Wonder if Ziva was named after the character in NCIS.
Good morning all.

Good Morning B!
Love the picture of Sugar Bear!
Look over to the right….
Greetings to All!

Ziva was Bear’s kind of girl.
Morning all. Lots of rain expected later today, and we may hit 60 degrees tomorrow. Crazy!

I loved Staff’s picture of sled Kats. I knew there had to be some use for those guys.

Ve are so confused. Ve understand to buy some type skim milk “tastes like whole milk”. But now in store is orange that “tastes like cherry” and frozen rabbit vhich “tastes like chicken”. So vhy vould ve buy those vhen REAL cherries or chicken cost less and taste like themselves?

Have no idea Natasha . . except perhaps the people who wrote the ads have no taste buds.
G’Nite, LizF! Stay cool. Another reason to have a Hobbit House.
Ziva was a hero. I wonder how she was at leaping.
Morning of Rest Day. We will see how this goes.

Watched a really good movie last night from Netflix. Big Miracle, a true story from 1988 when 3 whales got stranded 5 miles from open water. Various groups come together to try to help them. Lots of original news clips are included. It will make you cry at times, but it was a great film.
10:23 am on January 10th, 2013
Just read the news about Sasha. We are so very sorry for your loss, OHs. It is never easy to let them go. As Wookie’s dad said, hold the good memories close and know that she is happy with her Moonman and all the friends waiting at the bridge to help.

Hey Basil and Sage, we have 3 Kats and they’re far from PERFECT.

Steve – it’s ok. We understand that it is difficult for humans to be able to grasp the concept of “purrfection”

No Kats here. We had Kats. Two arrived with us 13 years ago. Unfortunately, our first Newfoundland considered them prey. Fortunately, the Kats considered themselves jokesters of the first degree. They ran that Jamie ragged.
11:18 am on January 10th, 2013
Kats!…No Kats here. Her mother traps them and sends them off to the Humane Society…grunt!… Me and Beau supervise the whole sordid affair…wheeze!

Good morning All.
Thank you all for your nice words for Sasha and the rest of my family. I consider myself the most fortunate of Dogmates to have lived with a wonderful girl like Sasha for 15 years, and well past her 17th birthday. That is extraordinary, and makes the untimely losses so many of you have had to endure so unfair. Still, I must tell you that this was not easy and has hit me like a ton of bricks. As much as I thought I was prepared, there is really no way to prepare oneself for having to make that decision. Oh how we wished that her heart or other organ would have given out before we had to decide that she was just too lost and uncomfortable to keep her with us any longer. It has been a long time since our tenacious girl was able to enjoy any part of her day. She was either sleeping or crying. Once she started falling down with almost every step, it was heartbreaking, and I knew I couldn’t live with the thought of coming home to find her in some of the awful, painful spots that we were rescuing her from while we were with her. Once I had decided her agony must end, it was as if she knew. She was finally lying peacefully and kissing me and looking at me with grateful eyes. Dima and Meashka seemed to know too. They laid across me, with their chins against Sasha, and we all cried and whispered our stories with her. Now I know she is in a better place.
This morning on my drive to work, I saw the crescent moon ahead of me, with an oh-so-bright star at its corner. I really do believe that was Sasha meeting up with her beloved Moonman finally. And last night, I thought I heard him ask me why I took so long to send her to him.
Thank you friends.

I’ll be seeing you.

OH’s Mom – We know it was terribly difficult. But we also know that it is the deepest kind of love that lets us let our beloved ones go.
BearSpiritDog – that was the most perfect song for today. Thank you.
12:26 pm on January 10th, 2013
OHs, never easy and you will find yourself missing her a lot as you start remembering all the happy times.
Mom is at work and looking at her WhiteyLance mousepad and thinking it is kind of sad that the boy that got us started with Showhook and the Iditarod probably won’t make the A-team this year.
12:29 pm on January 10th, 2013
Also, please don’t take offense, but Bluecat, we always assumed you were a boy cat! Not true?
12:38 pm on January 10th, 2013
Beautiful said, OH’s Mom
Sniff

G&BB: We were thinking the same thing…Whitey-Lance not running the Iditarod…How can this be?
Temps are going down, down, down…we may have an appearance of the white stuff on Saturday.
B&M: Send some of the warm breezes back our way please.
1:00 pm on January 10th, 2013
Sasha, sob, sob, sob
Howlers Mom, Shash is free and running with Moonman now.
We know you feel deep grief. Mom went through the exact same thing with her Dingo that you did with Sasha…all the age related problems. The Dingo lived to be 17 1/2.
1:01 pm on January 10th, 2013
Thank you everyone for your love and support. Sasha was a very independent and feisty little girl. She and her Misha are already out running and hunting in the fields together. She will be missed very much. I don’t think the fuzzbutts, groundhogs and skunks will be missing her but the other Howlers are missing her already and have big paws to fill. Thank you again.

1:02 pm on January 10th, 2013
Barb&Magpie: Yes, Ziva did the nation within proud. I’ve often wondered what my life would have been like had I taken that road.
Staff: The song touched our hearts. Sniff.
1:04 pm on January 10th, 2013
Question!…Stover and I would like to start the Feed The Giant campaign (we have prizes!) but do youse guys think we should hold off on this till all the Checkpoints and Quig are fully funded?…snort!…We wouldn’t want to make everyone feel over-burdened in anyany (we have 4 prizes!!)…sniff!…So please let us know your feelings on this as soon as possible and even quicker than that….grunt!

O.Howlers: A Beautiful Picture to hold in Memory.
1:07 pm on January 10th, 2013
Riö! It’s coming down to the wire…perhaps better to start sooner than later…(whispering) what are the prizes?
1:09 pm on January 10th, 2013
I have always thought of Bluecat as a boy.
You guys, don’t be upset about Whitey-Lance not running the Iditarod this year. This happens all the time in long distance mushing for different reasons. I wish he could be in the team, but I am accepting of the fact that he probably won’t be.
All of us here on the blog love you anyway and just as much, Whitey-Lance.
1:12 pm on January 10th, 2013
Blu-Kat!…Girl-Kat!…snort!
1:14 pm on January 10th, 2013
Prizes!…Maskers they are awesome!…snort!…A collaboration between Bee-Stover and me!me!me! (or someone who I know)…heh!
1:14 pm on January 10th, 2013
Howler’s Pop, Thank you for the beautiful photo
Rio, I agree with Masquers…time is running out and what are the prizes?
1:15 pm on January 10th, 2013
Photos!…Are not yet available…grunt!grumble!
1:16 pm on January 10th, 2013
Can’t you just picture Whitey-Lance with a coach’s cap on his head, and a whistle around his neck?
(and a humorous gleam in his eye)
1:16 pm on January 10th, 2013
So far we have $135 for our famous high-jumper Quigley. Mom says that leaves $365 remaining to cover him. No idea if she is right, but just supposing she is: then she says just 6-$50 pledges could put us over the top. She will donate the remainder for Sasha.
1:18 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rio – Giants take an awful lot of feeding. We say go for it!
1:18 pm on January 10th, 2013
Dawson?
Is the checkpoint for the Rescues fully funded yet?
I would like to make a donation in memory of Sasha and because I am a rescue.
1:18 pm on January 10th, 2013
T&G, we see our boy Whitey-Lance like a QB on the sidelines to let the new guy play. But he sends in all the signals. heh heh heh
1:22 pm on January 10th, 2013
Thanks for doing that, Siber. And Staff and Bear, now youse did it. That song made Mom cry and stand up to look at her picture of “The Boy and The Girl” in the snow that she has in her workplace. Then Pop goes and posts that exact picture. Jeez. She emailed us that she is sobbing so bad that she can’t leave her cube now. We may never see her!
1:32 pm on January 10th, 2013
Howlers!…Check your SDD!! Please!…snort!
1:34 pm on January 10th, 2013
SiberH: There is a little room in the Rescues Checkpoint for donations. Sob.
1:37 pm on January 10th, 2013

Booties!…I can’t remember how many booties we have so far…grunt!…Does anybody know??
2:03 pm on January 10th, 2013
Last night Staff said 1070 booties.
2:36 pm on January 10th, 2013
:'( Checkpoint Update 🙂
The Rescues Checkpoint is fully funded with the last donations in honor of Sasha and all the rescues on Chet the Dog’s blog.
The Retirees Checkpoint is also fully funded with the last donations in honor of Sasha.
We love you Sasha and we’ll see you on the Trail.
2:46 pm on January 10th, 2013
Sniff sniff
Thanks youse guys.
Right now there is a coup taking place to determine the new Editor-in-Chief of the OleyHowlers. Dima says he is next in line; Meashka says he is too lazy and easily distracted. Kat has to be tiebreaker vote, but since she somehow thinks she can post her own stuff whenever the mood hits, she doesn’t care.
2:55 pm on January 10th, 2013
I didn’t realize how tired I was until I started to rest . .
Jeeze Louise
2:56 pm on January 10th, 2013
Dawson!…Wow! So does this mean that The Zoe – Melanie and Newf Gang checkpoint is the only one left?…snort!snort!
2:57 pm on January 10th, 2013
I don’t know, but there is something about this song that reminds of Sasha.
“Harvest Moon”
Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin’
We could dream this night away.
But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light
We know where the music’s playin’
Let’s go out and feel the night.
Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.
But now it’s gettin’ late
And the moon is climbin’ high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin’ in your eye.
Because I’m still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I’m still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
3:07 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rose: I love “Harvest Moon”.
Rio: There are two checkpoints left: MacyMinPin and the Small Dogs Iditarod Checkpoint and Zoe, Melanie and the River Bear Newf Pack Checkpoint, both of which could use an acronym IMO. $255. is the total needed to fund both checkpoints. Ahroooohoooooohoooo!
3:14 pm on January 10th, 2013
Money!…Wish I had some stuff I could sell…sniff!…I don’t own anything except my baseball toys and I would never part with them…sneeze!
3:17 pm on January 10th, 2013
Dawson: Are there still 2 unnamed checkpoints remaining?
3:20 pm on January 10th, 2013
Unnamed by Bella, that is…..
3:20 pm on January 10th, 2013
Dawson, it is my favorite Neil Young song!
3:22 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rose: One of our favorites and purfect for Misha Moonman & his lovely Sasha.
3:26 pm on January 10th, 2013
Neil Young is the absolute fav at our house, and Harvest Moon is one of the best. It is perfect for Misha and Sasha!
3:34 pm on January 10th, 2013
Neil Young will be playing tonight for the Howlers!
3:40 pm on January 10th, 2013
Masquers: Three unnamed (by Bella) checkpoints: Rescues, Macy’s and Zoe…etc. The three checkpoints left are Anvik, Grayling and Finger Lake.
3:58 pm on January 10th, 2013
Thank you, Dawson. Now that Bella is home again, she and the Giant can decide which goes where and who gets what.
I must say…visualizing Whitey-Lance as a coach in the upcoming Iditarod makes us feel much better.
We hear tell he will also be supervising the running of the Spirit Team from Rainbow Bridge.
4:43 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rio! I have a question for you. Would your friend ever call in sick to her busy place if something really fun and good happened?
4:58 pm on January 10th, 2013
Wose: I can’t answer for Rio, but cough, cough, sniffle, sneeze. I think I have a bad case of 72 hour malaria.
5:02 pm on January 10th, 2013
Belle Starr you are making me laugh out loud!
I was just looking at the picture of you wearing your sparkly pink collar. The Prof and I are getting more and more excited every day. Soon you will be adored and given belly rubs by us.
5:04 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rose!…Nothing fun and good ever happens around here…grunt!
5:06 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rose!…If you are thinking of stopping at the DIA airport on your way to Alaska, the answer is NO!…snort!…She doesn’t drive to the airport for anyone. Not even Rebecca…heh!heh!

5:39 pm on January 10th, 2013
Kats!…Why don’t you just go back to Windows 7?…snort!
5:48 pm on January 10th, 2013
Basil&Sage, the Pogue column in the NYT said about 8’s calendar, “Listen Microsoft, this is the 1990’s calling and we want our calendar back.”
6:02 pm on January 10th, 2013
Herbs: So sorry…we will help spread the word…BEWARE OF WINDOWS 8.
6:07 pm on January 10th, 2013
But, if we have to buy a new computer, we will have no choice. Microsoft has doomed us all.
6:40 pm on January 10th, 2013
G&BB – no offense taken. I am a Girl Kat. And Rio, don’t let it go to your pug head that you were right.
Howlers Mom – beautiful tribute. Thanks for sharing with us.
Bleeping little fishes. Gah. They’ve taken over our evenings.
6:43 pm on January 10th, 2013
I love my Mac,
Oh, yes, I do.
I love the way it works
It’s true.
It won’t run Photoshop,
but I have found
another software that it runs!

Rio: I did wave when I flew over you.

Melanie and Sam – it’s not nice to gloat.
7:29 pm on January 10th, 2013
I’m at level 199 of the little fishes. A Catty gave me some hope when she said I would get tired of it. She also said my eyes would fall out, which fortunately hasn’t happened yet.
7:34 pm on January 10th, 2013
I just got back from having dinner with a friend. There is a new restaurant in town that has wonderful lobster rolls…and the Merlot was delish.
Elementary is on tonight.

7:37 pm on January 10th, 2013
Blu-Kat n MollysMom!…Someone here will not let me play in the pond tonight…sniff!…She is putting her foot down when it comes to wasting time in the fish tank…grunt!…I think its because she is afraid of level 23 seeing how long it took us to conquer level 22…heh!heh!heh!
7:37 pm on January 10th, 2013
Gloat, gloat, gloat.
The PC on the kitchen desk is still Microsoft, but Mommy, Daddy, my girl and my boy all have either Mac Books or Mac Airs.
My tender ears are not subjected to the terrible language going on in the Royals’ house.
7:45 pm on January 10th, 2013
Barb!….What is your opinion of the character Victor on Parenthood?….grunt!….I think he sucks…grump!…And I have have had it up to here with him…growl!…Let the little shit starve. Why does Julia always give into that brat…sniff! …The episode just started so hopefully someone will get a good spanking before the end of the show…grumble!
8:17 pm on January 10th, 2013
Rio, I don’t think he gets a spanking, although he deserves one. He better shape up soon or send him back! Is that smpathetic enough?
8:21 pm on January 10th, 2013
Me? Gloat?
I looked at the fishtank and decided it was too busy and loud! So I found a game which has zen qualities. I think I will be able to sleep after playing it. Not sure that would be true with the fish.
Zoe had a much better day today. I got some rest and will get two more days of rest. Ahhhhhh.
Time to get ready for bed. Let’s see . . 8:20 . . I think I’ll be in bed by 10 .
Good night to all except for upside down Liz. G’day, Liz!
8:32 pm on January 10th, 2013
We think we are missing something. Is there another fishie thing that we don’t know about? We finished three tanks with gold cups, but the level is only in the low 100 and something. Do you just keep going to get to levels above that? Do you shop more for your fish tanks?
We thought that when we finished the tanks, we would be done.
Maybe not?

Nightly pasta everyone.
9:05 pm on January 10th, 2013
I had a horrible start to the day. Absolutely horrible. I may or may not have slept through the Giant letting all us dogs out while my Two-legged was in the shower. What was this? I was by myself. That is my least favorite place to be. I started to yeep my saddest of yeeped, but my mama was outside and my Two-legged said she didn’t hear me over the shower. Likely story. But, there I was at the bathroom door when she opened it. She assured me I was still loved, but I sat on her feet and yeeped. After she got dressed, she opened the front door to let me go outside. And, what was this? My four-legged was sitting on the front porch waiting for me.
9:25 pm on January 10th, 2013
If you check back to last night, we posted about our un-love of the Victor kid on Parenthood.
9:28 pm on January 10th, 2013
Bellie!…Is it just me or does Bellie seem a bit spoilt?…grunt!
Victor!…If his character was a little more real or believable maybe I could stomach him…grunt!…But he is not believable and I don’t like him at all…wheeze!
9:28 pm on January 10th, 2013
Belle Starr – Gilly understands completely. She goes through periods where all she wants to do is sit in Mama’s lap and cuddle and whine. She snuggles in close, and then tells Mama long drawn out stories in soft whimpers and wuffles. We think she is remembering some bad old times, but it is really hard not to laugh when she gets really wound up on the Pitiful Pearl routine. Not that we would EVER laugh at YOU!
(whispered tee hee)
Wookie’s Dad – ok, you are on our list of gloatees too!
Bee – we are looking forward to Elementary too – right after this silly Person of Interest goes off. Sheesh, Dad will just watch anything….
9:36 pm on January 10th, 2013
Tails!….Beau tells tall tails to my friend every night when she gets home…grunt!…He goes on and on and on about how mean I was to him all day long…sniff!…He tells her about the bones, balls and scraps I stole from him and how I hog the little bed by the dining room table…wheeze!…ON and ON and ON he goes!…heh!

Dear Belle Star,
You are not the only lonely one. Alice is a crybaby when left alone also. Even when she just thinks she is left alone. Maybe from her days abandoned in the woods from about 6 weeks to 6 months when I found her. The vet said he could tell by her teeth (which have been a problem since.)
If Alice thinks she is alone she makes a low whoa whoa whoa sound which is very mournful sounding. Then she will pick up one of her favorite toys and bring it upstairs to our bed. If one of us is home we always have to call out to her and let her know. Then she drops the toy and comes to make sure we are there.
Abbie does not have this problem
Often when we get home the toy, which is left downstairs by Mr.Staff is upstairs. We know how it got there.
11:59 pm on January 10th, 2013
Jay Leno just showed a clip where there was a Husky IN the fridge. Siiiiiber?
12:01 am on January 11th, 2013
Staff: I am glad to hear Alice understands my difficult time. I was never abandoned. Ever. My two mamas have been with me since day one. I love them both. I’d love the Two-legged more if she’d let me do whatever the pug I want, but she tends to put her size sixes down more than I’d like. I was very distressed being away from either of my Two Mamas. My Two-legged says she worries about me when my Four-legged crosses the Bridge. What does that mean?
Rio: Goes to show how much you know. I’m not a bit spoilt, let me tell youse. I am completely, fully and utterly spoiled! Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
I’m twirling! My Two-legged says she is working from home tomorrow. This means belly rubs for me and cheese! But, right now she has to go out and do dog chores. She better change out of her high heels and bunny boots!
