Savannah Book Festival (And More)
Admin is on the phone. “I hear Savannah’s a go-cup town, like New Orleans. I assume you’re taking advantage of that.”
I can hear Spence on the other end. It’s his voice for saying no.
“Well, maybe after your appearance this morning at 9:30, Telfair Square Tent. Are you going to sing Sundays in Savannah? You could pretend it was tomorrow.”
No sound from the other end.
Welcome back-up dude.

Good morning, y’all! Dad has class this morning, then Mom and Dad are going away for a few days, since Dad is starting winter break this afternoon. They’re not going to Savannah, though. They’re going to the beach. Unfortunately, even though they’re not heading south, the weather is! The forecasters are calling for rain tonight and tomorrow. We really need it, but it sure would be nice if it weren’t this weekend!
Hey! Abbie the Kitty is sitting on the stairs!
9:29 am on February 18th, 2012
I wish they were streaming his talk live.
What is a go cup?
9:42 am on February 18th, 2012
Good morning all! Thanks for your support! Zoe was very touched when she read your comments.
“Go Cup” hmmm, since he’s mentioned New Orleans I would think it’s alcohol in a cup that you can take out of the bar or restaurant. Not sure though
10:01 am on February 18th, 2012
It sounds as though Admin has partaken of “go-cup” this morning. Hope the reading is going well.
Good morning all.
10:02 am on February 18th, 2012
Believe Melanie is right about the go cup. Usually alcolol that you can legally take out and drink on the street. Let’s hope Spence has coffee in his, at least till after his talk.
We missed the pranks on the blog last night. At least they didn’t use my avatar again. Bet Nattie was involved!
10:11 am on February 18th, 2012
Staff: “Read” is usually understood in context. For example, you used “already read” (past tense) and “to read” (present tense.)
10:25 am on February 18th, 2012
Bee: But sometimes it’s ambiguous. Such as, “To pass the time, I read a book.” Did you already “red” the book (past tense)? Or are you “reeding” the book (present tense)?
10:47 am on February 18th, 2012
testing
10:48 am on February 18th, 2012
Kirby: To be unambiguous the writer should be explicit. (That’s what I would tell a student.) So I’d suggest the sentence be changed to, “To pass the time I always read a book.” Or, “To pass the time while I waited for the train, I read a book.” I think I would always take your example sentence, “To pass the time, I read a book” to mean past tense. Anyway, it’s the writer’s fault if meaning is ambiguous.

Go-Cup!…HA!…snort!
11:12 am on February 18th, 2012
What a Great idea Rio had last night!!!
Spence should start a Chet checkpoint campaign!!!!
Mom has taken the credit card and checks away from me, but she might let me donate again if it were for Chet.
11:14 am on February 18th, 2012
Quickly posting!!!
Good Morning Everyone!
The wind is HOWLING.
(my tummy is growling)
Will be back in a few.
(Melanie is correct)
Go-Cup is a cup-to-go)
Good luck with the avatar
Royals…our Borzoi friend?

Rio, I clicked on your name, which is now in blue, and the page it went to said that internet explorer cannot display the webpage.
What has the Borzoi done now???

WE’RE BACK!! YIPPEEE!
Now using the (ancient, slower than sleeping sloths) old computer. Now we have our avatars and names. hmmmm
Greetings all. Enjoy this lovely day. Well, its lovely here anyway. After last winter, we are not going to complain about a mild February this year.
And now back to the Mud Room. BB Tonight.
11:35 am on February 18th, 2012
Hello All.
We have always referred to New Orleans “go cups” as “Mobiles”.
A Chet Checkpoint is a good idea.
We would like to see Beau’s new toy. Kat has lots of toys (mostly hand-me-downs) and plays with all of them, but her favorite is still her first little red toy that we picked up on the way home from her N.Y. State shelter.
Mom and Pop are going shopping so we are going to be outdoors…it is a perfectly beautiful day here. Talk to you all later.
11:44 am on February 18th, 2012
Beautiful day for our Walk / Run. The Pack even went swimming. Brr
KirbyT, like your family our day will begin to get cloudy, but we are expecting snow in the afternoon and during the night. Not much though.
Hope they have a great time.
Mudroom Magic!
Maybe I’ll just look at books.
11:45 am on February 18th, 2012
Melanie: I went to your future DIL’s website. Her work is wonderful.
11:57 am on February 18th, 2012
I thought of another interesting and extremely ambiguous English word: Put. We don’t even pronounce past or present tenses differently.
12:10 pm on February 18th, 2012
Siber: I forgot to thank you yesterday for all your help with the checkpoints. You and Rio are a force to be reckoned with. Someone should do a tally of what we have accomplished so far.
Decal/Magnet orders are shipping today. Everyone who has placed their request via Wolfie can expect to receive it early next week. Please remember this is a Special Gift to the Plunderers to thank each and everyone who has contributed so generously to our beloved Snowhook Kennel in support of AJ & Rebecca’s Musher Dream.
If anyone is still unclear about how to do this, please go back to Chet’s February 16 post…Savannah Book Festival…and see Wolfie’s post at 8:15 pm.
12:13 pm on February 18th, 2012
T & G, Glad to see you got your avatar back this morning. Outside now to do some yard cleanup. Barb called it Poop Patrol.
Whatever that is!
12:17 pm on February 18th, 2012
Oh, and forgot to mention…the decals would make great bumper stickers!
12:28 pm on February 18th, 2012
Masquers, Rio and I thank all of you for your overwhelming generosity and hard work. You guys are something else!!
There just isn’t a better group of dogs, kats, and people anywhere else in siberspace.
12:41 pm on February 18th, 2012
Heh! Siberspace! Good one, my friend.
12:56 pm on February 18th, 2012
Yummers! Zoë has just made gluten free monkey bread. NONE OF THE PACK ALLOWED!
Put, Putted Snicker
MagPie, We have poop patrol every morning! Sometimes we think The Pack invites other member of the Nation Within to help contribute.
1:05 pm on February 18th, 2012
But it would be putt and putted.
What is monkey bread?
I’m making granola.
2:03 pm on February 18th, 2012
Bee – first you grind up 10 monkeys……
Tee hee

2:08 pm on February 18th, 2012
HEY! That’s not funny!
2:33 pm on February 18th, 2012
Tupper and Gilly: It is kinda funny. Heh. (Sorry kats.)
3:15 pm on February 18th, 2012
for Bee: it’s good stuff and would even go well with wine of your choice
Monkey Bread
Ingredients:
4 cans refrigerated biscuits
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter (3/4 cup)
1/2 cup white sugar
2 Tablespoons cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins (these are optional, it’s great with or without them)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9-10 inch tube pan.
2. Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a medium sized plastic bag. Cut the biscuits into halves or quarters and place six to eight biscuit pieces in the sugar cinnamon mix. Shake well.
3. Arrange pieces in the bottom of the greased pan. Continue layering until all the biscuit pieces are coated and in the pan. If you are using raisins, place them among the biscuit pieces as you are layering.
4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the brown sugar over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over the layered biscuits.
5. Bake for 35 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Pull apart and enjoy!

Thank you Bluecat. They sound delish!

Mom and Popare back and thank Dog we all were fed (not them though). Here is a fun video of people and animals doing funny things.

4:56 pm on February 18th, 2012
We really have trouble with that space bar on our iPaw. heh heh
6:59 pm on February 18th, 2012
We have to start from scratch. At this point they don’t make gluten free refrigerated biscuits. sigh
Okay, tonight’s supper! Thanks to Barb and MagPie …
I used several recipes. Ended up like this …
Using the rice steamer on porridge setting. Put in the corn meal and added 3 cups of water, chopped sun dried tomatoes and salt and pepper. Closed it up and let it do it’s thing! Came out perfectly.
Spooned it into a glass baking dish and chilled it over night.
Tonight I cut it up into 6 pieces, fried it, turned it over and put on sliced sweet onion, tomato and topped with gorgonzola cheese. Put a top on it and let the cheese melt.
It was wonderful!!
Today was better. Tomorrow should be better. Thanks for all your support.
7:11 pm on February 18th, 2012
Heard a story on The American Life about a couple who had to deal with the husband’s Asperger Syndrome. He wrote notes on how to behave normally so he could remember how to act like other people. It’s called ‘The Journal of Best Practices’ by David Finch.
I’ve ordered it. I’m hoping that maybe I can get some ideas on Dan. I know he doesn’t have Aspergers but he does have problems with social niceties now. Anyone read or red it?
7:14 pm on February 18th, 2012
Saturdays!….Are usually always busy…snort!… But it snowed last night AGAIN! Someone decided she was not going to run errands no matter what. Not even if the streets were melting already…wheeze!….So we had fun!fun!fun!. She played with Beau and me and then she read the Charming Mr. Abrahams newest book to us for a while. So far we love it!…snorkel!…Then some paper came out and glue started flying and this is what she produced…grunt!…She calls it Bunnies In A Meadow….heh!heh!
7:25 pm on February 18th, 2012
Barb & Melanie: What is the name of this recipe? What is the ratio of corn meal to water? Wonder if a crock-pot would work in lieu of a rice steamer…..
7:28 pm on February 18th, 2012
Melanie: I’ve never heard of that book. Your corn bread sounds good.
Rio: Which book by PA?
7:29 pm on February 18th, 2012
Another beautiful quilling that reminds me of Spring! Which is nice since it’s snowing outside.
Masquers: Polenta is the name of the corn meal dish. I used Barb’s and MagPie’s main recipe and then did the other stuff.
The Pack is totally exhausted. They really did run on our walk!
7:30 pm on February 18th, 2012
Wow Rio,
We are impressed. Just in one afternoon? Goodness what a pro you have become. Heh. Easter is just around the Iditarod too.
Alice M. and AbbietheKat are speechless with awe.
(If I read them right)
7:30 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rio: Your friend is just amazing! I love the bunnies!
7:36 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rio: Are you kidding me…your friend whipped up that wonderful creation in a matter of hours? It is like a breath of Spring. I love it!
Melanie: We haven’t read the book, but from the discussion heard on NPR this morning, it sounds like information everyone could benefit from reading.
7:42 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rio, Those are such cute bunnies…bet your friend could create any animal now.
7:43 pm on February 18th, 2012
Melanie, Love what you did with the basic polenta! We will try it. Have some mozzarella in the freezer. How do you think that would work, with maybe a dollop of marinara sauce?
The bunnies are absolutely precious! Love them.
7:52 pm on February 18th, 2012
Your bro, Beau sneaked in a post last night when you and your friend weren’t looking. He was missing a avatar though…maybe you can help him out. What’s this about you refusing to pose in a picture with him? The Anchorage checkpoint was named in your honor so we know you will be on the trail with the rest of us, but poor Beau won’t get to go…is that what you are saying?
7:55 pm on February 18th, 2012
I’m talking to you, Rio.
7:56 pm on February 18th, 2012
We loved the idea of that polenta. Sounds yummy.
Rio, your friend’s bunnies look cute enough to eat. 🙂
We have to go to bed now because Pop has to get up at 1:00 to go to work. We have no idea how those guys do that. When we go to sleep…we stay that way.
Good night, all.
8:09 pm on February 18th, 2012
Bunnies!….Uh Oh!…sniff!…I should have known better than to show the Howlers some Bunnies…wheeze!…My friend did indeed make more than 50% of this today. She had all the top flowers created, but a few of them were ripped apart by a certain Black Pug who shall remain nameless this morning when her back was turned…grunt!….Boy, was someone mad about that…heh!heh!…She had to re-create them and then the rest of it. This does not have as much detail as the Flower Cart does. …snort!… Her mother thinks it is “cute”…heh!heh!
8:13 pm on February 18th, 2012
Bear!…I have my reasons for not wanting to pose with a poser…grunt!…First off, he smells. Second off, he smells and third off, no I do not want him to go on the Iditarod Trail with me….wheeze!…So there!
8:20 pm on February 18th, 2012
Photo!….I have to say that photo of the Bunnies looks like MollysMom took it….grunt!… There is a big shadow on the left side of it giving the impression that part of the project is cut off or not in balance….wheeze!… I swear!
Brandy!….Did we get more warm bodies to donate to Brandy’s Checkpoint?…sneeze!…How many does Stover have right now? Does anyone know?….wuffle!
Chet!…Oh, and I see there is no word on the Chet Checkpoint…snort!…Well, Spencer is in Georgia with his Go-Cup so I really didn’t expect any developments on this yet…heh!
8:20 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rebecca has had emails from five people contributing a total of $112.50 for the checkpoint in memory of Brandy. I’ll wait until Monday to see if anyone else wants to contribute and then I’ll send the check to Snowhook for the balance. Thanks everyone.
8:21 pm on February 18th, 2012
B: Check your SDD.
Rio: The bunny ears are my favorite. I am in awe of your friend’s talent, if not a little jealous.
Mick the puppy, falling asleep on my feet as I type, wants everyone to know that it was his picture posted on Chet’s facebookie the other day. The fame has gone to his head.
SiberH: Lefty thinks that Redbone is making youse guys look bad with his gentlemanly ways. I told him that his gesture did make a certian min-pin swoon to which he responded by trying to eat my glove.
8:34 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rebecca, Redbone does make all of us guys look bad, but I like him anyway. Mom says I am suppose to think of Redbone and Wolfie as my role models on the blog instead of my dear friend, you know who.
8:42 pm on February 18th, 2012
Hey!….snort!….What does that supposed to mean?…grump!
8:55 pm on February 18th, 2012
Toy!….My friend forgot to get a photo of Beau’s beloved toy today…snort!…She says she will try and remember tomorrow…grunt!….This means she will also try and get a photo of me and him together together. Good damned luck with that I say….heh!heh!chorkel!
8:58 pm on February 18th, 2012
Now Siber-H, Riö is an excellent role model
for what NOT to do what-so-ever.Watching Masterpiece Mystery’s Agatha Christie’s Marple: The Body in the Library.
9:18 pm on February 18th, 2012
I’m out of here dudes and dudettes!
TTFN
9:25 pm on February 18th, 2012
Melanie!… Seems to be in a better mood today…snort!….at my expense…grunt!
Damages!….We love this show so much!…sniff!….Finally we have caught up to the part where we started watching way back when and didn’t know what the hell was going on…grunt!….It was such a good show we kept watching anyway….heh!…Now we know, or think we know, what is going on…gruffle!
9:35 pm on February 18th, 2012
We will say good night too.
Going to share a bowl of ice cream and then off to bed. Barb gets the chocolate and I get the vanilla. Yum!
9:58 pm on February 18th, 2012
Hey, y’all! Mom and Dad didn’t get to the beach today after all. 🙁 They hadn’t made reservations yet — didn’t think it would be a problem this time of year. But when they decided to take advantage of an online special, they found out that they couldn’t book it because tonight is full up. Luckily, they had some wiggle room in their plans, so they’re going tomorrow instead. 🙂 Mom kept thinking there was something she was supposed to do today, and then when she read (red) today’s postings she remembered that she was supposed to send a check to Snowhook. Of course the post office is closed now. Maybe I’ll just mosey on over to their website and see if Mom’s credit card will still work, even though she put (putted?) a deposit on that hotel.
Bee: I sent something to your SDD yesterday, but not to Rebecca’s. Is my donation included in your total?
10:00 pm on February 18th, 2012
Magpie: You and Barb have a most excellent idea…ice cream!
We just got a notice from Amazon that Awake was available to watch on Prime for free. At first Nana thought it was going to be a preview, but happily turned out to be the entire 45 min. Pilot and commercial free. The story…a police investigator living 2 in realities…one waking, one a dream (or is it the other way around?) The show premieres on NBCCheck it out…looks promising.
10:10 pm on February 18th, 2012
Bee and Rebecca: Please check your SDDs. (Rebecca, just don’t tell your guys that I emailed you from my own email account!)
10:19 pm on February 18th, 2012
Checkpoint!….I don’t know what is going on but I am hoping all this clandestine backstage stuff is helping to pay for another Checkpoint for Snowhook!…grunt!…That’s what I am all about lately…heh!heh!…Lets get all the Checkpoints covered one way or another!….woooooo!wheeeee!….
Redbone!… Brother Redbone, do you have any rich sisters, brothers or close cousins that you can send this way and have them sponsor a full Checkpoint for their loved one?…wuffle!…That would be amazing if ya did…snorkel!
10:21 pm on February 18th, 2012
KirbyT: Checked and decoded. Mums the word on your own SDD account; if the team finds out you have your own account, I’ll never hear the end of it. Never.
10:23 pm on February 18th, 2012
Kirby T. Thank you! No your amount wasn’t in the total that Rebecca gave me. I hope you have a great time at the beach.
10:24 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rebecca: My lips are sealed! Actually, maybe I’d better go get a drink of water first; then I’ll seal them!
10:29 pm on February 18th, 2012
Bee: Unfortunately, I don’t get to go with Mom and Dad to the beach. I’m going to the kennel place — I heard Mom doing a lot of spelling to Dad, but they forget I know what v*e*t means! Anyway, when Mom and Dad usually go to the beach in January, I stay here and get my annual exam. But they didn’t go this year, so that’s what I’m doing this weekend. The only thing that makes me feel better about that is that my bill will be more than Mom and Dad’s hotel bill! Snicker — as someone around on this blog is wont to say!!!
10:43 pm on February 18th, 2012
Kirby T.–I’m sorry you can’t go. I hope your annual exam goes well. Perhaps they will bring a treat back for you when they return home. Tell them that I think you deserve it!
10:44 pm on February 18th, 2012
Sleep!….Someone here says we all need a good nights sleep…heh!… All that snoring last night kept some of us awake…grunt!sneeze!….So tonight will be different??…heh!…Anyways, we are all going upstairs to our beds, mine being a warm soft bed with all my baseball toys right where I want them and Beau’s being a cold hard bed with that one toy he has fallen madly in love with….gruffle!… Lord help that toy….heh! …Goodnight!
10:49 pm on February 18th, 2012
B: Please check your SDD once more.
KirbyT: Hydration is important for all members of the team.
I wonder how long it will take for Rio to make Beau’s favorite toy his own…
10:56 pm on February 18th, 2012
Maybe the Borzoi could launder some money and send it Snowhook’s way to cover a checkpoint. I’m sure she knows how to do this kind of stuff. Russia would never miss it.
Kirby, Hope your folks have a nice trip to the beach and your stay at the vet goes well.
Night All
11:07 pm on February 18th, 2012
Rebecca: I’ve answered your email. Sounds good.
Night all!
11:28 pm on February 18th, 2012
Eating of gloves is a traditional sign of manliness amongst certain tribes, or so I’ve heard. Anyhoo, Mr. Redbone is the manliest of the manly. *swoon, thunk*
11:38 pm on February 18th, 2012
Macy: I can only imagine that your thunk is the daintiest of thunks. If devouring gloves is a sign of manliness then Pancho and Lefty are in a dead heat for first place.
5:18 pm on February 19th, 2012
Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic however I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest authoring a blog post or vice-versa? My blog covers a lot of the same topics as yours and I feel we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Terrific blog by the way!
