Signed Copies: To Fetch A Thief (Revised)

From Admin: Thanks for your patience, everybody. Spence has signed 400 books. These can be ordered from the following stores. If you’re in the area, you can just walk in and get one (but maybe reserve ahead because 400 isn’t a whole lot). If you’re not close to any of these stores, you can order a signed copy and they’ll ship.

Murder By The Book – Portland OR – 503 232 9995

High Crimes Mystery Bookshop – Longmont CO – 303 772 9964

Murder By The Book – Denver CO – 303 871 9401

Clues Unlimited – Tucson AZ – 520 326 8533

Brookline Booksmith – Brookline MA – 617 739 6002

Wellesley Booksmith – Wellesley MA – 781 431 1160

Murder By The Book Inc – Houston TX – 713 524 8597

Seattle Mystery Bookshop – Seattle WA – 206 587 5737

Toadstool Bookshop – Peterborough NH – 603  924 3543

Schuler Books And Music – Grand Rapids MI – 616 942 7330 x305

Mysteries To Die For – Thousand Oaks CA – 805 374 0084

If you want a personalized copy (give us a clue about what you’d like written: for example – “loved the frying pan story”) then call one of the two following stores, order a copy and tell them what you want written. Spence will do it when he visits those stores, and they’ll happily ship the book to you. Also, if you want a paw print stamp, this is the way to go. The 400 signed copies do not have the paw print stamp. This method will also work if those other stores above are sold out. The two stores (both great):

POISONED PEN (Saturday Oct. 2, 2 PM)

4014 North Goldwater Blvd.

Phoenix, AZ  85251

(480) 947-2974

MURDER BY THE BOOK (Sunday, Oct. 3, 2 PM)

2342 Bissonet

Houston, TX  77005

(713) 524-8597

Re comment from Gus and BooBear: All copies signed live can have the paw print if desired.

Spence will be at BarkWorld Expo at Atlantic Station in Atlanta this Saturday at 4:15 PM. The subject: dogerati.

Dawson – your frying pan story could be immortalized in pen in the front of a Chet & Bernie book! Hmmm. Perhaps it is immortalized already on the internet.

Has anyone else noticed that Chet and Bernie rhymes with Bert and Ernie? Or are we not supposed to go there?

Chet (or Admin), SQ will be signing books at the stores he visits, correct? So since Mom will be going to Murder by the Book in Houston to see him, she should be able to get a personalized autograph (and picture with SQ) then. So she shouldn't tie up one of the 400 presigned books. Are we correct in our assumptions? Only thing is our copy won't have Chet's pawprint!

Staff had to drive in for a conference with her nephrologist today. She gets poked tomorrow and then she will probably be off line until the end of her First Ever North Dakota TOGA (Treadle On Gathering and Academy)where no sheets will be worn.

We picked up the mail this morning on our way out and found two packages, one from Wookie with Mollypop's block in it and one from Sam with the most lovely black velvet. OMG it is luscious to feel. Definitely "Princess" material and it will look lovelier once it is bedazzled with crystals and maybe a few other things.

    And of course Sam's photo.

    Abbie the Kitty,

    Staff here….

I was going to take a nap but now I have taken over the computer to let you know I am ready to sew and finish up the quilt top. Rio I am taking your comments into account and will send you some pictures (and some to Wookie's Mom too) and see if we can make you happy. Wookie and I get final say though.

There is apparently an article in this week's Time magazine which is being featured on the Yahoo web page about the bedbug infestation that is hitting the entire state of Ohio; it seems that Cincinnati has been particularly hard hit. To remedy the situation, who are you going to call — bedbug busters (aka Rio the Evil Pug). Good to know, Commander, your services are still in demand.

Staff — i'll check with my mom to see if she knows what to do with velvet.

  47. Wookie of Chevy Chas
    1:17 pm on August 18th, 2010

Staff — Checked with mom and this is what she said. There is a product called fraycheck, which is a liquid that you can apply to the edges to keep them from fraying further. After that, what you should do is iron it nap side down into a terry cloth towel. Hope that is helpful; not a clue what it means. Wookie

    Great Wookie!

I was having lots of fun reading blogs by people who love to sew clothing using vintage patterns. But I will get back to work now.

They also said to steam, not iron the velvet.

Oh, and I do own fraycheck from when I was a knitter.

  49. Barb & Maggie

Stover, With all the Shakespeare talk the last 2 days, that brings to mind a question. What do you think of the theory that he didn't write all the works for which he is given credit? Evidently he would have to have an impossibly large vocabulary to have written everything.

    Hey y'all!

Mom (a.k.a. Kelly) said to tell you she sent $10 — she hopes that was enough.

Also, Mom got her copy of Behind the Curtain at the library today, so as soon as she finishes the book she's reading, she's all set to delve into that. Her goal is to get through all the Echo Falls books before the Decatur Book Festival — yippee! The only problem is that I'm not sure she's taking me. I get the impression that I'll be stuck here with Dad. Absolutely not fair!

P.S. While I am thrilled to know where the autographed books will be showing up, I'll also be thrilled when we return to Astrid's case. Maybe tomorrow?

  52. Kirby T. Penworthy
    1:52 pm on August 18th, 2010

Staff: Mom owns a tredle sewing machine. She bought it at an auction when she was in high school and refinished it as a 4-H project. Most of her high school sewing projects were sewn on it. Since then it has moved with Mom and Dad wherever the Army sent them. The belt has gotten old and cracked through the years, so Mom's not sure it would work anymore. Do they still sell tredle belt replacements?

  53. Wookie of Chevy Chas
    1:54 pm on August 18th, 2010

Sorry – Mom uses those terms interchangeably depending upon the fabric (rayon v. silk, v cotton) But nap down really keeps the pile up! What ever any of this means – she just dictates and I'm typing. Wookie

Sorry I'm so late getting in here.

My elegant fabric is velveteen. Wookie's Mom suggested it because she knows how princessy I am. All of the proper suggestions to handle it are listed above.

Mollypop might not be heard from tonight. She and her Mom were on their way to the Buffalo Harbor for sailboat racing when her gum infection got intolerable. She's had this infection for 2 weeks when impressions for her final tooth (on the magical tooth screw) weren't done correctly. Molly is very busy comforting her Mom who is on antibiotics now, plus some painkillers and red wine thrown in for good measure.

Barb&Maggie: I don't agree with scholars who claim that Shakespeare did not write the works of Shakespeare. He was recognized in his own time as a playwright. Eighteen of his plays were published in his lifetime. He was called "honey-tongued" by a contemporary. His players, the Chamberlains Men, became members of King James' household (in other words, they became royal players entertaining king and company) in 1603, and were then called the King's Men. As for his vocabulary and ability with language…he was a genius. If anyone thinks that his accomplishment would be impossible, I'd bring up VanGogh who I would also call a genius. He painted 871 paintings in his lifetime, 463 of them were done in the last thirty months of his life. (And that doesn't include watercolors and drawings.)

Sorry, didn't mean to lecture but those scholars and their debates irritate me.

Last puppy gone. Very good home, he has an uncle there already. But sad.

    Barb & MagPie,

About Shakespeare writing the plays. YSAS had an encounter this last weekend with a person in the Shakespeare-Oxford Society. (they think the Earl of Oxford wrote everything). He was at a Shakespeare and Youth Conference and was a part of a panel discussion. During the question section a woman stood up and asked YSAS if he thought the Earl wrote the plays? Then went on to say she was a 3rd generation of this Society and yadda, yadda, yadda. . . Wouldn't let anyone else talk. So YSAS says, "Does it make any difference who wrote the words? The plays exist and are some of the greatest literature about the human condition."

That shut her up and others got to talk.

Gawd! We had no idea this would be so upseting. We just thought it would create some "food for thought" and a little debate amongst friends. We didn't write the theory, just read it recently! Never even worried about it before. We are going to watch Psych and chill.

Barb is going to go watch tv and I am going to curl up in the corner, with my tail between my legs, having just been verbally whipped for my ill thought out comments. Sorry Will, sorry Rio, sorry Clarkson. Shakespeare rules!

I am going to go ahead and mail Staff the $10 tomorrow because I don't think it is fair that some of us have already sent her money and some of us haven't yet. If Staff feels that she has received too much from us, she can donate it to the charity of her choice. This is the only idea I can come up with.

I can't send her tomato seeds from NM because the tomato plants here all have a virus and have gone to Rainbow Bridge.

WOW!! I am looking forward to seeing it when Staff has time to post a photo here! The quilt is going to be one-of-a-kind. We have some big talent here. This isn't what we want to do with the quilt, but I bet it could win a few prizes.

Librarian here: I asked Fatty Kitty to go and get the skinny from Shakespeare about whether he wrote all those plays or not. He looked at me with that "You humans are so pathetic" look and intoned,

"Some things are not meant to be known."

Huh. I bet a dog would do it.
