Random Amazon Review We Like
5.0 out of 5 stars Great dog/human adventure, August 13, 2014
Jamie Middleton on PAW AND ORDER:
This series is great on adventure but the best part of the series is how the author perfectly captures the canine behavior. Telling the story through Chet’s eyes puts you right in the middle of the canine mind. I listen to Chet and see my own dog’s behavior and curiosity. If they could talk, they’d sound just like Chet. I hope we will have Chet and Bernie to delight us in many more books!!!!
Welcome Darwin from Buckinghampshire.

Hello All and Happy Saturday.
I have a long day at the library today, so I’m checking in early.
9:09 am on August 16th, 2014
…oops, I forgot to ask for the latest on young Lester (LESTER??? Not how I think of a raptor–more like an older guy working in the mailroom for decades…)

I also wanted to ask if anyone here is old enough to remember the 60s.
…and if so, can you identify these young ladies?
9:10 am on August 16th, 2014
…hmm. Apparently I’m being moderated. Was it something I said? Two images uploaded on one post?
9:21 am on August 16th, 2014
Very good review.
Diane: You can only upload one image per comment.
Good morning all.
9:23 am on August 16th, 2014
B. Stover. Thanks–
Does anyone here remember the 60s?

9:24 am on August 16th, 2014
…and if so, can you identify these two young ladies (who by now are no longer young)?

9:25 am on August 16th, 2014
…AND is there any more recent news about young Lester (lester???)
10:20 am on August 16th, 2014
Diane: A Test?…So Early?
The young lady on the right looks very Familiar, the one on the left not at all.
Beau! Here’s hoping the Big Vet can come up with some answers for you today.
It’s Morning…but is it Good?
Wait just a dog darn minute…Of Course it is Good!
Shaking off any unpleasant thoughts immediately like water on my coat after the rain…just like my Amigo Chet would do. There…Feeling back to my old self.
Now…where’s my Breakfast…..
11:10 am on August 16th, 2014
Good morning and Happy Egg Day for us!
The ‘rents finally returned home last evening, and then some friends came over and we all hung out around the much-needed fire pit, while they shared Chesapeake stories. Our friends were much further south on that bay than Mom and Pop were, so they compared the two locations. Both sounded fun, except. For one thing: WE WEREN’T THERE!!!
It was 49 degrees here this morning. Did we fall asleep for many months? Last time. Mom checked her calendar, she told us it was August.
Diane, we have no recollection of the 60s. Sorry.
11:15 am on August 16th, 2014
Hello! What is missing in this photo? š

11:27 am on August 16th, 2014
Kat! I know, I know…it’s you, you, you!
12:19 pm on August 16th, 2014
Count-down!…To my friend somehow getting gimpy Beau in the Subaru and taking him to the Great Big Vets office…sniff!…I’m going to be hiding during this procedure. Not gonna fall for the “ride along for the fun of it” trick again…grunt!
12:42 pm on August 16th, 2014
Beau!!!! Hide!!!!
1:00 pm on August 16th, 2014
Y’ll are cracking us up! Ha ha ha
1:19 pm on August 16th, 2014
Today is my boy’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Zeus! How will I celebrate? I will be drinking a toast at Sly Fox Brewery later today. Heh heh!
1:48 pm on August 16th, 2014
Home!…Beau is home and my friend still has all her fingers. So I would call this a successful trip to the Vets. But it was quite eventful to say the least. The Big Doc got Beau up on the table and started feeling around on his back legs. Then he said, “I need to have him lay on his side.”…wheeze!…My friends eyes got big as she watched this great big guy trying to get Beau down on the table with no success….gasp!…”He’s stronger than he looks!”…Yes Beau is a baby bull…heh!heh!…After he finally had Beau wrangled down on the table the Big Doc said, “Can you hold his paw?” My friend thought of all the times Beau had bitten her and said, “No.”…snort!…She went out of the room and got the assistant to come and help…chorkel!…Well in that short time she was gone Beau had lost it and pooped and pissed all over the Big Doc’s table…gah!…Finally with three people holding Beau down the Big Doc got serious about examining him…whuffle!…”Appears to have twisted his knee. Just keep him on Rimadyl for awhile. Nothing is broke, strained or stuck in his paws. There is nothing seriously wrong with him.”….gurgle!…So there you have it. Beau is A-Okay. His dosage is going up by 50% though till his knee heals…sniff!…In the meantime no walks, no jumping and definitely no Kat-Watch..grunt!
1:56 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rio, let us know what the vet says about Beau.
Diane, Mom remembers the 60s but she doesn’t know who those two girls are. Mantle, Maris, and Koufax she would know.
The picture of the dog looks like one of my very best friends, Rudy.
Happy Birthday Zeus!!!
For over a week now there has been a hint of autumn in the air in the early morning. That does not happen here this time of year.
2:00 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rio, I am glad there is nothing seriously wrong with Beau, but it is going to be difficult to keep him from things like Kat-Watch and jumping. Mom says she knows from experience. (not me)
2:01 pm on August 16th, 2014
Yellow leaves falling. Fall is coming.
2:04 pm on August 16th, 2014
Belle Starr: nice to hear from you late last night. As a virtual treatie, this is for you

2:04 pm on August 16th, 2014
HOH: fall is here too. I thought Tennessee fall was in October
2:07 pm on August 16th, 2014
Siber, It seems like fall here, and way too early. Summer went by too fast, and we are not ready for cold weather and the S word!
Diane, we don’t know who those two are either, but I am sure when you tell us we will be saying “Oh yeah, right”.
2:08 pm on August 16th, 2014
Summer!…It is definitely summer here finally…sneeze!…It’s hot as hell outside and getting hotter. Tomorrow my friend gets to go to the game and it will be hot as hell then too…wheeze!…She is not good at sitting in the sun for a long time…gasp!
2:09 pm on August 16th, 2014
Awww – poor Beau. He must have been really scared to have lost control. That was how our little Gilly was the first time we tried to clip her nails. Thank dawg we have a really good groomer who has gotten her past her terror.
Glad to hear that Beau will be a-ok. All is well
Kat – you need to have the SPCA on speed dial like we do.
Well, the van is all packed up and we have seen the dreaded suitcase. So, apparently we are about to be abandoned yet again. Set up at the Really Long Shew starts tomorrow and continues on Monday. Then Tuesday the gates open and billions of customers come swooping in to buy….we hope.
Mama bought a 7 day hot spot for her tablet so she can run credit cards. She should also be able to keep in touch with us and the blog, if all goes as expected. She is getting way too anxious about this show – she has inventory up the whazoo and has the booth all planned out. She says things are going too smoothly – she is just waiting for the other s h o e to drop.
2:09 pm on August 16th, 2014
Why is Fall coming so soon? It will put the Kibash to my outdoor cafe time, but it may signal another awesome Husky Winter!
2:11 pm on August 16th, 2014
Glad Beau didn’t have anything serious like a torn ACL.
Rio, Parts of Chapter 4 & 5 were funny, but we have not gotten to Ch. 7 yet. We are fore warned.
2:13 pm on August 16th, 2014
I am happy that there is nothing seriously wrong with Beau, but I still wish he would have hidden better.
T&G, I can make us reservations somewhere. See how they like it when we desert them. HRMPH
2:13 pm on August 16th, 2014
Kat, It is that imaginary left wing hoax called Global Climate Change.
2:27 pm on August 16th, 2014
Good for Beau, he let that big V E T know just what was what and who had unforseen power! Our Zoe has only to snarl a bit and our V E T, apparently not as brave as Beau’s, has her hauled to the back room for a little relaxation med before he does what has to be done. Poor Zoe. Glad Beau will be OK.
2:32 pm on August 16th, 2014
And yes, I remember the 60’s! The girl in the photo with the bangs might be Deborah Walley, don’t know the other one. I do remember vividly the first time I heard The Beatles!
2:36 pm on August 16th, 2014
It isn’t fall here either. Evidently the world has turned upside down. North Dakota weather today High 80’s and a chance of thunderstorms. Still picking peas in the garden!
2:36 pm on August 16th, 2014
I’m glad to hear the news about Beau.
Diane: I don’t know who those two women are either.
Tupper and Gilly: Have a good show.
I’m wondering if Lester is a Cooper’s Hawk:

Philip Walters who will be running the B Team from Snowhook in the 2015 Iditarod, has a great website up and running. I’ve attached the page about the dogs on his team so you can see some familiar friends. Plus it looks like “Little” from the Plunderer pups will be in the race!

Pancho & Lefty? You don’t say!
Good News for Beau!
Poor Tupper&Gilly: Leaving you Again, are they? I’m sure it is necessary to put those Favorite Treaties in your bowls.
3:25 pm on August 16th, 2014
Weather! It went from the high 90’s to the low 60’s overnight. What a shock to everyone. We are not pleased. No we are not.
3:26 pm on August 16th, 2014
C. Hobbit–I will take a page from B. Starr’s book and demand a tiny swinging mousie of my own. (I would take good care of it.)
Oh no! Poor Beau! I hope he’s doing much better. (Ms. Pretty had an interesting time at the v e t yesterday, came through it with apparently less panic than Beau, but with–what a coincidence B and M–a torn ACL.)
I thought of the 60s when I saw the dog claiming to smell colors–it seemed so psychedelic. The ladies in the picture (neither is Deborah Walley, ALR, but just hearing that name again was a blast from the past) antedate the psychedelic part of the decade.
So, C. Hobbitt, B and M, SiberH, BSD, and B. Stover, if you’re up for a yet another clue–“Scandal”.
On a lunch break. Back to the library…
3:51 pm on August 16th, 2014
Liz Taylor and Debbie Reynolds?
3:53 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rio, I thought both of Beau’s back legs were bothering him.
3:58 pm on August 16th, 2014
BooBear!…He twisted his other knee last year…sniff!…So he always favors it and puts more stress on the left knew which he blew-out early this week…snort!…Right before my friend’s trip to meet Spencer. She was probably all worrit about him while she was away no doubt…grunt!…That guy gets more attention doing dumb stuff…gruffle!
3:58 pm on August 16th, 2014
Knew!…should be knee…grunt!
4:02 pm on August 16th, 2014
Okay–I found it. Her (the one on the right) initials are CK. Think British. She’s 71 years old now.
4:02 pm on August 16th, 2014
Just checked out Phillip’s dogs! My Jem!!! Jem of the great big nose. So many of the names we know! Who will be running for AJ?
And the thieves! Gonna have to work hard for their bootie this year!
4:08 pm on August 16th, 2014
DianeC: We here are still clueless. (sorry, B, those initials didn’t help).
4:16 pm on August 16th, 2014
Natty! She will be on Philip’s team also! Zowie!
Also, one of our favs Quig!
Note: He does not get to run Mom’s favorite: Clyde.

Teams!…I did not think Teams were picked till right before the race…sniff!…I have a feeling things can change…heh!…Just saying. The Big Race seems so far away, but we should start thinking about how we are going to run the fund raisers this season….snort! …Any ideas? Any volunteers to help think of ideas? Or anything?…heh!heh!
4:41 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rose!…We here have been thinking of Rose a lot lately. She said she did a lot of crying in her last session with the shrinking-head doctor…sniffle!…This could be a good thing or a bad thing…wuffle!
4:50 pm on August 16th, 2014
Christine Keeler?
Remember the scandal.
Regards from UK.
Love the books, even if I don’t understand all the American slang!
4:55 pm on August 16th, 2014
B. Stover–Nice going. Apparently I was more invested in this particular news event–the first one that made a really big impressions on me–than others here.
Masquers–Cold War+espionage.
And where is Wose/Rose?
4:56 pm on August 16th, 2014
Whoops! I was typing when Trisha posted. Well done!
5:02 pm on August 16th, 2014
I remember Christine Keeler. Was thinking more along lines of actresses. Then thought maybe Margaret Thoreau, but looked her up and eliminated that idea. She was the wife of the P.M. of Canada.
Who is the one on the left?
5:02 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha: Thank You for the Answer! This was driving us Up the Proverbial Wall.
5:05 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trudeau not Thoreau.
5:13 pm on August 16th, 2014
Mystery!…Solved by a mysterious stranger from the UK…snort!…Well done and jolly good too!..heh!

Have been following the blog for a while. What a lovely bunch of people and dogs (and cats). Love the quilt!
I also enjoyed finding out all about the Iditarod, it was thrilling reading AJ’s updates each day. Looking forward to the next one.

Trisha: It would be fun to have examples of the American slang that you don’t understand.
6:01 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha, It would be fun as Stover said, and we could translate for you.
6:04 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha, anything you don’t understand about the American slang in the books, just ask. We will be happy to help you.
6:04 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha!…I bet I could do some trans-atlantic translating for you…heh!heh!burp! …Just say the word. Whatever that is…snort!
6:07 pm on August 16th, 2014
Wow!…Are we all anxious to meet a Brit or what?…sniff!…Our Aussie doesn’t show up anymore, but I’m hoping it’s because she is busy selling her artwork…snort!

Welcome Trisha!
In celebration of a new friend from the UK, Mama let us have the leftover peas from dinner. She just spills the peas on the floor and let’s us have at ’em.

Slim Jims for a start – I guess some kind of sausage?
Cheetos? Yinyang? And something with a name a bit like picallilli that Chet can smell in the desert.
It’s a whole new world!
6:23 pm on August 16th, 2014
Tupper!…Is that Gilly who looks up into the kamera with pleading-pea eyes?,..snort!…I’m guessing those girls hardly ever get fed at all. Sort of like me…sniff!
6:28 pm on August 16th, 2014
Welcome, Trisha.
Slim Jims – very processed sausage one can buy at the counter at gas stations and convenience stores. Bad for you!
Ying Yang. In abundance. A cleaner version of out the a**.
Also you can say “out the wazoo”. Means the same thing.
Cheetos – Our dear friend, who recently passed always, called Cheetos part of the “orange food group”. Snack food, that is made of who knows what! Also not good for you. What can I say, Chet likes some junk food along with his daily kibble, rib tips and brisket.
6:30 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rio – Tupper has the white blaze on her face. Gilly has the better begging look down pat.
Trisha – Slim Jims are strange even here. They are skinny little dried sausages, sold at convenience stores for a quick snack. But the only ones who like them tend to be four legged.
Cheetos are cheese flavored corn puffs – a most specific orange color not found in nature.
And those things Chet smells in the desert are a type of wild pig.
6:31 pm on August 16th, 2014
Late!…Trish is up late I wonder why?…sniff!
6:31 pm on August 16th, 2014
Sorry about the improperly placed coma.
6:33 pm on August 16th, 2014
T & G are talking about a javelina. Looks like a small wild pig, but in the peccary family.
6:34 pm on August 16th, 2014
Gilly!…White-blaze and all was doing a grand job of begging into the camera…snort!…She should add a few Yeeep!Yeeeep!..Yeeeeps! and she could garner a full buffet…heh!
6:37 pm on August 16th, 2014
In honor of the hummers that have been hanging out with us, this is the newest necklace in the collection.

6:40 pm on August 16th, 2014
Thanks for the translations. All that junk food doesn’t seem to have done Chet any harm!
Bedtime in UK. Good night!
6:53 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trish!…Junk food equals good food in my vocabulary…heh!heh!…Take potato chips, pizza, fries, hot-wings and beer…belch!… I have not seen one of these things in ages. ….grump!…My friend is on a “healthy” diet. Albeit there are times she has to appear to enjoy her mother’s cooking…snorkel!…Very little is actually eaten..sniff!burp!…I get some of it unfortunately, but I have never turned down a hand-out from the table…chuffle!gobble!
6:54 pm on August 16th, 2014
Thanks, we were lost and brain spinning. Heading for boat with Lucy Lou dog help us
6:56 pm on August 16th, 2014
Bah!…We will never see Trisha “from the UK” again..snort!..Why did she suddenly appear?…sniff!…She is a mystery by golly…heh!heh!…But she will never come back again I betcha…grunt!
6:58 pm on August 16th, 2014
Tupper&Gilly, do you have any bears in your collection?
7:11 pm on August 16th, 2014
You lost your bet Rio! I’m still up.
“Hot wings”?
7:15 pm on August 16th, 2014
tee hee – Good for you Trish. We love teasing that Pug.
MPM – no beaded, jewelry bears. But now you have us thinking….
7:22 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha, Before you go, what time is it there and what part of the UK are you from? Also, are you a dog or cat person?
7:33 pm on August 16th, 2014
Here is a picture from the family get together. Brother Dave on left, sister Sally in the middle, me on the right. Not wild about my picture, since I am not smiling, but it is the only we took of the 3 of us.
7:53 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha: Hot wings are chicken wings with a hot sauce. Here’s a link with recipe and picture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_wing
7:57 pm on August 16th, 2014
Trisha, Hot wings are really funny because they are chicken wings and were a part of a chicken that we used to throw away. Then they got made into something fried with hot sauce and all of a sudden they became a big hit.
8:07 pm on August 16th, 2014
Welcome, Trisha. Hope we hear more from you. 8pm here and are on the TN river, fishing. Lucy Lou, Labrador loves it too.

Wings were created in Buffalo, N.Y. and I got to try some this last March when Staff, Dawson and I took a train trip out east and stayed in the Hotel where MPM has a condo. The trip was great and so were the wings!

T & G, Thanks, and I LOVE the necklace. How long did it take to do all the bead work?
BTW, not one person commented on the weight loss, which was sort of disappointing. What can you do – they’re family.
8:43 pm on August 16th, 2014
A good day in West Cummington today. Zoe stays in touch with several friends who were with her in grades 7 through 10 in New York City. One fellow and his wife came to visit today and spend the night on their way to Easterm Massachusetts. What fun!
Makes me wonder if I would ever want to even remember those grades?
Welcome Trisha!
8:45 pm on August 16th, 2014
BarB!…You are looking great!…snorkel!…Walking is the best thing for losing total body weight, so says my friend. Also not eating much at all helps a lot…..sniff!…Even Beau has lost a coupla pounds so far on those walks he USED TO ENJOY…grunt!…Poor buggar! Now it is just me and my friend like old times…heh!heh!
8:52 pm on August 16th, 2014
Martha!…I will tell you and only you a secret…heh!…My friend was not alone when she finally got to meet Spencer. Her oldest and dearest friend met her at the bookstore…(((sigh)))…Was she ever relieved. They have been friends since 6th grade, or 12 years old, whatever comes first…sniff!…Anyway, my friend couldn’t take me, so she settled for Patty instead…grunt!…I hear Patty had a really good time and blabbed some stuff about my friend to Spencer…snort!…Patty, what a gal! Those who blab together stay together….chorkel!

Rio, if you were here Rollin’ on the river, I’d share mom’s lap with ya.

8:55 pm on August 16th, 2014
I’m back home from Sly Fox Brewery. There were a lot of dogs and 2-legged kids there. Everyone patted me and told me how good I am. But, I already knew that.
Trish! We have a for-real Brit on this here blog! {whispering} Do ypuse think she went to the Royal wedding too?
Barb, you look fabulous! Can you please whisper your secret to my mom? Shhh…don’t tell her I asked you though.
9:30 pm on August 16th, 2014
Crap!…So Beau gets to stay home and I have to go walk…grump!snuff!puke!…This is not fair. No not at all…sniff!
9:31 pm on August 16th, 2014
Hello again, All–Back from the library and a very long day. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s translations (so do you think I can ask Trish about obscure–to me–Brit terms like “Phowar”?) I don’t really see how “javalina” sounds like “picalilli” but what do I know–that’s a better bet than “mesquite” or “greasewood”. I am impressed with the admirably succinct descriptions of Slim Jims–I wouldn’t have known where to begin–ditto for Cheetos. I probably would have simply gone with pictures–maybe still can. Everyone on this blog is so literate and communicative…(so why couldn’t you ID Mandy Rice-Davis [my role model at age 10] who, incidentally, is aging MUCH better than Ms. Keeler?)
Tupper’s Mama–I love the hummingbird necklace. Do you do anything similar with rabbits?
Also, somewhat disturbingly discovered that Edgar seems to enjoy licking beer from my finger…
I’m going to make it an early night and go read P and O.
9:32 pm on August 16th, 2014
Remember Rio, this walking stuff will benefit both of you. And thanks for the words of encouragement. We are walking every day.
9:41 pm on August 16th, 2014
Rio: Thank you for the secret. I will never tell!

DianeC. Darling Darah the dozer licks any alcohol from mom’s fingers. We worry about both of them. š
9:54 pm on August 16th, 2014
Howlers, Speaking of alcohol, that is one of the things Barb is not consuming. She did have more than a few glasses of wine at the get together, but now back to none. Also more walking, fewer calories, and no processed food.
9:55 pm on August 16th, 2014
Barb: when my sister saw me after a passage of months and I had lost 90 lbs, she didn’t say a thing. Other family members did and even asked my sister what she thought but she has never commented on it. My friends were astonished when I said that she didn’t say anything.
Oodles of noodles for now. I have been doing my weeding thing for 3 hours and need to rest. Phooey…Sadie just squeaked her toy so I guess she wants to paly
ML: did we ever hear the latest on your mom or have I been reading every other word? Is she undergoing treatment at this point or still waiting?

Hobbit – its true. Family can never cease to astound us.
Saying good night here. On the road at dawn.

Hello Trisha in the UK.
If I remember correctly the Tour de France is 5 hours ahead of me here in the Central Time zone. So does that mean England is the same difference? I have no idea. AGAIN. dagnabbit.

C Hobbit, OK now I don’t feel so bad. I lost only 15-18 lbs. so maybe they didn’t notice the difference from last November. But 90 pounds? Obviously your sister could tell. Is there a jealousy issue? Is she complimentary in other areas? My sister is not, but my brother and his wife normally are.

CHobbit, mom started her treatment Wednesday. She said it made her feel tired, not sure how that works, but…They fill her bladder full of TB germs, she lies on one side then the other as long as possible or two hours. Then bleach is poured into the toilet so we don’t all come down with TB. Repeat weekly. Hopefully, while her body is going after the TB bugs it will kill off the cancer cells too. After 8 weeks she will have another biopsy to see what is going on in there.
Congrats to any Ravens fans. Its only pre-season.

Barb: I had so much weight to lose that it was 30-40 pounds before ANYONE commented. I have regained half the weight but have jumped back on the protocol. Just be careful in maintenance. For me every 10-12 pounds was a dress size.
ML: please let your mom know that we are sending good thoughts to her.
