Rescue!
In the L.A. River, usually bone dry. The fact that it isn’t right now might have surprised this member of the nation within.

Good morning, everyone! Lucky dog, who’s a good dog (wirh a bad 2 legger)? Can you believe that today is the last day of January? Tomorrow is Egg Day 🙂 and Chetspeak 🙂 and stupid bowl Sunday 🙁 Hey, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, amigo.
Have a sagacious Saturday.
8:57 am on January 31st, 2015
Good morning! Happy Saturday, and Knik 200 Day!!! Woo Hooo!!! We get to watch The Giant’s tracker moving on down the trail. GO SNOWHOOK!!
Mom is done work already. She awoke in the wee hours and worked her tail off (that must have happened a long time ago because we never even saw her tail).
That poor dog! And why hasn’t his human shown up by now? Huh?
8:57 am on January 31st, 2015
Good morning HOH and everyone.
9:01 am on January 31st, 2015
O’H and B’sB are twins! How often does that happen?
9:01 am on January 31st, 2015
Great rescue job! Hope the owner comes forward. They may be afraid of having to pay the rescue costs. Since the dog was on a leash, sounds like he was being walked at the time. Does he look like a Corgi-Chihuahua mix to you? Not to us.
Very quiet here this morning. We have time to go out and get supplies before the you know what hits the fan.
For any of you Parenthood fans, here is a great site for a detailed synopsis of the final show. There is so much in the finale that I found this article helpful, and it was also very witty. DO NOT READ IT UNTIL YOU HAVE WATCHED THE FINALE!!

HOH, Twice already this morning!
9:21 am on January 31st, 2015
Wowser!
9:29 am on January 31st, 2015
9:34 am on January 31st, 2015
That story brought a lump to the throat. It occurs to me that the owner may have fallen in the river as well. Is it a large river?
We’re on a winter storm watch with five to eight inches of snow expected tonight. And it’s going to be 73 in LA….
Good morning all.
9:38 am on January 31st, 2015
Bee, I didn’t think of that! I hope that is not the case, but it could explain why no one has come forward yet.
9:44 am on January 31st, 2015
OMD! Bee could be right! Oh we pray it is not so.
9:48 am on January 31st, 2015
HRH B, check your SDD.
It is possible that the person could have been that unfortunate since Californians have no clue what that kind of water power can do. Several people drown eacj year when it rains. If it hapened, the body could be 10 miles down the coast by now.
10:05 am on January 31st, 2015
Just made a really good breakfast or lunch sandwich. I had cooked some pinto beans from dry beans for a pot of chili. I took about 1/2 cup and lightly mashed them and spread on a slice of toasted multi-grain toast. Topped with a slice of cheese and avocado. Tomato or pico de gallo would be good additions. Diane, being a vegetarian, might like this.
10:13 am on January 31st, 2015
HOH: I’ve responded.
There is another news clip on this story from NBC. Google LA River and you’ll get a link.
By the way, that river looks fierce.
10:18 am on January 31st, 2015
HRH B, Yes, when it rains (and untill all the runoff comes off the mountains). The reat of the time it is a concrete ditch with a 4 inch deep, 6 foot wide trickle in the middle.
B&M&L, Just saw where y’all could get 10 ” of that white stuff by Monday. Batten down, stay warm.
10:24 am on January 31st, 2015
Rio: Thank you for the link to the Knik 200.
11:17 am on January 31st, 2015
Bless the dog’s rescuers. I hope the owner shows up but you never know.
It is a great day to follow a sled dog race. Rio, Thanks for the link. I’m up for this.
We have over 5 inches of snow now! It is still snowing off and on.
We do know somebody in southern Arizona…Chet and Bernie.
11:53 am on January 31st, 2015
Touching video. Paws crossed his human is okay and steps forward soon.
Siber: Of course! Chet and Bernie. I’m sure they would be up for hosting a Superbowl party and (hopefully) not partial to either team.
As you say, today is the Knit 200 and we are ready.
Go Snowhook!!
11:57 am on January 31st, 2015
Gah. That would be Knik 200, not knit.
Here’s that link again: http://knik200sleddograce.com/tracking/
12:04 pm on January 31st, 2015
Awww!
I am glad that little doggie got rescued.
Knik 200. I finally figured out the link was on yesterday’s post. Thanks Rio!
Sun shining on the 1 inch of new snow, brightening up the landscape. I’m happy SiberH is getting more snow than I am getting today.
12:09 pm on January 31st, 2015
Siber – who’s a lucky dog?
We are not clicking on the story link. We trust all of you to tell us what the story is about and if it has a happy ending or not. Sorry, but we are such wusses that if it is a sad or traumatizing story, it will haunt us for weeks, and give us nightmares. But we are glad the dog was rescued.
We have been doing errands this morning, and are going back out later to do more. Woo hoooo! Love driving the Chili Pepper!
12:17 pm on January 31st, 2015
Thanks for the Parenthood link Barb. Mom had to sob all over again, but at least she did not howl this time. She is feeling very lonely and has a bit of a tummy ache, so she is not going anywhere. She is wondering if 11:30 is too early for a nap. Not for us dawgs it isn’t.
12:19 pm on January 31st, 2015
Tupper’s Maw: that link is a good one. Good, caring humans.
12:22 pm on January 31st, 2015
Macy’s Maw, this hug is for you. And Kat is adding kisses.
Xxxoooxxxoooxxxooo
12:30 pm on January 31st, 2015
It was wicked cold here this morning. Temp was 9 but wind chill was -10. That wind howled all night long. We hate when that happens.
Now it is up to 20 and the sun is shining. It is still windy, but not nearly so bad. The horses are out for the first time all week. Boy, did they go crazy!!
Pop is once again plowing the driveway, since the wind caused the snow to pile back on.
We are supposed to get 6-12 inches here Sunday night and Monday.
12:33 pm on January 31st, 2015
Min Pin: You can add ours to the Kat kisses coming your mom’s way.
Feel better, ML!
12:38 pm on January 31st, 2015
T & G’s Mama, We feel the same way, but this one is safe to watch. I hope you do watch it, because I want to see if you see any Corgi in that dog.
Macy’s Mama, Glad you liked it. There was so much in that one hour that it was a good refresher. I still think I might watch it a second time On Demand. There was so much material that I found myself saying, wait a minute, did I really see this or that?
Chili Pepper is a perfect name. Daughter Shannon has a bright red car she calls “The Tomata”.
12:45 pm on January 31st, 2015
No one…that we know of…has ever survived the Raging Waters of the LA River. And every year someone tries.
Thanks to the heroics of the Fire Department, this was one Lucky Pup.
P.S, Tupper&Gilly, Nana is a wuss and even she says, the Link is OK.
We Love the Name Chili Pepper for your Cool New Car!
1:00 pm on January 31st, 2015
How did I miss seeing the Hot Mama’s Hot Car’s Hot Name??? That is a helluva great name.
Barb, the other article gave the breed as Shiba Inu.
1:07 pm on January 31st, 2015
MTMP: I can honestly testify that eleven-ish ‘o clock is not too early for a nap, for dogs or humans.
Barb, M&L: Thanks for that link explaining the final Parenthood episode. I will watch it later today after I do my errands.
Tupper’s Mama: I want a ride in the Chili Pepper!
1:38 pm on January 31st, 2015
T&G’s Mama, “Chili Pepper, heh, heh, heh”
1:42 pm on January 31st, 2015
Golinka, check your SDD.
2:07 pm on January 31st, 2015
Mama Meash, Thanks, that is what breed the dog appeared to be.
2:18 pm on January 31st, 2015
Mom has had a couple of bad days. She caught a bad cold (1st time she’s been under the weather physically since Dad passed) and feeling sorry for herself. Then this morning, that dog tried to play with one of the senior cats. She had him running and crying straight to mom. Heh! Heh!
So mom took that dog for a long walk to help him feel better. Well, they have been resurfacing the roads in our subdivision and mom missed a step and went down hard!!! How embarrassing! And it HURT!! Luckily, nothing broke but she is pretty stiff right now.
So far this weekend has not been banner.
2:30 pm on January 31st, 2015
Boobear, Your poor mom and poor Howie! Both of you rest up.
2:37 pm on January 31st, 2015
BooBear – give your mom some gentle head bumps from us. And tell Howie that all Kats are Wrotten – some more than others, but they simply cannot be trusted by members of the Nation Within. There is something dastardly about kitty sense of humor.
Mama is boiling a chicken with all kind of seasonings and good stuff to make a chicken soup. We are standing around the stove drooling. Think maybe they will put some of that wonderful stock over our pitiful dry kibble tonight?
2:39 pm on January 31st, 2015
HOH – thanks for the SDD. Wow – who would think that would be dangerous. But we are scared that the person who was on the end of that leash hasn’t turned up – doesn’t bode well, does it?
2:41 pm on January 31st, 2015
BooBear, tell your mom that Lucy Lou is on the way to administer dainty licks. Darah Thea is on the way to perform as a LARGE fluffy pillow. Baby Blondie will keep the kitties occupados while you rest. WE know just how you feel, mom has done dumb trips before and frequently in front of an audience. Just thank dog mostly her pride is wounded and not much else. Let us know if we need to send Pookey for her to have long, 2 sided conversations with…one with the blue eye and one with the brown eye.
2:44 pm on January 31st, 2015
T&G, the firefellows think “Lucky” broke loose and ran. ?Quien sabe? Hope it will all work out for 2 and leggers. Mom used to hike 6 blocks and lay in the “riverbed” in the summer and around Turkey Day she’d drag home tumbleweeds to make snowmen out of. Sure glad her parental units were tollerant 🙂
2:45 pm on January 31st, 2015
BooBear: Please give your mom gentle hugs. Howie knows her heart was in the right place trying to make them both feel better. He might have to be a lap dog today.
HOH: Thanks, from us too, for the SDD. We are very worried about the 2-legged who was at the end of that leash too.
2:47 pm on January 31st, 2015
Today another Plunderer said Goodbye to the Bravermans, our adopted family of six years.
There was Howling (MTMP) and Crying (Barb,Magpie,Lucy) and Smiling and Sobbing (Nana) and (to Rio who has yet to watch) another box of Kleenex gone.
Barb, Thank You so much for mentioning the Google Search. It is the one last link we have to this Endearing Family.
I think we will wait a while before watching it.
2:58 pm on January 31st, 2015
BooBear’s Mom: A steaming hot bath or shower may help with the stiffness.
3:01 pm on January 31st, 2015
Out here in Southwest Washington it is socks and Birkenstocks weather! Some of can’t give up delights of the past no matter how unfashionable. So here I go to the library hoping to snag a copy of Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. He is a quirkey fellow but someone chose this fo0r my book group. Has anyone here read it? It is non-fiction but some say it is cherry picked theory!
Here’s to better days for those who need a quilt…..and maybe you miught want to consider a pair of Birkenstocks!
3:01 pm on January 31st, 2015
Putting so many friends under the quilt tonight with our Herd of Hospital Staff.
3:10 pm on January 31st, 2015
We are very fortunate because the Quilt Grows in Proportion to the size of its occupants.
ALR: Never Without our Birkenstocks…and socks, of course.
No, we have not read the book of which you speak. At this moment Nana is doing a search of Amazon for Jan Karon’s latest Mitford Tale.
3:24 pm on January 31st, 2015
Always Birkie weather. Difference is socks or not.Alaska is another story.
3:41 pm on January 31st, 2015
You are all nuts! Our little piggies freeze from October to May! Mmm? DDD, want some cold piggies on your back?
4:02 pm on January 31st, 2015
Swamp!…I did not know that Willow had a Swamp…heh!heh!…I have set-up the Tracker to watch the Snowhook team blow all the other teams into the water….chuffle!…
Report!…Field Agent Belle Starr has reported that AJ pulled Bib #8…snort!….Eight is Great!…Wooooo!
4:12 pm on January 31st, 2015
ALR: I have not read “The Outliers” but I’ve read Malcolm Gladwell’s other books and find them very interesting.
Rio: I agree, bib #8 is great!
4:12 pm on January 31st, 2015
Report!…Bellie reports that the purpose of this race for Snowhook is to get the team used to being around other teams…chuffle!…She also reports it is a 12 guy team, but she has not given me a list of the team members…sniff!
4:15 pm on January 31st, 2015
A dozen Snowhook dawgs! Yeah! Bib 8 IS great! We have our tracker ready to go…shortly.
4:17 pm on January 31st, 2015
Oh lucky us, we just earned a puckery pug peck (say that 3 times rapidly!) Slurp!
4:18 pm on January 31st, 2015
We agree! 8 is a very good number! Another 45 minutes and they’re off!
4:31 pm on January 31st, 2015
This will be a good race for the Snowhook doggies to get their racing legs in gear while dealing with other teams. Whoo Hoo.
BooBear: falls are the worst. I am so glad nothing is broken. I had a bad fall last year and was stiff for a long time plus had a big old bruise. Pamper yourself.
4:51 pm on January 31st, 2015
BSD, there is nothing to watch, it is just a long written piece with a detailed account of the happenings. And for a whimsical touch she assigns a cry factor to each scene-from 1 to 5 tears.
4:52 pm on January 31st, 2015
Sneeze and ouch!
BooBear: A bad fall on top of a bad cold? You have my sympathies and hope for a quick recovery.
Rio: On your mark, get set…
5:06 pm on January 31st, 2015
OFF!…snort!…The race is on!…chuffel!…Exciting! YEEEEP!
5:35 pm on January 31st, 2015
BooBear, Please tell your mom that I can be there in a moment’s notice, if she needs a good nurse to help her aches and pains. Is the cold all better at least?
Tonight’s dinner is black-eyed peas with bulgur and spinach (and onions).
5:39 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson, Outliers….the first part, before even the Part One, as Gladwell explains what he wants to do with this book…..I’m hooked! Seems like it will be a perfect book for a curious person.
5:40 pm on January 31st, 2015
Howie, I feel your pain, Dude. Last evening, I was standing in the kitchen, close to T.C.’s beside-the-woodstove perch, just minding my own beeswax. Out of nowhere, the little cutie swatted me,and got her nail stuck in my face!!!!! I was a Good Boy, and stood perfectly still until my mom and pop got her claw out. Then they pitied me, and gave me hugs and kisses and pats, and they then gave T.C. the same number of pats!!!! wth!
5:51 pm on January 31st, 2015
ALR: I started chapter one of “The Outliers” and Maxwell mentions hockey and baseball and how the vast majority of the best players are born in the same 3 months as the other players. Very interesting.
Now I have to check the Knik 200.
Eggplant is baking prior to being made into Baba Ganoush. I found the recipe at the same website as the roasted red pepper Hummus recipe I love. I am anticipating a tasty treat.
http://www.inspiredtaste.net/24825/baba-ganoush-recipe-roasted-eggplant-dip/
5:54 pm on January 31st, 2015
Fun!….I am having fun watching the Knik 200!…snort!snort!….My friend popped in the 3rd disc of All Creatures Great and Small. So we are watching both!….Woooo!
5:54 pm on January 31st, 2015
Number 8, some guy from Willow, AK is almost around Willow Lake 🙂
6:52 pm on January 31st, 2015
Checkpoint!…It looks like there is only one checkpoint in this race….snort!…I hope someone sponsored it!…heh!heh!
6:53 pm on January 31st, 2015
It looks like AJ moved up two spots. Is that right?
6:54 pm on January 31st, 2015
We aren’t watching the football thingy tomorrow. We will probably watch the Puppybowl though. Poor Melanie’s got time under the quilt still, they got 5 pounds of fluid off her in dialysis today, and she has breathing treatments a lot, still in the hospital, trying to wait for navigating of red tape and insurance and other mysteries.
We saw little puppies today, so y’all can meet little Hildegard.

6:57 pm on January 31st, 2015
Hildegard!! Is that the pup you are getting, Buddy?
Hugs to Melanie and you and Leno.
7:00 pm on January 31st, 2015
Puppies! and more puppies! what could be better?
Thanks for all the dainty licks, etc for mom. She decided that 11:30 was a fine time for a nap and dozed off and on most of the afternoon. Now she is just waiting for a respectable time to go to be for reals.
T&G, hot new ride! Did you trade something for it? You know we only read every other word most times.
7:04 pm on January 31st, 2015
Hildegard is adorable!
7:05 pm on January 31st, 2015
Hildegard!…Has pointy toes!…snorkel!
7:06 pm on January 31st, 2015
Buddy and Leno: Little Hildegard (love the name) has great big paws!
OHowler’s: I have to zoom in closer to see…
Baba ganoush: I must’ve done something wrong…not so good. Tastes okay but slimy texture. I think I overcooked the eggplant. She says it tastes better the next day so I think I will leave it for tomorrow.
http://cs.ecust.edu.cn/snwei/studypc/jsjdl/data/OutliersTheStoryOfSuccess.pdf
7:06 pm on January 31st, 2015
Team!….I see right now that our Team is in 6th place!…snort!
7:13 pm on January 31st, 2015
Speedy!
AJ and Team Snowhook are going about 10.7 mph, now and as an average for this race so far. That’s 10% of the race done already!
7:14 pm on January 31st, 2015
I just got word from Mama Luna. She said that $25 matching money is burning a hole in Bellie’s sparkles. If any of youse would like to use some matching funds toward Luna and Bellie, email me at snowhookdogs@gmail.com. Quick! Before Bellie spends it all!
If we match each $25, our favorite girls will be fully sponsored! Does this mean Bellie can go to Nome? If you were The Giant, what would you say? Heh!
7:15 pm on January 31st, 2015
Looks like: Snowhook is currently holding its own and moving up a bit,
Hildegard is going to GROW up to be a beauty,
Many foods need to marry their flavors/textures for overnight.
Buddy, your beloved Melanie and you and your girl are in our thoughts and pawarayers…not to mention Leno and Hildegard (sounds like a comic strip).
7:17 pm on January 31st, 2015
(deep voiced narrator) And now, the continuing adventures of Leno and Hildegard, that beloved pair of pups and Buddy, their human companion!
7:19 pm on January 31st, 2015
Those sounded like some good vegetarians options for dinner. Sorry the Baba Ganoush didn’t turn out so well. Hopefully better tomorrow. Does the man who lives in the house like on-meat meals or is he a meat and potato type of man?
We are having beef stew and a homemade baking powder biscuit. Sort of seemed like a night for something hearty.
7:24 pm on January 31st, 2015
B&M&L, our mom has trained the men (and women) who reside in her house to eat what is put on the table without complaint, or they will eat it for several more days…ask the s son (heh, heh, heh).
7:27 pm on January 31st, 2015
Burgers!…Cheese burgers here tonight!…chuffle!…Both me and Beau love us some burgers…heheh!…With a bowl of beer and some fries, what could be better?….burp!…Course Beau only drinks water, I will drink the beer here….chorkel!
7:28 pm on January 31st, 2015
Buddy&Leno: Hildegard will have a Good Teacher. Bear Hugs to all of youse and Especially to Melanie.
Dawson: Sorry to Hear the Baba Ganoush didn’t quite turn out the way you expected. Maybe manana.
Go Team Snowhook!!!
7:36 pm on January 31st, 2015
The man who lives in this house is a carnivore and an onionarian, plain and simple. He likes to eat his meat with some raw onion. I would be surprised if he sampled the baba g. He is also not a fan of Mexican food, which I love.
7:37 pm on January 31st, 2015
Wow!…Snowhook is up in front – but remember starting time correction that will take place at the Checkpoint, which I think is back at the starting point…wheeze!…Not sure about this. Maybe someone else has read up on the rules…heh!heh!…I did not read the rules and have no intention of doing so tonight…chorkel!
7:38 pm on January 31st, 2015
I am very upset. That Damn Pixie who stole my sparkles left me to get the team ready for the race. She was working at the top of the world this week. Clearly, I have to be in charge of everything around here. The Giant also refused to let me bedazzle the dog sled. He says that being covered in glitter won’t make the team go faster. I disagree.
Tenzing has the Quilt stocked with great snacks for BooBear’s maw, ML and Leno’s Melanie.
7:41 pm on January 31st, 2015
Clarify!…When I say UP IN FRONT, I mean in the top ten front…heh!heh!…I must say I do love seeing our team in that position…snorkel!…I know it might be an illusion and this race is meant for other things than Winning-It, but I am a competative Pug and like winning…grunt!
7:41 pm on January 31st, 2015
This race looks like a 50 mile route that is done 4 times (we are sure someone will correct us if we are wrong). Currently it looks like SNOWHOOK and aj are in 6th place.
7:41 pm on January 31st, 2015
My tracking device also shows AJ and the team leading the pack. If any of youse know that not to be true we don’t want to hear about it.
7:44 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!….Field Agent Belle Starr has come back from the start of the race to report…snort!…What say you Bellie? How did the team look when they left the starting line?…wheeze!
7:46 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson, the DDD thinks he is both a carnivore and an onionarian but he knows not to complain when mom gets on a vegetarian casserole binge (like Russian Macarroni or vegetable stroganoff). If he is having withdrawls, she invites him to cook on the outside grill. If only the man who lives in your house played cribbage, oh, what fun we could have 🙂
7:47 pm on January 31st, 2015
The scoop from the starting line is that the team looked drab with nary a sparkle in sight. It was embarrassing. Can you imagine how much better they would look if they had glitter on their harnesses. I would even let the Giant borrow some of my ribbons and things to make his hair prettier. We all know that ribbons make the musher.
7:49 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson, could it be that you were just born at the wrong time of the year to be successful at Baba ganoush? It is either that or it may require 10,000 hours of practice! ;^)
7:56 pm on January 31st, 2015
Report!…Belle Starr! Can you report seeing sparkle in the teams eyes?…snort! …Or a blaze of fire in the Giants eyes perhaps?…huffle!
8:00 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!!!! Egg-citing news!!! I have it on the QT that both you and your Mama Luna are sponsored!!!! In full!!!! What does this mean? Will you get to go to Nome with the team? If so, my Mama Meash can fill in as the Play-by-Play and I will do Color. Over and out.
Oh, and Mama M. Gave me permission to say that this was a Team Effort, courtesy of the Plunderers who love you and your Mama and your VBFF Wose.
Kat reporting from just south of The Great North. Over and out.
8:10 pm on January 31st, 2015
I’m pretty sure that that’s a pic of the puppy I’m getting. (It was the last one on my phone, anyway, right after I asked Jessy to take one of my pup…) Ooh…I love the “adventures of” idea. I think Melanie isn’t a huge fan of her name (I got to pick, I like it!) But I think it has some real advantages. Chief among these is that it’s unusual, and people will maybe not call my dog so much. Also, I don’t know anyone named Hildegard at the moment. And it’s just a darn cool name 🙂
8:15 pm on January 31st, 2015
Rio: I can report that there was a sparkle in the team’s eyes and a blaze of fire in the Giant’s eyes. If I such a blaze in Ole Doc’s eyes, I would say it was gas and not the excitement of competition. The team was ready to go, go, go!
Kat: Team effort! My four-legged and I are sponsored in full! I’m twirling…I’m twirling…I’m…SPLORT!
8:17 pm on January 31st, 2015
If I don’t get a Hildegard of my very own, I’m going to be in a very bad mood.
8:30 pm on January 31st, 2015
Catching up –
Macy – yes, something was traded in. A slow-poke, underpowered, undistinguished, unassuming and boring SUV. Now, we get to ride in the Red Hot Chili Pepper – zzzzzzzooooommmmm!
Hildy looks like a love-moosh. Leno is going to fall in love.
GOOOO SNOWHOOK! Sending up a fast prayer for a fast race, with the Giant leading the way!
Word is out that we are getting another big snowstorm tomorrow night. We are praying that it is only as big as the last one with 3 inches.
8:32 pm on January 31st, 2015
Hildegard: What Kind of Dog are you? You look like a Little Cub with pointy toes.
8:37 pm on January 31st, 2015
Hildegard can’t make it to the keyboard yet, but she’s a German Shepherd. Or as Alena says, a police officer dog.
8:48 pm on January 31st, 2015
ALR: Possibly the best baba ganoush preparers are born in October. I think I cooked the eggplant way too long. I will try a few more times before I admit that I was born at the wrong time of year to be an excellent preparer of baba ganoush!
I am rubbish at tracking but I see AJ in third place!
Go Snowhook!

HIldegard is going to be a beautiful lady!
8:51 pm on January 31st, 2015
Report!…I can truthfully report seeing Bellie Starr sporting at the drop of a nickel or less…grunt!…So being funded must have been a very big sport indeed…heh!heh!…I just hope it was not on ole Doc’s love seat…sniff!
8:54 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson!…You must realize that the leaders are now going back down the trail the way they came to the starting checkpoint….snort!…This will get very hard to track unless the website has an updated leader board which will tell us who is in what place…sniff!
8:54 pm on January 31st, 2015
Okay, 3rd place is probably not right. Heh! Confused. Splort!
8:56 pm on January 31st, 2015
Team Snowhook was the fourth team into the checkpoint. There is a leaderboard tab on the tracking map that you can refresh to see who is at what race mile. This is Bellie Button reporting from Doc’s loveseat.
8:58 pm on January 31st, 2015
There is a leaderboard that shows the miles each team has traveled but I don’t seem the teams listed in a first place to last place order.
9:00 pm on January 31st, 2015
Button!….Bellie Button!…HA! I swear i almost laughed out loud over that one…heh!heh!
9:01 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson: That leaderboard will be a bit of a moving target as the team takes breaks or passes other teams. That Damn Pixie saw the Giant show up as the fourth team at the checkpoint. On the race website, you can select the Knik 200 race option and it will show the race standings. This is manually updated, so it will be a little lagging.
9:02 pm on January 31st, 2015
Thanks Bellie!
Sorry Doc.
9:04 pm on January 31st, 2015
Mathmatics!…Yes, we will have to do mathmatics to figure out who is in the lead and who is not…snort!….As Bellie Button just reported Snowhook is in 4th place reaching the checkpoint for the first time….wheeze!…I do believe they will have to reach this checkpoint one more time and then go back to the start to reach the finish…heh!heh!
9:06 pm on January 31st, 2015
WE are exhausted trying to keep up with this. Perhaps a nap and if Rockey visits again tonight we will check the stats again then and in the a.m. here.
Go Snowhook. Nighty night
9:09 pm on January 31st, 2015
Back and forth! Commander Rio is correct! The race trail will go back and forth from the starting line to the checkpoint a couple of times. This is Bellie Bell reporting from the top of Ole Doc.
9:10 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bell!…Oh no. Your new name is Bellie Button…heh!heh!…snort!
9:12 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie Button! That is what that Damn Pixie calls me when we play.
9:20 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!…Field Agent Bellie Button….snort!….I am making your new name tag right now as I tippity-tap-type!…grunt!…It is now official…sneeze!
9:24 pm on January 31st, 2015
Don’t forget to add the sparkles to my name tag.
9:27 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!…Field Agents do not get Sparkel…sniff!…Now why are you reporting from Doc’s love seat? Why aren’t you, as a Field Agent, out on the trail reporting live?…grunt!
9:27 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie Button on top of Old Doc: Snort! Can that last?
9:36 pm on January 31st, 2015
Doc!…Quick! Shake her off and get yer love seat back!…grunt!…She needs to pack her little knapsack and hit the trail to do live reporting for us here at home safe and warm, with snacks close to paw…sniff!
9:40 pm on January 31st, 2015
Dawson: Can it last? Doc doesn’t move much, so my hope is yes. How else can I make sure he doesn’t float away.
Rio: I will be out in the field later tonight with that Damn Pixie. We will go to the layover and see the team. I plan to add glitter to the team when the Giant is not looking.
9:40 pm on January 31st, 2015
We here are going to dream wonderful dreams of magnificent dogs flying over the frozen northland. In our dreams they may be bedazzled.
Thanks for the snacks Tenzing. One real disadvantage of not cooking is not having anything in the house to eat when you are not feeling up to snuff. Pita chips and string cheese, yummy .
Stay toasty my friends.

Hildegard is darling. We here are hoping your Melanie is feeling better soon, and that she learns to love the name of your new family member.
9:43 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!..Button!..snort!heh!….Remember to take yer little notebook with you to write important facts down such as where when who and why innit. Then remember to bring it home with you so you can write up a true Field Agent Report for all of us here…snuffle!
9:48 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie Button, it has a nice ring to it.
9:48 pm on January 31st, 2015
Belle Button: What is the time the teams will spend at the Deshka Landing layover?
9:52 pm on January 31st, 2015
Masquers: It is a 6 hour layover at Deshka.
10:03 pm on January 31st, 2015
Commander: I have my sparkly, pink backpack ready to go to the layover. I’ve packed my Mission Notes and Brilliant Ideas notebook, silver glitter, pink sparkles, pretty ribbons for the Giant’s hair, and several Slim Jims.
10:08 pm on January 31st, 2015
Thank you, Bellë.
10:17 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellie!…Pack a camera!…heh!…Ribbons on the Giant! Even I want to see that!..chorkel!…And DO NOT eat all the Slim Jims on the ride over to the checkpoint..grunt!
10:20 pm on January 31st, 2015
Kamera! I knew I was forgetting something.
Rio: Do mean to say I have to share the Slim Jims? That doesn’t seem right.
Masquers: It is a six hour layover, plus the Giant’s 44 minute differential.
10:33 pm on January 31st, 2015
That’s right…the differential…almost forgot about that.
10:42 pm on January 31st, 2015
Masquers: I am in a long night of getting intel for reporting my field notes. Do you think I can convince the Damn Pixie to take notes while I sleep in the new-to-us truck?
10:55 pm on January 31st, 2015
Agents!…Real Agents do not sleep on the job!…grunt!
11:02 pm on January 31st, 2015
Surely a dog nap is allowed?
11:29 pm on January 31st, 2015
Rio – vhy you are giving Agent Bellie Button such time of hardness. “Agents do not vear sparkles” and “Agents are not sleeping on job”.
Is phooey!
Natasha vears many sparklings. And vhile on long duties, is true ve sleep. Is hard to be glamorous spy vith baggage under dark, smoldering eyes.
Agent Bellie – just remember lessons vith Natasha from last Iditarod and you vill be fine. But you might vant start out vith lower stiletto heels than ve vear. You are still young to be vamp.
11:38 pm on January 31st, 2015
Natasha: Thank you for your encouragement of words for Belle Starr. Her vampness is a long way off if I have anything to do with it.
11:52 pm on January 31st, 2015
Bellë! Wake up! They are almost there.
4:04 am on February 1st, 2015
We made it to the checkpoint shortly before the team arrived. They arrived in fourth place and looked good coming into the checkpoint despite their lack of sparkle and ribbons. The Giant set to tending to the dogs in short order while we watched. Handlers or sparkly Bellie Starrs are not allowed to assist their musher with the chores. AJ put down straw, took of booties, rubbed muscles, checked out each and every paw, and had the vet check the team while heating up water for the dogs. Once he was finished tending to the dogs, he had a sloppy joe for dinner. He also drank almost all of that Damn Pixie’s hot chocolate. She insisted he sleep. She left him at the checkpoint to get some sleep and she will head back in the wee hours to wake him and pick up dropped dogs.
I can report that the Giant remains sparkle and ribbon free at present. His hair is all the way up there and I am all the way down here. Gah!
Here is a photo taken shortly after the team arrived at the layover.

This is Bellie Button reporting from the top of Ole Doc.

Yaawn streetchhhhhh.
Huh? 4th place? Yahoo!!!!
7:24 am on February 1st, 2015
Kat: We got home from the checkpoint not too long ago. That Damn Pixie and I are watching and waiting for the team to leave the layover. Florence and Wilson were dropped. I am overseeing their care now that they are back at the kennel.
8:17 am on February 1st, 2015
Thanks, Nellie. You pulled an all-nighter!!! My momma says you are related to the famous Brenda Star. Is that right, or is she pulling my leg?
8:17 am on February 1st, 2015
Bellie!!! #^#damn paws!
8:19 am on February 1st, 2015
Hey!!! The team is on the move! 6th place!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
8:25 am on February 1st, 2015
Kat: At the layover, the Giant said the trail was fast, but he wants to slow the team down. Does this make sense to you? That Damn Pixie seems to understand, but I don’t think she is to be trusted in such important matters like race strategy and my sparkles.
8:31 am on February 1st, 2015
Bellie, don’t listen to the Pixie. Like most moms, she will always err on the side of caution. We here want those dogs to go fast fast fast!!! (Like me!)
Who are the lead dogs, btw?
