Red Sox

“Monday morning!” says Spence. “I’m really looking forward to the week.”

“Grump,” says Admin.

“You look a little tired.”

“At least they won, according to the paper,” Spence says. “I went to bed early. Feel good! Think I’ll hit the gym.”

“Don’t let me keep you.”

Welcome Scout and Henry the Hound. Nick and Cubby – please retry.

Hi Rose and Howlers! We have steady rain here.

Instead of AbbieTheCat I think it should be AbbieTheSportscaster. According to my brother, the Detroit Tigers will be in the….play-offs??…in their division??…Whatever…..

Forgot: I won’t have time to donate anything to Snowhook by the end of October because I’ll be too busy with school. However, I will purchase some things.

Wolfie: I’d like to buy some promegranate jelly if you put it on the Snowhook blog….delish!

Rain? Is that where refreshing water comes down from the sky?

We had a cold snap yesterday; 82*. now we are back in the 90*s.

Things need to cool off just a little before I ship my toffee.

So I sent Franklin to deliver (The Pack thanks Wölfie for the blurring lessons) the cake. When he came back, I found the following picture in my email. . .

Hey everyone! We’re home from the beach. The last week was so cold and rainy, the folks finally just gave up and came home. Besides, Mama kept muttering (even in her sleep) about getting ready for the BIG art show on Columbus Day Weekend. She says she’s not ready – needs another month or so. But that is what she says about EVERY art show – she’s never happy with the amount of finished work she has, or its not good enough, or its not the right work for the crowd…yadda yadda…you get it – Mama is a worrywart.

Anyway, she says we can say a quick hello to everyone, but then we have to get going to the studio and get back to work. So…

Rebecca – HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and kisses to all the returning glacial gang, especially the puppies.

Rio – we will contribute to the Mercantile, but let us get through the art show first, ok? Then we will have a better idea of what we can offer. And your friend’s new project looks like it is well on the path to greatness.

Melanie – your cake was, as always, perfect.

Tyb – good to see you back in the conversation.

To everyone – we really enjoyed catching up with all of you on the blog. We miss being a part of it all, but Mama says that when she has clay up to her elbows, it just isn’t time to try to type on a keyboard. Since she does have to go back to Crazy Lady Land as of this week, she only has 7 more days to work in her studio before the show, and she says we can’t play on the computer too much. But we are thinking of all of you, and reading posts right before we go to bed at night.

Please keep thinking good thoughts for our Mama for getting ready for the show. This is the one that she had tried for years to get into – its rated the 3rd top art show in the country, and she is more than just a tad nervous. She promises to take pictures. If anyone is interested you can check out the show’s history etc:

Ditto the messages of Oley and Wolfie. Melanie is amazing with those cakes! Happy Birthday Rebecca!

We are excited for T & G’s mama. Will check out the art show in a bit.

Barb is getting ready for her trip to North Carolina end of this week. Will be fun to see that part of the family. Kelly has never been to their home or Duke U., so it will be great for her to see it all. Going to hit some good restaurants and watch college age nephew play soccer.

Icky, cold rainy day here in the midwest.

OleyHowlers: The weather did cooperate and give you lovely days for children and adults…and kids? The goats came to your reunion?!
Tupper&Gilly: Congratulations to your mum. Tell her she will wow the people who see her wonderful pieces. I love the feathers on the piece Rio found. (Thanks Rio.)
Happy Birthday Rebecca! Gee, too bad about your cake. My, those little Husky pups look good enough to eat!
Tyb: You are fantastic. Hugs and tummies to you from me.

Wolfie!….I just read your comment about jelly last night. I think any food-stuff that can be shipped safely can be put up for sale on the Mushers Christmas Mercantile Store….snort! … I think we all need to start thinking seriously about this last-chance effort to raise money for Snowhook. We want AJ the Giant and all the team to have the very best while they are on the Iditarod Trail!..gruff!….So put your crafty thinking caps on and come up with some gift ideas that you can donate for the cause. OR start saving your pennies so you can buy stuff from the store.….sniff! …October is coming around the corner very quickly!….wuffle!

AbbieTheKat!… Drat! I wish I could have stayed up with AbbieTheKat last night but someone had to go to bed because of the busy-place…grump!… One day when she gets fired or laid-off we will have all the time in the world to stay up late…heh!

    Happy Birthday, Rebecca! Woo! Woo!
Seems like good news all around today, from the BoSox to no rain in Oley to T&G’s mum getting ready for her really big shoooow (doing my best Ed Sullivan imitation). T&G, you need to check your P.O. Box now that you are back, because your cookbook should be there, and hopefully that is the package waiting for Dawson too.
Yesterday was a fun day here – went to the really big quilt show at Sulley Plantation out in Virginia near Dulles airport. It was supposed to be held earlier in September but got postponed when we had all the rain from the tropical storms. It is one of my favorite quilt shows, first of all because it is open to dogs (especially certified quilt testers like moi) and I always get adored by everyone who is there. Mom got some good stuff too, so all in all, it was a tip-top day.

Rio: Thank you for posting the bear fetish that our fabulous resident artist created. Also, the picture of your friend’s developing creation. We cannot wait to see the completed project!

Buddy & Howlers: Sounds like the reunion was a resounding success! Can you believe it? No rain! I just hope we didn’t inadvertently borrow a sunny day from the upcoming weekend. Your mom wants the best weather for her birthday celebration on the 29th and their anniversary too.

Mom went for a early celebration yesterday also. The wind was blowing so fiercely she felt like she was going to blow right off the highway. Today is calm, but gloomy and rainy. Maybe we can send some of the wet stuff down Wolfie’s way. Then he can forward it on to Macy and GBB.

I am pondering my item to be sold at the Mercantile Musher Store in October…..

Cookbooks…speaking of which…Barb & Magpie send us a final tally on our SDD. Looking forward to the arrival this week (hopefully)

Bear, Barb sent the package book rate, so it wasn’t very expensive. Barb still feels terrible about not catching that 4 day printing option, that would have been sooo much cheaper.

We loved the Reggie character, and liked the way the book ended for her, except that we thought Jackson would give her a big chunck of change. Did that ending with Tessa catch you by surprise?

Just went out to the wet garden and dug one of the last potatoes for baking tonight, to go with the steak on the grill.

Garden is pretty much done, just a couple of tomatoes left. Then of course, the root veggies are still good till we get a hard freeze. Beets have been delish! Still want to try a good leek soup recipe too.

Remember when we gave Lily the portable salad garden back in April for a B-day present? That was a Weiner! She goes out every day after school and checks it first thing. Has grown 3 or 4 herbs, lettuce, spinach, egg plant, cucumber, beans, garlic, shallots, onions and more. Next year she wants to fence an area and have a larger garden. They have tried before, but the deer eat everything, so fencing is the only option. Any thoughts on that issue?

Since I drove all over this week I decided to look at driving to Whitehorse, where I could catch a plane to Willow for the Iditarod. Almost 1000 KM one way, in the winter. I don’t think so. Carpola! I can’t believe that Rio, of all dogs, will get to experience the ceremonial start to the Iditarod and I, who have endured the seemingly endless winters in the North for nigh on 2 decades will be stuck at home reading about it. Sigh. What a bummer.

She is blushing and scuffing her toe in modesty over being called the “resident artist”, especially since she is in the exalted company of Liz, your friend, Wookie’s mom, etc. Many talented folks on this here blog.

And Macy – you little scamp….posting pics like that…
(As an explanation to the rest of you – a local town did a Bear Festival kind of like the Painted Ponies or the Chicago Cows. Lifesize fiberglass animals are awarded to artists who submit the best decorating ideas. Mama was selected to decorate a bear when she submitted the idea of creating a mosaic school sweater made of buttons, commemorating the founder of the town who started the first button factory in this country, and used the insuing wealth to benefit the town with schools, library, parks etc. Mama used thousands and thousands of blue and white buttons and enough super glue to make the local hardware store suspicious about her use. The bears were on display for the summer and then auctioned off to benefit the arts council. The school named for the town’s founder bought Mama’s Bear – his official name was “Bear with a Buttoned Down Education”

And now for the official business that we are online for: We got our mail today, including our beautiful cookbook. It is gorgeous – thank you SO much Wookie! And here are the rest of the ingredients to the dog biscuit recipe.

    12 cups of plain oats
    4 cups whole wheat flour
    8 eggs
    3/4 cup oil
    2/3 cup honey
    1/2 cup molasses
    2 cups milk
    1 large can pumpkin puree
    3 to 4 mashed bananas

Thanks again for all the good thoughts and support. And now – back to work. See ya all later.

Tyb: I love the pictures you have been posting. I agree with others about Blou’s light picture you posted yesterday—it gave me a lump in my throat especially as I have two of the nation that I love dearly who will likely cross the bridge soon. Thank you for sharing the photos.

Rio: I can’t wait to see more of your friend’s project. The tail feather is my favorite part so far.

AJ is taking me on a date tonight for my birthday!

T & G, Wow, had no idea that those were buttons! Super cool.

Thanks also for the ingredients. If you look at the page with the recipe (partial recipe) there is a big space on the left side of the page. That would be a good place to start the recipe and continue it on the right side.

TYB, You look great in the Jeep!

We are signing off, back in the morning. Sweet dreams.

Grump!… Nothing was on the MLB channel at 7:00 when I checked…snort!…Then we went upstairs to watch that stupid stupid tv show with her mother…grunt!….We suffered through one hour of typically horrible dialog and forced teenage angst. Now we are downstairs and we can watch the Rockies or the Cubs vs San Diego….grunt!…None of these teams will be in the post season….gruffle!

Tupper!… Has Stinky Mama been working all day long on her art objects?.,…snort!… What a great way to spend a whole day…snuffle!

Rio – Mama has indeed been working hard all day long. And she wants to know if its true that wrinkles on a Pug are called “Stinkles”….tee hee….
That way, both you and she can be Stinky together

I’m the one on this blog that can rightfully be called stinky.

It isn’t looking good for Boston. It is the ninth inning and they are behind 3 runs.
The Rays won their game with the Yankees.

Tyb, finally had a chance to go back and look at some of the posts from the past few days. We love the picture you posted of Blou walking into the light, leaving the frisbee behind. Brought tears and lumps here.

Oley Howlers: Thank you for the song. Each of our dogs has a song and it’s a pretty safe bet that that particular song is our girl’s song, but it is also one of my AJ songs; everytime I hear it, I think of him. My favorite line is: “It ain’t no big mystery—You can’t play it safe and still go down in history. So saddle (harness) up the horses (huskies) ’cause we’re headed for the hall of fame.”

Dawson: I hope you have a better Tuesday than you had a Monday. AJ and I have talked about sometime in the future, competing in the Yukon Quest which either starts or ends in Whitehorse, so maybe we can see you at the races then.

Rio: Jr. ran for the first time in harness yesterday. He ran next to his bud, Gomez, a seasoned sled dog. Rio was doing so well. They had a river crossing, and at the edge of the river there were some dead salmon. Rio Jr. decided what better place to roll around than on rotted salmon on a river bank. That is one stinky, but one happy dog.

My lady is trying on the insulated skirt AJ gave her for her birthday. She’ll wear throughout the winter, but especially when she waits for him in Nome. She’s holding it up to her and twirling, and twirling…makes me dizzy just to look at her.

Melanie, thanks for the cake it was delish, not to mention thoughtful of you. My lady thinks the world of the Plunderers and all the birthday wishes meant a lot to her.

I tell you what, that Franklin of your’s is one big dog, and he is welcome at the Kennel any time. He overshot his blur a bit and landed on top of Charlie’s house. Scared the poor laddie half out of his collar. I can’t prove it, but I think Charlie’s flip-flop ears stood up for the first time in his young life.

I told Franklin I would keep an eye on the cake until my lady woke up. Lefty and Pancho did their worst to get their paws on the cake. In the end, the only way I could keep it safe was to rest my head on top of the cake, and then my tongue may have wandered a bit and well, it was very thoughtful of you just the same.

Head bump to Franklin and the rest of the pack,
