Scents and Sensibility Update
“Finish the revisions?” Admin says.
“Think so,” says Spence.
“What’s the last sentence?”
“Heh heh.”
“The last sentence is ‘heh heh’?”
“Very much not.”
“What’s that mean?”

Good morning, and HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE! The Big Guy arrives in less than 24 hours. Zeus and Kat plan on waiting up for him. Heh heh! Like that’s gonna’ happen.
8:06 am on December 24th, 2014
Good morning, Howlers and all.
Merry Christmas Eve to all!
We didn’t really think Spence would give us the last line, did we?
8:22 am on December 24th, 2014
Good morning OH and B&M&L and everyone! Merry morn on the morrow! We think Darah has learned from Doc and Franklin. A full sized TN long-tailed black bear will appear at the dining table and a simple “no nose” causes it to disappear! (at least the nose goes under the table)
Have a wonderful (if wet) Wednesday!
P.S. We have forgotton what the sun looks llike, but we can ID fog.
8:25 am on December 24th, 2014
Good Morning O’Howlers & Barb,Magpie,Lucy & Hounds!
Happy, Merry Christmas Eve to Everyone!!
It’s a Wet Wednesday here too.

Santa’s Gatoraide
‘Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the ‘hood,
not a creature was stirring,
it was as quiet as wood.
When all of a sudden
as I was counting some sheep,
the dogs went ballistic
and kept me from sleep.
Now Baxter, now Khan,
I said in a rage,
if you don’t keep it down
you’ll be sent to your cage!
But the barking continued,
then they scratched at the floor,
and I began to wonder
what could make them so sore.
So I gathered my courage,
and spied through the doors,
and you’ll never believe
what gave chase on all fours….
Now Rudolph is one thing,
and I believe in the elves,
but if I hadn’t seen this
I’d not believe it myself.
This creature was livid
and he was sharp with his word.
Speaking fast with an accent,
I’ve no doubt what I heard:
“You beasts! Unhand me,
or you’ll never again see,
not one single Christmas
with bones under the tree!”

Hey! Quick-Draw McPaw beat me to it..that was supposed to be from moi!
9:41 am on December 24th, 2014
BSD AND Masquers, thank you both. We are laughing out tails off. Snort, chuckle, guffaw!
9:56 am on December 24th, 2014
Merry Christmas Eve to all.
BSD and Masquers: Too funny!
10:08 am on December 24th, 2014
Merry Christmas Eve!! Mom still has tons to do including giving that dog a bath! The youngest of the cat population has decided to embrace owning a dog. You should see them nuzzle up to him when Mom brings him back in after a walk. The more senior of us have decided that ignoring him is the best tactic. Either way, there is peace in the household. Staff, Alice will come around.
I hate that Basil and Sage made it so Cubbins had to move, but at least he will have a new home with all the attention.
MPM, we love your new apartment. Mom has often thought that loft living would be so cool. However, they may try to dictate how many of us could move with her.
Howler’s, sometime soon, Mom may be calling your Mom to discuss the electric fence y’all use.
It is a short day at work for Mom today! Yeah!! Weather cooled off (last night in the low 40’s) so it feels like it should for Christmas.
10:13 am on December 24th, 2014
“Heh!” “Heh!”
Good morning all.
10:34 am on December 24th, 2014
Sentence!…Hey! That’s my sentence…snort! heh!heh!…gruffle!
10:35 am on December 24th, 2014
Stover!…What did you think of the quick way they ended Ascension?…sniff!
10:53 am on December 24th, 2014
Good one Masquers and BSD.
Glad Howie is doing well. I have heard that Bassets don’t do well with underground fence, due to their total focus on scent. Have not had any actual experience with it though. Is actual fencing a possibility?
11:09 am on December 24th, 2014
BSD–I loved the poem! How does s/he keep the hat on her/his tiny head?
11:13 am on December 24th, 2014
MPM–I just went back and got a look at your new place–I want! (Do you need a lady’s maid?)
HOH–Please check your email.
Everyone–A Most Happy Christmas Eve and splendid holiday season (mine lasts through January 6). Thank you all for being here–a comfort and a blessing.
11:40 am on December 24th, 2014
I am having a lot of trouble getting into the christmas spirit. THERE IS NO SNOW! This is the view out our front door. My that is a cute van in front of the house.

11:42 am on December 24th, 2014
I bet that cute van belongs to a couple of cats who have staff!
11:57 am on December 24th, 2014
Merry Christmas eve to all! I enjoyed the poem and picture. Thank you. A little of this, and a little of that today.
Wet and dark today. The lower elevations are losing their snow, but we may be able to hang on to ours. Scout is vaguely interested in what is being wrapped for her.
Musing for today… How does an author know that a revision is done?
11:58 am on December 24th, 2014
Rio: I haven’t watched the final of Ascension yet.
12:00 pm on December 24th, 2014
Martha: I’d suggest that it’s either when s/he (the author) thinks the revision is done or, more likely, when the editor says that it is done.
12:10 pm on December 24th, 2014
Heh! Heh!
HOH No Nose! Good Darah!
BearSpiritDog & Masquers: Thanks for the Christmas Eve poem. It gave me a morning laugh!
Staff: That is a nice looking van in front of the house. You did have snow while I was there. And ice.
BooBear: I hope Howie likes his bath. I’m glad the little kitties are snuggling up to him.
A Merry Christmas Eve to all youse!
12:29 pm on December 24th, 2014
Merry Merry Everyberry, Hope your days are more exciting than ours. Niki put up the gate so that we could not share her breakfast. Seriously, how rude is that, and her being a guest and all? We are all staging a sleep-in until our next opportunity to snag a snack. After the v-e-t said that I needed to be on a d-i-e-t, I have had to resort to shoving Belle and Annie out of their bowls. I think they are trying to starve me, and at Christmas too! There had better be something tasty under the, well, we don’t have a tree, but there had better be something tasty with my name on it tomorrow morning.
The two-leggeds are getting ready to go somewhere without us, so we bid you adieu for now.
12:30 pm on December 24th, 2014
Rio: I plan to watch the final episode of Ascension tonight. I’m wondering if, based on your comment, I’m not going to like the ending.
12:41 pm on December 24th, 2014
Rio & B: As you probably know, Ascension was originally Planned for 14 Episodes, an entire season, but apparently the Ratings were Not High enough so it was Cancelled.
We haven’t finished watching either.
Diane: Yes, a Tiny Hat for a Tiny Head, and we should be grateful. Can you imagine a full sized Gator-aid?
BooBear: We are Happy to Hear Howie is fitting in nicely.
LouLou: Wow! Love youse’s New Place…and with your very own window for Perp Patrol…it’s “Flat” out awesome!
12:50 pm on December 24th, 2014
Happy Christmas Eve Everyone!
It is time to start tracking Santa.
BooBear, We are very glad Howie and the kats are adapting to each other so well.
Staff, There is no snow at my house either.
12:53 pm on December 24th, 2014
Dawson, the snow and ice must have followed you home. They were telling us we would get a few inches of snow on the 23rd but it went to Barb and our SIL Deb instead. Grump.
Martha, The package of catnip mousies is/was under the tree. THen the demons decided to try to jump on the tree, landed on the tree skirt with claws extended. Boom!
Luckily there are no lights or ornaments except for curling ribbon on the tree. Dad said “What was that loud noise?” I, the Staff, restored the tree. The demons have left it alone since.
Mr.Staff is making Key Lime Pie and doing the dishes. And he brought me some candy. YUM! What a guy!
12:55 pm on December 24th, 2014
Siber-H, Yeah but you do not expect it. Or do you?
12:58 pm on December 24th, 2014
Stover!…The show is very good, I think it could have run a bit longer – maybe another episode to really wrap things up properly…snort!…But over-all it was excellant! So please do watch the ending…heh!
1:02 pm on December 24th, 2014
Siber: Check your SDD when you get a minute ^..^
1:06 pm on December 24th, 2014
Rio: I’ll watch it tonight and let you know.
I love the story about Howie and the kittens.
1:08 pm on December 24th, 2014
Rio: Personally I think Syfy was Expecting Too Much. They apparently wanted Game of Thrones type of following. The show never had a chance.
Good News on another front: BBC America will begin Season 2 of Broadchurch in March.
1:11 pm on December 24th, 2014
Staff, A guy can hope, can’t he? (and complain)
Masquers, SDD has been checked!
1:15 pm on December 24th, 2014
Tupper and Gilly: I’m wondering which ending you liked best: Broadchurch or Gracepoint.
I read somewhere that Gracepoint was two episodes longer than Broadchurch because the producers had to accommodate more time for commercials for U.S. television. Figures….
1:21 pm on December 24th, 2014
Staff, those are cutE houses across the street. We especially like the yellow one in the middle. Old houses often have more charm than new ones. We also have the green grass and no snow, although they are calling for a dusting later today.
Will there possibly be a Season 2 of Gracepoint as well? We have the 2nd disc of Broadchurch with we might watch tomorrow. Christmas afternoon is usually quiet here.
Right now getting ready to head to Kelly’s for a gift exchange, and then on to a big party at a family friend’s house. Huge array of food and drink and more gifts there.
Then tomorrow morning, back to Josh and Jess’s for another gift exchange and to see what Santa brought for the wee ones. Whee!
1:24 pm on December 24th, 2014
Bear: I think that tv producers, just as publishers, have far too much power.
1:30 pm on December 24th, 2014
Barb: FOX cancelled Gracepoint after one season. I’ve read that another channel may take it on for another season but nothing has been finalized.
1:43 pm on December 24th, 2014
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: According to IMDb, Gracepoint has been Cancelled by the Fox.
B: I think you are Right.
1:44 pm on December 24th, 2014
Oops…Forgot to Refresh.
2:12 pm on December 24th, 2014
Barb, Of course you like the yellow one. It is a teardown replacement. Much larger than anything else on the block. But they did a good job of matching the rest of the block. It was put up in 2010 if I remember right. The one that was torn down was a little barn shaped house that was much smaller than it looked and it turned over every 3-4 years until this one was built.
If you want to look it up on Zillow it is 4424 Abbott Ave.So. Minneapolis 55410
2:41 pm on December 24th, 2014
Greetings all. Sorry to be so late in saying Happy Christmas Eve.
BSD – funny poem.
Bee – we actually thought the British version was better. We don’t see how there can be a second season – the show is not really about the murder, but what it does to the community. We won’t say too much since Barb is still watching it.
2:45 pm on December 24th, 2014
Tupper and Gilly: (Barb–don’t read this) I liked the American version best because it was open-ended and the revenge (for the wife) was “sweeter.”
3:05 pm on December 24th, 2014
Staff, it is very good catnip. Thank you for the story.
The packages are wrapped. I just finished watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I made split pea soup for tomorrow’s dinner. Soon Zoe will pick me up. We will meet all the kids at church, and then I will stay the night at Zoe’s. What I really want right now is a short nap!
Have a wonderful Christmas Eve night, everyone!
3:07 pm on December 24th, 2014
Staff, They did a great job of matching the neighborhood. Yes, the house is bigger, but from the picture I would not have guessed that it was not original.
Off for the festivities. Happy Christmas Eve to all of you. May check back later, depending on the hour and the degree of sobriety. I am not driving, so therefore, I am planning to have a glass of wine or maybe more!
3:37 pm on December 24th, 2014
The menu here is grilled cheese with proshutto(sp?) ham and tomato basil soup. After the last couple of weeks, mama considered using a different kind of “Basil” in the soup.
3:44 pm on December 24th, 2014
OK, since not too many folks are about, we will tell y’all how mom has vented at us 🙁 The DDD incited the s son (his middle monster). Mom said ok, but no special treatment…WELL,
1) S I L is in the hops. with a bacterial infection after surgery and A son won’t leave him.
2) Mom still has cough so shouldn’t visit someone else with an impared immune system.
3) S son is coming to Christmas WITH, Spongetta and a kid (33 with a head injury) so lifr here is “same old, same old).
Haven’t cleaned in a week so now we must help mom harvest hair and dust. Don’t know why she won’t let us help wrap! The boarder in the basement is getting a garbage bag full of snacks. Mom hopes it will keep him out of the kitchen at night and he will have some lelft to go on the road with the new job. (We’re talking a 30 gallon garbage bag!). No clue what we are getting…no good smells yet.
3:45 pm on December 24th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, you wouldn’t! (AloThough at times Mom thinks you all think like that!)
4:41 pm on December 24th, 2014
Wishing all of my friends here a merry Christmas! Where’d the year go anyway? Probably the same place that all the snow went…it’s practically spring-like here in beautiful and hysterical Erie, PA. Reckon we’re all about as ready for it as we’ll ever be. Wishing all of y’all good Christmas cheer and a tip top 2015.
5:00 pm on December 24th, 2014

Merry Christmas Everyone & don’t forget to look up in the sky tonight:

5:41 pm on December 24th, 2014
Santa!…Fa la la la laaaaaaaaaaaa la la la la la…FA!
5:56 pm on December 24th, 2014
OOO Masquers. I would look up if there was half a chance of seeing anything in this pea soup of a sky. I am tired of clouds! Grump.
And you can’t tell me it is christmas. THERE IS NO SNOW! That is just wrong!
6:11 pm on December 24th, 2014
I’m glad I am not the only complaining about no snow.
6:13 pm on December 24th, 2014
Snow!…Getting snow in the mountains is good enough for me…snort!…No Snow is nice. I like seeing brown grass when I poop…chuffle!
6:13 pm on December 24th, 2014
Strong winds are supposed to start in 2 hours. Gusts up to 70 mph. Buddy and Leno, will this be missing you?
6:32 pm on December 24th, 2014
I’ve heard we’re meant to get strong winds, so…I’m thinking maybe it won’t miss us. I do hope the winds aren’t as bad as that though, having ham radio antennas waving up there makes me a little nervous. Knock on wood, they’ve managed to stay up so far. But really, it isn’t supposed to be near 60 degrees this time of year, it just isn’t.
6:32 pm on December 24th, 2014
Wind!…We had that horrible wind yesterday….wheeze!…Are you telling me it is already in New York?….zow!
6:50 pm on December 24th, 2014
Santa Claus is coming to town! He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. So be good for goodness sake!
6:50 pm on December 24th, 2014
HOH: Don’t know how you do it with all the mismatched people and pets. The 30-gallon bag of snacks is a dream come true! Photo please.
I have a malfunctioning carbon monoxide sensor outside on the deck. I think it needs a new battery but I can’t figure out how to change it. So it beeps every once in a while. The downstairs one did this a while back and I ended up putting it in the garbage bin for pickup. Garbage pickup is next Monday so I and the neighbors will just have to get used to the occasional beep.
6:54 pm on December 24th, 2014
So Sadie still can’t jump on my bed at night. Last night the cat was really rubbing it in–walking around the bedspread meowing, stretching and rolling across the bedspread. Sadie was one unhappy pooch. This morning when she came in from outside, she ran directly to the bedroom and with the head of steam she built up she was able to jump on the bed. She stretched horizontally across the bed (by the pillows, of course) and claimed it as her own. The cat didn’t care, she jumped up anyway and gave Sadie a nose bump.
7:10 pm on December 24th, 2014
Hello again–I am sad to report that I have been baking with a dead hand today–cakes that taste fine, but look like volcanoes–with big depressions in the middle (maybe I’m getting too enthusiastic during the “beat together” phase). So I’m out of the kitchen for now.
Kind of surprised that Mr. R. hasn’t put this up:

Can’t show the fun shiitake yet. The boarder in the basement hasnt seen his garbage bag of goodies yet!
8:17 pm on December 24th, 2014
I have Princess Sam here while family has gone away. Sam’s girl had a suitcase of gluten free food that weighed 48 lbs. Not for me – I opted to stay home. I”ve had to say no to a couple of invitations. Now I’m deciding if I trust the Hyatt regency to make me a gluten free seared shrimp and avocado salad for dinner tomorrow.
8:25 pm on December 24th, 2014
Over!….So in the stores Christmas starts showing up in October, but this morning when my friend was at hobby-lobby looking for a last minute item, the clerks were clearing the shelves of all the Christmas decorations and what not….grunt!…So it begins in October and ends on Christmas Eve morning. What the hell?….sniff!
8:27 pm on December 24th, 2014
Relaxing!…Before the big day watching a Christmas Story…chorkel!

Two dogs on my lap.

9:10 pm on December 24th, 2014
Diane, do you ever watch “Good Eats” hosted by Alton Brown? He started his working career as a chemist and then got interested in cooking. On his show he doesn’t just cook but also explains the why behind the cooking. It is great! I told you this because one of his shows changed the way I made cake.
9:26 pm on December 24th, 2014
Tracker!….Santa Tracker – Looks like he is near Africa…grunt!
9:26 pm on December 24th, 2014
Alton!…He changed the way my friend makes a turkey…chuffle!…She thinks he is a culinary-chemist genius…snorkel!
9:27 pm on December 24th, 2014
Africa!….No! Looks like South America actually…heh!heh!
9:32 pm on December 24th, 2014
Well Santa, we are going to bed now. Loulou and Sammie. I have a feeling Santa will bring a screeching blue jay toy.
9:36 pm on December 24th, 2014
Santa is on his way to NM and CO!
9:36 pm on December 24th, 2014
Merry Christmas, Everybody. May all your Christmas dreams come true.
9:36 pm on December 24th, 2014
Santa is bringing all the kitties catnip toys. And some soft balls to play with. We don’t give those kittens plastic balls because they make too much noise with them.
9:42 pm on December 24th, 2014
Mr.Husky, Bluecat and I are triplets! We all posted at the same time!
10:24 pm on December 24th, 2014
Merry Christmas everyone. We got out of the (excuse me for saying it, but) the dog house long enough to wish you all the best.
And to tell you that we have heard through the catnip plant that that stinkin little CubCat is in his glory, loving it up with his new 5 year old boy and the family Dalmatian/pitbull who thinks he is a kat.
Mama is kinda speakin to us again, but we are having to (shudder)to be obsequious and purr a LOT.
What????? The kit got a good home, what’s the problem?
10:28 pm on December 24th, 2014
Santa!…He is avoiding NM and CO for some reason ….gah!

I’m turning in now and sleeping with one eye open.
Night All
11:03 pm on December 24th, 2014
Howlers- that tree is indeed very beautiful.
TC – our Wrotten Kats are jealous. They say those are the best ccatnip mousies in the world.
11:03 pm on December 24th, 2014
TC that is one nice looking box of toys you have there beside the stove. Staff keeps ours in a basket and the 2 demons found it immediately.
11:04 pm on December 24th, 2014
Rio,
It’s not the size of the tree. It’s the taste of the treats under the tree. Heh!
Good night. God bless us everyone.
11:12 pm on December 24th, 2014
G’night, family. Merry Christmas, and dog bless us, every one.
11:18 pm on December 24th, 2014

12:02 am on December 25th, 2014
Goodnight!…God Bless Us One and All,,chuffle!
12:10 am on December 25th, 2014
Good luck you Thieves. If you catch Santa maybe I could hire you for some kit-napping. Let me know how it goes. I have some kits I could do without.
12:19 am on December 25th, 2014
Good night from here in Chevy Chase. May all of your Christmas dreams come true.
12:52 am on December 25th, 2014
Good night, and good Christmas morning, since it is almost midnight. Just got home and feeling not the greatest. I think half the people attending tonight were getting sick or just getting over being sick. Germs everywhere. And we I did take a little Airborn.
Hope Santa is good to you all, or y’all, or all y’all.
12:54 am on December 25th, 2014
That was supposed to say I took some Airborn, not WE took Airborn.
Sweet dreams.
1:24 pm on December 25th, 2014
Merry Christmas to y’all.
