Ridiculously Early Sneak Peek
At Book 6 in the Chet and Bernie series – the one that maybe you can give a title to! Here, from Chapter One:
We rounded a curve and spotted some dudes in orange jump suits picking up trash by the road side, a sheriff’s van idling behind them, yellow light flashing. Bernie eased off the gas. We’d put a lot of perps in orange jump suits and you never knew when you’d bump into an old pal.
“Hey,” Bernie said. “Isn’t that Frenchie Boutette?”
The little round dude at the end, poking at a scrap of paper, missing, taking a short break? He glanced our way, recognized the car, easy to tell from how his eyebrows shot up. Yes, Frenchie for sure. We pulled over.
“Frenchie! How’s it going?”
Frenchie looked at Bernie, then at me, and backed away.
“Don’t be shy,” Bernie said. “We’re not going to bite you.”
“Think I’m fallin’ for that line again?” Frenchie said.
Welcome Maggie (first Halloween-themed pic this year).

This is great! A sneak peak.
10:37 am on October 12th, 2012
Sounds as though Chet got a little more than Frenchie’s pant leg.
Good morning all.
10:47 am on October 12th, 2012
Good Morning B and Masquers!
Sasha up top!
Greetings to All!
10:55 am on October 12th, 2012
Good morning everyone. Cold but beautiful day here in northern Illinois.
Maggie is going to the v e t a little later this morning. Since she gets a tad crazy over nail trims, she will be getting a little happy pill in about half an hour. Hope I can get tubby in the car!
11:24 am on October 12th, 2012
A cloudy Morning, but Good none the less.
Still no brilliant title ideas for the new book. Sigh.
Barb&Magpie: LOL
11:24 am on October 12th, 2012
Only 11 more months till #6 is published. Can’t wait!
Here is a picture of the grandkid’s guest room. Doing the stripes was a female dog!

11:26 am on October 12th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: Looks very cozy!
11:27 am on October 12th, 2012
Hi everyone –
Barb – we used to be bad about nail trims too, especiallly Gilly. The first time Mama tried to even touch her nails, Gilly literally shreiked like no dog we have ever heard before. She screamed and cried and trembled. And this was before a single nail was cut. Poor baby dog – something terrible must have happened to her before.
But we have a wonderful groomer and we love going to see her. She has worked with little Gil so well that now Gilly doesn’t have to be muzzled or even leashed to do her nails. Thank dog for that – nail day used to be as traumatic for Mama as for Gilly.
11:27 am on October 12th, 2012
And one more from another angle.

11:33 am on October 12th, 2012
Gilly: I, too, once had a very bad experience with the nail trimming. A stupid v*e*t once cut off too much nail which resulted cutting into the nerve ending. The nerve of that guy!
11:35 am on October 12th, 2012
Lovely Barb.
11:44 am on October 12th, 2012
A sneak peak! How cool is that! It won’t be too long before the book has a title.
Barb, Mom loves the color of the walls in that bedroom.
Mom has never had the nerve to ask the groomer and her husband just exactly how they get my nails trimmed. Mom trusts them so it is just one of those things mom doesn’t want to think about. I have tried telling mom they hit me over the head, but mom says I am full of you know what.
11:45 am on October 12th, 2012
Bear and T & G, Barb here. Maggie also had a bad experience which seems to have wrecked her for life. I didn’t want to risk hurting her the first time, and since her nails are all black it is hard to know where to cut. I took her in to the v*e*t who proceeded to loom over her and then cut 3 of the nails so short that they bleed profusely. I can play with her feet and nails and she has no problem, but when she sees the clippers she turns into Cujo.
11:46 am on October 12th, 2012
Barb&Magpie: Love the walls!
11:52 am on October 12th, 2012
Isn’t there some way of determining where the nerve ending is? Or am I making that up.
11:52 am on October 12th, 2012
We are very impressed with the horizontal stripe walls. Beautifully done, and in lovely colors.
Sweet Maggie turning into Cujo – wow. She must be as terrified as Gilly was. Poor baby. Bad v e t, bad, bad v e t! We hope you hit him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper!
12:00 pm on October 12th, 2012
Bear, In a light colored dog toenail one is suppose to be able to see the nerve ending. Mom has never been very good at that and some vets aren’t either.
Mom has known vet techs that are more skilled at the nail trim than vets.
12:02 pm on October 12th, 2012
Maybe not quite Cujo, but is does take a happy pill, 3 people and a muzzle to accompolish the task!
12:06 pm on October 12th, 2012
Sam meets Tyb.
It’s a bad hair day – pay no attention – the dogs look fine.

12:12 pm on October 12th, 2012
Hey! Thats my Aunt MollysMom! You all look great in that picture.
12:15 pm on October 12th, 2012
Good afternoon, all.
Maggie, your Halloween costume in FOC is so good, we can’t recognize you. And we love your guest bedroom. Can we stay there?
Mom once tried to trim Boris’ nails. Once. Now when we get them trimmed, and it doesn’t happen often, the groomer does it.
12:18 pm on October 12th, 2012
Mollypop’s mom — thanks for the photo, and you look terrific too.
I’m no fan of getting nails clipped either. I went to a groomer for a while, but let’s say me and the groomer did not get along too well and so that came to an end after a while, which means baths and nails are done at mi casa. It’s not that I have ever been hurt per se, just that I’m less than keen about it, much to mom’s frustration. Not Cujo-like though, although the one time I did turn into Cujo was went it appeared as though we were going to have a home invasion break-in at night several months ago, and mom thought my Cujo impression was the best she had ever seen.
And remember tonight — Go Nationals!!!
Wookie
12:20 pm on October 12th, 2012
Oh, and before I forget, there was a great article in today’s Washington Post about Jack Junior, the mascot in training for Georgetown University (for those who don’t remember, Jack is always a bulldog).

I had to look up “cujo.”
Nice picture MPM.
12:29 pm on October 12th, 2012
We wonder if OFA will post all the title suggestions that were sent in. We bet some of you had some great ones!
MP’sM – we probably missed something while we were holding our coughing, sneezing, frog-throated Mama down under the quilt. Is Princess Sam now living with you?
12:33 pm on October 12th, 2012
The book, Cujo, is not one of Stephen King’s best.
That is a good photo of all three of you, Mollypop’s Mom.
12:33 pm on October 12th, 2012
Aunt Mollys Mom, Sammie and Tyb: You all look great in that photo!
We do not see bad hair anywhere.
Maggie a Halloween Dog in FOC? I will have to check this out!
Wookie: Go Nationals!!!
B: You make us smile.
12:37 pm on October 12th, 2012
Halloween Dog…the Howlers were joshing us.
12:38 pm on October 12th, 2012
There are two “do or die” baseball games today.
GO NATIONALS!
GO YANKEES!
12:47 pm on October 12th, 2012
B&M: The grandkids room looks lovely. Comfy and inviting!
MollyPop’s Mom: Youse guys look great! I take it the meeting was successful? Is this Sammie’s first day at work?
12:50 pm on October 12th, 2012
And…..
Go Giants!
(We’re just practicing for the next series.)
1:05 pm on October 12th, 2012
Sam is now a therapy dog and yesterday was her first day of work. She’s allowed in my “no pets” place (Molly was grandfathered in) as a working dog. It wouldn’t be fair to a dog to live here full-time since I’m out a lot in places where a dog couldn’t go – swimming pools and chair lifts for a start. So until I leave here and move back to Amherst, Sam can be my emotional support therapy dog a couple days a week. Her special vest and tag will arrive next week. I’ll post pictures.
1:12 pm on October 12th, 2012
MPM, we are very happy to know that you will have 4-legged companionship a couple days a week.
1:21 pm on October 12th, 2012
The 3 blondes in that picture look great. No bad hair day there. MPM, when do you plan to move?
BTW, we are back from the dreaded appointment and it went fairly well. Maggie is taking a nap after all the excitement.
Bee, You haven’t heard of Stephen Kings’s Cujo!!!! Never read the book but the movie was mighty scary. It actually made the name Cujo a part of everyday conversational English, and that was probably over 20 years ago.
1:25 pm on October 12th, 2012
I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by Stephen King. I saw a movie that was written by him. In one scene a group of boys were in swampy water and leeches went where leeches shouldn’t be.
1:27 pm on October 12th, 2012
I don’t think “cujo” has been in any everyday conversation in English that I have been a part of.
1:31 pm on October 12th, 2012
Bee, Who do you conversate with? Snicker.
1:33 pm on October 12th, 2012
Cujo in the book was a dog that had rabies. It isn’t that he was a mean dog. He simply behaved like a canine with end stage rabies.
Mollypop’s Mom, We are very glad that Sam will be staying with you some. Sam will enjoy herself. You both will.
1:39 pm on October 12th, 2012
I apparently speak with people who don’t talk about “cujo.”
Rabies are awful. I once took in a dog who had been abandoned…outdoors in winter. He had rabies and we couldn’t save him. I called him Victor, short for RCA Victor, because he looked just like that dog.
1:44 pm on October 12th, 2012
Sammie: We are very proud of you.
Rose & Siber: Go Nationals! Go Yankees! (it is important to have all our ducks (teams) in a row.
1:57 pm on October 12th, 2012
I’ll post a picture of RCA Victor after I recharge the batteries in my camera.
2:22 pm on October 12th, 2012
Speaking of cameras…our digital camera has not been accepting regular batteries even though the battery checker indicates a full charge…anyone know why?
2:24 pm on October 12th, 2012
Masquers: My digital camera has it’s own battery with a cord that I attach to the battery and then to an electrical outlet.
2:40 pm on October 12th, 2012
MP’sM – We are very happy for both of you that you get to hang out together. Tupper had her own vest too, so she can go anywhere Mama goes.
2:42 pm on October 12th, 2012
B: What kind of camera do you have? Mine is a Kodak EasyShare 340.
2:43 pm on October 12th, 2012
Why can’t Sam go on the chair lift? We would pay good money to see that little fluffball barreling down the mountainside, goggles in place, popping over moguls.
But where oh where would you get ski poles that short?
giggle
2:49 pm on October 12th, 2012
HerbKats: Heh, heh…You do have vivid imaginations.
3:10 pm on October 12th, 2012
Sammie has already gone skiing. We saw her in that Subaru commercial.
3:10 pm on October 12th, 2012
Masquers: My camera is a Nikon D40.
3:31 pm on October 12th, 2012
Bee, You have a serious camera! We have an EasyShare C743.
We know that Cujo was not mean, just sick, but it was still scary (and probably not very realistic).
Barb can’t stop spending money, now she wants a refrigerator. Oh well, life is short, better enjoy it while she can.
3:44 pm on October 12th, 2012
This is RCA Victor.
3:48 pm on October 12th, 2012
Hi All! Whoever said blondes were dumb? You can see the massive sparks of intelligence in all those eyes!
Zoe and I had to go to the lawyer today. My sister met us there. All is well. Just one piece of paper that needs to drawn up and notarized. Whe then had lunch at a Thai restaurant. I had Pai Thai (?) with shrimp and chicken. Zoe had something that she can’t eat at home. Fried eggplant curry. Martha had avacodo curry. We were all very happy.
3:51 pm on October 12th, 2012
Barb: Photography is serious business. (I’d put a smiley face here if I knew how.)
3:53 pm on October 12th, 2012
Cujo: Barely finished the book. Did NOT watch movie!
3:55 pm on October 12th, 2012
Thank you, B.
3:57 pm on October 12th, 2012
My Dear Niece Kat – You were listening when I told your Mom that I was thinking of moving back to Amherst because I needed a dog. Now with Sammie CuddlePup here, I can stay a few years more.
I love it here in Ellicottville. Every season is amazing. The air is clean, which is a requirement for my poor lungs, and, of course, wonderful winter. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be skiing though.
4:02 pm on October 12th, 2012
We here liked Cujo, but then we love all SK.
B: RCA Victor looks like a sweetie and so are you for taking him in out of the cold.
4:22 pm on October 12th, 2012
He was a sweet dog and very gentle.
4:37 pm on October 12th, 2012
Stover, Thanks for the picture of RCA Victor. That is so sad that you gave a homeless dog a forever home and then discovered he had rabies.
4:41 pm on October 12th, 2012
For all you Stephen King fans:
I was just playing around on Amazon. King has several new short stories available for Kindles..
5:13 pm on October 12th, 2012
Siber-H: Thank you for the tip.
5:41 pm on October 12th, 2012
Victor did look like the RCA dog. He was cute, maybe a Fox Terrier?
6:19 pm on October 12th, 2012
Yes, I think the vet said he was a Fox Terrier.
6:32 pm on October 12th, 2012
Where is Wose?
It is the bottom of the Fifth and the score is Yankees 1 Baltimore 0
6:35 pm on October 12th, 2012
Wose was here on the blog this morning.
6:44 pm on October 12th, 2012
Bee, RCA Victor looks adorable. It wasgood that you tried to help him.
We are supposed to have a frost tonight, so Mom cut off all tomatoes: red, orange, and green. Tomorrow, she will fry up some of those green ones. Yumm.
6:46 pm on October 12th, 2012
I love Vintage B photos!
MPM: Your hair looks great in the photo. If it makes you feel better I’m having a hair-by-Serta sort of a day. It’s been known to happen when I take nighttime cold medicine and have to be to the office early the next morning.
Every so often a friend from work brings in her dog, Holly for a very specific purpose— nail trimming. The person had a bad experience trying to cut Holly’s nails long ago that it is traumafic for both. Enter the woman with several dozen dogs. On theses occasions the three of us head into the nice, big bathroom at work that has space and easy to clean floors. Holly is coaxed in with the promise of cookies and I bring up the rear, clippers in hand. A lot of soft words, gentle pets (for both Holly and her mum), snip, clip and it is done. Today, I did get Holly; she bled a bit but then reassured me tha all was forgiven with a head bump and demand of a belly rub. She, the dog not the person, alternates employee of the month with Tenzing.
7:05 pm on October 12th, 2012
Nail stories!
Don’t have any . . Wow . . Glad we don’t.
Love the pics.
7:16 pm on October 12th, 2012
B: When Nana looked closer at the couch in your photo she got deja vu. She says it looks exactly like one she had way back when. What are the chances?
7:23 pm on October 12th, 2012
I think my four-legged has had rabies several times. Or, was it several babies? I forget.
7:48 pm on October 12th, 2012
Bear: It was a beautiful couch at the time–three cushioned seat. I wouldn’t want it now!
8:01 pm on October 12th, 2012
Hey youse guys, I’m here!
THE YANKEES WIN! WHOOOOHOOOOOOO!
I think I’m going to have a heart attack…..

8:11 pm on October 12th, 2012
MollyPop’sMom: I’m glad Sammie will be taking good care of you. I bet Sammie’s glad because she’ll get her soft boiled egg and kibble.
8:14 pm on October 12th, 2012
SiberH, your handsome self is up top!
When the Yankee games are not on the YES channel, I lose track of the games. I worked from home today, and had no idea this game was an afternoon game. I did see the 7th through 9th innings though. There was a lot of cushion chewing going on.
8:14 pm on October 12th, 2012
Actually the pants were not velvet but cord…..don’t remember how to spell it….cords.
8:15 pm on October 12th, 2012

I think I had that couch too. It was gold. Mine was a heavy hide a bed. whew I am glad it is gone.
8:38 pm on October 12th, 2012
Staff: Ours was not a hide-a-bed, but we know of that which you speak. Those things weighed a ton!
Wose: I’m happy you were able to watch your favorite team, if only for a couple of innings.
8:39 pm on October 12th, 2012
Wose – Sammie and I are so happy about the Yankees! Yes!
8:41 pm on October 12th, 2012

5:59 pm on October 13th, 2012
We Mets fans don’t even say “Wait til next year.” We say, “wait for some other lifetime.”
