Romantic Curve Intersects With Pragmatic Curve
“Ah,” Spence says, “season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.”
“You’re volunteering to rake the damn leaves?” Admin says.
“What happened to the blower?”
Have a great weekend, everybody!

Tee-hee on we….GOOD, gah sometimes the keys are too close together for our paws.
9:14 am on October 11th, 2013
Good morning!
Love that one, T&G !!! It even has Abby’s name on it!!!
9:17 am on October 11th, 2013
Howdy, It is raining T.C.’s and Kat’s here today. We are all working indoors with Mom. Dima has to go to the vampire later, and he is hoping the rain stops for that bit.
The Iditarod Trail Committee just posted this new Iditarod print by Jon Van Zyle. We love it.

9:40 am on October 11th, 2013
Good morning all. Love T & G’s and Oley’s posts.
Landscapers arrived at 7:30, removed sod and planted 8 bushes by 8:30 and are gone. That would have been a weekend project and many sore muscles for Barb.
9:40 am on October 11th, 2013
“Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? / Think not of them, thou hast they music too” (“To Autumn,” John Keats, 1820). Excellent Spence! Love that poem.
Good morning all.

Bee – sometimes you scare us. You really do.
10:33 am on October 11th, 2013
Poetic Fall . .
And in the Stockade I am considering using the lama dryer as a leaf blower.
Haven’t heard from the doc yet. Soooo, all plans off until I hear something.
Carpola. They have some big meeting today. Just don’t know when that is.
10:38 am on October 11th, 2013
B never scares me. Amazes, yes, but never scare.
10:43 am on October 11th, 2013
Awww, Riö, I love you too. Would you like some Newf kisses and hugs?
11:02 am on October 11th, 2013
No falling leaves or mists here. There might be some mellow fruitfulness going on.
We have never understood the purpose of leaf blowers. There is no place to blow them except into the neighbors yard or the street. That would be frowned upon.
Fellow Sibers, Beautiful Iditarod print.

Greetings!
I have taken some time off from my busy-place. Yipee! Christmas shopping will start today.
That is a goreous Iditarod poster. Anyone going to the Mushers’ Banquet should get one, and get on the autograph line early. Wish I could be there!
Sammie: Excellent idea about Niagara Falls. Maybe Grizz, me, Rio, and Rio’s friend can go there first. It is awesome. Grizz and I went there along time ago, and rode on The Maid of the Mist.
RIO! Please tell your friend I would love to be her train/plain travel buddy. I like both.
T&G: Love the cartoon. Love youse too.
11:18 am on October 11th, 2013
Awwww – shucks…
11:19 am on October 11th, 2013
Siber-H, I need leaves to put over the asparagus patch!
11:20 am on October 11th, 2013
So much talk of autumn has mom in a fall frenzy. She will ignore the leaves (says the ones that stay make a nice winter mulch and annoy prissy neighbors) until spring when she starts the compost pile again. But the pie talk really got her going so today is Chicken Pot Pie and Apple Pie. Hey, anyone ever hear of a salad pie? Let’s go whole hog! (sorry Chet, no pigs involved. Don’t ask.)
12:01 pm on October 11th, 2013
Oh, T&G. I’m not scary. I just love literature and language. And Charlie loves Keats.
Here is “To Autumn” for those interested.

HRH B: Thank you for the poem. It has been a loooog time since mom read that and she just did a dramatic reading for us. Sometimes she can be pretty silly!
12:33 pm on October 11th, 2013
It’s true. I love Keats. I also love treats.
12:44 pm on October 11th, 2013
Thanks to Spence and BStover for the poem.
It is a lovely Autumn day so I will be outside most of the day, ignoring the book piles that are covering every available space (except the bookcase) in the living/dining room. I could use a library room.
1:07 pm on October 11th, 2013
Bee – in Harry Potter, The Sorcerer’s Stone, Ron Weasley says to Hermione “sometimes you are just scary. Brilliant….but scary. ”
You are our Hermione. In only the best way.
1:09 pm on October 11th, 2013
Back from Farm and Fleet. Bought $20 of mulch rather than paying the landscapers $60 to do the job. Not a favorite project, but $40 is worth while.
Jack is here for 2 hours than mama bear is picking him up for a haircut, and then they are heading north for a 3 day holiday. Barb will be spending a quiet weekend, thank Dawg.
Melanie, any word yet from the docs?
1:13 pm on October 11th, 2013
B&M: Barb is so pennywise. 🙂
HRH B really is “the smartest…of her age” (And most other ages if the truth be told).
1:23 pm on October 11th, 2013
No word from anyone. sigh. I don’t do waiting particularly well. (raising one eyebrow)
I didn’t know that I could get tired from waiting.
I decided I would wait here. There is beautiful music and lots of books. If anyone is waiting . . or not . . please drop in.

1:25 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: Mom will be right there, if she trusts us to take the apple pie out of the oven. If not, would you like the company of the Herd? We are available.
1:26 pm on October 11th, 2013
I like Hermione. And you guys are making me blush (at my age). It’s simply that I’ve read a great deal. Charlie is cracking me up.
I just started reading a book of poems called “Dog Songs” by Mary Oliver. (She won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry years ago for her collection “American Primitive”). In the new collection the narrative voice is sometimes a person and sometimes a dog. (She’s had several dogs and uses each as narrator.) Here’s a sample of the person narrating:
“You may not agree, you may not care, but
if you are holding this book you should know
that of all the sights I love in this world–
and there are plenty–very near the top of
the list is this one: dogs without leashes.”
1:46 pm on October 11th, 2013
B: Do you want to blur over and help Melanie wait?
1:49 pm on October 11th, 2013
Unless that dog is mine, running toward the major road, full throttle.
Here is our contribution to the poetry fest today.
He’s a poet and don’t know it but his feet show it.
For they are such Longfellows.
Heh-heh, are we literary or whut!
2:00 pm on October 11th, 2013
Sure Charlie. Melanie is in the Hearst Castle library…a lovely place to wait.
2:00 pm on October 11th, 2013
We love that poem, Bee!
2:12 pm on October 11th, 2013
Mom was there (Hearst Castle) several times, the last one being when Patty Hearst was kidnapped by the SLA. It is over the top opulent and a must see for anyone who visits the central coast of CA.
2:26 pm on October 11th, 2013
Oh, oh…we might be in the doghouse. We let the apple pie get a bit brown around the edges, but it smells really good. Mom, we’ll let you do the chicken pie tonight. Stay there with Melanie and Charlie and.. for a bit longer.
2:30 pm on October 11th, 2013
Rooom for all here, two amd four footed!
Nothing yet. An email in and a phone call.
2:33 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: Breathe in, breathe out. Sotp chewing you finger nails. Squeeze mom’s hand tighter, she can take it. They won’t make you wait 2 weeks like they did mom, they wouldn’t dare! 🙂
2:37 pm on October 11th, 2013
Yes!
Melanie: I would hang out in that library.
When I win the lottery, I would like one of those libraries that have a ladder built in to get to the high shelves – wait! I forgot that I am not a good ladder climber.
Instead, I will keep the bookcases I have and sort and get rid of some of these books. (sob)
2:38 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: Would stroking my flip-floppy ears help you wait? I know it would make me feel better.
2:53 pm on October 11th, 2013
For Melanie to read while she whiles away her time in that beautiful library:
You may not agree, you may not care, but
if you are looking at us Howlers you should know
that of all the sights you should fear in this world–
and there are plenty–very near the top of
the list is this one: huskies without leashes
2:53 pm on October 11th, 2013
Oh Dawson, we thought that WAS your library!
Enuff waiting already, call Melanie youse guys!
Barb has half the mulch spread, about 45 minutes of labor. Hope she is not penny wise and pound foolish!
3:10 pm on October 11th, 2013
Now the Howlers are cracking me up.
3:13 pm on October 11th, 2013
B&M: Barb would never be pound foolish. Oh, mom said t tell you her quarterly statement came today and even if the idiots in D.C. are messing with our $$$, the last quarter was productive so try to plan for AK 2014. We want you there.
4:22 pm on October 11th, 2013
Just heard from the nurse. The big meeting was today. The doc then had to do procedures for the rest of the day.
If he calls today it will be after 5 pm. Otherwise Tuesday.
Sob
4:23 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: I would run your ears, but I don’t have fancy thumbs. You don’t have fancy flip-floppy ears so I guess neither of us are perfect.
4:27 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie, How can they make you wait until Tuesday???? Get the Pink Bulldozer on the case.
4:30 pm on October 11th, 2013
Pancho and Lefty have offered to grab some pant legs if needed.
4:42 pm on October 11th, 2013
So, if he doesn’t get around to it, he will make you wait Saturday, Sunday AND Monday, due to the holiday? That is torture! Barb says that for some reason, these big medical things always seem to span a weekend.
4:43 pm on October 11th, 2013
I agree with the Howlers…Get them Golinka!
This is wrong, wrong, wrong, but I know this is not unusual for doctors to behave this way.
4:47 pm on October 11th, 2013
Ask, politely, for the dr. to put the foo on the other shoot. Would he be willing to wait that long. Is it humane? Does it do no harm?
4:49 pm on October 11th, 2013
Sibers without leashes is never a good thing…not because we are a threat to humans but because you two-leggeds can’t catch us.
4:53 pm on October 11th, 2013
I suppose we are asking too much of these doctors to just stop and think for one second. Doctors are really losing the respect of a lot of people in this country and this kind of crap is why.
5:29 pm on October 11th, 2013
Siber MrH: Agreee with you about sibers on leashes. Our Kahlua (siber & gShep) could and did RUN. Was good at it. She never ran away, just didn’t remember how to get home 🙁
5:31 pm on October 11th, 2013
I remember a time when I ran like someone left the gate open. It was fun at first. Then it stopped being fun.
6:41 pm on October 11th, 2013
Zoë and I agree that the doc is a good doc. Dog knows he would call me if he could.
I have now cloned the quilt and I’m making a fort in the library. The O’Howlers are creating
terriblewonderful poems. The HOH’s have stolen their Mom’s apple pie, and it is delicious. Charlie’s ears are warm and fluffy. StarrBelle has been sprinkling glitter everywhere. Tenzing, BearSpiritDog, and Frank are great pillows. Princess Sam has left LuLu somewhere with the Herbs. I’m getting a little worried about the Herbs because the Corgis are laughing. The rest of Chet’s Feline Friends have disappeared into the bookcases. The rest of The Pack are snoring pn the furniture. I have no idea where Riö and Beau are. Wölfie picked them up, and there was snorting about beer and hot wings.
Macie and her Mr. Redbone Hound have just arrived.
And here comes the rest of the Snowhook Team and Sadie pulling the fourwheeler. No AJ though. Someone is on the fourwheeler . . It’s Teddy Ruff Rider!
Come one, come all. We might do so’mores.
What fun! I hope Leno shows up after Buddy goes to sleep.
What a wonderful way to wait . .
7:05 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie – Mama says it could be worse. We could have a congress that was made up of doctors!
7:42 pm on October 11th, 2013
Doc called. It is not liver cancer, though it’s in my liver. Dog, my body is weird. I get to go for a PET scan next. Though the troops here are doing a pretty good job of scanning!
We will know more after the PET scan. sigh.
Looking forward to seeing my guys and best LLL (GLAD has a workshop she’s leading) tomorrow.
I will probably hit the straw, hay, bed soon. Might look in a little later.
7:45 pm on October 11th, 2013
Well Melanie if those blasted herd have stolen the pie, We’ll all be there in 3 shakes of a lamb’s tail (work on that, Chet). Mom is bringing ice cream for pie a la mode !
8:03 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie – Mama says we can give you some healing Herbs so you feel better.
Well, maybe that’s not EXACTLY what she said, but we are willing to go with it.
8:28 pm on October 11th, 2013
Home!….What’s going on around here?…sniff!…My friend brought home mini-burgers and we all partook of them…heh!heh!…Then we had to walk…grunt!…But not too far as my friend is suffering from allergies. All week long now, nothing has helped…sniff!…She is exhausted from coughing…gasp!
8:32 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: That’s great news that you do not have liver cancer. I’m glad you did not have to wait until Tuesday to hear it.
Freaking Amazing!
Rio: Tell your friend I got it! Safe and sound, not a scuff mark on the box. They must’ve babied it the whole way and Wow! Wow! Wow! I can hardly believe how strikingly beautiful it is and as compared to “The Spanish Fan” has more depth, complexity and maturity with a hint of Genius!
I am going to pour a nice glass of wine, make a plate of bread, cheese and olives and stare at it in awe for awhile.
8:35 pm on October 11th, 2013
B. About an hour ago Mr.Staff read this Dog Song to me. There was an ad for the book in the New Yorker.
Little Dog’s Rhapsody in the Night
He puts his cheek against mine
and makes small, expressive sounds.
And when I’m awake, or
awake enough
he turns upside down, his four paws
in the air
and his eyes dark and fervent.
“Tell me you love me,” he days.
“Tell me again.”
Could there be sweeter
arrangement? Over and over
he gets to ask.
I get to tell.
8:36 pm on October 11th, 2013
YEEEEEP!….snort!….Someone here is twirling and spinning!…heh!…What a big, huge, gigantic relief!…wheeze!….Dawson, now you see why someone was so damned worrit about it. That piece was a LOT of work…heh!heh!….Whew!
8:38 pm on October 11th, 2013
Dawson!…You can open the frame, but someone does not advise it because of the chance you might get some wine on it…heh!…But the interesting thing is you are the only one who now owns two special projects in frames that open from the front…chuffle!
8:41 pm on October 11th, 2013
Dawson!…She signed it on the back…sniff!…But once again, the advice is not to open it and remove it from the frame as you might get olive juice on it….snort!
8:42 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie, Yes. I am so glad to hear it is not the dreaded C word. So now we deal with what is there. Hugs and kat kisses to you. from Staff, Alice and AbbietheKitty.
Twirling here…
8:46 pm on October 11th, 2013
Rio: That’s why I really wanted this one so bad, because it had that type of frame. This one is even nicer with the magnetic closure. Even the man that lives here said so. Then he said how much did it cost? It was a steal.
8:49 pm on October 11th, 2013
News!…All kinds of good news tonight!….Wooooo!….Slurpy, sloppy, kat-poopish smelling great big Pug kisses to Melanie for all her patience today…heh!heh!
8:51 pm on October 11th, 2013
Steal!…Yup!…Dawson, someone here was hoping others would bid on it and bring it up over the 100 mark, but hey, if you appreciate it, that is all that matters…snort!
8:52 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie, glad the doc called. Now we continue waiting. But First: We dance the weekend away!!!! Awooooo!!!
Staff, another beautiful poem.
We just had tacos, made with homegrown lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, peppers, and our delish beef from our 1/4 side raised by our friends. Wow! What a great Friday night meal.
8:54 pm on October 11th, 2013
Factoid!…Dawson, one more special fact about the project…sniffle!….The frame was the frame my friend bought to put her very first “framed” project in. She gave it to Grandma at Christmas 2010…snuffle!…Grandma had it for about one week and then she passed away. My friend made a special point of getting that project back from grandma’s room at the senior home at the time….wuffle!…It was a very heart wrenching time. But the frame lived on to hold another special project…sob!
8:55 pm on October 11th, 2013
Rio: I do! It is magnificent. I don’t remember exactly what I gave for it.
8:58 pm on October 11th, 2013
Dawson!…60 bucks…sniff!
9:11 pm on October 11th, 2013
Yeah. A Steal.
Rio: I will dedicate my next donation to Snowhook to your friend.
9:29 pm on October 11th, 2013
Dawson!…That is all she wanted to do is raise more money for Snowhook…snort!…So that would be perfect….chuffle!….A slobbery, smelly Pug kiss for you too!…Woooo!
9:40 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: great news
Staff: great poem
I am one tired dog today. Ugh
9:43 pm on October 11th, 2013
Explanation!…I’m confused about what is really wrong with Melanie…sniff!…I thought it was the big C, then today she waited around to find out it was not the big C. A Big Relief for sure! ..snort!…So is it a mass in her liver that can be surgically removed?…wheeze!
10:04 pm on October 11th, 2013
I am not sure Melanie said it is not cancer. She said it is not liver cancer, but it is in her liver. So I read it as it could be another type of cancer in her liver. We will have to wait for an update.
10:07 pm on October 11th, 2013
Barb!…I’m glad I am not the only one who is not completely sure what is going on…sniffle!… Zombie Melanie is not that easy to make heads or tails of sometimes…wuffle!….I know this week has been a very hard one for her and my pug-heart goes out to her and her family…sniff!…But I would really like to know the straight story about what we are all facing…grunt!
10:21 pm on October 11th, 2013
Oh, sort of forgot to continue . .
It is cancer. They just don’t know what it is. They have ruled out some nasty types. The PET Scan is to see if there is cancer any where else. It might give an idea of what this is.
Told you I was weird.
The Herbs have been found and are now singing One Million Plants of Katnip on the Wall. I think my wait is going to seem interminable.
10:26 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie!…Oh.
And Melanie!….I am so very sorry you have to go through this….sniffle!
10:29 pm on October 11th, 2013
Melanie: I admit, a state of confusion is my normal state.
10:33 pm on October 11th, 2013
Thank you Melanie for clarifying for us. I know, before having my own cancer, I thought if you had cancer in the lungs, it was lung cancer; cancer in the breast, it was breast cancer, etc, etc. I guess that is not the case. They have to find out the primary source, and treat it properly from there.
11:21 pm on October 11th, 2013
Yikes. More prayers coming at Melanie. And the hugs and kat kisses too. It goes without saying.
Nighty noodle to all youse guys. Stay tucked under the quilt. Warm and snuggly.
11:24 pm on October 11th, 2013
We are sticking with our original theory. Melanie is growing some kind of gem to go with the pearls that were in her knee.
So glad her family will all be around her this weekend.
Saying goodnight to all our friends. Since the Wrotten Kats are off in the waiting room singing to Melanie, we will get to sleep in peace.
G’night all.
11:31 pm on October 11th, 2013
Daily dose of dainty licks, Melanie.
3:14 am on October 12th, 2013
Dog, can anyone get those Herbs to stop singing?they hace yet to get out of the 900,000sies.
(YELLING) Thanks Riö and Everyone!
Hmmm, the Kats have stopped.
Nope, I was wrong.
Zombie Melanie, Over and Out.
(now where are my slippers? I need to throw them)
8:03 pm on October 12th, 2013
Boston!….”Who Knew!”….grunt!….The announcer just opened with that bit…heh!….We are watching the Red Sox vs Tigers game. Dawson are you going to watch this game tonight?? I bet ole Spencer is glued to the TV….chuffle!….Pretty exciting, your Tigers in the play-offs!…Wooooo!
