JoAnn Sear on The Sound and the Furry:

I forget where this book is in the series, but you really don’t need to read them in order. Love this one, love the dog’s perspective.

Welcome thoughtful dude.

    Greetings!

Maggie: I hope Brab is feeling tip-top soon.
Dawg! A lot goes on after I go to bed!
CHobbit: I hope your trip is safe and good! If the Prof would only move to Alaska, I would love to stay at the Hobbit Hotel and take care of Sadie.

Royal Mum: What a fascinating find in your book. This sounds like a novel waiting to be written.

    Hi Nana!

Wose – the next part of the “novel” – we found the cousin – he is now living in a little village partway between us and Melanie. Thinking about contacting him to tell him we found the letter – we never knew this side of the family. They were kind of distant from my mother’s family, and while we knew of their existence (and they of ours) we have never been in touch.
The only thing is that the letter must have been written when he was very young, because it is all about being able to get beer, and about how “friendly” the “chicks” were in Alaska…but in slightly more explicit words. Wondering if he would be embarrassed by knowing someone else read this letter.

Getting ready to go the Thanksgiving shopping trip. We are doing the turkey dinner thing on Sunday, since we will be away for a show next week. We have some friends coming to join us, and we are happily paging through cookbooks (have we mentioned that we LOVE cookbooks) for all kinds of veggie recipes and other side dishes. We are doing a different type of turkey – one stuffed with fresh lemons and tarragon and dusted with ground rosemary. Ok – so probably not something the pilgrims did, but then again, we ain’t no pilgrims.

T & G, We did check out some of the 1491s video and they were good. Have to go back and look at some more of them. Have fun on your Thanks Giving shopping trip.

We are lucky here. Barb is going to Kelly’s so will just be bringing some side dishes.

Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was amazingly short for that period of time. The speaker before him spoke for 2 hours. Lincoln’s speech was 3 minutes and, I believe, 273 words.

Staff, Hope you haven’t left yet. Do you want some Yellow Pear heirloom tomato seeds? We were not going to grow our own, but Barb can rescue a few dropped tomatoes from the bed before Josh puts more dirt on to this afternoon. He is coming over to build the second bed higher and top off the tomato bed. Not feeling good enough to help him, so he is on his own.

Oley, If we seed save them, you can have some too, if you want to try growing some of your own plants next spring.

Thoughtful dude’s thoughts: Slim jims, ear scritches, treats, going on an adventure with Chet, treats, slim jims, tummies.

T&G: Your turkey recipe does sound delish and I love cookbooks too. They take up entirely too much of my bookcase space. If you get ahold of your long lost relative, I hope he turns out to be a good guy.

Barb&Maggie: I’m glad the Gettysburg Address was short because I’m one of those who had to memorize it.

HOH: Scrabble! That’s a good idea for a frigid day, which it is. I’ll see if I can talk someone into a game.

Staff: Is it travel day already? Safe trip. I miss all the family even more than usual at Thanksgiving time.

Good Morning Friends (or should I say afternoon?)
Since Nana has escaped from the Rehab she is on a completely different schedule…one not to my liking I might add…one can’t even call this first meal brunch. Growl.

Royals: It is always fun to find old letters, especially with interesting family history.
Your Mama’s shopping trip sounds Fun, Fun, Fun.

Staff: Dad will be just as thrilled to see you as you are to see him. Good Trip.

Maggie: Happy to hear Barb is feeling better. We think the stress of that plane ride lowered her resistance.
Interesting about the Gettysburg Address. Apparently Lincoln was a man of few, but historic words.

Tomatoes in November! Can youse believe it? All those unriped tomatoes are now ready to eat. Even though the plants are mulch, the tenacious little fruit survived.

Dawson: Looks like a cold winter all around.
Did you have your Thanksgiving in Canada already?

    Hi, Wose.

Interesting story – Barb bought an old antique dresser a few years ago. There was an old letter in it from a young woman from Eau Claire WI, who wrote to some girl friend explaining why she left secretly to join a convent. The letter was written in the early 1930s and only included the woman’s first name. Barb sent it to the SinSinawa Convent to see if they would have interest in it for their archives. Turns out the young woman served her entire life as a nun, becoming quite prominent in the church and Principal of a Catholic H.S. She had just died a year or two before Barb found the letter. They sent Barb back some newspaper articles on her and her obituary. Interesting piece of detective work.

Cookbooks. Funny isn’t it how many of us on this here blog like cookbooks. One of the neighborhood “kids”, now 26, still comes by and asks how to cook something or another because her mom doesn’t cook much. She says she knows food can be cooked without a box. She tries once in a while, our motto is, “We’ll eat again tomorrow”.

    Barb and Maggie,
I find it hard to get good plants when I have to move them half way through the process. So I will pass on the tomato seeds this time. If I ever get to stay in one place in the spring I will bug you for some seeds.

I loved the RomaII bush beans. They seemed extra tasty and Roma’s are my favorite bean.

Rio I am glad Beau got his Zinnia seeds. They should be planted two or three (or 4 or 5) to a spot just in case. Some of them looked really spindly so I am not sure they will germinate. Mr. Staff always plants them in rows about a foot apart and then they look like a big wave of plants once they grow up. My rule is to plant them when the first dandelions bloom.

I would never leave Alice locked in the closet. That is Mr.Staff’s thing. If we don’t contain her in some manner she vanishes and we spend hours looking for her. She is small and able to vaporize as far as I can tell.

Dad is looking good and moving better than he was last time I was here. (September) He has been reading all night in his recliner.

Rose we here are glad you are on the blog more. And glad Melanie is back. I know how hard it is to share the difficult things. We are all better at sharing the good things. Sniff.

Yawn. I am waiting for Kathy to come to give Dad his eye drops so I can talk to her about how she thinks he is doing. Then bed for me.

Well, it is almost 6 am. I have been up all night trying not to rip the skin off my body. Thighs, back, belly and head fully involved. Other random patches itching like hades. Even Mr. “no doctor” has given in. Now I just have to make it to 8, to get an appointment, no telling when.

    Good non-itchy morning to all.

Macy’s Maw, Really what is happening IS serious. Tell your dr that you will live in the waiting room if they won’t make time for you . Barring that, get to a doc in a box or the ER. This sounds nasty!
