A few questions have arisen about Chet and Bernie short stories. Four are available for download at all the usual places – Amazon, iTunes, B&N, etc.: A Cat Was Involved, The Iggy Chronicles, Tail of Vengeance, Santa 365. Two – Upper Story and The Iggy Papers – were part of preorder promotions for Heart of Barkness and Of Mutts and Men, and are not otherwise available at this time. Hope this clears things up, or at least doesn’t muddy them further.

Thinking along HRH B’s line, I am wondering if the shorts might one day be packaged as a paperback edition. I would definitely be first in line to buy it!

Hope Rio, Friend and Mother are keeping safe.

    Good day to all!

Good morning! I like the idea of a combo of the short stories!

Hobbit! We thought of you and your rescue cats and kittens when we saw this!

Just saw the news about Rio and Friend. That is very scary and glad to hear that they are safe. We got hit by a derecho on the East Coast at the end of June in 2012, and it knocked out power in the DC area for nearly a week. We would up (with Wookie and my dad) checking into a hotel near the Baltimore Airport, which among other things kept up cool and safe (the temperature was above 100 degrees for a number of days after it hit).

Report! We can report that Friend was able to get gas and a few groceries today. The store was out of everything that didnt have to be cooked! Wheeze! Friend bought charcoal and starter fluid so she can grill some hot dogs for Rio and Mother. The power company doesn’t know when power will be restored. Yeep!

Heat! We can report their Rio’s wee fan gave up the ghost last night. Bah! We can report that Friend was able to get two little fans today so they can keep coolish. Gasp! She didn’t think there would be any left in the store so it was a relief to find them.

Boo Bear: it is always interesting as to how some mama cats are so good at mothering and some aren’t. I remember one foster who was very huge and uncomfortable but she only had 3 kittens instead of the 6 I was thinking she would have. She would nurse her kittens briefly and then leave and get on top of the bed. Another foster in the same room had 3 kittens also and I had to carry food to her as she would never leave her kittens except to go to the bathroom. That foster ended up taking care of the other 3 kittens who migrated over to her bedding. The latest foster litter of 6 are now 4 as two have died and the mama is very loving but not producing a lot of milk. The kittens are a week old today and have barely reached the weights of a newborn so we think the litter was born prematurely.

I am glad Rio and family are ok. Grilled food is quite tasty and Friend seems to be a talented cook. How is the TP situation?
It is always scary to have trees by your house when there is a big storm. At least it fell into the street. I’ve never had a generator as I felt I wouldn’t know how to hook it up properly and use it. I do keep extra water on hand and have an emergency kit and a crank radio. The longest I’ve been without electricity was three days but since living in the city, I’ve had only two power outages–one due to an earthquake and one to a blown transformer and power was restored in under an hour. The COVID crisis also has been prepared to shelter in place. Take care everyone!

Hobbit: I’m on kitten duty. The two wee ones are happy, healthy and will grow into their Prime. My favorite time with them is nap time. My least favorite time with them is eating time. I’m a huge disappointment to them in that regard. I’ve borrowed Luna’s flip chart to show them that boys and girls are different. So far, we are trying to master the art of stifling laughter. That Luna…what a sense of humor.

The Outlaws (me included) were begat by Annabelle a week after Luna begat Belle Starr. After a few days, Luna made her way into Annabelle’s Outlaw pen and transported 4 of our litter back to her pen with Belle Starr to be raised as her own. Annabelle didn’t ask questions, nor did Luna ask for permission. Annabelle is a good mother, but wanted to be on the trail. Ultimately, Luna raised all of us with her firm but loving paw, and Annabelle taught us how to be lead dogs.

Wyatt: I have been reading one of those Chicken Soup books about 101 cat stories. There were a couple of chapters about crossing the Rainbow Bridge. It was very comforting. There were a couple of stories where the loved one who had past had sent a message from the other side. I remember one of them was when their old black kitty died and the owner was so bereft and said “No more cats. Well, only if it is pure white with one blue eye and one green eye.” The next week she drove to visit a relative and it started to rain. Looking out onto the deck was a soaked little white kitten with one blue eye and one green eye. The owner was sure her black kitty arranged it. The kitty ended up being named Destiny.

A gloomy day with rain in the forecast which means I don’t want to be productive. I decide to read in my favorite reading nook featuring my recliner. What do I find? Mr. Big! Sometimes it is not worth moving a 23lb cat so I turned to go read on the couch. Chessie has claimed it and is stretched out napping. I may have to be productive after all. Darn!

Hobbit: When I hear stories like that, I think about how Blou sent Jay Tyb after Blou crossed the Bridge. We have our way on This Side of the Bridge to take care of youse on That Side of the Bridge.

More to Hobbit: Our Lady finds herself sitting on the armrest is the couch. Or she stands. She seems to stand a lot on the living room. Heh.

At least he matches this chair better and stays on the pad so I can whisk it off and have a fur-free chair. Once my cat tower is repaired, I hope at least Chessie will nap on it and I won’t have to play musical chairs with them.
