Savannah Book Festival
Spence will be at the Savannah Book Festival – which is supposed to be really special – this weekend. He’ll be speaking at the Telfair Square Tent on Saturday at 9:30, and also visiting Beach High School at 9 on Friday morning.
Welcome 2 new dudes.

Good morning all. Is that Savannah, Ga? Is our guy venturing out of the New England area? Have fun. It’s a beautiful city.
Brandy was up top just now. Still think the Doberman should have won.
Did anyone see the news about all the dolphins beaching themselves on Cape Cod? 177 so far, and most have died. They don’t know why they are doing it, but there are some serious concerns about the health our environment.

Rebecca and AJ: We read your post last night about Younger. Mom and I are both so sad for you. You’re both in our thoughts today as you prepare for this race that Younger would have been so happy to run.
9:02 am on February 16th, 2012
Why is this book festival special I wonder. Have a great time Spence.
Good morning all.
9:43 am on February 16th, 2012
Good Morning All.
Serious stuff first: Well, never mind. Still trying to get my mind and emotions around Younger, AJ, Bella and Snowhook. I’ll think about what I want and need to say.
The other stuff: Very tired after days of going and going. My face isn’t awake, much less my mind. Have you ever had that happen?
After the great day yesterday today is trim the trees, but I’m only holding the ladder. Then a run in to get meds and gas for the Subaru.
This morning? I had emails with pictures! The Royals’ Mum’s two pots. I’m going to work on the pics in a bit. I can’t remember though what else she’s doing to them. I know she was slow baking them in her over last night!
The other emails were from YSAS. What a HOOT! I can put up one picture I’m sure. The young lady with him is Ophelia. Dressed a bit differently! Snicker.

Good morning all-
We were going to bring something up today for the Plunderers to weigh in on, and lo and behold, Barb and Maggie beat me to it. But here goes anyway.
There have been a horrific number of dolphin strandings on Cape Cod this winter. This does happen every winter, but the numbers of dolphins are usually in single digits, whereas this year we are approching 200.
The dolphins appear to be healthy and the ones that have been simply pushed back into deep water after being tagged seem to be moving on with a natural life. The ones that havent’ made it do not show any signs of disease or injury. Their food source is abundant, so they are not chasing prey fish into the shallows and getting hung up, which is what often happens to whales.
Scientists are trying to figure out what is causing this to happen this year.
Ok, here is what we think and we are asking for your opinions:
Cape Wind, the multiple wind powered turbines are in operation this year. These turbines are located offshore in deep water. There are enough of them running this year that they are selling the power to the utility companies, for the first time.
People who live near land based wind turbines have been encountering all kinds of health issues that they claim are related to the low vibrational “thrum” that the turbines put into the air, and into the ground as the blades revolve. People complain of headaches, vertigo and insomnia. Even people who were all for the turbines as a non-polluting power source are now claiming to feel the ill effects.
We all know that sound carries underwater. We all know that dolphins travel using sonar and sound. We are concerened that the thrum of the turbines is a confusing sound to the dolphins, kind of like your GPS telling you to turn left now, even though you are on a bridge, or next to a wall.
This seems like too simplistic an answer to us – it seems that if this is a possible cause, the scientists would be exploring that, and even turning off the turbines for a week or so to see if the dolphins stopped stranding.
But it is kind of strange that the turbines are a new thing this year, and the stranding is a new thing this year.
Anyone have an opinion?
10:46 am on February 16th, 2012
Royals – I’m with you on this one. Those turbines could very well be causing this and who knows what else.
Like Pogo Possum said, “I have met the enemy and he is us.”
10:49 am on February 16th, 2012
T & G, We listened to the news report with a heavy heart. Not once did they mention the turbines. They talked about tides being low, no ice in the bay, global warming, blah blah. We sort of did a big aha when we read your post. We are certain that has a big impact on the dolphins. Don’t they use sonar? Why isn’t someone looking into this possibility? We need to protect these beautiful and intelligent creatures.
BTW, We watched Dolphin Tale and loved the movie. Definitely worth seeing. Winter played herself in the movie.
11:01 am on February 16th, 2012
Wind!… Hasn’t this Cape Wind Farm been a controversial project right from the beginning?…snort!…I don’t know all the details but surely they would have done an environmental impact study before building the turbines, right?….grunt!…Or is that just another government process we cannot trust?…sniff! …To bad someone can’t figure out a way to harness the power of Beau’s wind…heh!…Its mighty strong stuff and it has the power to move people!…cough!choke!
11:13 am on February 16th, 2012
Rio – talk about your environmental impact!
tee hee
Seriously though, as far as the turbines, since it was a whole new science, there was not an awareness of any detrimental side effects. We were all for wind farms as a renewable,non-polluting energy source, and poo pooed the arguments of wealthy home owners on the Cape who decried the turbines for spoiling their view of the water. We never thought about a sub-sonic thrum having a negative effect on people or animals.
Wonder if our favorite author has any opinions on wind turbines on the local environment.
11:24 am on February 16th, 2012
We here in n.w. Illinois live in a sparsely populated and windy area. We have new wind turbines located not far away. We can see 8 off in the distance. They do not have any effect on us or our animals, but there was a lot of controversy about those issues when they started building them 3-4 years ago. They are gi-normous when you are close to them. We like the idea of using them, but are glad we are not living in their shadows.
11:29 am on February 16th, 2012
I remembered seeing this recently…
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120208132711.htm
It’s about sound pollution and some whales. Since dolphins also use sonar they could very well be impacted by sound disruption also.
11:39 am on February 16th, 2012
We have literally hundreds of those giant wind turbines in eastern North Dakota. Now they are talking about putting them up in western North Dakota which will put them in direct line with the Central Migratory corridor for birds. That is a very bad idea.
I wish we could just go to solar instead of turbines. But solar will not put money in the hands of the electric companies and so there is no push for it. We will each have to do it ourselves if we want solar. Solar is the only TRUE non polluting energy source.

Barb&Magpie and Tupper&Gilly:
Thank you for bringing this very important issue to our attention. We agree…the simplest answer is usually the best. There has long been concern over the Navy’s use of underwater sonar and its effect on the Whales. As you said, the dolphins would be effected in the same way.
MollyPop’s Mom: How true, how true… the words of wisdom from one of our all time favorites…Pogo.
Staff: The article was very informative. I do wish some decisions made that affect the environment adversely could be reversed. Pondering whether sonar power in lieu of wind turbines could cause problems for the avian population.
Melanie: We think YSAS and Ophelia make a very good looking couple! I know, I know…it is not meant to be.
Spence & Admin: Have a wonderful time in beautiful Savannah!
Rebecca: Nana was very emotional as she read your post last night. As TYB said yesterday: Your boy will be running in the race to Nome.
Rio: Please check your SDD.
12:07 pm on February 16th, 2012
Congratulations to the Howlers! You are the winners of the Drop Bag Quilt Drawing.
All: Thanks again for your kind words of comfort and for the emails and e-cards you’ve sent.
12:14 pm on February 16th, 2012
Congrats to EP!
12:15 pm on February 16th, 2012
What!?…snort!…I never win AnyThing!…grump!
12:18 pm on February 16th, 2012
Congratulions, OHs!!! That is one beautiful quilt.
Rio: Please check your SDD when able.
12:22 pm on February 16th, 2012
Bear!…I received your “correction” note on the SDD, was there another one I am missing?….grunt!…I could have really used that Quilt on my warm soft bed…sniffle!
12:40 pm on February 16th, 2012
Way to go Howlers!
12:43 pm on February 16th, 2012
Rio! I remember you winning a signed and paw printed copy of one of Spence’s books.
Telfair Square: I wonder if Spence will stay around until Sunday when Stephen King will speak at the Savannah Book Festival.
12:50 pm on February 16th, 2012
Howlers – ve congratulate you. Reluctantly, but Natasha is alvays professional.
12:53 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie, Love the picture! He is one talented guy, and she is a cutie too.
On the dolphin issue, doesn’t it always come down to MONEY? Some peple out there will say “Who cares about a few dead dolphins?” We feel that they are a harbinger of bigger things, like the health of our oceans and our planet, and we need to pay attention and lighten our footsteps before it is too late. Walk softly on this earth, it is the only one we have!
No one seems to be too concerned about the changing climate either. Everyone just says how much they love this mild winter. But we are wondering why the climate is changing so much. Does it all tie together?
1:09 pm on February 16th, 2012
Dawson!….That was so long ago it doesn’t even count anymore….huffle!…Didn’t the Howlers win something else just recently? Or was that Rose I am thinking of?….grunt!
1:12 pm on February 16th, 2012
Clarkson!…I’ve saved that photo of Clarkson in my Clarkson photo gallery….snorkel!…He gets better looking every time I see him…chuffle!
1:15 pm on February 16th, 2012
Rio: True, It was back in the good old days when we had contests instead of random drawings.
Congratulations to the Howlers. (sniff)
1:39 pm on February 16th, 2012
I will have to do some research on this turbine thing. A lot is going to depend on where the working turbines are and where the dolphins are breaching. Cape Cod is a notorious place for beaching of pilot whales, whales and dolphins. But today after this last week? Whew.
Zoë and I caught up with Downton Abbey last night. I was trying to figure out about the Spanish flu. I knew that there were some bodies way up north that had been buried in permafrost and so the virus was still alive. They did some research on that.
Zoe looked up the virus. WOW. What a nasty. At the lowest estimate it took 3% of the world’s population. That’s the LOW estimate.
Turns out the majority of the people that died were young healthy adults. The viral created a “cytokine storm (overreaction of the body’s immune system)” in people’s bodies. For people with immune disorders (taking a bow here) the weaken immune system couldn’t “storm”. But young adults? It just ravaged their bodies.
Here’s the link if you’re interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic
On our home front: Ros was very good about the acupuncture! So was Zoe! snicker
Jesse and I (mostly Jesse) pruned the pecan tree that needed it and another tree that had some kind of overwintering mass cocoon thing that in the spring would have released a horde that would eat the entire play yard growth. That is now gone.
Next are beautiful pot pictures.
1:40 pm on February 16th, 2012
Rio: There was a contest where I won an autographed copy of “To Fetch a Thief” back in December. I never win anything either, so I was very excited.
Melanie: If Bonnie and Clyde is ever re-made, the cast is right in that picture.
1:44 pm on February 16th, 2012
One set of pics is the “Vincent’s Village” based on Starry Night. It is all done with yellow crystals set into the heart of each star.

1:44 pm on February 16th, 2012
1:45 pm on February 16th, 2012
O.Howlers: Congratulations you lucky dogs!
Rio: I think you got Bear’s meaning.
Staff: My apologies to you. I read that wrong. You said Solar not Sonar. What was I thinking? Sonar in ND? Well…the way things are going…..
barb&Magpie: We believe dolphins to be some of the most intelligent species on the planet. All of us would do well to listen to what they are saying.
1:46 pm on February 16th, 2012
The other one is “Life in a Fishbowl”: – there are moonstones set into the curled waves on the top, and aquamarine crystals scattered through the waves.

The pots are now done and sitting on the shelf of “finished and ready to show”. And today I get to start making some new pots – goody goody goody!!!! yippeeee!!!!!
1:48 pm on February 16th, 2012
Okay, time for me to rest. YSAS is finishing up his gig with smash today. Monday he’s coming home (here) with Hamlet. They will be here for 2 nights. They hope to help when Dan comes home. Still not sure when Dan is coming home, but it’s the only time the two could take time to come up.

1:58 pm on February 16th, 2012
Van Gogh’s Starry Night one of our very favorites!
Melanie: Thank you for posting the photos of the Royal Mum’s beautiful work.
We too, caught up on Downton Abbey. It has to be one of the best shows ever aired! Only one more episode…the season finale. sob.
Rose! They do make a perfect Bonnie and Clyde, don’t they! heh.
2:05 pm on February 16th, 2012
Isn’t it Kirby’s Grampa’s Birthday today?
Happy Birthday Grampa!
2:09 pm on February 16th, 2012
OH MY DOG!!!! We can’t believe we won the quilt!!! This is amazing. Rio, Buddy was the first Friend of the Month and won an autograohed copy of TFAT. Normally, none of us at Howling Arabians win anything.
T&g, we heartily agree with you about dolphins and wind turbine sound carrying thru water. We hope we are wrong, because we are so in favor of both wind and solar power to help replace fossil fuels. But we MUST NOT harm dolphins, the greatest and most intelligent friend to humans.
2:15 pm on February 16th, 2012
About the Spanish Flu…Mom’s parents and uncle told her many stories of that influenza epidemic. They told of street corners with coffiins stacked to the 2nd floor windows, and that just about every door in town had a black wreath and black crepe, signifying a death in the household.
2:20 pm on February 16th, 2012
T&G: I’m wondering how much the van Gogh pot would be? Beautiful!
2:22 pm on February 16th, 2012
Congratulations OH!
I’ll have to tell about YSAS about Bonnie and Clyde!
OleyHowlers, where were your Mom’s parents when the flu was going through?
2:26 pm on February 16th, 2012
They were here in Pennsylvania, Melanie.
3:42 pm on February 16th, 2012
Stover!…I bet that Van Gogh pot would sell for a million dollars…snort!
3:49 pm on February 16th, 2012
Congratulations Fellow Sibers! You will love the quilt and wait till you see the quality of it. Mom won’t let go of hers. I’m glad I have no need of a quilt.
Bonnie and Clyde was my first thought also when I saw the photo. They would make a great Bonnnie and Clyde and a movie needs to be made of them that tells the historical truth.
Mom has read a couple of books on the flu of 1918. It probably began in Kansas at a huge Army base rather than Spain…the virus jumped from pigs to humans. It killed more people than WWI.
3:56 pm on February 16th, 2012
Those pots are beautiful!! I’m no expert (far from it) but the Royal’s mum nailed the Van Gogh thing. I’m with Rio on it selling for a million dollars.
4:05 pm on February 16th, 2012
Rio and SH: Than I won’t be able to afford it.
4:09 pm on February 16th, 2012
Someone told mom that her great-grandmother died of the flu when she was 6, but that story sounds a little fishy to me.
Macy wants.
4:10 pm on February 16th, 2012
Oh, and Melanie, what kind of meds is the Subaru on?
4:14 pm on February 16th, 2012
Important SNOWHOOK announcement!!!
The Plunderers have donated a total of $225.00 toward the checkpoint sponsorship in Younger’s honor. We need just $25.00 more to reach our goal of $250.00. If any of you can help out with the last $25, please email Rio.
I know we all feel really bad about losing Younger and Mollypop to bloat. My prayers are that someday this won’t happen to the dogs we love.
Rebecca and AJ, please know that we share your loss with you.
4:17 pm on February 16th, 2012
T&G — you mom’s pots are simply beautiful. The Vincent’s Village does bring to mind the Don McLean song “Starry Starry Night”. Anyone willing to hum along while I sing?
Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer’s day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.
Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they’ll listen now.
Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand.
Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they’ll listen now.
For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.
Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget.
Like the strangers that you’ve met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.
Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they’re not listening still.
Perhaps they never will…

(whispering) I just found out it’s Rose’s Birthday today.
5:36 pm on February 16th, 2012
Does anyone want to help me sponsor a checkpoint for Snowhook? (If we had 20 sponsors it would mean $12.50 each.) Click on my name here and leave a message on my blog if you want to.
5:36 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie, just like Macy, I wondered too what meds the Subaru was on. Tyb has a Subaru so maybe he should know about this.
5:37 pm on February 16th, 2012
Happy birthday Rose!

Happy Birthday, Rose.
Maggie hugs and kisses too!
5:47 pm on February 16th, 2012
Happy Birthday Rose!!
Congratulations Howlers!
Good job Rio!
Wookie – thanks for the words to Starry Night. That song was instrumental (no pun intended) in our first real interest in the Masters. The words of the song were so intriguing, the visuals painted by the phrasing created the desire to see the image, to read more about Van Gogh, to know more about art in general.
Thank you all for your nice words about the pots. It is so wonderful to not be under the influence of the CL, to be home with my clay, being happy. And its very confidence building to hear that people like what they see.
5:49 pm on February 16th, 2012
oh yes…HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSE!
Hope the Prof is taking you out on the town
or a romantic evening at home is good too!
5:59 pm on February 16th, 2012
Nana is sitting here all starry-eyed.
Wishing she could buy the Starry Vase.
Thank you Wookie for the words to the song.
With the rest of you, we are singing right along.

Stover. Not sure where to leave the message on your blog. Can I just do it here; if so, consider it left. Wookie
6:18 pm on February 16th, 2012
Happy Birthday to Rose!!! More Husky Hugs and Kisses coming at you!
T&G, I don’t have adequate words to tell you how inspiring your pots are, and even more so while I sing Don McLean’s beautiful lyrics.

Thanks Wookie. My email is drblstover@gmail.com

6:32 pm on February 16th, 2012
Jeeze Louise! Do you know how difficult it is to bake and decorate a cake when one of the Pack has the same as the Birthday Person????
Finally got it done. Having Franklin blur it over to NY as soon as possible, so that certain member of the Pack will STOP flying by and stealing the pedals!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSE!
(No, for Dog’s … no cut it out, Rose! I’ve told you no a million times all ready! This if for the two legged Rose. Knock it off!)

Eek! We missed the first episode of Survivor, and we can’t find a rerun. We thought it was on Thursdays, as always. And they always used to air the episode again on the weekend. Waaaahh

Supreme Commander Bee – vould be our honor to join vith you to sponson the Snowhook. Ve will be in touch through SDD
7:00 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie: YUM!!!
Tupper&Gilly: Could you tell your mama to check her SDD?
7:00 pm on February 16th, 2012
Okay back to the serious part …
We open our hearts not only to our two legged family and friends, but also to our four legged friends be they Kats, friendly goats or members of the Nation Within. (Barb, I’m counting your chickens in the two legged).
Our hearts grieve.
Our hearts grieve if we have only one companion, or nine or over forty. We KNOW these companions. Each one is different in their personalities. Each one fills a different part of our hearts.
Younger had a special place in the hearts of AJ, Rebecca and the entire Snowhook pack. He will always have a special place.
I believe that our hearts do not have only so much space and each place is allotted. Like a certain wardrobe our hearts are much bigger inside than the outside can show.
7:01 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie: Oh, and Masquers is sorry about the kat escaping.
7:04 pm on February 16th, 2012

MollyPop’s Mom: I hope you are feeling tip-top!
B: Count me in. I’ll send you an e-mail!
Masquers: Special hugs and scritches to you.
Bear: Hugs to you and tummies.
OHs: My birthday turned out to be your lucky day! Hugs back at you.
T&G: Your mom’s pots are just so beautiful!
Wookie: Thanks for the lyrics to “Vincent”
SiberH: I don’t mind being covered in husky hair at all!
(whispering) Am I really your girl??
Hugs and kisses to you all…Thanks for making my birthday special!
7:10 pm on February 16th, 2012
Rose,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Hope it’s the first great day of a wonderful year.
B.
Count me in.
7:19 pm on February 16th, 2012
Beautifully said, Melanie.
7:19 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie: That was lovely.
Thanks everyone who wants to help sponsor a checkpoint. It would probably be easiest if you send your check to Snowhook and then email me with the amount if you don’t mind. I’ll then make up the balance. Is that okay?
7:24 pm on February 16th, 2012
Tyb: Thanks for the birthday wishes! Tummies and hugs to you!
7:31 pm on February 16th, 2012
Mealnie: Your words are lovely and heartfelt.
7:43 pm on February 16th, 2012
Stover, I just sent you an email sugesting something else, like donating online, but I will send Snowhook a check. Whatever you want to do.
Rose, yes, you are my two-legged girl here on the blog. Natasha cannot possibly get in a huff over that.
7:46 pm on February 16th, 2012
For the Kats,

Here is a picture of another new friend I made in NY.
7:47 pm on February 16th, 2012
This new checkpoint that Stover is gathering funds for…I propose that we do it in memory of her Doberman, Brandy. What do you guys think?
7:49 pm on February 16th, 2012
Vell, ve could. But ve von’t.
Happy Day of Birth Rose
7:52 pm on February 16th, 2012
I say we do it for B. and Brandy. Now after 10 days of running all over the country I’m about to settle down with a good book. Good Night.

8:00 pm on February 16th, 2012
Melanie – great cake. Maybe just a little piece could get blurred over this way?
And that was a lovely tribute.
TYB – Basil and Sage are in awe!
BSD – ummmm – Mama checked her SDD Was there supposed to be something there from you?
Rose – do you need a lint roller to get all that Husky fur off before the Prof starts sneezing?
8:09 pm on February 16th, 2012
TYB, you are a canine about town!
YSAS loves when the Westminster comes to town. He gets to greet all the dogs as he walks around the city.
T&G, Franklin is home. You will have to see if Belle Star could blur you some cake. I bet she’s there with Rose helping her celebrate!
8:09 pm on February 16th, 2012
Oh, and Melanie, what kind of meds is the Subaru on?

8:12 pm on February 16th, 2012
Oh, Macy and Sam. The Subaru’s “check engine” light is on, but I don’t think it’s from MY medications. snicker
The things we write so unintentionally can be so funny.
Macy, did you get the meal?
8:14 pm on February 16th, 2012
SH: I received your email and responded. Pay Snowhook by whatever method you choose. You gave me the amount. I’ll simply make up the balance. Lots of people have responded. I’ve sent an email to Rebecca and AJ to explain that several Plunderers are sponsoring a checkpoint and that they will be receiving the funds from each.
Thank you all so much for naming this in memory of Brandy.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING DECALS AND MAGNETS!!!
We have lots of each but somebody (my mom) has been a little disorganized and tech challenged in getting the word out. Here’s what we are going to do….simply email your snail mail address to aller@sti.net. BearSpiritDog is the official mailer. Specify what kind you want…we have water color and photo magnets and decals, and we even have some special items that have Rebecca’s spirit on the trail with AJ. We have all been so wonderfully generous and this is a special gift to the special Plunderers. If you want to send a small donation to Snowhook, that would be great.
Bear, can you please let everyone know how many of each we have?
Mom will send you a SDD tomorrow.

Tyb: Looking good!

Melanie, I did NOT get the meal. A friend posted the picture, but I have not seen anything but (patooie) kibble all week.
Bee, I sent a message, and we will send straight to Snowhook also.
I put that picture up 4 hours ago, but forgot to hit submit I guess. d’oh
Happy, happy, birthday, Rosies.

The cake was fun to make! Catching up takes a lot of work.
Next, wind turbines and dolphins. Several studies say the construction of the turbines disturb the dolphins more than when the turbines are running. These marine scientists say that the dolphins can not hear the very low frequency that the wind turbines produce.
Other studies show beaching in Scotland but they don’t know if they are connected with the turbines or not.
So from what I can tell no one knows anything.
On the map below, which is from http://www.lonelyplanet.com, I took the liberty of putting the purple box where the turbines are and the red box where the dolphins are beaching.
There is a lot of land between the two. No one seems to know how far or where the noise can be heard. So again, not enough data.

Rose!….snort!….I wrote this for you!….wuffle!
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Three checkpoints are sponsored
All by You!
Happy Birthday Rose!….snorkel!

For what it’s worth. I think the check engine light in a Subaru is a way to get customers into an agency, I’ve been driving Subarus for probably12 years. At first I ran in to correct the problem each time the light came on. One service dept. mgr. said that the light isn’t critical. That’s why it’s amber rather than red. I drove my last Subaru for over a year and probably 30,000 miles with the light on. It would be turned off when I had my yearly state inspection.

Melanie, the cake is beautiful and your words were beautiful, so we say hear, hear, or is it here, here? We are never sure which is right. And how did that saying get started?
In honor of Rose’s birthday, Peaches just layed her first egg of the spring!
Are there any pictures of the decals and magnets?
8:52 pm on February 16th, 2012
Wolfie: This is a Very Special Gift you are offering. Thank You So Much!!! (whispering) I am leaving the counting up to Masquers. Everyone here knows I have limits in that department.
Tupper&Gilly: Don’t know what happened…try it again.
9:00 pm on February 16th, 2012
Barb & MagPie, I am at fault for not having the pictures of the magnets and decals.
I keep getting tired. Jeez Louise.
Now tomorrow, I have the Care Meeting for Dan in the morning. I will try to remember to do the pictures in the afternoon.
If someone could send me a SDD to remind me, I would appreciate it!

Ditto for us, Melanie. Later, Gator.
9:17 pm on February 16th, 2012
Siber: That was a great idea to sponsor a checkpoint in Brandy’s name.
B: Have you chosen a special checkpoint yet?
Tyb: Mom says to tell you she is relieved to hear the check engine light coming on is probably not serious. Ours keeps going on and off (one dealer she called said it might be the gas cap needs replacing)
Melanie: I know your plate is very full right now. Whatever we can do to help just say the word.
9:32 pm on February 16th, 2012
Masquers: I’ll check with Rebecca.

There is wierdosity on the internet. The ipaw was sending but not receiving, and then when we refreshed the blog at 8:50 pm, the last post was from about 8 o’clock. Thats when we realized that the ipaw wasn’t acting right. Think its all straightened out now.
Hope everyone gets a good night’s sleep, and has wonderful dreams of northern lights dancing along the path of our Team.
G’night everyone. Another day tomorrow.

Brandy!…I wonder how many have signed up for the Brandy Checkpoint so far?…sniff!… Stover needs 20 guys to give a mere $12.50 a piece in Brandy’s name to meet her goal…chuffle!…I think she can do it by golly!…wheeze!
11:18 pm on February 16th, 2012
Heels!…. On the heels of tragedy, I’d have to say this was a very good day all in all….snuffle!… We know Rebecca and AJ are still grieving their loss, but I think maybe our continued efforts to ease their load before the Last Great Race will help ….chuffle!….So lets keep it up till we are all broke and damned happy about it!…heh!snorkel!heh!
Goodnight!….We are off to bed to gurgle and grunt in our sleep…wheeze!….Beau is the worst gurgler ever…sniff!…Oh, and the worst farter…cough!gah!….Goodnight!

Once again, I’m late to the party. As I will be taking time away from work during the race, I’m trying to wrap projects up before the race. It is keeping me busy and away from the blog as is general race prep.
My heart is full at the generosity of the Plunderers who have found a way, once again, to lighten our load and make the trip to the starting line easier. Yet, that isn’t the only reason my heart is so full. It is bursting because you have chosen to honor our dear Younger in such a special way.
Many of the Plunderers who sponsored a checkpoint asked for help in selecting a suitable checkpoint. I took each request seriously and tried to suggest a checkpoint that holds some significance for Snowhook or that matched the Plunderer. For Wookie, it had to be Elim, Unalakleet was chosen for Bear and Masquers, Rose honored Howard and for me, it had to be Safety.
Throughout helping Plunderers select a checkpoint, Nome came to mind a couple of times but I could not give it up. Every time I thought to suggest it, and there were a couple of times, I couldn’t. I didn’t. I couldn’t help but feel that it was being ‘held’ for something special. As much as I wish there wasn’t a need to honor Younger or any dog in this way, I would like to select the Nome checkpoint in Younger’s memory. He is a special dog for a special checkpoint.
B: I thank you for rallying to sponsor another checkpoint and I think doing so in Brandy’s honor is a perfect idea.
Melanie: Thank you for your thoughts. They add to the comfort given by the Plunderers and the quilt. Thank you to each of you.
Wolfie: Magnets, decals and patches—oh, my! I do have a Chet the Dog section on the Musher Mercantile link on our blog.
Rose: Happy birthday! I assume that the sticky note I found when I got home that said, “Borrowed some Benedryl for the Prof. Be back later,” means that the girls are with you. Belle Starr will be happy she is celebrating someone’s birthday if not her own. She’s been complaining that we didn’t celebrate either of her birthdays—she was born a week before the Outlaw litter, but raised with them so she counts both days as her own.
The drop bags have been delivered to be shipped out along the trail. We shipped approximately 1400 pounds—the most we’ve been able to send out ever thanks to each of you for your support. AJ doesn’t know it, but I included a slip of paper in with his people food with notes written on each. The notes say things like: you didn’t sacrifice and train just to start the race, I am with you, and one that I think you’ll all appreciate, Plunder on!
Rio: I know you are disappointed. First, not winning the Powerball and now losing the quilt to the Howlers.
Howlers: I will package and ship the quilt either tomorrow or Saturday. Enjoy!

Once again, I want to thank youse guys for all the special birthday wishes. It meant a lot to me.
Rebecca: The girls had two slices of cake…one from Mealnie’s, and a piece of Carvel ice-cream cake.
Rio: Thank you for the very nice birthday poem.
