Rain
“Haven’t had rain in some time,” Spence. “Nice to hear it on the roof.”
“For the rain it raineth every day,” says Admin.
“Er, right, Shakespeare,” says Spence. “But my point was it hasn’t exactly been rainething every day.”
“What if Shakespeare had grown up in Yuma, Arizona, say? Do you think he would have still written that line?”
“I think his life would have been different in general.”
Note: Still working on a fix for the Friends gallery. No uploading possible at this time.

Good morning, everyone! Another month, an upcomng Iditarod…Wow! Checkpoints already. Dawson IS the Awesome one. Thoughts and pawrayers to all in need (and it is a long list). We hold y’all near and dear. Darah is quivering at the thought of blurring to be a pillow. Lucy Lou sents dainty licks. Blondie can help exercise anyone who deems that necessary and Pookey will sit and think of you.
Have a whimsical Wednesday.

Greetings!
It is a soggy Wednesday here in Westchester.
Last night, a good friend of mine invited me to see Beatlemania at the Westchester Broadway Theatre. Since they are my most favorite group, it was a good time.
Royal Mum, Sending strong, healing WosenGrizz thoughts to your brother.
ZOE, Please know that I send you, Mac and Mattie loving thoughts and healing prayers. May the Creator bless you all.
Head shrinking day….at this point, there is not much left to shrink. My head is beginning to look like a sharpened pencil.
Good day to all!

HOH’s, Do youse ever sleep?!
8:18 am on October 1st, 2014
Good morning all. Barb is off to work on a non-working Wednesday.
Temps were down in the 40’s last night, after 80 on Sunday. Cold weather is definitely in our near future.
Thinking of Amalia’s brother, ML, Karen and Mattie this morning.
Dawson, you are awesome!
9:04 am on October 1st, 2014
RIO! This might have been your time to be FOM, but conveniently, the blog is not working properly. Conspiracy? heh! snort! chuffle!

Shakespeare used the same line in King Lear.
Good morning all.

Aw, what is so great about rain? We can’t pretend to escape – Mama knows there is no way in heck that we are getting our precious little paws damp.
But for some reason, they are happy about the rain. Humans. Sheesh.
The birds are really active around here. They are stopping all the berries off the bushes in our front yard and across the street. The blue jays are screaming like mad.
Boy, we could really go for a blue jay burger right about now. Hold the pickle.

Greetings, blessings and prayers for all. Good to see that Sage seems back to tip-top. Leaving to give exams (oboy–I don’t have to talk much this week).
Travel safely, those of you on the road.
10:25 am on October 1st, 2014
Mattie is a bit more with it today. Thanks to you all for your prayers and good wishes. At least she seem not to be in pain and I am going to see if I can get one of her delicate and welcome kisses. Thanks. Keep her in your prayers, please. Zoe
11:17 am on October 1st, 2014
Zoe: Mattie is in our Thoughts & Prayers and so are you and Mac.
Sending Big Bear Hugs to you all.
And Sage, he of the HerbKats, looks much Perkier this morning which makes us very happy too.

Checkpoint Update
Overnight there were 3 donations to open up checkpoints for donations:
Unalakleet has been chosen for Bear Spirit Dog and Masquers!
Shageluck has been chosen for the Herd of Hounds – past and present!
And lastly a checkpoint will be chosen for Rick and Truman!
Along with the McGrath</em checkpoint for Melanie, all these checkpoints are open for donations.
The new SDD is “snowhookcheckpoints@gmail.com”.
A big thank you and congratulations to all of us upon the second day of Checkpoint Central – Iditarod 2015!
Go Snowhook!

Tupper’s Mama: Made me laugh!!
I will be gone all morning (it’s still morning here) I have a chiropractor appointment and then t’ai chi.
1:01 pm on October 1st, 2014
T&G: Heh, heh. good one.
HOH: What are these tests for Spongetta? Dare we ask?
B: Yesterday you mentioned the American version of Broadchurch debuting on Fox(?) Did you watch it, and if so, do you recommend it?
We are watching The Roosevelts and House of Cards: Projections of Power on PBS. Quite lengthy (1:43:43) but very interesting.
Rose: You are sharp, but your head is definitely not like a pencil (even though sometimes it may feel that way).
I am blurring over to hold your paw.

Funny!…Those two knuckleheads up top are pretty funny. Raineth indeed….snort!
1:15 pm on October 1st, 2014
Baker!…So because the Fabulous Baker Boy will not do his job in a timely fashion we have to look at that ugly Hamilton yet another day?…grump!
1:28 pm on October 1st, 2014
It does not raineth here. Living in the desert does have its advantages. Cool nights now and sunshine filled days and deep blue skies. The Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta starts this weekend.
Zoe, You and Mattie are in our prayers.
I am going to give some thought to checkpoints now.
1:28 pm on October 1st, 2014
Masquers, tests for epilepsy and kidney stones and gall bladder.
1:31 pm on October 1st, 2014
I like Hamilton. I think he looks distinquished! Once his second picture (him being a land shark) was up there at the same time as his winning photo. Lucky dog!

So…Hamilton Reigns for Another (Day) Month.
Siber-H: Looking Forward to Your Choice of Checkpoints.
1:39 pm on October 1st, 2014
Masquers: Gracepoint starts this Thursday night on Fox. I’ll be watching it On Demand (possibly Friday or this weekend). There will be ten episodes.
I’m going to send a check for $250 to Snowhook for a checkpoint in memory of Brandy.
While I was out in the car, 25 to 30 geese flew by and landed in one of the ponds. It was neat to watch.
1:40 pm on October 1st, 2014
In the short amount of time I was gone another whole checkpoint has been sponsored!
It is an honor for Snowhook Kennels to announce that White Mountain has been completely sponsored in honor and memory of dear Gus and beloved Truman.
Thank you BooBear and family for making this a yearly tradition.
Go Snowhook!
1:44 pm on October 1st, 2014
Wow!
Thanks BStover for that pledge in memory of Brandy. You have had Ophir checkpoint in past years.
Brandy runs like the wind!
Go Snowhook!

The Sportsman tv Channel remains the official tv network of the Iditarod. I suppose this means the Iditarod Insider will once again give away for free the streaming of the re-start to its viewers.
I believe this is why we could not view the re-start last year…too many people hitting the Iditarod’s website. I never believed their story that they were “under attack”
1:51 pm on October 1st, 2014
Thank you, B. It’s good to know I didn’t miss the first episode.
Siber: The Iditarod Insider has more than a little explaining to
do.
Dawson: Great start to the checkpoint sponsorships!
btw: using a separate email is a touch of genius.
1:58 pm on October 1st, 2014
Masquers, The Insider will explain nothing. I know them. I hope I’m wrong. So many times in life I hope that I am wrong.
Bear, I chose Elim for me and Shaktoolik for Chet.

B: That is a great picture of your Brandy (when I click on the foto she is larger than life…which is as it should be).
2:16 pm on October 1st, 2014
the second time clicking on the picture it is a normal enlargement…do you think M.Baker is coming closer to a solution to the upload problem? paws crossed.
2:18 pm on October 1st, 2014
Is there a list of the checkpoints?
2:20 pm on October 1st, 2014
Fellow Sibers, I went to the Iditarod’s website and used their map of the Iditarod Trail to look at the checkpoints.
2:22 pm on October 1st, 2014
Brandy was male. I like the big picture!
2:22 pm on October 1st, 2014
Wow! That picture of Brandy enlarged beautifully.

2:30 pm on October 1st, 2014
Hi, guys! Sorry I have been absent these past few days but girlfriends took mom out of town for her b-day and she didn’t leave the ipad for me.
Happy birthday to all the September birthdays that we missed (Nana, Eileen and Barb?) Did I miss anyone?
Mom and I are very moved that there will be a checkpoint for Truman and Rick in addition to White Mountain in memory of Dad and Gus. Dawson, Mom will email you with a donation amount for that checkpoint and paypal Rebecca the payment this evening.
Mom feels a bit like ML lately. It seems that all kinds of things that Dad could just take care of are breaking around the house. Of course, this year he couldn’t really fix things, but Mom is getting good at calling the repairman out. Next on the agenda, garage door opener. GAH! Just decided to quit working overnight.
PS: Mom is doing “ok”. Has good days and not as good days. She is keeping up with the blog just doesn’t always post. Luckily, she has her job back and all of us kitties to take care of (I’m sure that’s the best for healing hearts.)
2:34 pm on October 1st, 2014
BooBear, Welcome back and I’m glad your mom had a little Holiday.
2:41 pm on October 1st, 2014
Fellow Sibers You are correct about the map. Ok…I just googled The Iditarod Trail Southern Route and the link took me right to a map of the southern route on the Iditarod’s website…go figure.
2:44 pm on October 1st, 2014
Gah! B, Please forgive the foe paw. We knew Brandy was a he. I’d blame it on BSD but he was nowhere around (this time).
BooBear: Hope your mom had a very nice b-day. Hugs to you both.
3:16 pm on October 1st, 2014
Masquers: No problem.
4:01 pm on October 1st, 2014
BStover: I love the picture of Brandy running like the wind!
I am happy to report that we are snowed under with donations.

I’m watching Scorpion and really like it. Here’s something from it: “What month has 28 days?”
4:31 pm on October 1st, 2014
B, all 12 months have 28 days. February is the only month to have ONLY 28 days
4:41 pm on October 1st, 2014
We have just learned something new from a facebookie friend. On the first day of the month, you can bring good luck to yourself and those you say it to by saying – Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!
No, we don’t know if it works or what the origin of the tradition is, but you know what? If there is a snowball’s chance in hell that there is something to it, we will say it on the first of every month, 12 months a year
And Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit to all of you!
4:50 pm on October 1st, 2014
BooBear did it!
4:58 pm on October 1st, 2014
Yeah!! Sometimes the mind kicks in like it should.
5:12 pm on October 1st, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: We’re with you…if only a Snowball’s Chance…Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!!!
Clever BooBear. We, of course, said February, the obvious answer and Only 1/12th Percent right.
5:20 pm on October 1st, 2014
Sniffle, sob, we here are all in tears over the sweet thought of a checkpoint for our dad and Boo-Bear’s too. We will be getting a check to Snowhook in due course. We can’t believe that Friday will be six months that our dad has been gone.
Sniffle, sob has been mom’s theme song here lately. She stinks at Spanish, she can’t crochet and her drawing and painting teacher doesn’t teach anything. Thank goodness for the two classes that all she has to do is listen.
Sorry for all the birthdays and anniversaries we have missed. Happy everything.
Dainty licks to Mattie and to Zoe and Mac as well. Love from our pack to yours.

OK Dawson is making me jealous. So I am opening the SHAKE YOUR BOOTIES campaign. We have to work at buying 1500 booties to get the dogs feed safe through the season. So, as before, you have to email me to report donations. I will have occasional prizes if I can think of any. That will be as soon as the quilt show is done. It is this Saturday. It is always something!
the email addy is ncdrewatgeemaledotcom. I hope you all understand that…let me know if you don’t.

Those videos are funny.
6:55 pm on October 1st, 2014
ML, This is probably a dumb question, but why are you taking classes you don’t like? Since I know you are past high school age, you shouldn’t be subjected to required courses. Why not take something you enjoy?
We have been gone all day and are amazed at how much has been donated today.
Glad Mattie is feeling a little better and that Karen had a fun outing.

Checkpoint Update!
I am overwhelmed by the Plunderers support for checkpoints this year. What an amazing group with whom to share our joys and sorrows! But, I digress…
The following 7 checkpoints are fully funded:
Safety – Jim and Vicki Sutterfield
Koyuk – Rio, Beau & friend
White Mountain – Gus and Truman
Ophir – BStover’s Brandy
Elim – SiberH
Shatoolik – Chet the Jet
Nikolai – Wookie (in spirit) and Teddy
The following checkpoints are open for donations:
McGrath – Melanie
Unalakleet – Bear Spirit Dog & Masquers
Shageluk – Herd of Hounds, past and present
Rainy Pass – Dima
Unknown checkpoint – Rick and Truman (the Texans)
We also have a very generous donation that can be used for those who may want to start up a checkpoint but have no funds. So if you want a checkpoint to be opened for donations, you only need send a SDD. Thank you to all our wonderful donors and supporters and all Plunderers and Lurkers!
I know those Snowhook doggies are working hard to make the team and the Giant and the Pixie are giving them all the love and tummies they need to stay happy and healthy and raring to go!
Thank you from Snowhook Checkpoint Central!
Go Snowhook!

Checkpoint Answers
Someone has asked what the minimum amount to start up a checkpoint is and the answer is zero, zed, nada, nothing!
That’s right, we have funds for start-ups.
Earlier I did say you could start one up for $20. but in light of this new development, any dog or cat can start up a checkpoint with enthusiasm only, no money needed!
I’ve had a busy day and am now washing dishes in the bathtub (sigh) so there will probably be no further updates tonight.
My heart if full of gratitude for each and every one of you.
9:24 pm on October 1st, 2014
Oh wait!
I forgot the most important information. Duh!
One more new checkpoint has been opened. It is for Zoe & family.
Whooo Hooo! Go Snowhook!
A special thank you to Rio and Staff for start-ups.
Now for a strengthening cocktail!
9:24 pm on October 1st, 2014
Watching the baseball game and baking cookies for the quilt show this weekend. We feed the masses…heh heh heh..
SHAKE YOUR BOOTY!
All right! We have an offer from several plunderers for 150 to be matched. So if you want to make that money available for booties NOW IS YOUR CHANCE. Yes, I am yelling! You guys are great.
ncdrewatgeemaledotcom ;-D
ALSO The wonderful the marvelous the plunderer known as Golinka has offered to create some prizes and I say thank you very much. More will be revealed about the prizes as we learn more here at booty central…

10:12 pm on October 1st, 2014
Rio or Dawson, we have several new folks who may not understand sponsoring a checkpoint. Could one of y’all briefly explain why it is important?
10:16 pm on October 1st, 2014
Staff, love the pug booty foto. Late, must go nighty nachos so mom can sleep, sort of 🙂
10:16 pm on October 1st, 2014
Prizes!…..Artistical prizes will be given by our own Golinka?…snort!…Oh my dawg! This is really amazing news!…snort!…If anyone else who wants to donate prizes for milestones reached on the Checkpoints or the Booties fund please report into either or sister…chuffle!…This would be wonderful if we have donated prizes for our beloved sponsors…puffle!
10:19 pm on October 1st, 2014
Beau, How about this one?

Melanie found that on for me….sniff
10:24 pm on October 1st, 2014
Checkpoints!…And the reason behind the need for our donations…snort!…I see the Checkpoint Donations as the total Needs For Survival on the trail…sniff!…This is the Dog Food, the Musher Food, the Straw, the needed supplies and replacement of used supplies, and here at this point I need Snowhook to step in and detail what else is really needed for our team at each and every checkpoint…wuffle!…I am an inadequate supplier of knowledge at this point..sniff!….But in my flat-head brain, Checkpoints are the means to Life Revival and Survival to the next Checkpoint…wheeze!
10:39 pm on October 1st, 2014
Rio, That is so true. It is food for the Giant and the dogs. It is straw for their beds and extra supplies for the next nights run. And it is very important!
As are the booties, of course.
10:41 pm on October 1st, 2014
The Checkpoint Sponsorship and Naming is an important part of Snowhook Kennels annual fundraising.
The checkpoints are mandatory stops along the Iditarod Trail on the way to Nome. Before the race, Justin and Rebecca make up “drop bags” full of food and all supplies needed to get 16 dogs and 1 musher to the next checkpoint. When you sponsor a checkpoint you are helping get all the dogs and the musher to your checkpoint along with all the drop bags and all the other equipment including sleds and WosenGrizzes (a finishing sled provided by Wose and Grizz).
Am I babbling? My brain is shutting down…
Checkpoints are sponsored to honor people, dogs and kats we have known and loved, groups, events or any other thing your imagination supplies.
Personally, I find sponsoring a checkpoint also has the benefit of teaching you some geography if you look up the terrain around your checkpoint to see what the team will encounter.
10:50 pm on October 1st, 2014
Dawson!…Well said, my friend …snuffle!..Well Said,,,sniff!…The Checkpoints are a literal Life Line for our team. A Life Line.
10:54 pm on October 1st, 2014
Zoe: A certain Pug has ensured me that he will not discharge any evil odors from under his curly tail while he gives you a big kiss that he earned by starting up a checkpoint for you!
I told him that you are no stranger to slobber!
We hope Mattie is doing well.
10:55 pm on October 1st, 2014
Zoe!…heh!heh!…Slurp!Slobber!SMOOOOch!
10:56 pm on October 1st, 2014
I want to remind everyone that you can match just the tiniest part of the booty fund. If all you can afford is a 5 dollar donation then that will make 5 dollars of the matching funds available. So you don’t have to match the whole amount.
This ball game is a disappointment. grump. After yesterday I am already spoiled.
11:02 pm on October 1st, 2014
Rio: I saw your post at 10:24 after I posted mine because I was reading every other post. There is a whole year of work and training involved in getting these canine athletes to the starting line and down the Iditarod Trail from checkpoint to checkpoint to Nome!
I do know that an enormous amount of highly nutritious groceries are needed to provide fuel alone for the team.
11:06 pm on October 1st, 2014
Incrementz!…Yes, matching funds can always be in increments – meaning many peoples making small donations to match the goal…snort!…Remember this: It takes a Village to support an Iditarod Team!!!…snorkel!
11:14 pm on October 1st, 2014
Dawson!…You are a big reminder that these guys, our TEAM, needs support year round. Not just during Race Time. This kennel needs consistent support…sniff!….I hope everyone out there can try to imagine the cost of feeding and caring for 55++ guys day in and day out…grunt!…I cannot do that kind of math on the fly, but I am thinking it must be a very large number…gah!…Now add in the Iditarod – The Last Great Race.
11:18 pm on October 1st, 2014
Staff: Sooooo if a Dawg (or Kat) were to come up with…let’s say $20 Buckaroos for the Shake Your Booty Fund…this would be Matched in Kind?
Count me in!
11:52 pm on October 1st, 2014
Nana!…Hi to you and Maskers!!!…heh!….I think our Ms Staff is busy as usual in her quilting club or tending to Mr. FireSlippers needs. So I would say to you that if she offers up a “Match” as is her way, then you can count on your 20.00 bucks being matched for the Shake Yer Bootie Fund…WOOOOO!….Please do send Staff an official SDD though so she can keep appropriate accounting records…sniff! …Your 20 becomes 40 through the generous donations of the Plunderers…Yeeep!…It’s a Great Thing. …everyone say AMEN!
11:54 pm on October 1st, 2014
