RIP Cpl. Nathan Cirillo

The Canadian soldier killed in the terrorist attack in Ottawa yesterday. Here’s something from an article about him:

“An animal lover, Cirillo cared for multiple dogs and had recently rescued an abandoned puppy and nursed him back to health.”

The buddies are back home and catching up on yesterday’s blog.

Bless Cpl. Cirillo for all of his kindness. How sad to lose such a good young person.

I grew up with a black cat named Inky. Not very original. His father was named Smokey. When my mother would call me, she would first say, “Smokey, Inky, err… Linda!”

Good morning all. A rainy morning in Wisconsin.

How sad to lose a young person like that for no reason, other than someone’s insanity. Tragic.

Good morning all. It’s off to the office for Barb. Boss Guy is traveling down to the Ozarks today for a 4-day golf outing. Should be a quiet day, so there will be some lurking going on.

Will be sending off a check today to Rebecca -$8.00 for the bootie fund and $10.00 for the pretzels.

My the Creator bless and keep Cpl. Cirillo.

    Stepping off.

How sad for that young man and for the animals he was caring for. I agree with you, Wose. That is NOT religion, it’s insanity.

Mom is still waiting for her calendar. Hopefully, today!

Mom had her flu shot and had no problems at all.

Mom had a very traumatic evening yesterday. Remember, the story about the deer with the fencing around his neck. Mom called the SPCA and they said there wasn’t anything they could do but gave her another number to call if she sees him again. (Can Mom find that number now? Of course not.) Monday night, Mom was bringing in the trash can from the street and the noise startled a deer in the easement. Mom looked over and there he was bounding off–still with the fencing around his neck.

Last night, when she got home, he was laying down by the back porch with the fencing still around his neck and it covered his back. Mom kept talking to him and slowly approaching. Right when she got close enough to reach out, he jumped up and moved out into the yard. He stood there for a long time and Mom kept talking to him and slowly approaching. Then he bounded off into the woods. Well, Mom being Mom, got a flashlight and followed him. She found him right away and he let her approach and get a grip on the fencing. She was hoping with her twisting and holding the wire, he would back out of it. Who knew deer don’t have a reverse gear? Instead he lunged toward her, startling her and she let go of the fencing. He didn’t go very far and fell down so she approached him again. This time she was able to get another grip on it, but when she moved it around a little bit, he freaked again, jumped up and went a little farther and fell again. This fencing is big (about 3×4 feet) and it was tripping him. Mom left to get wire cutters, but when she came back she didn’t see him. She was worried that he was going to hurt himself. Hopefully, tonight he will still be around and Mom has better luck freeing him. Y’all think good thoughts for the deer, ok?

BooBear – your mom is a very good, and BRAVE person. Can she get a friend to come hang around with her tonight to see if two people might be able to help that deer?

Of course the situation is Canada makes us weep for the insanity of mankind, and the invention of guns.

It’s cold and rainy here. Thinking of a nice, warming dinner for tonight. By the way, Gramp is going in for some minor foot surgery tomorrow morning. Yes, we know – last time he went in for “minor” surgery, he was in the hospital for two weeks. But this is just to get a toe straightened out, so we aren’t too worried.

Only down side is that he cant walk on it for a week, crutches for 3 weeks, and no driving for months.

    Oh, yippee

BooBear, I love your mama. I will be thinking good thoughts for that deer.
Regarding religion, evil people have been co-opting religion since the beginning of time. Some prime examples include the Nazis (“Christians”), the KKK (“Christians”), Crusaders (“Christians”). Even Buddhists have used terrorism, and also Zionists, Irish Catholics, etc. etc. etc. i don’t see any of this as a fault of any one religion, but as the misuse of religion for purposes of power.

BooBear, Your mom could consider calling the media.

During the Balloon Fiesta there was a dead cow in the Rio Grande.
A woman who walks her dogs along the river in that spot called every agency she could think of to get the cow removed. She was told that nothing could be done because it wasn’t their job to haul the cow out of the river. Then, the woman called the media and suddenly everyone wanted to be of assistance. The cow was quickly removed from the river.

    3:28 pm on October 23rd, 2014

Boobear, I think callling the media and getting them involved in a special interest story might be the way to go.

I think the only reason the deer is letting you get that close is that it might be getting weak. If you call the police they are more likely to shoot it than use a trank gun, IMO.

See if you can maybe get some help from a wildlife rehab group, but please be careful. Your safety is the most important thing.

This person involved in the shooting was a recent Islam convert, so he was more likely a political extremist. They are not all terrorists.

Hey all! The Canadian news is tragic and saddening. We’ve been busy here today sleeping while the peeps went to brunch with the adopted son and partner then they took Darah to her first behavior class. To say she was a litle stubborn would be like saying water is a little wet! She is now sleeping off the effects of sitting, coming and walking around the pet store on a leash. Poor exhausted baby.

Wose, do you have any takers yet on Grizz’s adoption?

We had a situation a few years ago with wild turkeys in the center of town. Traffic was being stopped as the three birds ran in and out of traffic. The hunt club said once they escaped they were no longer their problem. The wildlife dept. didn’t want them because they said they were hybrid birds. Cops wouldn’t help. Finally I called the newspaper and the next day the turkeys were gone. Not sure if they were rescued or shot, but at least they were no longer in traffic.

Pay no attention to those Wrotten Kats. They aren’t living up to their kattiness anyway.

It seems we have a mouse or two in the house. No big surprise. But Gramp said the Kats were hunting last night. Unsuccessfully, but they were still prowling around this morning.

Then, they both got up on the dining room table to sunbathe, and lo and behold, the mouse came out from hiding. And WHO caught the mouse? Tupper, that’s who. Jumped on it like bear on a honeycomb. And who sat up on the table, aloof and watching the whole thing, maintaining their perfect “meatloaf” posture, and squeezing their eyes? The Wrotten Kats, that’s who.

My car is still in the shop, waiting for a little part to be shipped up here. Sigh. Saturday, they said.
    The good news:
Me and my partner won all 6 games of cribbage and the man who lives in this house was on the opposing team and was left in the stink hole on the last game. Whooohooo! That was fun!

Rio: The stink hole is the last hole. One more point and you win. But if you don’t get one more point and the opposing team gets to the finish, you are stuck in the stink hole.
The man who lives in this house has been consistently beating me at crib. Ever since I dealt him a “28” hand about a month ago. Today was payback.
