Yesterday we promised the first 2 sentences of RUFF VS. FLUFF, the first Queenie and Arthur novel, coming in March. (See yesterday’s post for the details on why and how to send us $1000 in small bills.) Now, instead of a measly 2 sentences, how about a very generous 5? Here is the beginning of RUFF VS. FLUFF.

I have the most beautiful voice. I use it to say just one thing: Me-ow! Have you ever heard anything so lovely? And it starts with “me”! How great is that?

Hi, guys! I used to have a polydactyl brother named Toes (Mom adopted him with that name.) He was a wonderful guy. He loved for Mom to hold him like a cradled baby or on her hip like a wee child. He had extra toes on all 4 paws and the ones on the front feet were on the side and looked liked thumbs. One thing he liked to do was suckle the gap between the “thumb” and the other toes. I will see if Mom has a picture of him I can post. Hobbit, those kittens will be so cute running all over the place in a few weeks.

The first sentence must be the hardest one for an author to write. OFA nails them.

I was comforted and delighted last night with the report of Butch and Sundance. They are going to have a wonderful life with so many paws to help them. Tips for Thieves since they have never been around kitties
    1. Read Ruff and Fluff–the pre-pub book will be fine. Note the above first sentence
    2. Despite your best efforts to turn them into pseudo-dogs, you will never be able to change their meow to a bark or a howl
    3. If you see them wagging their tails, they are NOT happy and do not want to be friends at the moment. Do not approach
    4. If you see them in a play posture position, they are not inviting you to play. Do not approach, they are doing yoga (Downward Dog position)
    4. They may want to groom you. Be prepared to be sandpapered
    5. The first time they climb a tree, they may get stuck and not know how to get down. If an angel is not available for rescue, lie down around the tree and your fluffy fur will act as a landing pad.

Hobbitz: Thank you for those helpful tips. Below is our progress:

    1. It feels like that is a challenge to get our paws on a pre-pub copy of Ruff vs. Fluff. We hope SQPA sets his alarm in his office. We feel the challenge makes our skills improve.
    2. We have retained the services of Wookie to negotiate a meow for a yark and a hiss for a howl. Negotiations are still in process.
    3. According to Luna, there is no rough housing with Butch and Sundance until they grow a bit.
    4. If they can do downward facing dog means they are part dog. That is half the battle. Our work is practically complete.
    5. Does this hold true if we are the reason they climb said tree in the first place?

Beau: We would like 12 weeks of excused absence under the Litter Medical Leave Act.
