them a lot of money. I think it was about the cost of a hundred million Greenies or something like that. I will supervise and Alice or Abby can get instructions from me on what they need to make sure you do. Your friend Wookie
2:33 pm on August 22nd, 2011
You guys are cracking me up. (The quilling is beautiful.)
3:04 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Oh by the way, I forgot to mention the special treat that my mom got for my dad last week. She had read in the newspaper that, for one week only, two grocery stores in the area (Harris Teeter and Wegmans) were both featuring Hatch chilis from New Mexico. So she went to Harris Teeter and got a whole bunch of them, which she roasted and we now have green chilis galore (she even froze some of them so we will have them later as well). They are pretty hot but my dad thought they were really yummy. This may not appeal to everyone, but I thought at least Rio and his friend, SiberH and T&G’s mom would find it of interest. Wookie
3:05 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Wookie,
Don’t forget that we want to sew booties also.
3:10 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Chilis!…. Wookie you just reminded me to remind someone else about going to the farmers market this weekend and getting some of those chilis…..snort!…. We still have some left from last year, but will definitely need more for this coming winter. Just thinking about them makes my pug-eyes water…snuffle!

Rio, The quilling and the pink and green colors are beautiful and your photo is CUTE.
Wookie, I’m so glad that some green chili found its way to your grocery stores. The stores here have just started roasting them in their parking lots for people. It sure smells good….it smells like the end of summer.

Jesse is a very talented Jack Russell.
4:04 pm on August 22nd, 2011
I want to know one thing. What happened to my good friend Rose?
She hasn’t posted for a couple of days. I hope she is okay.
4:25 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Macy – I don’t want Mom to watch that video. That dog is just a show-off. Yawn.
4:26 pm on August 22nd, 2011
That was a very sweet, thoughtful gift the Rio’s friend made for Staff, and beautiful too. Hours and hours of work I bet.
And ok, we will agree the picture is cute, too.
Someone mentioned ywesterday having a lot of blossoms on their zucchini planta. Yes, they will produce more zukes if they are female blossoms. The male blossoms are just a flower. The female blossoms have a tiny little zuke behind them, which turns into the vegetable. As usual the females do most of the work, and the guys skate by!
4:28 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Masquers, Rose is a good friend of mine too. She is a good person…she likes snow. I miss her.
4:33 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Wolfie — We will definitely keep you in the loop on the bootie front as well. Mom is still trying to sort things out in terms of design etc. and is exchanging SDD messages with Rebecca on a regular basis now.
Rio – please be sure to tell you friend that the additional quilling project she sent to Staff is awesomely beautiful. Nice photo too.

Russell!…. That guy is more than a show-off, he is a Kiss-Ass and on top of that he has a Brown Nose…grunt!
4:45 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Wow!
Today’s posting is vintage Chet and Bernie. 🙂
I’m impressed with the USPS…and with the packing skills of Rio’s friend. They rival her quilling abilities. I am looking forward to seeing The Fan in person. Rio must have an “in” with the USPS.
Chet’s Friends: Is that the Trigger that is the counter surfing pro? He is very handsome as is Dayton but what is that strange animal with Austin? That isn’t a fuzzbutt I know.
I love the mystery of the mess, the dog in the pool and Staff’s fall picture of the lane. Jesse the Jack Russell made me dizzy.
Oh boy!
I’m going to start White Wings by Dan Montague today because I have kind of a day off.
5:24 pm on August 22nd, 2011
um, Debbie L-M. Ah (cough cough)overlock stitch? I only have straight stitch machines here. At the farm I have one that does a zig-zag stitch. Would that work? Overlock sounds like serger work to me?
Hopefully I am wrong.
5:27 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Hotels!….Well, our hotel rooms are booked…sniff!…There is no turning back now because if we cancel we lose all of her money…gulp!….We are going to Iowa come hell or high water this Sept….grunt!…I think someone has fallen into an even deeper blue funk….sniffle!

TECHNICAL SEWING ALERT! The overlock stitch is the #10 on the Bernina (uses presser foot #2) Basically it is a sort of zig zag stitch that makes what looks like a serger stitch and has its attributes (for finishing a seam without rolling or cutting it) without using a serger. Rebecca seemed indicate that a zig zag stitch is also OK. Hope that helps Staff.
5:52 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Now I want to know what a “serger stitch” is……
5:55 pm on August 22nd, 2011
LitStack!….That Barry A Bone guy was asking about The Charming Mr. Abrahams other books….heh!…My friend tried to answer him.…sniff! …. Spokony took some ribbing from a friend or colleague under the Dog On It review after we all left apparently…heh! …Its under the Dawson Munch-Munch comment…snorkel!
6:12 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Whoa, I have no idea what Debbie LM’s 5:50 pm comment meant at all.
Remember the Eagles we were watching? The same guy has a camera at a Red Tail Hawk nest. The pair is building the nest and the camera will be there as they do that and then into next year when they lay, brood and the eggs hatch!

Rio, your friend’s quilling is beautiful, and we love your picture.
We’re still laughing at The Mess video. What a couple of rat finks Cody and Murphy are. Poor Maggie having to put up with those guys.
7:10 pm on August 22nd, 2011
B. a serger stitch is the kind of finish you see on less expensive clothing inside seams. It basically looks like a series of “W’s” or loops that are closed off with a straight line on the top and bottom.
7:14 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Thanks Debbie. I know what that looks like now.
7:14 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Siber-H: We looked up “A Dog’s Purpose” on Amazon – 541 Five Star Reviews. Very impressive!
Very tired here. Turning in early.
7:15 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Debbie: Is the serger similar to the blanket stitch?
7:18 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Hi Dawson!
7:38 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Well, we have to read A Dog’s Purpose. This looks like a do-not-miss book. However, we have a book to finish and then our C&B will be here so that will have to wait.
Our time is taken up starting Thursday when we go to Sam’s house for the final packing and trip to you-know-where.
7:55 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Hi Trigger!
I hope Dawson is enjoying Dan’s book. I’m going to bed. No storms tonight!
I just finished shopping and bought a pair of Propet sneakers. They look cool. Not purple though, but it is getting to be colder and my purple sneakers will get chilly.
I am out of here! Look forward to catching up in the morning.

Nerves!….Suddenly everybody is on everybody else’s nerves around here…grunt!…Her mother works herself silly all day long doing gawd knows what, and now her knee is very very sore and she is cranky…snort!… I think her knee hurts because she drags those heavy garden hoses around all over the place. She is constantly watering stuff day in and day out…snort!… In the basement it drives my friend insane. The constant whine of the water turned on all the freakin’ time!…wheeze!… Then tonight when we were out on the patio reading about Mitford, her mother came out and with clenched teeth said, “You are parked on my hose!”…..sneeze!…Well! My friend had to go move her car exactly 1 inch off that damned hose which was strewn out farther than usual in the driveway…heh!…It was all flat and funny looking when her mother picked it up and looked at it….snorkel!
8:56 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Hi Trigger! Do you counter-surf whole meat-loafs?
I went off to read Dan’s book but closed my eyes (just for a minute!) and had a long nap.
The roofers showed up bright and early at 10:30ish, did a slow and expletive-filled hour of work, broke for lunch and have been AWOL since.
I have a pawprinted photo of Rio being a grump? I love it!
9:16 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Hey Debbie L-M
Well I do have a Bernina 831. That is the cheap version of the 830 and I bought it new in 1971. Unfortunately the cheap version only has 5 stitches on it but one looks like a zig-zag with a line of straight stitching next to it. That might be what I need. Otherwise I can just use the zig-zag.
Even though it is a newer machine it is a really good one. When I looked them up on eBay to see if I could find one for sale I saw they were selling now for twice what I paid for mine brand new. Heh. Can’t beat that after 40 years of use!
(I was worried I needed a serger.) So not going to happen.
9:18 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Heh, Dawson, It looks like you have a dog-friend. 🙂

Hi everyone – well, the Goats didn’t get our packages either. The same Fed Ex guy came back tonight with our other two boxes. Seems they were on the bottom layer, and the driver didn’t know they were there. Whew
Then Melanie called tonight. Seems they were having Chinese food for dinner…except the rice got left on the counter. And then POOF! it was gone. Another graduate of Counter Surfing 101.

We just looked up A Dog’s Purpose on Amazon. We don’t think we will be ordering that one…our mom couldn’t take that story we are afraid. Sounds much too sad for her. (whispering) She is a really weenie.
9:50 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Fellow Siberians, So is my mom. To tell you the truth, mom would have been just as happy if she had never read that book.
9:57 pm on August 22nd, 2011
POOF!…heh!snort!heh!…. wheeze!….cough!….We just got back from the Brutal Walk and read about the rice missing off the counter…..chorkel!….I still haven’t received my first lesson and others are already graduating with honors…grumble!
Rockies!…Hey! The Rockies are ahead 7 to 2 top of the 5th inning…wooooo!
10:00 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Add our Mama to the weenie list too.
10:02 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Good night all.
10:03 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Rio – if I get on your shoulders, and Gilly gets on my shoulders, maybe we could do Coffee Table Surfing. Or if we enlist Jasper, Kirby and Macy….maybe, just maybe we could get up to that counter top.
10:04 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Stover!…She took us to the dark-side and then went to bed….wuffle! ….It’s actually past her bedtime tonight…sniff!…She was probably up late figuring out ways to torture her students….heh!
10:06 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Tupper!…I don’t think so!….snort!…Your plan puts me on the bottom of this wibbly wobbly ladder and that is no where near the food…grunt!
10:23 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Well then, that’s that. Mom isn’t going to read that book either.
10:27 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Rio – where do you think the food is going to land when we knock it off the counter??
Gilly has a rule – anything that falls on the floor is legally hers. But if you were the base of our “food pyramid”, you would have first crack!
10:29 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Rio: The stoutest dog should be on the bottom plus you have a flat head that would be easy to balance on. Then you could give a little jiggle at the crucial moment and the food would fall right in front of you. This is probably all covered in Counter Surfing 101.
10:46 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Guess who just showed up. The roofers! I guess they are trying to avoid the heat of the day. What a couple of jokers, they are. They are pushing all the old roof off the edge trying to hit a trailer down below but great slabs are landing on the lilac tree which unbeknownst to them (methinks there is very little that is knownst to them) I have been trying to kill for years. The man who hired them will not be entrusted with this job ever again!
10:51 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Surfing!….I think ole Tupper is making all this stuff up…snort!…..Heck, she hasn’t been to the class yet either…sniff! ….When all the food falls, I won’t be able to get to it because there will be a Corgie sitting on my head ….grunt!…By the time Tupper gets off, Gilly will have gobbled everything up….grump!
10:56 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Toy!….Here is my brand new baseball toy!…..Wooooo!…..I love, love love it….snort!….Now I get to sleep with it since she finally got a decent photo of me and this toy on the big bed….chuffle! …Isn’t it a beauty?…snorkel!
10:58 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Dawson: Mom and Dad were worried about our roof because it had holes in it and it would leak whenever it rained. But then they got a new roof put on, and now when it rains they just think about how nice it is not to have any leaks — except one place around the chimney that still leaks when the rain is really, really bad. Unfortunately, we may have really, really bad weather heading our way. We are in the “cone of concern” for Hurricane Irene. Now Mom has to hunt down all the flashlights and batteries. She keeps buying them every year for hurricane season, and every year they seem to disappear. There must be about fifty flashlights in this place, but we can never find one when we need it!

Rio. What a great toy! I fully understand why you were so anxious to get the picture taken so that your friend would let you sleep with it. Toys like that are very, very important to us members of the nation within a nation. I am very attached to my three hedgehogs and my two lammies. Wookie

Rio and Wookie – Gilly’s favorite toy is a white lobster with a squeaker. Tipper just prefers to carry her best bone around.
11:20 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Rio – If Natasha dresses up as baseball, vould you catch her?
11:20 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Dawson, Let us know what time the roofers leave tonight. Bedtime is a really srange time to show up.
Rio, That is a really good photo of you and I love the baseball toy. All it needs on it now is a little dirt.
I have been so relaxed watching this baseball game that it made me sleepy. Rockies are gonna win it!!
Kirby, Be Prepared! Wish you could send some of the rain this way.
Yawn…good night folks

Staff, thank you for the address and contact info on the Wellesley Book signing. Mom will definitely get her copy ordered.
Rio, that is a very handsome baseball toy. Will another toy get pushed out of your bed to make room for it? We remember you like everything in just the right place.
That Jack Russell is a bit of a show off. Golly, what can’t he do?
Macy, are we EVER going to get any rain here in Texas???
11:22 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Carp- A Dog’s Purpose has been sitting on my Kindle for a few weeks now. I wonder if I can return it because it sounds too sad?
11:23 pm on August 22nd, 2011

Honestly – how can a doggie type with such long nails?
(hey Natasha – we had a double post)
11:25 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Night!…Me and my big baseball are going to go to bed now…heh!snorkel!…I hope it is already in my bed because I can’t carry that thing around….sniff!

Yay, my calendar and booties arrived today!
Gulp. Over lock stitch? Yikes! I have a Pfaff 2040 Tiptronic. (I have no idea what that means.). I do have a funny W stitch that might work. Sergers scare me..
11:29 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Love that baseball, Rio!
11:40 pm on August 22nd, 2011
Mom has a Husqvarna 215, which also has a bunch of ziggy zaggy stitches. She’s been looking at the booties I won in the auction, and she thinks maybe she could do some. Maybe.
11:48 pm on August 22nd, 2011
OK, folks. I’m gonna have to call it a night. Dad has to get up early for football practice in the morning, so we’re turning off the computer early — well, for us anyway.
G’night, y’all!
12:05 am on August 23rd, 2011
Well shoot. Jest when I turn up, y’all have gone to bed.
Oh well…guess I’ll just mosey on off to the porch.

Rio: You are a handsome devil indeed. So handsome it’s easy to overlook your beloved baseball toy.
Wolfie: So glad your package wasn’t overtaken by a certain band of goats.
