RIP: Elizabeth Taylor
“I suppose,” says Spence, “that you want to start by mentioning she had nice teeth.”
“No,” says Admin. “Although it’s true. But I was wondering whether any of the readers of the blog ever saw her in person.”
“Did you?”
“No. But my parents did. They once found themselves in the same hotel as Taylor and Burton. A small hotel with a nice little sitting area where you could have drinks. Apparently those stories about her lavender eyes were true.”
“Why don’t you call your dad and get more details?”
“At this hour? He’ll be racing that boat of his or lifting weights or making that grapefruit marmalade. But one other thing about Elizabeth Taylor – she was a dog person, no doubt about it.”
“Starred in the first Lassie movie?”
“Yup. And had lots of dogs in her life. We’ll put a link down at the bottom.”
“What about this Iditarod 2012 thing the Plunderers are plotting about?”
“Sounds good. Let’s ponder.”
“Ponder and plunder.”
“You said it.”
Welcome Sparky.

Morning everyone: “Some of my best men have been dogs and horses” I love that quote from Liz Taylor with the violet eyes.
We’ve got the go ahead to arrange a Plunderers donation group to Snowhook.
I’ll have to catch up after work. Enjoy the day – avoid the potholes along the way.
9:47 am on March 24th, 2011
My dad saw Elizabeth Taylor once in NYC and says she has to have been one of the most beautiful women who has ever lived. Count us in on the donation group to Snowhook.
9:48 am on March 24th, 2011
I introduced my post with Good Morning, Everyone. It didn’t take so I’m saying it again. Must be the goats are back.
9:56 am on March 24th, 2011
Thank you for that quotation Dawson. I had never heard it before. I’ve never heard of grapefruit marmalade either. Interesting.
When Rio gets a chance he’s setting up the Plunderers’ donation to Snowhook from Chet’s blog.
Good morning all.
9:59 am on March 24th, 2011
Teeth!…. Thank goodness Admin and Spence are back….snort!… I was starting to think they had R-U-N-N-O-F-T with their dentist…heh!
10:11 am on March 24th, 2011
Good morning. Interesting article about Liz (which she hated being called) and her dogs.
Count us in on the donation, too.
Glad to get a break from the you know whats. Can’t we talk about tin futures instead? And will we ever get an end to Astrid?
10:37 am on March 24th, 2011
Stover!…And Plunderers, I will try and sort out a few things and once I have a definite plan in mind about the Snowhook Kennel donation, I will spell it out for everyone. ….snort! …Then you all can agree, disagree or suggest a better idea….sniff!…How does that sound?…snorkel!
11:00 am on March 24th, 2011
Spence & Admin: Thank you for the link. See you also managed to get a mention of teeth in there.
We’d like to add a quote from Elizabeth Taylor heard yesterday: “I call upon you to draw from the depths of your being – to prove that we are a human race, to prove that our love outweighs our need to hate, that our compassion is more compelling than our need to blame.”
The Chet the Dog group donation for Snowhook is a great idea! We’re in!
Melanie-Still trying to get information on the Snowhook calendar. Do you remember where you saw it?
Good Morning to All!
11:05 am on March 24th, 2011
Good Morning y’all,
We are in on the Snowhook thing.
Barb, we heard on the radio that in England a man has opened a hotel for chickens. What do they stuff the pillows with? “Ahhh, that is my brother!”
11:15 am on March 24th, 2011
Macy, Have never heard of a hotel for chickens, and that begs the question, why would you want one?
Perhaps goose down would be permissable for stuffing pillows, but NEVER chicken feathers!
Melanie is usually an early bird. Hope things are going smoothly there today.
Melanie, are you looking into getting some outside help?
11:28 am on March 24th, 2011
Hotel!… A chicken hotel….heh!snort!heh!… Now that is funny! How do chickens pay for their rooms?…snort! …I bet the hotel is run by a Rooster and he only accepts female chickens as “guests”….chorkle!
11:41 am on March 24th, 2011
Melanie!… Melanie and Zoe both have doctors appointments today I believe….snort!…At least that’s what I remember reading from yesterday…grunt!
11:46 am on March 24th, 2011
Mr. Tibbs!…. You are in the business of raising money for organizations….snort!… How do you suggest we set up a bank account for donations to Snowhook? We would need someone to take ownership of the account, someone who wouldn’t skip off with all the money in the end….heh! snort!
12:06 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio is correct. Melanie and Zoe both had doctor’s appointments today.

Where are you guys getting this information about Snowhook? On Facebook? When I try to go to Snowhook’s website, it says “This account suspended”.
Rio said in his 11:36 post last night why Snowhook is a good choice for us to help. I believe the same thing Rio does…those guys love their dogs. I wish you could see the brief video on the Iditarod’s website where AJ holds up Whitey-Lance so he can high-five the burled arch at the finish line in Nome. The contented, smiling, expression on Whitey’s face is priceless, and only a true dog nut, AJ, would think of doing something like that.
Some of Snowhooks dogs are rescues.
1:08 pm on March 24th, 2011
I hear the chicken hotel is not expensive, just chicken feed, as my old pappy used to say.
Actually it is like a kennel, where you leave your chickens when you go away.
I am thinking that if we send our donations to Snowhook with a notation that we want it to go to the Chet the Dog amount, we will just see how much we get and sponsor at that level. We will just let AJ et al know that the money will be coming in from different places, I am sure they will be happy to take some money off our paws.
1:08 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio, up there at 10:37, it sounds like you have a plan. Go For It!!
Thanks for the link about Elizabeth Taylor and dogs and for remembering her, Spence. She will be missed.
1:08 pm on March 24th, 2011
Siber-H: it’s on their blog. http://snowhookkennel.blogspot.com
I think we should explain to AJ and all, that we’d like to do this as a group and how would they like to set it up. Mentioning that some will be checks, other’s paypal, other’s by sled. I think we should have a Chet Flag! If that’s okay with Chet!
Explain that it could be lurkers and plunderers donating all together at different times.
Doc visits:
My knee is doing great. Slow in returning to normal since I was not able to use it because of pain since last July. The Doc says I don’t need to see him again, continue with the PT and no marathons. For him, that was a joke.
Zoë liked the new doc. They are going to be monitoring this very closely. She should start feeling better in a week or two. When she feels back to normal, the doctor will start reducing the steroid amount. This is an autoimmune disorder.
I am leaving again. Going to acupuncture, have needles put in and then sleep right on the table! Jesse is staying so I don’t feel under pressure to get home.
1:09 pm on March 24th, 2011
Mr. Husky, I promise that Facebook will not attack you or steal your toys or anything.
1:09 pm on March 24th, 2011
Whoops, forgot to say that on the Snowhook blog there is a contact email.
1:13 pm on March 24th, 2011
A smile on high came in an email for me today. Thought I’d share it.

1:25 pm on March 24th, 2011
To answer your question Rio, I think Macy’s suggestion of separate donations to Snowhook with a request to keep track of donations from the Chet blog is a good one.
There is a lot of monkey business to set up a separate account for something like this, and the bookkeeping could be a challenge. I don’t think it would be worth the effort for a one time donation.
1:27 pm on March 24th, 2011
Thanks Melanie for the info and that is good news about your knee.
We all plan on Zoe feeling better soon.
Miss Macy, my mom is slowly going to break down and let me sign on with facebook. I explained to her that it is becoming necessary to my lifestyle. Are you sure it won’t steal my toys?
1:43 pm on March 24th, 2011
SH: On Facebook you can regulate who sees what. You can even use the secure address. (It’s https rather than http….I don’t understand it; I just know when using it I have to give permission for things other than “friends” to see my account.)
Love the photo Melanie and the good news.
I’m off to school.
1:46 pm on March 24th, 2011
Siber-H: there is a place on your account on Facebook that allows you to control your privacy. Ours is set for the highest.
1:51 pm on March 24th, 2011
Mr. Tibbs!… I think you are right about all the monkey business….snort!… Soon, one day after my nap, I will contact them and ask them what’s what regarding this donation business….heh!
2:35 pm on March 24th, 2011
Melanie, Glad you and Zoe are feeling better and are the mend.
We agree, that sending individual donations will be better than trying to set up an account.
3:02 pm on March 24th, 2011
We are in on the Snowhook donation. Hope Whitey gets to run again next year. SiberH, how many years do good dogs get to run before retiring to let a younger dog run?
Staff, we were wondering why you were spending the summer in the city. My mom and dad both had time taking care of aging parents. It can be very stressful, but it is amazing what you learn about them as people and a couple vs just parents. Never forget the day Mom’s dad told her he had proposed to another woman before he met Mom’s mom.
That entire generation is gone now. Such a strange feeling to not have a parent anymore.
4:07 pm on March 24th, 2011
Shall we set a goal of sponsoring a dog? It’s $500, which is a lot, but doable if everyone pitches in a little. Of course, we would love to sponsor Whitey-Lance but I’m sure he is already taken. Maybe one of the others? Rebecca could reccommend a Chet like dog, I’m sure! I agree that we should just send checks and ask them to keep track of the donations for us. It would be fun to wear a tee shirt or sweatshirt during the 2012 race, wouldn’t it?
I read somewhere that the calendars are $50, but I’m not sure where.
4:09 pm on March 24th, 2011
And Rio, perhaps you can be our spokesperson?
4:14 pm on March 24th, 2011
Oohhh, I almost forgot to tell you. I went in for my physical on Saturday and the vet called us with my heart worm test results.
I tested positive. Mom is in shock! This has never happened to us before. There are two treatments. One is a series of shots, which costs $1100. The other is a combination of antibiotics and heartworm pills and is pretty effective. We’ll try that and if mom says if I am still postitive in a few months, then we will do the shots. Mom thinks she wasn’t completely on schedule for the preventative pills and she feels really bad.
4:54 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wölfie, those pills work 99% of the time.
You are 1 out of 100. You are special. Hope all goes well with the plan.
5:05 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wolfie, mom knows a vet whose dog got heartworm while taking the preventative meds. Heartworm can happen even if the meds are given faithfully on schedule. Tell your mom not to feel bad. She is a good mom.
Sometimes the dogs that Husky Rescue take in have to be treated for heartworm. I had heartworm when they took me in and was treated for it.
5:18 pm on March 24th, 2011
Gus&BooBear, There have been dogs that are 9 years old that have been the lead dogs for winning Iditarod and Yukon Quest teams. A 7 year old dog won the Golden Harness award in the Yukon Quest this year for leading his team and another team through a storm and up and over a mountain and safely into a checkpoint.
Gus&BooBear again, My mom’s parents are also gone, but she did a lot of the caregiving before they passed. Anyway, she agrees with what you said, “It is such a strange feeling not to have a parent anymore”, but she knows it is just the natural progression of life. Lee Child said something in one of his books about how we end up orphans if we all live long enough.
5:52 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wolfie!… I’ll try to get in touch with Snowhook, but today I’ve been awfully busy (yaawwnnn!)… snort! …So it might have to wait for another day. We’ve got all year to donate someone else’s cash for us…heh!
Worms!…. I hope you can recover from all those worms…gah!
6:13 pm on March 24th, 2011
I hope the meds work Wolfie.
I think it would be fun if we could sponsor a dog from Snowhook also.
7:11 pm on March 24th, 2011
Weird stuff going on in the chat room today……testing………
7:26 pm on March 24th, 2011
You see – the heart of the Volfie is so big, so gentle even the bad vorms vant to be there. But vill be ok. Many doggies get the vorm, and zap – the medicine does the vork, and no more vormies. But Volfie vill still haf the big heart! Just like you mom – she should not feel the guilt – she is taking care of things ok.
7:35 pm on March 24th, 2011
Stover!… My friend came home tired and hoping to relax by watching a new episode of The Event before we attempt another walk….grunt!… But On Demand is not showing anything new yet…sniff! … So she went to Justified and there are no new eps there either….grumble! ….Then she went to Lights Out the boxing show, and it went from episode 8 to 10 missing 9….growl! …This is the quality of our cable system…grump!
Natasha!…heh!
7:39 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio: I just checked On Demand and Justified has episodes three through six; The Event has two through fourteen.
7:45 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wolfie,
How are you feeling guy? Belle had heartworms and she seemed depressed, but maybe that was because Dad made her stay in her room all the time so she would not get all poodled up. She it tip-top now though. Our heartworm pills have a guarantee that if you get the worms while you are on the medication they will pay for the treatment. Hang in there, Belle sends a big lick.
7:46 pm on March 24th, 2011
Hey, y’all! Mom just had a great day! She was on the desk at the library and the door opened so she looked up to greet the patron and it was my girl! Unfortunately, she was on her way from spring break in Myrtle Beach back to Clemson, so Dad didn’t get to see her, but Mom got to wish her a big Happy Birthday. Today my girl is 25! Today’s Mom’s grandmother’s 97th birthday. Mom won’t get to see Mimi, but she was happy to see my girl! The only thing is that since it was a surprise, Mom didn’t have any presents for her. She’ll be coming back for a wedding week after next, so the plan is to celebrate then. That’s also when Mom and Dad will finally get to meet her “intended.” Is that what you call a serious boyfriend when they’re not quite officialy engaged yet? (But the “M” word has come up!)
8:12 pm on March 24th, 2011
Thank you everyone for your kind words! I feel tip top, except that now I can’t be running around.
Cyber H – did you have the shots or the pills?
8:24 pm on March 24th, 2011
Das Boot!…. Someone here finally broke down and called Comcast and after quite a while she got a real person on the line and told her what was happening, or NOT happening….snort!… So our TV has been Re-Booted and we can’t go out to On Demand for about 45 minutes from now…snuff!….The tech person says we should have the new signal and the new shows after this. If not she should simply call them back…grump!…Here’s hoping it works because it is too windy to walk, thank goodness…heh!
8:29 pm on March 24th, 2011
Stover!….Thanks for your input about the shows you can see and we cannot…snort!…That tech person started to tell her that “some shows do have an expiration date and…blah blah blah”….snort!….Then my friend replied and told the smarty pants tech person that someone she knew was actually seeing shows that she did not have….grump!… That’s when the Re-Boot solution came about. So thanks for arming her with some facts for the argument…heh!…Damned Comcast…sniff!
8:30 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio: What kind of TV reception does your friend’s mother have? Will that improve when you move?
8:35 pm on March 24th, 2011
SiberH!… Regarding Facebookie and you getting an account out there….snort!… If I were you I would wait till Molly is back and ask her what she thinks….sniff!…She has had some major trouble and you know what a geek she is…chorkel!…I’m just saying.
40 Minutes!…I’ve got 40 minutes to kill!…snort! … Someone talk to me!!!….heh!
Kirby!….Her mother has Comcast too, but she is getting ripped off right now…snort!…So when we get over there we will straighten that out as much as possible…grunt!…Comcast is a Rip-off no matter how you look at it. There are levels of Rip-Off though, and her mom is getting scraped. …wheeze!
8:36 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio: I hope it works. Let us know.
Kirby: Happy birthdays to both “girls!”
8:44 pm on March 24th, 2011
Kirby!….Did you send your girl that box of children’s books you were talking about way back when?…snort!…Was that for her birthday or for Graduation?…sniff!… I can’t remember now. I must be getting another year older…grump!
8:46 pm on March 24th, 2011
Kirby T: I always called my guys’ intendeds their “Significant Other” or SO.
Tell your girl and mom Happy Birthday!
It appears LizF is having some trouble connecting.
I’m going to bed. I am weary. Acupuncture (as Wöökie knows) was a big help.
Tomorrow is a do nothing day. YEA!!!!
TTFN
8:49 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wolfie, I don’t know which treatment I had. Mom didn’t know me when that happened, so she can’t remember for me. I was like you, though, no symptoms, but the heartworm test was positive.
Mom will try to find out which treatment they are using for the Huskies that come to Husky Rescue with heartworm. I am guessing that they try the antibiotics and heartworm pills first because of the cost. Husky Rescue will raise the adoption fee for one of their dogs that has been treated for heartworm, but that only helps with the cost a little bit.
8:51 pm on March 24th, 2011
Wolfie, Take it easy, and you will be good as new after those pills. Your mom will take good care of you, so just listen to what she says.
Night Melanie. Sleep well.
8:56 pm on March 24th, 2011
Siber-H! You mentioned the video of AJ holding up Whitey-Lance at the finish – is there a link to it?
9:02 pm on March 24th, 2011
Nuthing!…. Gee, I wish I had a do-nothing day…snort!… I have all kinds of stuff I do around here all day long….snuffle!… I see her off in the morning and then I go back to bed for awhile. Later I get up and check Chet’s Blog to see what is going on for the day…heh!… Then I have to find that treat she hides for me everyday…sneeze!…If I can’t find it and I’m pissed off I go over behind the big plant …sniff!…Then there’s the blog again and news about the Rockies to catch up on…heh! …I’m busy, busy, busy all day long…snort!
9:04 pm on March 24th, 2011
Very good advice, Rio, about waiting till Molly comes back to think about Facebook. I will wait. I do not want or need my own Facebook page. I just want to look at a few, like Snowhooks, from time to time.
9:05 pm on March 24th, 2011
Bear!…heh!snort!heh!…You are kidding, right?….snort!…SiberH putting up a link…chorkel!…That will be the day…heh!…His name is a little deceiving to say the least, but he does have his extraordinary qualities that we all love anyways…snort!
9:16 pm on March 24th, 2011
Good night all.
9:18 pm on March 24th, 2011
SpiritDog, You have to be an Iditarod Insider to see those videos. That means they want your money and you have to subscribe. Mom buys me a subscription every year.
I don’t think there is anyway to just “borrow” one of their videos. I bet Iditarod has them locked down tight.
Does Snowhook have any videos up on their Facebook page? I know that Mike Ellis, who ran the team of Siberians in the Yukon Quest, has good video up on his website.
While we are on this subject, the Yukon Quest’s videos are free on their website but we have to pay to see the Iditarod’s videos.
9:25 pm on March 24th, 2011
I have read the blog but now the Legacy System replacement is here so I have to go offline. The Legacy system had blown 4 capacitors or transistors or something and had to go over the rainbow bridge for computers. Dawson will be very happy to hear that Dad has entered the 21st century
Hopefully I will BBL. It all depends.
9:27 pm on March 24th, 2011
SiberH!…So what’s yer point?….snort!… Is it just as expensive to put on the Yukon Quest as it is the Iditarod?…grunt!…Is the Iditarod taking money it should not take from fans and spectators?…sniff! ….What’s your point of view?
9:29 pm on March 24th, 2011
Staff!…Good luck setting up the new system!…woooo!… Your dad will never be the same after this update…heh!…Don’t let Alice help, for gawd’s sake!…wheeze!
9:29 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio, you are cracking me up, but Bear hasn’t been around long enough to know the sad history of me trying to post pictures on this blog, or do the avatar, or put up a link…I’m a low-tech Husky.
9:38 pm on March 24th, 2011
Grump!….Well, after an HOUR of waiting for the Re-Boot of the TV….snarl!…Everything is exactly the same as it was before the Re-Boot…grump!…So she unplugged the damn thing altogether and will plug it in soon…sniff!…After that it’s another call to Freakin’ Comcast…snort!….We are almost ready to just cancel everything except there’s baseball season coming up and dammit….sniff!…we can’t miss that….snorkel! sob!sob!sob!
9:48 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio, The Iditarod costs so much more to put on than the Yukon Quest does. I do not mind giving them mom’s money once a year so I can have a fun two weeks and follow the race. I don’t think they are ripping people off. They have many, many more videos on their website than the Quest does and the Iditarod gives you live streaming video of the start and finish. Neither race charges the spectator anything. We appreciate being able to follow both the Iditarod and the Quest on the internet.
9:55 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio, it may take several calls to Comcast, but I am sure they will get it fixed. They are afraid of (whispering) satellite tv.
I hope Staff makes it back to us okay.
10:01 pm on March 24th, 2011
Give!… We give up…sniff!…Even the Comcast website is behind on episodes for this Area…grunt! grapple!.wheeze!….This town is backwards in so many ways…snort! …Even our cable is behind the times. We will go read for a month and then maybe something new will be on. Maybe by that time we will not care and get rid of the whole damned thing…growl!…Wait! Baseball starts next Friday for us here…snort!… That will be good timing….heh!
10:17 pm on March 24th, 2011
Good night. We are going to watch a little of the Arizona/Duke game then go to bed. We are not big basketball fans, but Barb’s bro is at Duke so we have to cheer for them.
Hope Staff gets her computer back and Comcast gets straightened out for Rio.
Sweet dreams, everyone.
10:26 pm on March 24th, 2011
Grump!…She left the book we are reading at the busy-place…snort!…So we searched around and found an old episode of Dick Cavette interviewing Alfred Hitchcock…heh!…This is kind of interesting, although Alfred is not very interesting at all. We never thought he was, but his movies are classics. Terribly talented people are sometimes rather boring for the most part.…snorkel!
10:44 pm on March 24th, 2011
Yippee!
The legacy system has finally gasped it’s last breath. It took long enough. It took an hour just to turn it on and then as soon as you navigated to where you wanted to be, it would seize up and make you start over. I will not miss that dinosaur.
There is such a wealth of good reading on the snowhooks kennel blog under the blue highlighted words “Meet the Team” on the right hand side of the blog. And if you scroll all the way to the bottom of that first page, you can see the blog archives from 2007 when they ran their first races. Cool.
Wolfie: Sounds like a few of our dogs and moms have experience with heartworm and have come through it with no lasting ill effects. You take it easy and tell your mum to take it easy on herself as well.
Melanie: Enjoyed the high flying smile. You have a doctor with a sense of humor?
10:59 pm on March 24th, 2011
Hitchcock! …. I will have to eat my previous words…barf!…With the intelligent coaxing of Dick Cavett, Hitchcock did finally come out of his guarded shell and started talking and then revealed things about how he made his movies before the days of computers (which he had no concept of at all) …yeep!…This is truly classic stuff which we are enjoying….woo!heh!
11:01 pm on March 24th, 2011
nighty night everyone!
We are reading and falling asleep soon.
11:06 pm on March 24th, 2011
Me too.
Getting sleepy. Good night all.
11:26 pm on March 24th, 2011
Remember Rio, my little spugnik – you may not alvays see me, but I am alvays here – especially to vish you goodnight, and sveet dreams for baseball.
11:34 pm on March 24th, 2011
Hitchcock!…We are still watching the interview with the man …heh!… He is an amazing person and his paws are huge…sniff!…Now, I know that our beloved authors paws are huge too…snort!…This makes me wonder if there is a link or connection with having very large paws and being cutting edge creative and terribly talented….gruffle!…We here think there is a scientific connection…gruff!
11:46 pm on March 24th, 2011
Rio: Sorry I didn’t answer you earlier, but Mom turned the computer off for awhile. We haven’t given my girl the box of books yet. That’s for graduation, which is ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN THIS YEAR. YIPPEE! When she was visiting Mom this afternoon she said graduation is May 13 and she has put her paperwork in for it. Seven years of college, and finally a graduation!!! Dad wants my boy to go through graduation, too. His school didn’t have a winter graduation (when he acutally finished school), so Dad thinks he should go through the spring ceremony. My boy isn’t too keen on the idea, though.
12:00 am on March 25th, 2011
Kirby!…That is good news all around!….snort!…Ceremony or not, your boy is doing great!…heh!
Night!…All. We finished the interview with Hitchcock. What a treat that was!…heh!…So sleep tight and think about Snowhooks Kennels and what you can do over this next coming yeat to help those great guys out….gruff!
12:00 am on March 25th, 2011
