An amazing and transformative man. RIP.
9:05 am on December 6th, 2013
Good morning.
Yes, an icon of a man. RIP.
9:18 am on December 6th, 2013
And he liked dogs.
Masquers: I did not watch Sound of Music. Was it good?
Good morning all.
9:37 am on December 6th, 2013
Melanie put a good article about Snowhook and some videos on Facebook.
9:49 am on December 6th, 2013
We liked Sound of Music. But we are only about halfway because we needed to go to bed. We will watch the rest over the weekend. Carrie Underwood has an amazingly good voice.
Here is the article Melanie posted on facebook:

Greetings!
Grizz and I watched The Sound of Music. It was very good! Different from the movie because the producers wanted to stage it the way it originally was when it was on Broadway . Carrie Underwood was great. Because it was live, there were a few missteps, but just like in a Broadway show! you keep on keeping on. BRAVO!
10:36 am on December 6th, 2013
Good morning. It’s a brrry 27 degrees here. And no, Siber, no snow.
B: We did not watch the Broadway production of Sound of Music last night; however it has been recorded to see at our leisure later. Ditto for Elementary.
Rose: I trust your judgment and am looking forward to watching it.
11:05 am on December 6th, 2013
Masquers, I think you will enjoy it. It is very unique to see live television.
11:10 am on December 6th, 2013
Greetings from show land. Once again, Cultural Survival has put together a wonderful assortment of arts from around the world. Unfortunately, the booth right in front of us has fair trade, gourmet chocolate bars.
I do not expect to see much of Leonard at this show.
11:12 am on December 6th, 2013
We Knew Chet would post that photo of Nelson Mandala with his dog. Nice!
Barb&Magpie: The 25 Days of Christmas Movies. Hallmark does have a Few good ones. On the average though, as Rio pointed out, they tend to be of the Cookie-cutter variety. We did see one in Rehab that wasn’t too bad. The main character had returned as an angel when she was actually in a coma. It was a Feel Good movie with a familiar ring to it.
Steve, thanks for telling us about the facebookie link that Melanie posted and the O’Howlers for posting it here.
Tupper&Gilly: Chocolate! The perfect inticement to draw folks to Your wares.
11:17 am on December 6th, 2013
I will say very little here since this blog is not a place for politics.
I think many of you will be interested in reading more about the Mandelas.
11:18 am on December 6th, 2013
I will say, Great article about OFM and the Pixie. And of course the dogs!!!
11:26 am on December 6th, 2013
Good morning, everyone! Mandela was a rare human. R.I.P.
Melanie and OH: Thanks for the AJ and Rebecca post.
Still no sun here and much cooler with rain. This must be the leading edge of the storm that has pummeled TX, AK and MO. Gah, from open windows to AC to heater in 36 hours 🙁 Ya gotta love it.
11:38 am on December 6th, 2013
Howlers: They were saying yesterday that in one part of Texas it was 87 and in another part only 13. We know Texas is big, but wow a difference of 74 degrees!
HOH: Don’t look for your sun…it’s here…peeking over the trees.
11:54 am on December 6th, 2013
Thank you Steve, Melanie, and Howlers! That is an excellent, in-depth article and pictures of AJ, Rebecca, and Dogs.
It was 5 degrees at the dog park this morning. Great for us Huskies, but the Husky moms were not thrilled.
Rio is having even colder weather.
How is LouLou this morning?
11:56 am on December 6th, 2013
BSD, We watched the Hallmark movie you mentioned. It is The Christmas Spirit with Nicolette Sheridan as one of the main characters. It is basically a retelling of It’s A Wonderful Life. We liked it, even though Rio thinks most of the Hallmark movies are cheesy.
12:21 pm on December 6th, 2013
Masquers, You are one lucky dogKat! Robinson cano is winging over to the Mariners.
12:22 pm on December 6th, 2013
We liked “Christmas in Conway”.
The temperature difference mentioned is standard in Texas during a cold snap. The Panhandle gets bitter cold, and the Valley is tropical. That is why the Valley is a haven for Snowbirds from the north.
We got about 3 inches of ice and sleet. Dad got a snow day from school. Angie had to go to work so she dropped Holly and Biddie over to play. The ice is not as much fun as snow, and my dainty toes are froze. Thankfully there was a nice patch of grass under a tree on which to take care of business. The Others stood in line to use my grass patch, heh.
12:41 pm on December 6th, 2013
This is for Melanie the science geek.

12:43 pm on December 6th, 2013
Dawson, you are so awesome you deserve your very own holiday tree do we are sending it to you…in a canning jar (how red neck).

12:45 pm on December 6th, 2013
Macy, mom is ROFL at the periodic table. Sometimes we know your mom and our mom are twins. Both have twisted humor.
12:53 pm on December 6th, 2013
Macy, you are too much! Glad I was not drinking soda at the time!
HOH: I love that little tree in a jar!
I am ready to stab myself through the heart! Not only do the Mariners get Cano, those written Mets signed Curtis Granderson. I wonder what commentary Rio will have. I have no reason to watch Yankee baseball next season.
Oh, and HRH B, could you make that key lime pie?
12:55 pm on December 6th, 2013
Sammie, How is it having your girl back home? Pictures please!
1:19 pm on December 6th, 2013
We need news on LouLou! Hope she is o.k. Mom has cooled off so we can tell y’all. At 6:57 this a.m., Pookey jumped up on the bed with the 2 black Canadians and mom. Perhaps we should say Pukey…yep. After coming home from the people v e t mom has been hiding in the laundry room washing bedding right down to the mattress 🙁 We don’t want to be in Pukey’s shoes, oh, she’s not wearing shoes.

We wanted to share a picture of our friend Chia who is Hmong from Laos. This is the traditional style of quilting.

1:27 pm on December 6th, 2013
Every stitch done by hand.

1:29 pm on December 6th, 2013
Rose: One key lime pie coming up.
1:30 pm on December 6th, 2013
Tupper’s Mom: Those are beautiful.
1:30 pm on December 6th, 2013
Wose: Thanks, we red neck types can do cute tacky decor with ease!
T&G’s Mama: Cannot imagine the time involved in that beautiful quilting.

T&G’s Mama: Let Chia know we love her use of colors, maybe not even second to CHobbit or Diego Rivera colors…WOW!
1:51 pm on December 6th, 2013
T&G: Beautiful. They must be very expensive.
Are you keeping the Storyteller away from those tempting chocolates?
HOH: Oh, boy…NOT a good way to start the day.
Anxious for news about LouLou.
Rose: Enjoy your key lime pie. ^..^
1:51 pm on December 6th, 2013
Macy, thank ou for the info on the new element. Luckily, I was not drinking. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. (I’m tired of hydrating and wnt a B.Stover pie.)
LouLou, I hope you are feeling better today. I also hope the man called last night.
Rose, sorry to hear about what you were talking about.dont understand any of it, but feel for you anyway.
HOH, hope the human V E T thing went okay. No surprised yelps or laughter from the techs?
I believe I got the link through Snowhook, or Philip. Someone for sure.
1:55 pm on December 6th, 2013
Staff: We think some of those cats need to learn the meaning of “Katapult” or “Katatonic” or “Kat’s arse trophy” or even “Spin the Kat”. Rude little felines, picking on poor defenseless puppies. Hey, was there a pug in that?
2:03 pm on December 6th, 2013
Hey Frank, Darah here. Thanks to the rain, the pond is full to the tippy top. Just right for a stroll. And after that I’ve found the perfect spot for a bit of…well see for yourself…

2:06 pm on December 6th, 2013
Melanie, actually the feline scan tech was found guffawing. She was wearing scrubs with candy canes but loved mom’s snowflake shirt and earrings but lost it when she found mom’s snowflake socks 🙂
2:13 pm on December 6th, 2013
Today start out great. I was going to put the tree up with the help of a friend.
Move desk around to make room behind it. Check.
Clean behind desk. Check.
Find the tree stand. First snag. Can’t find the tree stand. Did I throw the tree stand out? I remember getting mad at the tree stand last year. Did I get a new one? Maybe it was OTAS and GLAD that got a new one. Oh well, we’ll have to wait until I get a new stand that is the easy type.
Find the tree stand. Thing weighs a ton and part of it doesn’t work, but this way we don’t have to spend money. Get tree in stand. Put on lights. Stand it up on desk to move to garbage can behind desk. Second snag. Too tall. Cut parts. Cut part of the lights. Oops.
Third snag. Frigging tree has twisted itself in the stand. Stand now useless.
Get 5 gallon bucket and large rocks. Stand tree in the bucket. Wedge in rocks. Attach tree to wall with wire. Put water in bucket.
Tomorrow. Trim top of tree. Get electrical tape, fix lights, rearrange lights. Maybe put up some ornaments, maybe not.
Toast tree with some ginger beer.
Nap now.
2:20 pm on December 6th, 2013
Hey, we like the Christmas saaaaaagaaaaaa. Much more interesting than mom getting stuff out of 2 boxes. Y’all have drama!
2:22 pm on December 6th, 2013
Jeez Melanie – just hearing about your day makes us glad we are at a show!
Some of the chocolate bar flavors: Gingerbread, Cherry and Chili, Orange and Almond. Leonard is swooning.
2:23 pm on December 6th, 2013
Have any of youse seen the Walmart Joe Boxer commercial? Gah.
Melanie: Not having a good day we see. Maybe tomorrow everything will work like its supposed to work.
2:29 pm on December 6th, 2013
We have not seen that commercial Masquers.
Melanie, you are making us tired. Mom is having yet another helter skelter workday. Dima is going to his special doc tomorrow, so that left Sunday as the only day to try to get up some decorations.
Now Mom has to work on Sunday, so that isn’t going to happen.
When is her boat coming in? And will she be taking us us us on that boat?
2:32 pm on December 6th, 2013
Masquers: 1) Nothing ever works out like it is supposed to. 2) Give us back our sun!
2:38 pm on December 6th, 2013
Melanie: Now y’all see. That is why I don’t miss “doing” Christmas. Too much stress and hassle to get things done.
HOH: I am surrounded by pine trees here. They are everywhere. I can look out my front window and see several decorated with lights. I like seeing your trees. When I had trees, they were Charlie Brown type.
I am going to decorate the lilac tree with fruit and nut suet balls. Not today though. With the wind chill it is below 40 below.
The sun is shining brightly.
Hope Loulou & Mollypop’s Mom are okay. Hope BearSpiritDog is feeding his mom.
Ginger Beer sounds good.
2:44 pm on December 6th, 2013
Hmong!
Many Hmong people live in Minneapolis. Years ago Mom sent me a skirt quilted by Hmong. I wore it for years until the elastic wore out. I still have the material and a few wall hangings done in the same manner. I love that stuff!
2:49 pm on December 6th, 2013
Is ginger beer similar to ginger ale? (Made by Vernors here and that’s what we call it.)
2:49 pm on December 6th, 2013
Tell me again why HOH’s mom was in bed with two black Canadians?
Just because mom is housebound, we bring you Texas Iceageddon 2013
2:58 pm on December 6th, 2013
We were going to get the tree out of the barn. There are four out there from 9 inches to 4 feet. Each year mom decides what kind of mood she is in, picks appropriate tree. Long story short, ice has piled up in front of the door, and the rake we would use to clear it has also frozen into the pile. No tree until the Great Thaw.
I got to go for a frolic.

3:03 pm on December 6th, 2013
Miz Macy – be still mah beatin heart. Y’all are shore buff lovely in your winter finery.
3:03 pm on December 6th, 2013
Loulou Report: She is doing so well, like 1000% better. I think that’s due to Teddy RR’s loving care. Teddy enjoyed life in a hotel ‘penthouse’ apartment. Loulou even romped a few minutes ago but now she’s already back asleep. Then Sammie’s Mom and Girl will visit tonight.
Other than some cooking, I have spent the day watching Loulou. I have the e-collar off and have to make sure she doesn’t do anything to disturb the surgery. Her eyelid has three stitches and then there’s a puncture wound on her eyelid also. I’m thankful she didn’t lose her eye.
3:05 pm on December 6th, 2013
I love Macy’s sweater!
3:08 pm on December 6th, 2013
HOWLers, it WAS your recipe we used for the pretzels, except we didn’t have any dill, and they got a little toasted. Angie took a bag to work with her and thought for a while that they would be her lunch. The food truck could not get to the hospital and there was only enough food for the patients. Angie said she thought she would have to go around with her bag of pretzels like she was giving communion, one per person. Then some kind administrator realized that Jason’s Deli is about 4 blocks away and bought lunch for everybody who made it in.
3:12 pm on December 6th, 2013
So glad to hear that LouLou is doing well.
Mr. Hound you made my day. Times are tough here, and I am reduced to wearing Biddie’s hand-me-down sweater. I would make one from the drapes, but we only have blinds, and I have seen what happens when dogs try to wear those. I have a lovely Christmas jacket, but it is frozen in the barn along with the tree.
3:16 pm on December 6th, 2013
MPM: Thank you for letting us know. I’m glad that Loulou is okay.
3:21 pm on December 6th, 2013
Good news about LouLou 🙂
Old Fart saw Macy’s foto and said,”Looks like an armadillo”. Sorry, can’t dress him up, can’t take him out.
3:30 pm on December 6th, 2013
Good news about LouLou 🙂
Macy: 2 black Canadians: 1) Lucy Lou the Labra(dor) (Poodle)doo and 2) Darah Thea the Newfoundland. Both Maritime Provinces in Canada.
3:37 pm on December 6th, 2013
OOOOOOh, mom thought things was gettin’ kinky in Tenn.
Tell Old Fart, no problem. Dad told me that horizontal stripes were not my look. Like I said, I am dependin’ on the kindness of (not quite) strangers for warmth right now.
3:41 pm on December 6th, 2013
Macy we appreciate TN Williams. Don’t always like him, but appreciate him.
3:54 pm on December 6th, 2013
HOH…WTHeck are you talking about?
3:55 pm on December 6th, 2013
Oh, nevermind.
3:56 pm on December 6th, 2013
Blanche DuBois: Streetcar named Desire: I have always been dependent on the kindness of strangers….
4:25 pm on December 6th, 2013
I think Macy looks great in her sweater.
And I’m very happy LouLou is doing well. Mama Meash told me that we Members of the Nation Within have excellent powers of healing.
5:07 pm on December 6th, 2013
MPM, Did the guy call you last night.
We have to admit that we did not understand the element thing. 8th grade chemistry is the only subject Barb ever flunked.
We also did not understand HOH mom in bed with two black Canadians. What is she talking about?
5:12 pm on December 6th, 2013
OK, Read her post explaining things. She often confuses us.
5:22 pm on December 6th, 2013
I understood the “element” of surprise! (There is a periodic table of the elements on my desk.)
I understood the reference to Newfoundland and Labrador! (Well, I am Canadian.)
Didn’t get the Tennessee Williams reference until it was explained.
Hoorah for that tough little Loulou!
If I could order from the Cultural Survival Bazaar over the internet, I would be broke.
5:23 pm on December 6th, 2013
Rio: I don’t know if you’d be interested but you can get the Breaking Bad series on dvd at Amazon.
5:27 pm on December 6th, 2013
Little LouLou we love you lou just the same, the same.
Little LouLou we love you lou just the same.
5:30 pm on December 6th, 2013
Good news! Glad LouLou is better.
Macy, you look Mavaavvvlous.
Interesting news from River Bear! Just keeps on coming.
Got a letter from the clinic. Open it. Started reading. Stunned. My next appointment was for November 2014!
With a different doctor.
Zoë grabbed the letter, and wouldn’t let me have it.
When I got it back, I called the number. I wasn’t supposed to get that letter. MY doctor found the screw up. But the computer sent it on anyway.
I will be told my REAL appointments on Monday.
5:33 pm on December 6th, 2013
And Melanie, what does all this really mean?
5:35 pm on December 6th, 2013
I haven’t heard from the dog’s owner, even though he was going to call me. He or his wife may have had second thoughts. I feel sorry for the dog. The owners are both doctors and the wife was out of town all week. This poor dog is in almost constant day care.
I got two blessings – the bill was $823 instead of $1,200 and Loulou didn’t lose her eye. This incident is on the owners’ conscience.
5:39 pm on December 6th, 2013
Royal Mum: That quilting is lovely.
Macy: I love your sweater. You look very stylish.
MPM: Very happy to hear about LouLou. Teddy RR is a very good boy, and it seems, and honorary Smoocher.
5:47 pm on December 6th, 2013
HOH, it means computer and machines are after humans.
MollyPop’s Mom, you are truely blessed.
5:50 pm on December 6th, 2013
Main thing is that Loulou will have full use of both eyes, which is a blessing.
Love the quilting from Laos.
Macy we also love your sweater. You are a well dressed MinPin.
5:51 pm on December 6th, 2013
So how did Teddy Ruff Ruff get to go be a Smoocher for Loulou? Mommy and my Girl are going to see her tonight and I can’t go. This is not fair!
5:54 pm on December 6th, 2013
Ever notice how often we are on the same page, with several of us posting very similar thoughts and similar wording at almost the same time?
6:00 pm on December 6th, 2013
Melanie: Sheesh!
MacyMinPin: Wow! It’s winter in Texas!
6:32 pm on December 6th, 2013
At my Kat Kamp, big dogs were kept separate from little dogs. I feel bad for thst other dog’s owner. They were not the ones responsible for restraining him. That is the fault of the daycare who should have a reputable behaviorist on staff ti determine whi csn socialize with whom.
6:33 pm on December 6th, 2013
Please excuse my typos as my internet is down and I am typing on my phone.
6:41 pm on December 6th, 2013
Sorry if mom confuses people sometime. She confuses us all the time.
6:54 pm on December 6th, 2013
We are so thankful LouLou is doing well!
Macy, Thatis a cute picture of you. It sure looks cold and icy there.
7:13 pm on December 6th, 2013
Cold and icy in most places, Mmm winter? Wonder what that might be?
7:17 pm on December 6th, 2013
Mr. Husky, come on over, we can frolic together. I was not ready to go home, but mom is a wimp, especially after she stepped through thin ice and got her foot wet. Suck it up mom, I am not even wearing shoes!
It never got above freezing today and now everything that was wet is refreezing. We can’t normally hear much from the freeway from home, but all day we have been hearing all kinds of groaning noises from trucks trying to get up over the overpasses.
Mom is making potato soup for dinner. (I know, I couldn’t believe it either) I smells very garlicy in here. It has been in the crockpot all afternoon, but the taters are not ready yet. It better be good or that will be the end of her cooking for another year.

That was a Kmart commercial, not Walmart.
LouLou is better! We are so happy to hear this good news.
Macy: You look like you are tippy toeing through the cold snow. Kool jacket.
Mom went out to the garage to start the car. Its battery was as dead as the proverbial doornail. No surprise…it hasn’t been driven for over 6 weeks. A charger is now working its magic.
Scott called worried about the faucets freezing. They are now bundled up for the night. Hopefully in the am the water will be running along with the car.
7:24 pm on December 6th, 2013
So what does it say about me that I understand HOH?
Weather yucky. Supposedly icing right now. It’s raining.
Supposedly 3 to 6 inches of snow.
Hmmmm.
7:27 pm on December 6th, 2013
Masquers, I hope the water won’t end up running in the car.
7:30 pm on December 6th, 2013
Well Melanie, that explains a lot.
7:35 pm on December 6th, 2013
Thunder boomers started here about 20 min age…So,,,temp will drop soon. Glorious, victorious!
7:35 pm on December 6th, 2013
Hmmm, I believe you are right. I hope the potato soup comes out great.
Soooo, after the auction I completely missed the winners. I have not received any emails about where to send things.
Have I missed everything?
7:40 pm on December 6th, 2013
Now we understand more about Melanie because our x ray looked the same.
7:40 pm on December 6th, 2013
Good one, Melanie. Not sure what that says about you. Pondering…..
Ok, Jack had his play date and they all made snowmen with cotton balls, twigs for arms, and a big black top hat. Barb had a jar of buttons for noses, eyes, buttons, etc. Jack decided his Snowman was a “Monster Snowman”. He had one eye and a frowny smile and a nose down below his mouth, because he was eating his nose. Barb’s first reaction was to think within the box, but after all it was Jack’s snowman, and he is very imaginative, so therefore….

8:10 pm on December 6th, 2013
RIO! Nada.Nothing.
I am having HRH B’s key lime pie. I have nothing to look forward next season with the Yamkees, as Granderson is now a dreaded met, and Robinson Cano is going west young man, to the Mariners. sob sob sob
8:13 pm on December 6th, 2013
RIO! I’LL mention the money. CANO $240million for ten years. GRANDERSON. $60 million dollars for 4 years….sob, sob, sob. I hope you and Siber-H can make room for another Rockies fan. sob sob
8:15 pm on December 6th, 2013
Sammie, Why do you have to stay home? You are a SMOOCHER!
8:25 pm on December 6th, 2013
Greetings from a tired show off.
We got tot he show site at 5:30 this morning to finish the set up. Booth looks good. We look like something the cat wouldn’t even deign to drag in. Kind of a slow day for shoppers, but we knew that going in. We call Fridays “Practice Days” at shows. You get a chance to get the booth put together and iron out any glitches, and trust me, there are always glitches.
Dawson – we make it a policy to not stray far from our booth at these shows – the temptations out there are too great. Of course, having the chocolate booth right in front of us – well, that’s just mean. (p.s. – CS is working on the idea of having a web store….just sayin)
Next week is the biggest of all the Cultural Survival shows. There will be artists that we never see anywhere else. That show is a real temptation, but fortunately, it is usually so busy that shopping is not even an option.
MPM – SO relieved that LuLu is ok, and that the vet bill was painful, but not excruciating.
Macy – Ice in Texas. Who woulda thunk it? But you do look very cute in your sweater.
And we did get all the jokes today. Does that say something about our weird sense of humor?
8:26 pm on December 6th, 2013
Rose!…Why are you saying “Nada Nothing”?…snort!…Here I thought it was me waiting for the Maurading Goats to rise up and show their ugly mugs by stealing my package(s)…sniff!
8:27 pm on December 6th, 2013
40 MILLION DOLLARS FOR 10 YEARS OF PLAYING A PLAYGROUND GAME?!?!?!?!?
aaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Fie, fie, a pox on baseball! A pox on “professional” sports. Boo hiss.
Ok, I’m done now.
sigh
8:27 pm on December 6th, 2013
Wose, I’m glad you understand.
8:29 pm on December 6th, 2013
RIO! Yes, you should be looking for you know who. I think your friend was doing some projects for me to be given as Christmas presents .
8:31 pm on December 6th, 2013
Golinka!… $240,000,000.00 for playing 10 years of baseball…grunt!wheeze!
8:32 pm on December 6th, 2013
Rose!….They are not neither finished or mailed out yet…snort!…So do not distress yourself if you do not receive them yet…chuffle!
8:34 pm on December 6th, 2013
Rose!…Why did you mention the money?….grunt!

RIO! Money! For many, many years the Yankees have been accused of buying the World Series rings. Looks like the Mariners are now doing the same. Plus, I wanted to point out the absolute insanity of offering someone who is about 28, a 10 year, $240 million deal. Looks like the Mets are the K-mart version.
8:40 pm on December 6th, 2013
RIO! Santa? You could say that…
8:42 pm on December 6th, 2013
Insanity!…It is insanity! How can one man live up to that salary in anyone’s mind…snort!…Especially his own. It will be interesting (mildly) to see how he stacks up next season with the Fish…sniff!

I just saw a FOC named Sparky who could be my twin!
Soup was ok, too much garlic. If we ever make it again, we will change a few things, but the Grumpy Old Man was smart enough not to say anything about it.
Golinka, either of those ball players could support your family or ours comfortably without ever even noticing the missing money. Sigh
8:52 pm on December 6th, 2013
I wish one of those too well paid sports guys would sponsor our Snowhook team.
MacyMinPin: There is no such thing as too much garlic.
There is nothing at all on tv. I’m going off to read.

Way before my time, one of our neighbors roasted a whole pig outside in a pit and made homemade chicharrones. Mom says they were pretty good.
I don’t know whether I should tell this part the story but the pig was brought live into the neighborhood in the back of a pickup and then offed with a 22 rifle. Mom did not witness this part of the barbecue.
9:39 pm on December 6th, 2013

I believe everything said made a bunch of sense. However, consider this, suppose you wrote a catchier title?
I ain’t saying your content is not solid, however what if you added a post
title that makes people desire more? I mean Chet The Dog : R.I.P.
Nelson Mandela is kinda vanilla. You should glance at Yahoo’s
home page and see how they write post headlines to get people
to click. You might try adding a video or a related pic or two to grab people excited about what you’ve written. In my opinion, it might make your posts a little bit
more interesting.
