SEAK And Ye Shall
“You’re speaking at the SEAK conference in Hyannis, Mass. tomorrow?” Spence says. “Won’t that interfere with tennis?”
“Actually not,” says Admin. “But thanks for your consideration.”
“These are all lawyers and doctors who are interested in writing fiction?”
“Correct.”
“And you’re going to tell them to mind their own knitting?”
“I am not. My topic is how not to get stuck.”
“You’ve got a few tricks in that regard?”
“Not mere tricks. These are scientific methods, developed through my study of quantum physics and – or versus – string theory.”
“Sorry I can’t be there.”
Going to Costco this weekend? Besides Dog On It, Pennie’s pick for August, they will be bringing in the other books in the series, one at a time.
Welcome Cubby & Brinkley.

Good morning, y’all! Some good writers started out as doctors and lawyers. Like one of Mom’s favorites, Tess Gerritsen. But somehow it doesn’t seem fair that they should be so good at so many things! Me? I’m just good at being a dog!
Mom hasn’t turned the computer on for me the last couple of days, so now I have to go back and catch up — be back later!
9:31 am on August 11th, 2012
I think Admin should tell the doctors and lawyers to “mind their own knitting.”
Good morning all.
10:08 am on August 11th, 2012
Good morning all. Another travel day today. I expect Abbie and Alice will be glad to see me. Mr.Staff went off to a bluegrass festival yesterday morning. He says he will be camping in the woods as the overflow lot is full. I will check him carefully for ticks when he gets home.
One last card game of TIC before we part.
10:24 am on August 11th, 2012
Good Morning all! Today I am giving Zoë a break and taking Dan out to lunch. We leave in about an hour.
Hmmm, I remember I was going to comment on something from last night . . . BBL
10:27 am on August 11th, 2012
GOT IT! Congratulations to Sasha. And sorry, Dima, that you got left at home.
10:27 am on August 11th, 2012
Dad took me for a ride yesterday. Now Mom and Dad are getting ready to go to some antique stores and then out for a movie and dinner with my boy and his girlfriend, but they’re not taking me. Since Dad is so nice to me, I guess that makes Mom the mean one!
Back later!

WOW! Excellent site. You plug in your zip code and it gives you the history of Hurricane tracks through your area. (I am such a geek).
Here’s a picture of the tracks through my area. Next I’ll do the site.

See all those lines? I live in the hills. Who’d a thunk it!

Good Morning All!
Haven’t had a cold all winter, so now I get one toward the end of summer!
The Prof, Luna, and BelleStarr are making sure I have enough tissues, and fluids.
Later, we are going to sneak the girls into the Batman movie. Heh!
Rio, sorry about your frozen pizza, and your friend having to work on the weekend. Come to think of it, I have to do some work for the busy place myself…
10:56 am on August 11th, 2012
Kirby, I like to go on rides too. Where did you go?
Maybe your dad will bring back a doggy bag for you today.
11:07 am on August 11th, 2012
Work!….heh!…Someone said “Ta hell with it!” and made bacon and eggs for everyone instead…snort!snort!…Now we are downstairs and she is working on a special project that she is not talking about…grunt!
SEAK!…I would love to be at that talk…heh!…I always get stuck when I post comments. It would be nice to learn how to get out of those kind of messes…chorkel!
11:32 am on August 11th, 2012
Melanie – Great hurricane site. Western New York hasn’t gotten much hurricane activity, but I remember in 2006 trying to run a sailboat race. The counter-clockwise winds pushed all the Lake Erie water down to Detroit and boats got stuck on sandbars.
11:51 am on August 11th, 2012
For those who are interested, this is the link to the conference where Admin is speaking. Sounds very interesting, although getting lawyers and doctors together at the same event can be a bit tricky.

BTW, we actually got our very first watermelon. Right now its only about 6 inches in diameter, and we haven’t a clue as to how much more, if any, it will grow. Our Cherokee Purples are still doing great, but the rest of the tomato crop has been a real bust. We have one plant (can’t remember what it is) that looks incredibly healthy and is growing like gangbusters (about 7 feet tall), but has yet to produce a single tomato. It is ginormous now, but all leaves and vines.

I hope the doctors and lawyers are paying up the yin-yang for this conference.
Wose, Hope you feel better soon. Mom says summer colds are the worst.
We have had moisture from hurricanes around Mexico pass over NM. It doesn’t happen very often…not in my time.
12:06 pm on August 11th, 2012
Melanie: From one weather geek to another…not much (make that no) hurricane activity in these parts (surprise, surprise). However, we do have some high velocity winds from time to time.
Riö: You were right. Bear cleaned out the frig while we were gone. Not a morsel left. So now we are off to buy some essentials to get through the weekend.
Wose: Like Siber says, summer colds are the worst! At least you have the girls around to divert your attention elsewhere. Let us know how you like the movie.
12:06 pm on August 11th, 2012
Lawyers!…I wonder if any fights will break out between the lawyers and the doctors?…snort!…Admin will be right in the middle of it I bet. Or the cause of it…chuffle!
12:10 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio: Bacon and eggs! Yum!
12:25 pm on August 11th, 2012
I wonder if Admin will bring up Winnie the Pooh’s plight as an example on how to get unstuck. Remember he was halfway in and halfway out and somebody used his legs as towel racks?
Or maybe these guys had too much fun with a case of super glue.
There are many, many ways to get stuck. I hope Admin covers them all.
12:37 pm on August 11th, 2012
Wolfie: Have you heard from your mom? Wondering how the Quantum Healing class is going.
Winnie the Pooh has always offered sage advice.
12:41 pm on August 11th, 2012
Here’s a pic of the big dinner party. It was catered by a good local restaurant and was supposed to be gluten free. I can’t blame them since I don’t know where I got gluten from.

12:58 pm on August 11th, 2012
Wolfie: You are in fine form today! Rowdy was not only one of my best friends, but he was my Pooh Bear. He was my dog of very little brain. Bridger always kept an eye on Rowdy. I learned a lot from Rowdy: be where the work is, have a good attitude, and take time for yourself. He was a good boy.

What a pretty table setting, MPM! Mom always does a great table for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Other times, not so much…unless company is here. We like the look of the mismatched chairs.
Boo here…Gus just got back from the vet for a recheck and the vet thought he looked very good. He did not have to have his chest manually drained, although his breathing is somewhat labored. But it looks like the medicine combination he is now on is working. Everybody there was very happy to see him doing so well. We didn’t tell them that the majority of thanks goes to the plunderers and the magic quilts.
Ishmael had to go to the vet too. His news is not so good. He has always been a rather sickly kitty who did not respond well to the different meds the vets put him on. Recently, Mom noticed that his abdomen was swelling and filling with fluid. He has been diagnosed with the dreaded FIP…eventually fatal for cats. It was passed to him from his mother cat and is probably why he was abandoned by her. The vet said that it has now advanced to the “wet” stage (fluid in abdomen) and eventually, fatal. He is such a sweetie and is not in pain so Mom brought him back home. Don’t know how long he has, but he will be loved until then. If he eventually needs help with the crossing, we will face that when it happens. This disease used to be considered very contagious but the thought now is that it is only passed from the mother cat to kittens.
So, all in all, good news and bad news.
1:09 pm on August 11th, 2012
Gus & Boo – Such good news, then sad news.
The chairs are mismatched because the dining room table has 8 chairs and there were 16 guests to be seated.
1:20 pm on August 11th, 2012
Mollys Mom: Such a beautiful setting. Wow! 16 guests. That’s 4 more than we have at our holiday dinners. Here, too, we must resort to the mismatched chair combinations.
Gus, we are happy to hear your good news, but sad for Ismael. His remaining days will happy ones. Of that we are certain.
1:24 pm on August 11th, 2012
BooBear: thanks for the update on Gus. I am truly glad he is doing better. Tenzing has a spot saved for Ishmael under the quilt. I am glad to know your mom is so attentive that she knew to take Ish to the vet.
MPM: The table looks beautiful!
I am off to salt mines. AJ and I have a long day of hammering, drilling and sawing in front of us. Luckily, Tenzing is our foreman. He checks our work from time to time and then takes a nap.
2:13 pm on August 11th, 2012
MPM, always blame someone else for the gluten. It helps. Our chairs are also mismatched. But I don’t see any office or computer chairs there.
Gus, glad you’re feeling better. Ishmael, I’m sorry for your troubles. I am always thankful that I did not pass on what I have to my guys.
Tad tired here. Dan and I went down the east side of the hill and went to a food “shack”. They have the BEST lobster rolls. He had a lobster roll and onion rings and we brought a lobster roll back to Zoë. (She said she wouldn’t let us in if we didn’t.) I had ice cream as the gluten free option. We sat at a picnic table with shade over us and listened to Reggae music. We pretended we were in Key West.
Time for a nap!
2:44 pm on August 11th, 2012
Mollypop’s Mom: What a beautiful…and long…table. I wouldn’t want to wash the dishes and crystal but it must have been fun.
Glad to hear about Gus. Hope Ishmael stays pain-free.
Melanie: You’ve made me hungry for lobster.
Welcome back Masquers.
2:46 pm on August 11th, 2012
Wolfie: You’re making me laugh.
3:57 pm on August 11th, 2012
Thanks, B. A fun time was had by all at Lake Wenatchee where we stayed 3 days with friends and at Chelan where we rented a cabin on the lake.
Returned home to tall tales.
4:07 pm on August 11th, 2012
Masquers and Bear, please ask Nana to check her email. I am hard at work on the Chesapeake right now.
4:11 pm on August 11th, 2012
Melanie: Sounds like you and Dan had a very nice time, but you are making me tired (and hungry) just talking about it! As for the lobster…the Royals will be envious.
4:12 pm on August 11th, 2012
Hi, Kat! Will do.
4:25 pm on August 11th, 2012
We are so happy to hear about Gus. And we will say prayers for Ish the List and Found Kitten. May he follow in Gus’s footsteps and outwit the v e t for many years to come.
Mama and Dad spent the day at a wholesale gem show. They came home lugging bags of stones and beads and sparkly stuff that makes them ooo and ahhhh. We have no idea what they are so excited about – there was not even one teeny, tiny little bone or biscuit in that whole bag. So who cares?! But now they are both all excited to have new things to work with. Like they didn’t have nearly enough beads and stuff before. So, back to supervising from under the work table. Corgis have SUCH a hard life. sigh.
4:27 pm on August 11th, 2012
BSD-thanks for being concerned about our lobster envy, but we all go to the beach next month and lobsters up there are now selling for as little as $2.99 a pound. Dad says he plans to bring really loose clothes.
4:30 pm on August 11th, 2012
I do not feel sorry for The Royals. They go to the coast for their vacation and have lobster 3 times a day!
Lawyers and Doctors . . . shiver.
So Golinka, who’s the Pack Rat?
4:31 pm on August 11th, 2012
HA! Told you so! And they never bring back lobster for us up here on the hill!
4:37 pm on August 11th, 2012
My all time favorite…Steak and Lobster Dinner.
4:45 pm on August 11th, 2012
Kat! That is kool! You are a lucky dog.
4:51 pm on August 11th, 2012
Lobster!…I don’t think I’ve ever had lobster…sniff!…Does tuna out of a can count? Thats what she used to make tuna salad sandwiches for lunch today…wheeze!
Downstairs!…We had to come downstairs because it is too hot upstairs. They rearranged furniture and her mother is happier now that her chair is closer to the TV…sniff!
4:54 pm on August 11th, 2012
Stash!…Oh and we found Beau’s stash of bones hidden behind a chair that they moved….heh!…Boy was he surprised. He scrambled around trying to gather them together again but I was too quick for him…chorkel!…Now they are Mine! All Mine!
4:59 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio: #1 son brought back a salmon filet for our din din. A feast for all! (tuna does count…sorta of)
5:00 pm on August 11th, 2012
Poor Beau…foiled again.

ANNOUNCEMENT!!….The Rockies are Losing…grunt!
5:29 pm on August 11th, 2012
Tuna is NOTHING like lobster.
5:29 pm on August 11th, 2012
Melanie: Gotta love the Irish!
5:31 pm on August 11th, 2012
Our friend Kat sailing on Chesapeake
5:39 pm on August 11th, 2012
B: As a connnoisseur kat I quite agree. Even albacore tuna fails to compare to the exquisite taste of lobster.
5:48 pm on August 11th, 2012
Kat!…Is a world traveler…sniff!…If she ever grows into herself she is going to be HUGE!…snort!
Albacore!…Thats the kind of tuna we had at lunch. Colorado lobster…heh!heh!
5:55 pm on August 11th, 2012
Kat! That’s a great picture of you.
I love lobster, but to me, there is nothing like the Blue Crab!
6:00 pm on August 11th, 2012
I like crab also but it’s more difficult to eat than lobster.
6:15 pm on August 11th, 2012
Seafood!…We here do not get much fresh seafood…sniff!…Her mother gets frustrated because she doesn’t know how to cook fish and she won’t let my friend cook any either…grunt!…Its a wonder someone hasn’t been seriously hurt in that kitchen upstairs…heh!heh!
6:17 pm on August 11th, 2012
Language!…I had to cover Beau’s ears earlier because the project my friend is working on is giving her fits…snort!…She says she will never get it done in time for a charity auction…grunt!…I say don’t worry about it. Do it in the time it takes and then put it up for the Snowhook auction instead…chuffle!
6:21 pm on August 11th, 2012
Colorado lobster…heh, heh.
6:27 pm on August 11th, 2012
Hmmm, I also thought that these were Colorado Lobsters.
6:29 pm on August 11th, 2012
Ugh! Melanie….Yuck!
6:30 pm on August 11th, 2012
Melanie: Scary!
6:34 pm on August 11th, 2012
Gah!…I live in Colorado and I’ve never seen that before…snort!…Nonetheless eat it…gah!
6:38 pm on August 11th, 2012
BooBear, I am so happy to hear that Gus is doing well. Sad to hear about Ish. I know that his days will be filled with love.
MPM, that is a very lovely table!
Kat, you are growing up to be such a lovely girl. Looks like you are having a great time on the boat!
The Prof, the girls and I loved “The Dark Knight Rises.” I loved this trilogy, and I’m sorry to see it end, although the end of the film has some surprises, and leaves and opening for Christopher Nolan to come back if he wants to. A lot of political undertones in the film.
After the film, we were off to Legal Seafood, where we all chowder down on grilled rainbow trout and grilled shrimp. Yum-my!
Ugh! One of the trailers we saw was for the “Jack Reacher” film. Tom Cruise….Puh-leeeze!
6:40 pm on August 11th, 2012
Oh, yuck, Melanie!
6:41 pm on August 11th, 2012
Wose: Seafood seems to be the order of the day!
6:45 pm on August 11th, 2012
Dark Shadows will be release on DVD on October 2nd. Does anyone care?
6:50 pm on August 11th, 2012
That sailing video really cracked me up! I couldn’t tell what was going on until I saw the line and thought that looked like a start not a finish. Our races are with boats 40 feet long or more. We have many different sizes of boats, about 90 in total, and they race in different fleets with starts 5 minutes apart. I have never seen such precision at the start with them all on the starboard tack (if anyone cares).
6:50 pm on August 11th, 2012
RIVER BEAR FRANKLIN!!! You are in BIG trouble! I don’t know where you’ve blurred to, but opening the latch on my door and then BREAKING into your MOTHER’S treats is NOT ALLOWED! Just wait until I catch up to you!
6:55 pm on August 11th, 2012
Franklin!…Run like the wind!…snort!…Take the box of treats with you!….woooooooo!
6:55 pm on August 11th, 2012
MollysMom!…I care…cough!burp!
6:58 pm on August 11th, 2012
Maskers!…please…sniff!…Save room on this blog for posts that matter..grunt!
7:05 pm on August 11th, 2012
Riö: Sniff.
7:07 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio, really, only Molly’s Mom cares if the boats are on starboard tack.
7:07 pm on August 11th, 2012
Franklin, Quick hide!
7:09 pm on August 11th, 2012
I don’t want to seem cold and uncaring – we just don’t know what Molly’s Mom is even talking about when she talks about sailing.
7:25 pm on August 11th, 2012
Sammie!…Maybe that means the boats are tied up at the harbor….sniff!
7:43 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio, tied up in the marina means drinking time!
7:47 pm on August 11th, 2012
Boats!…My friend says she loves the idea of having a boat and taking it out on a “lake” somewhere…heh!…But in her pug-heart she knows she would get sea-sick just wobbling around on a body of water no matter how big or small it is…chorkel!…She does do really well in those paddle boat things though. Her and a friend paddle-boated across Grand Lake one time….snort!…The sail boats almost got them so that was the last time she paddle-boated across any lake…heh!heh!
7:49 pm on August 11th, 2012
Sammie!….Do you think Drinking-Time and Starboard Tack is the same thing?….wooooo!…If so, we have cracked a big puzzle in the ole sail-boat lingo mystery…heh!heh!
8:01 pm on August 11th, 2012
I’m getting time served for good behavior. AJ and I are going to town for more supplies and then it is back to my indentured servitude.
Rio: AJ and I could talk you on a river trip. We were both professional guides. Me and a lake or the ocean is a different story—nothing doing.
Two years ago, they served alaskan crab at the Finishers Banquet in Nome. Yum!
8:05 pm on August 11th, 2012
River!…Now yer talking!…heh!…River Rafting is something we all would be up for….WOOOOOOOOO!…As long as we don’t Shoot and Killer Rapids in the flood season…chorkel!
8:07 pm on August 11th, 2012
Giant!…Professional Guides!..heh!…That would be very reassuring indeed on a River-Rafting trip, especially in the wilds of Alaska…snorkel!
8:09 pm on August 11th, 2012
Salmon!…Do salmon jump in the raft as we go down the river in Alaska???…snort!…Uh oh, now I am imagining Bears. Big Bears…wheeze!
8:12 pm on August 11th, 2012
Quick hello from us. We were busy all day, loading up stuff that we don’t need. Our last chickens are leaving tomorrow morning. Sob. Chicken lady Barb is sad about that.
Today some friends came to pick up the lawn mower. Barb had just finished mowing for the last time and when she went to show them how to operate the tractor, it broke! They said not to worry about it, but Barb said they did not purchase a broken mower, so she is getting the belt fixed. How embarrassing!
Then the post office processed her change of address form early, even tho she had 8/25 as the date. Now no mail. Moving sucks!
One day closer to the new chapter! Later.
8:14 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio: AJ asked me to help guide a river trip for him next week for his work. The only other river I’ve rowed in Alaska had a lot of rapids so I did not see any fish.
8:24 pm on August 11th, 2012
Barb – just keep repeating “it WILL get better”
Rio – you may not get lobster, but you can have all the Rocky Mountain Oysters you can handle.
Melanie – what makes you think that Mama couldn’t repress her inner ferret?
MPM- Gilly SAT on a tack once, but we don’t remember if it was port or starboard.
8:27 pm on August 11th, 2012
Barb: You’re almost there!
8:34 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio – Sailboats cannot sail directly into the wind. They have to be on a 45 degree angle so if the wind is coming from the right side, the boat is on a starboard tack. If the wind is coming from the left side, the boat is on a port tack. Starboard tack has the right-of-way.
Then when at dock, the sails are down and it’s drinking time.
8:34 pm on August 11th, 2012
T&G, ummmm . . right.
Barb and MagPie, at least you know you’ll be getting your mail when you move!
Franklin is back. . Patsy isn’t talking to him. She’s looking at me saying you BEST have some more gluten free treats for me when we get upstairs.
Hmmm, maybe some cheese squares?
Bella, Put me down for the river trip!
BIG storm for the last 45 minutes. Now calming down and Patsy and I are off to bed.
TTFN
8:36 pm on August 11th, 2012
Chapter!…And verse! Barb you are very close to being able to unpack all that crap you are moving to the new place…heh!heh!,,,Moving sucks!
8:39 pm on August 11th, 2012
Barb, what does Peaches think about some of the other chickens moving out?
8:40 pm on August 11th, 2012
MollysMom!…I didn’t think sailboats could sail into the wind at any angle…grunt!…I always thought they sailed with the wind…snorkel!…Course then I always wondered how anyone got back from a sailboat trip unless they were lucky enough that the wind direction had changed…sniff!
8:42 pm on August 11th, 2012
Sammie!…Peaches is a chicken…duh!
8:43 pm on August 11th, 2012
Impressed!…I am so very impressed that Rebecca is a professional river rafting guide…heh!heh!…Now I can truthfully say I know one…chorkel!…How awesome is that!?
8:57 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio, suppose you are a chicken, sitting happily in your coop, and you friends start disappearing, a few at a time. Wouldn’t you wonder?
9:01 pm on August 11th, 2012
Guess what just showed up in the mail? The Market Square Dog book Mom bought at the auction forever ago. Staff, we couldn’t tell what was the original date mailed and hope that you didn’t go out and buy another book to send. It has the correct address on it and a return address in North Dakota. Wow! If this is the original book you mailed forever ago, we have to wonder where it has been and if has been visiting all 50 states before ending up in Texas!!
9:07 pm on August 11th, 2012
Maggie: Will Barb still be the Chickenlady when she moves?
Stupid Post Office. It figures they would mess up the dates.
SnowBella: River rafting is not for me…but the salmon jumping in the boat…a very nice picture.
Which reminds me…there is a salmon filet calling my name.
Talk to youse tomorrow – Bear
9:16 pm on August 11th, 2012
Rio: I haven’t guided professionally for some years, but I like the idea of impressing the evilest of pugs.
9:50 pm on August 11th, 2012
Book!..You guys! You have to know the Maruading Goats have been enjoying that book for months and months now…grunt!…Those evil dudes have to go DOWN…snort!…Especially before Spencer mails AFOC to me….heh!..I’m Skipping, I’m Twirling!, I’m Skipping!….woooooo!…I’m a winner!…heh!

Taking us over to the Darkside…then I’m off to watch a Masterpiece Mystery series called Zen.
Good night all.

10:56 pm on August 11th, 2012
Hey everyone. Got back to the farm around 6:30 and after unloading the car and changing the litter (requested loudly) I had to take a nap. Now I am up to catch up on the blog before going to bed.
Melanie that Irish guy at the sailing race was a riot. I wish NBC had such a lovely announcer. Our guys are such boring stick in the muds that I turn off the sound for the most part.
BBL to say goodnight.
10:59 pm on August 11th, 2012
Staff!…I’m happy you arrived safely….snort!..I was thinking about you earlier and wondering where in the world you were on that highway …sniff!…Tell Alice to take a slow boat to China when she gets all demanding…heh!heh!
11:10 pm on August 11th, 2012
Gus and BooBear so happy for Gus and glad you are able to keep Ishy at home. I am sure he is very happy with you and sorry about his illness. Poor baby. Tuck him up in the quilt tonight.
YIPPEE!
Wow, I can’t believe the Market Square Dog book finally showed up. I wondered why it hadn’t at least been returned to me. And if the wrap had been ripped off I knew I still had the address inside the inner wrapping of the book. Sheesh. Those damn goats!
Just so you know that is the original book. I have been looking online for the book but couldn’t find one that I thought was in as good condition and without any of that musty old book smell so I hadn’t done more than look yet.

Rio, believe it or not it is AbbietheKitty who is the loud complaining one. Just ask Awesome Dawson if that isn’t true. I had better go to feed them now. It is getting rather late.
Not to Kat. I think you are going to get as tall as AJ! Those legs just don’t quit. What are they feeding you anyhow?
Night all except Liz. G’day Liz.

Admin, where have you put Spence? Did you have to tie him up in order to make him talk to all those doctors and lawyers? Couldn’t you let him out at least to post on the blog?
Sheesh.
