RIP Excalibur
A very sad story. And complicated, but even after reading the linked article, we still think there was no need to do this, morally or practically.
Note: Still working on a fix for the Friends gallery. No uploading possible at this time.

Morning, everyone. Too sad a story and grossly unfair. Where is the study? Where are the funds? What was being thought? Since we know there is an almost pandemic and humans and the nation within live in such close proximity people/doctors/scientists should know how “man’s best friend” is affected. (grunt, groan, climbing off soapbox now)
Have a tip top (or at least a tippy) Thursday.
8:00 am on October 9th, 2014
Very sad indeed. 86,000 signatures had no effect on the Spanish authorities.
Do not read it Howlers.
Good morning all.
8:19 am on October 9th, 2014
Greetings!
I can not bear to read today’s link. But to Excalibur, I say may you rest in peace, knowing that your human loved you.
Hey, I like all that British slang! I have heard John Lennon use the word “git” in one of his songs from The White Album. (I think that’s the album). My friend Joe, always uses the word “chapped” as a substitute for pi@$ed.
HRH, B: Please forgive my forgetfulness, a few weeks ago, you explained the use of another British word for whine. What was that word? I will write it down.
8:40 am on October 9th, 2014
Wose, some things really chap our hides š

Royal Mum: Please check your SDD.
9:29 am on October 9th, 2014
The entire situation is very sad and worrying.
Rose: The British word for “whine” is “whinge.” (I love the word “git.”)
Good morning all.
9:33 am on October 9th, 2014
Thank you for all of your work, Wose!
I am not reading that sad story.
Good morning all.
9:39 am on October 9th, 2014
BB: a wise choice, tears and anger here!
9:44 am on October 9th, 2014
Oh, I think that word for whine for Pennsylvania Dutch. I think the Howlers mentioned it.
Thank you, HRH,B!
9:47 am on October 9th, 2014
“Berk” is also a good word.
9:49 am on October 9th, 2014
Rose: I think the word the Howlers mentioned is “grex” meaning “complain.”
10:01 am on October 9th, 2014
WOOF, ARF, GRRR, HONK! The electric company people are trimming the trees that grow up near the roads by the power lines and today they are in front of OUR casa, amigo. You bet the farm we are letting them know we see them. Too bad the pant legs are on the other side of our fence š
10:09 am on October 9th, 2014
HRH, B: Yes, grex is the word!
HOH: You make sure those gits don’t come on your property.
10:14 am on October 9th, 2014
But Wose, they follow the lines, and some of them cross the front yard š Know we will bark our pretty heads off!
Nana, hope you took your bumbershoot and slicker to St. Louis. Looks like a really wet day there.
10:49 am on October 9th, 2014
Can’t wait to see the calendar.

Not reading the link – we already know about it and have pounded our fists in frustration.
Bee- this is for you:
10:50 am on October 9th, 2014
AAAAARRRRGGGHH! Sideways!
10:54 am on October 9th, 2014
We thought if was that was for neck exercise. Mom thought it was for library practice!
11:01 am on October 9th, 2014
Darah Thea here with a great new game. Those annoying deer keep prancing around MY yard so I chase them along the fence. They are pretty quick but I can honk louder. Boy, do they jump and scoot then. Mom laughs and laughs.
11:12 am on October 9th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: That is something up with which the dog will not put. (Say that five times fast!)
The Noble Prize in Literature for 2014 has been awarded to Patrick Modiano, a French author. I’ve never read any of his works.
11:12 am on October 9th, 2014
Not reading the link. Nope can’t make me.
11:18 am on October 9th, 2014
I am not reading the link either. It was on the tube last night. Grrrr.
Wose: Very excited about the calendar! I knew you would do an excellent job. I believe you are a very brave meek person to take on this project!
Tupper’s Mama: Sideways, and when I click to enlarge I get the top part with none of the words. Will have to wait until I get home. I will not have access to the INternet while traveling.
12:46 pm on October 9th, 2014
I read the link but then I had already read about the dog being killed. It makes me very angry. I don’t think they know what they are doing in Spain.
I feel sorry for the nursing assistant that caught Ebola. I suspect she is the victim of poor training and supervision.
12:52 pm on October 9th, 2014
Rio!
Shakeups in the Rockies organization. I hope the changes they are making will be improvements.
Because of the Isotopes now belonging to the Rockies there will be more Rockies news in my newspaper. There was a nice picture of Helton this morning.
The next baseball games are Friday and Sat. evenings.
1:00 pm on October 9th, 2014
The bus is delayed for 2 hours which is annoying but I have a light mystery novel by Peter Mayle about a robbery of some very expensive Bordeaux wine. I would love to taste that wine.
I will have to look up Patrick Modiano, of whom I’ve never heard.
1:03 pm on October 9th, 2014
Oh Dawson, how literary thou waxeth!
1:04 pm on October 9th, 2014
Oh no!
BStover: Was my first sentence above a comma splice? I apologize. I meant to add that, though annoying, I have a book to read so I am not as chapped as I would be otherwise.checked
1:11 pm on October 9th, 2014
Ummm. I have no idea where the word checked came from. I did not type that word!
1:16 pm on October 9th, 2014
Dawson: You do not have a comma splice. (I’d love to taste the Bordeaux also.)
1:23 pm on October 9th, 2014
Rose: Thank you for stepping up and finishing this long talked about project. Whoo Hoo to youse.
Day 2 of workmen. They were to arrive between 8:15 and 8:30. They arrived at 9:00. This problem is that I am leaving the house at 5:30 to fly to Fairbanks for the weekend so everything has to be done and the main living area put back in order.
Yesterday the guy with the broken hand unplugged my tankless hot water heater to foam the outlet and forgot to plug it back in. I couldn’t figure out why the water was so cold this morning and wouldn’t turn hot. I could see that the monitor in the garage was dark and the power button wouldn’t work but it took me a few moments to remember the cardinal rule of repairs: follow the cord. Usually it is an issue of a cord being unplugged. At least I avoided an unnecessary and costly emergency call to a heating company.
1:31 pm on October 9th, 2014
Dear Hobbit – it is time to put on your butt-kicking boots, and take appropriate action with them!
1:32 pm on October 9th, 2014
CHobbit: Time to channel your inner Pink Bulldozer!
1:47 pm on October 9th, 2014
CHobbit, to heck with the inner pink bulldozer, put on an outer bulldozer. If that doesn’t work, perhaps a pink beotch š (Remember the smile, it is always impotant)
2:02 pm on October 9th, 2014
Hobbit, Biting a pant leg seems to work.
2:10 pm on October 9th, 2014
HOH: Before I make the big calendar order, correct me, because I know I am wrong, yes I do. Darah Thea is your full name, correct? For some reason I thought it was different hounds.
2:12 pm on October 9th, 2014

MPM: That is a great picture!
8:02 pm on October 9th, 2014
Well, I leave in a 90 minutes and the crew has yet to start the attic. Two people had called in sick at 7:30 who were supposed to have been part of the job. Either flu is going around or the company has problems. They said they would stay to finish and lock up afterwards but I think my dog sitter may be uncomfortable with the situation.
8:11 pm on October 9th, 2014
Hobbit: What a fiasco!
8:12 pm on October 9th, 2014
Hobbit, They do not sound responsible enough to let in your house when you leave.
We just got back from our walk. Lovely night, and just now the biggest moon is on its way up.
Mom wants us to tell you about a wonderful movie she watched at her workplace this week: “The Lady in Number 6”. It won the Oscar for best documentary. The story is about Alice Herz Sommer, who at 109, is the oldest living pianist as well as oldest-living Holocaust survivor. It is the most uplifting and inspirational film. The group Mom watched it with had a discussion period after the film ended. That was really nice too.
It is only 40 minutes. Here is a link about it, with a trailer.

RIO! Please check your SDDS when able. I will be heading off to my big, soft bed, with no baseball toys in all the right places, so you have time to think about your answer.
8:18 pm on October 9th, 2014
Yeep! That extra D in my last post probably fell out of my pointy head.
Ahem. I have placed the calendar order. Cost, with shipping and handling will be $20. Payment can be made upon receipt of your calendar(s).

Things just keep getting better and better. Sadie escaped because they had left the garage and dog pen gates open so whether she was in the house or on the deck, she could take off. I discovered she was gone just when I was running out of time and needing to get to the airport. When I left for the airport at 5:45, she was still MIA. But they did call me at 6:15 to say she was back home. Probably wanting supper.
I had checked in for the flight at 5:00 at home and the flight was on time. However once I got to the airport I find that the flight has been delayed two hours until 9:20. I think the plane is here but they are waiting for the flight crew to arrive on an incoming plane. So I have almost 3 hours to kill.
P.S. When I left the house at 5:45, the crew was just starting to work on the attic. My dog sitter has a class and won’t be home until after 8:00. It has been a long day.
10:39 pm on October 9th, 2014
Oh My Dog CHobbit! I think those workmen are terrible!
Rose I can’t wait for the calendars.
Rio..No.
ML I was reading my new copy of Cooks Illustrated today and they had a section on testing Carbon Steel Chef’s knives. They tested all these knives, some of which cost nearly 300.00 and their top choice was…the Victorinox knife just like the one I bought from YOU YOU YOU and Rick. I do love it a reach for it before my other knives. I bought the shorter one, about 6 inches and now am bummed that I didn’t get the longer one too.
10:40 pm on October 9th, 2014
I’m home!
The bus did not leave until 2 pm, waiting on a patient. Sheesh!
CHobbit: Worst company ever!
10:40 pm on October 9th, 2014
CHOBBIT!!!!…I am worrit about Sadie and your house…growl!…If my friend was in your place she would be completely beside herself in more ways than 2…grump!
10:41 pm on October 9th, 2014
DAWSON!…I’ve been worrit about you all day long and here we are posting at the same time…wheeze!…Oh my dawg!

I am excited to announce the full sponsorship of Eagle Island checkpoint in honor of the Navajo Code Talkers. Golinka tells me the last Navajo Code Talker crossed the bridge earlier this year. What an inspirational group of men! We welcome them to the Iditarod Trail 2015!
WhooooHoooo! Thanks to the Storyteller and Golinka for honoring the Navaho Code Talkers and Snowhook Kennels in this way.
