Rare Opportunity (Missed)
Suzie? Where was Suzie? We all looked around – me, Bernie, Portia, and even Freddie and Trimmer, cuffed down on the floor. “If something’s happened to – ” Bernie began, but then we heard the back door open and Suzie came through the house, back to the front hall. Everybody turned to her.
“Sorry,” she said. “The dog who lives next door got out. I saw the old couple out in their yard, kind of frantic, so I rounded up the little critter. He was charging around crazily, like he doesn’t get out much.”
Iggy had been out? Out and on the loose? I went to the side window, and there was Iggy in his side window. Iggy was my pal. He never got out anymore, and now the one time he did, I’d missed him! He saw me and gave a little wag. I gave a little wag back. I wished I hadn’t missed him.
Spencer Quinn will be at Mystery on Main Street in Brattleboro VT for the Brattleboro Literary Festival Saturday Oct. 3 at 5:45 PM. As for Houston, Chicago and other places, too soon to know where they’ll be sending him when Thereby Hangs A Tail comes out.
