Wow! That’s a name from my childhood. And the other day the NYTimes had an article on Doris Day who is now 90. How time flies.

    Happy birthday Macy’s Mom.

Good Morning all. Macy’s Mom’s Birthday? Have a wonderful day!

I will be putting in different pics of the Pack on January 31st. Good idea OleyHowlers. Now, if someone will remind me. .

Riö, don’t worry YSAS has not gotten fat. They have been pumping him up with lots and lots and lots of fluids. He is now in a real room. Still no yogurt and anything like that is staying down. Sigh. He did see a very strange phenomena at one point late last night. He said if he didn’t know if it was sleep deprivation or some drug, but he SWORE he saw some dogs and kats taking a corner at high speed. The weird thing was they were stacked.

Oh, Snowbella, which I could send some of the weather your way. Negatives this morning and it’s now 4 degrees. There is a breeze so the Poop Patrol is waiting until the sun hits that area.

SnowBella, Wish we could exchange temperatures.

No trash pickup yesterday due to the holiday. The raccoon clan had a feast in the early morning hours.

A Very Happy Birthday to Macy’s Mom!!!

Rio: I think that your question from last night has been answered already. However, I have always sent books using media mail the way Amazon does: wrapped in plastic “popcorn” paper and then boxed.

Melanie, have they tried given YSAS dry toast or crackers? Might be easier to keep down. I mean , I like yougurt and all, but not if I’ve been spolrting my guts out.

Poor YSAS. I don’t think it is good news that he got a room. That makes me think they think he is really ill and won’t get better fast. sniff

    Happy Birthday Macy’s Mom!

  15. BearSpiritDog
    11:04 am on January 3rd, 2013

Rio: It is as the others have said. Media Mail packages can contain only books, CDs, DVDs etc. Boxes are good. We received a book from a friend yesterday stamped “received in damaged condition” with the bottom half torn open. Somehow it survived intact. It had been wrapped in thin brown wrapping paper, obviously not suitable for the perilous journey through the Postal Service.

Hope there is better news from Dr. Sam today.

    RIP Patti Page.

Friends of Chet: So many new ones and all so good looking. FOM MacBeth seems a fun loving, energetic dog. I’m a little late in welcoming him.

Happy Birthday to Macy’s Mom! I see cake in your future.

SnowBella: I know you don’t write specifically to make us cry but I have yet to read one of your “farewell” stories that didn’t have that effect on me. They are healing tears, like Melanie said.

I think his getting a room had a lot to do with SO. I want her on my side if anything goes wrong.

And at 5’10”, he weighed 148 pounds. He does not need to loose more weight.

He kept down and in . . CHICKEN BROTH!

We’re up to 8 degrees! But the wind has kicked up.

We tried to get YSAS upgraded to a suite with a better view and a big screen TV, but there were no vacancies. The only thing missing is quality room service which we will mention on our comment card when we check out of the hotel.

We sent a big book to NC for Christmas. It was $6.00 media mail and would have been $23.00 regular priority mail.

We are still having strange temps here in Illinois. 20s and 30s today, possible 50 by next week. It’s just not right!

    11:20 am on January 3rd, 2013

I have taken the opportunity to check “yogurt” on YSAS’ room service menu. Not to worry. It is not for him, but for the “knees” of Dr. Sam. And it is my most favoritest food in the world.

  21. SnowBella

Basil & Sage: To answer your question from last night, the cancellation of these races doesn’t impact AJ qualifying. As a veteran musher who has finished the Iditarod, he doesn’t have to requalify each year. He is qualified for life, so to speak (unless they change the race rules). Theses smaller races are good to see how the team is performing in a race situation, test yourself and hopefully, win a payout from the purse if you place high enough. We’re looking at other races in the next couple of months, but the ones close to us already have waiting lists several deep.

  22. SnowBella
    11:36 am on January 3rd, 2013

I should add, those mushers who plan to run Iditiard for the first time, need to run so many qualifying races equivalent to a certain number of miles. I believe the mileage is 750 at this point, which increase a few years ago from 500 miles. The musher must finish within certain timeframe after the winner of that particular race. The race must be a sanctioned qualifier. I believe a musher has to have their qualifiers complete the year before signing up for the Iditarod and the qualifiers can be completed within a certain completed within in a two year time frame.

Funny story about Chet’s post today. Every time our Grampa would hear her name he would say: “Have I ever told you the story of the time I met Patti Page?” (Yes, Grampa, you have. Many, many, many times…..) And we would smile and say, “Please tell us what happened, Grandpa.”

Bella, our book was delivered on New Years Eve. Thats sort of close to Christmas Eve…
Does anyone else have the Born to Run book? We have some questions regarding dogs who are mentioned but not shown…and also since it does not list the kennel where the dog resides, and we do recognize names, we are wondering if others can remember which team some of them are on.

    Yawn…stretch….front legs out….back legs out….now shake…

Today school started back, so dad was out of here before the sun came up. Mom said no to staying up in the dark, so we all piled back in bed until 10 am. Mom has to get herself pulled together by 2. Looks iffy right now but time will tell.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Mom wishes she could wish a few years (and pounds) off. Dad posted a picture of her on FB that adds at least 25 lbs thanks to the way she is standing. Does he LOOK at these pictures before he posts?

Best of everything to everyone today. We may be getting some flurries tonight. Bring it on!

O.Howlers: We here have the book. Although it is a disappoint the individual kennels are not mentioned, nevertheless, it is a Beautiful Tribute to these Magnificent Athletes. So proud to see our very own Snowhook Kennel as a part of it.

Flurries in Texas…Snow melting in Alaska…Something is not right here.

  36. OleyHowlers
    12:23 pm on January 3rd, 2013

We paid much more than that for the book in the great Snowhook auction. Of course, ours was autographed by the author/photographer and by the one and only AJ! Anyways, we think it was well worth it. Truly a beautiful book. Our only wish is to know which dogs are on which teams. And who the 3 or 4 dogs are that were not named.
Oh, and where Diesel is. He is named in the Intro as being included, but we don’t see him.

Thanks for your replies about the book. We order so much stuff from Amazon there is a possibility mom would never see that $58.00 charge on her credit card statement.

Bear, We are in agreement about the weather. Mom would like to send our cold to Rebecca’s part of Alaska.

  39. BearSpiritDog
    12:42 pm on January 3rd, 2013

Siber-H: We pre-paid $65 for the book, which was an autographed copy (sans AJ’s signature), that included shipping costs.
Will you be “eating the evidence” anytime soon?

O.Howlers: I do not recall Penny’s musher, but remembering that throughout the latter part of 2012 the Iditarod Trail Committee showed photos of dogs and kennels, maybe we can go back on their facebookie pages to see if we can match kennel names to furry faces.

  40. OleyHowlers

I hate shopping. Okay, Mattie has an infection in her ears that cleaning isn’t going to clear up. It’s anti-biotic drops for her!

Dr. Sam (and his entourage) have SPRUNG YSAS. He is just waiting on his papers now. Well, not papers on the floor, you understand, just papers that they are going to hand to him saying you now owe us your life.

Dad “rang out” at radiation yesterday. On the final day, you ring the bell 3 times to signify that you are finished with your treatment. His office surprised him by shutting down and being there when he came out to ring the bell. He thought only Mom would be there. They had been planning the surprise since before Christmas. There was alot of whooping and hollering and clapping and crying! We will get Mom to post a picture this weekend. She would do it today but she keeps muttering about this being a week from hell at work.

Wow That sounds like a wonderful group and support for your Dad. We are glad he is ‘rung’ out. Hugs and kitty kisses to you and him from some kats up North.

How do you rinse your sinuses out, Rio (who is probably in bed with baseball toys)? I wonder if the Catty Librarian is doing it right? >^..^<

Perhaps the pug’s friends mom is depressed. Someone around here feels like that frequently. Plenty of things to do, none of them getting done.

Oh, Elliot, you should NOT have asked that question. We know the answer and it is DISgusting. If someone is going to do it just make sure no one else is around to splort.

Way to ring in the new year, G and BB’s dad!!! Gimme four!

Elliot: I was going to answer, “Get a running start,” but I don’t think that’s the right answer.

Macy: That doesn’t look like any moose I’ve ever eaten, I mean seen. I wonder if it comes in stripes, too? 🙂

Now, now, Princess Sam, you didn’t hear a complaint out of me.

If YSAS wasn’t discharged soon, we were going to change our disguises. After a while, we started getting a lot of suspicious glances from people with clipboard. The plan was to obtain a wheelchair, have Sam and Masquers each ride a footrest and do their best to look like slippers peeking out from under a lap quilt, Belle Starr would be the ‘patient,’ I would stand on my hind legs and push the wheelchair dressed as an orderly and Kat was going to following us dressed as a candy striper. It didn’t come to it, but it’s one we’ll keep on the back burner for future.

UPS: well, at least I get a warning unlike the box of fruit delivered at -45.

Years ago I worried that I was going to end up being a little old lady who only left her house to buy food for her 11 cats and dogs. A few years later it became an oddly attractive idea.

CHobbitH: Thank you for the card and bookmark that Mr. Dawson admitted he has been carrying around for a while in his backpack. I can’t blame the goats. I’m going to use the bookmark right now.

Rebecca, since Belle Starr was close by, she stopped in for some belly rubs.
